Be VERY careful when going over an estimate. They say that they are providing in network pricing when in fact they are not contracted with the specific insurance company leading to double the cost. I recently had an appointment with Dr. Hong's office for a cleaning. I had been a patient for about 2 years. The hygienist was not the person I'd previously had, and whom I had specifically made the appointment with. When I asked about that hygienist, I was told he had left the profession as had others. He (my previous hygienist) also told me the same answer when I asked him about the first hygienist I'd had. This was my third hygienist in 3 visits. I told her about a serious complication I'd previously that lasted a few months. Then she began the procedure and I winced. She put the instrument down and went to talk to the doctor. I assumed the doctor was going to come in to look at my gums. Instead, the hygienist returned and told me that the doctor said I had to leave. There was no explanation by the doctor or from the doctor as to why they could no longer treat me. I asked if the doctor was going to come in and check my teeth. She said, "No, I checked your teeth." I responded, "You're not a doctor." I was kind in my response but I left upset and very confused. A few days later, I wrote a very nice letter to the doctor explaining I was confused as to her response. Also, I suggested that if my gums were such a problem, I could return and repeat the procedure in a manner they had previously employed. We personally delivered this letter to the office manager. They responded with a certified letter stating it had been a "pleasure to treat me" but that I needed to find another periodontist. This irrational, irresponsible, uncaring dismissal of me is indicative of the type of care Altura and Dr Hong provide. Even more, was the certified letter I received reinforcing my experience. Altura's facebook site claims that they treat patients with "compassion, respect and excellence." This has not been my experience! One other point I should mention is the staff turnover I have seen at every visit - both with the hygienists and the front desk staff, including managers. It is very revealing and indicative of a disposable patient and staff culture and work environment. I do not recommend Dr. Hong or Altura. Beware of the service or lack thereof that they provide. read more

Came to this office by the recommendation of a coworker/friend as I needed to have gum graft surgery. Truly to this day I do not even remember the surgeon with which I underwent my procedure - if that tells you anything about his lack of bedside manner.... The procedure day itself went fine. However everything afterwards felt like a disaster. First of all, the day following my surgery I was in excruciating pain - this office does not call in pain meds for this procedure. I did not sleep for 3 nights. Finally I called the office to ask if something could be sent in for me and that helped. Then came the hassle of the sutures. I called to get in at the 10 day post surgery point to trim/remove some stitches as I was having extreme irritation and the development of sores in my mouth due to the rubbing. The medical assistant said that the surgeon would not allow to have any stitches removed prior to the two week point. I reluctantly agreed, and she ended up, taking out the stitches on the roof of my mouth due to the irritation and things looking well healed. However, we did not take out the stitches on the teeth where the gums were sewn in. When I came in at the two week point, the medical assistant, then said the stitches were too far overgrown and needed to be left in. This was very frustrating as I had just been in at the 10 day point and both a medical assistant, and one of the surgeons came in to look and said that it looked OK. Having the stitches left in place as they dissolved was extremely irritating to my mouth. More sores developed and I was very uncomfortable for several weeks. Worst of all, one of the teeth where we did the grafting has fallen and it appears to look pretty much the same as before I had the procedure. I will be going to another establishment for the second installment of the surgery. The only reason I am not giving this establishment a 1 star is because of the administration team. There was an issue with my billing and insurance change, but they pocketed the costs and eliminated my bill due to their mistake. I really appreciated this. Thank you. read more

I would not recommend this provider. I wished I had done better research on this provider, but after my horrible experience I have learned that I am not the only one. Dr. Marcushummer and his office DO NOT deserve your business. They do not know the meaning of taking care of their patients. They told me what my cost would be with my insurance. Then the day of my appointment I find out that they are no longer in network with my insurance and my cost will be much higher than what they originally had told me. They also failed to inform me the day before my appointment, that they where no longer in network. They did ask me if my insurance had changed, I informed them that it had not changed, but they failed to be professional and transparent in informing me that they where no longer in network. Once I realized the change in my costs I was told by Dr. Marcushummer that he would get this matter solved and that it would be best I have the procedure since I risked loosing my tooth. Dr. Marcushummer also informed me that the office should have never given me the cost that I would be responsible for paying over the phone. He stated that these things are covered when you are in the office. He also admitted that they should have informed me that they where no longer in network. By me knowing this, I would have been able to assess my situation before driving 4 hours. I went ahead with the procedure with the belief that they would resolve the matter. The fact that I also had to drive 4 hours for my appointment and arrange child care affected my decision. I had made many things happen so that I could get this done. I informed Dr. Marcushummer of this the day of my appointment, but I felt that my feedback was not important to them. Nothing ever happened in regards to the cost difference issue. To make matters worse the procedure was a waste of time. Not only did the stitches came out twice and I had to drive more than 4 hours to get them looked at, but the gum graphing did not work at all. They where always reluctant to letting me talk to Dr. Marcushummer and do a video call. During my first consultation I had asked Dr. Marcushummer to also detach the labial frenum, I always felt that was the main cause of my gum recession. Other dentists agreed with me. But Dr. Marcushummer decided to not do it. I was also contacted by the office manager regarding my dispute charge. she was heinous, she would not let me explain anything. Things got pretty heated and my husband helped me with the call. Once he did, the office manage told him ''That if he had my best interest, that he would make me pay the final amount they gave me''. My husband ended the call by hanging up. In the end I am still paying more than what I should have for a procedure that did not work. I am also needing to go back and find someone to help repair what they did. read more

Dr Marchunsaumer thinks he can belittle women especially if you don't speak his language. This was a repeat visit since he couldn't get his shit together then thinks he can charge me double so let's see how he feels when I file a complaint with the American Dental Association!!!! read more

Doctor Alan Pomeranz is a genius. Funny too. My appointment took 20 minutes, Dr P managed my pain well during the procedure and the implant healed really well. My two follow up appointments (suture removal in 10 days, and a torsion test after 4 months) were equally professional. read more

I went to Altura once for a deep cleaning. I NEVER went back. There are much better choices for deep cleaning within the area. You cannot trust this practice for deep cleanings. I do not have any experience with implants here but their reviews are very mixed. Avoid this practice for seep cleanings is my advice. read more

I was referred here by my dentist for a gum graft consultation (I have some recession from clenching on the right side of my mouth, and my dentist recommended addressing it before moving forward with Invisalign). The doctor seemed knowledgeable, and I am looking to have the surgery performed sometime next year. My main issues with this practice were that when I made the appointment I was told insurance would cover the appointment (it didn't, and I still ended up with a $70 bill), and the fact that they were kind of sales-y in their approach with an overly optimistic estimate (once again) of what insurance would cover. For a procedure that costs several thousand dollars, I would prefer a bit more honesty in the possibility that I may end up covering a lot more of the cost myself. My experience was okay, and I'm sure they do good work - but I wanted to make others aware so they understand they may end up paying more than anticipated. read more

I have had nothing but an incredible experience here at Professional Periodontics. I am a 'nervous nelly' when it comes to dentists. Ed, the dental assistant, was patient and explained everything in the utmost detail. He had a great sense of humor and was sensitive to my needs. Dr P was recommended to me (for bone graft and implant) by another periodontist back in Connecticut. He is meticulous and thorough. Not a super 'touchy feely' guy and I certainly needed to come with questions ready to fire (as he is in and out in a jiffy). Reception is always easy to chat with, worked with both my medical and dental insurance and was cooperative with my schedule. Great experience! Dr. Heather Hong is amazing for both her empathy and skill. She removed an old implant that was badly infected, instilled a new bone graft, and today installed a new post in that bone graft. That this was all done with minimal pain, and exceeding skill just speaks to her professionalism and pride in her work. Dr. Marcenshamer is not someone I would recommend to anyone. Avoid like the plague! He is inconsiderate to his patient's concerns. I showed concern for pain I am still experiencing 6 months after gum grafting, to which he replied it looks fine and had no concern for what I have to live with. Just because you cant SEE pain doesnt mean it's not there. He goes about eating and drinking with ease. Whereas for me, it hurts to. But he doesnt seem to care about my situation. He is terrible at sutures - they all fell out early and I had to see my general dentist to get them fixed. If you've had a bad experience with doctors undermining your pain, your needs to live a normal, happy, healthy life, do not see this joke. He will only trigger your PTSD without remorse. read more

I had the first of 4 gum grafts done by Altura Periodontics. I used Altura because I was referred by my primary dentist and was partially covered by my dental insurance. The procedure itself went well and was pretty painless. The pain followed the following 5 days. I had the surgery done on a Friday morning so I could recover during the weekend. I was told I would get a Saturday follow up call to see how I was doing - which I never got. I had quite a lot of bleeding during the first two days of my recovery and just took the pain pills and mostly slept. By Monday morning I realized that the plastic stent they gave me to wear (to protect the stiches and the roof of my mouth) was rubbing against the newly grafted tissue exactly where they grafted it on my teeth and my gums. So whomever made the stent and checked it on me didn't even bother to see if the stent was low enough to not obstruct the new graft. I took a metal nail file to the stent and filed the side of the stent down by 1/8" or more. Once I did that I had way less pain, the bleeding stopped and the healing began. Hard to believe how something so small but noticeable was missed by the staff and my Dr. I too had issues with my stitches coming out and actually when I had them out - they did not get all of them on either the first or second return to the office. However the follow up with the surgeon on my returns was pretty good - thus the reason they are getting 3 stars or just ok. Make sure you ask a lot of questions about the procedure, recovery and follow up. read more

I would not recommend Altura to anyone unless they want defective implants installed and to have NO warrantee on the work. I had a implant put in 9yrs ago and about 2yrs ago the implant broke and Dr. Reisner had to dig out old broken pin from my jaw and fill in the hole in my jaw with graft. Dr. Reisner retired before he was able to finish my replacement but said the implant would be replaced by another dentist. Had apt with Dr. Eduardo Marcuschamer only to wait 6mo for apt and was told after 5min interview that I needed to have all my upper teeth removed and left for lunch. (broken implant on bottom) requested another dentist and was set up with Dr. Neugeboren, again after waiting for another 2-3 month for next appt. about week before apt was called and told that I needed to call and set up another apt because of re-scheduling on Dr. Neugeboren part. Called and was told that they are NOT going to fix implant because it has been 9yrs since implant was installed and that Dr. Reisner had retired. ( Mind you that Dr.Reisner was the best d.d.s., that I have ever had and did great work) I am now in the process of filing a report with the bbb and a apt with my attorney! So I hope this review will help just one person so that they do not have to go through the pain and suffering that I have had too. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED! BAD DENTIST! read more

I would NOT recommend them. The doctors are well educated, but that does not mean that they are dedicated to their work. It seems, they are more focused on - how they can make more money, quickly. - They seem to be in a hurry. They do not spend much time telling you about all possible options and how to take care after surgery. - Their recommendations are more towards costly procedures and many are not covered by a typical dental insurance. - Billing has issues. They bill the wrong codes and do not want to fix later. - Many times the pre-treatment estimate does not match what they finally bill to Insurance, causing more headaches. read more

I was not happy when my dentist told me that I needed to visit a periodontist for "pockets" left after having impacted wisdom teeth extracted as a teenager 4 decades prior. She referred me to Altura, and she said I would love them, and she was so right! The office staff and assistant were so friendly, they put me at ease immediately. Then Dr. Neugeborn examined me and I was amazed at how kind, gentle and respectful he was. As it turned out, there was nothing they could do for me, since the pockets are too close to the jaw bone. I was so impressed by Dr. Neugeboren's honesty. I have been to a few dishonest dental providers who only cared about making money from you...but not here. They are all about integrity and treating their patients the way they would want to be treated. I highly recommend Altura ! Should I require Periodontic treatment in the future, there is no other place I will go. read more

I have a HUGE fear of the dentist much less a dental specialist. I had major surgery with Eduardo Marcuschamer DMD. Not only was he fantastic but everyone else in the office was just as great. I cannot say enough about Dr. Arguello and the staff at Altura. I have historically hated the dentist, and approached my grafting surgery with a lot of anxiety. Dr. Arguello spent 45 minutes with me during a consultation, answering all my questions (and then some), which relieved some of those nerves. When I came in for the surgery and subsequent visits, the team was always prompt, professional, and responsive to my concerns. They even brought me a warm pillow and fleece blanket during the procedure! Truly, I don't think I've ever had a doctor of any kind provide the kind of attention I've received from Dr. Arguello and his team. I can't recommend them highly enough! read more

I was referred to Dr Arguello at Professional Periodontics & Implant Dentistry by my regular dentist. I am almost embarrassed to admit the state of my dental health at the time. I needed a great deal of work. I wanted to know all my options. The pros and cons of each. I wanted to know exactly what the cost would be. Perhaps most importantly I wanted to be 100 percent confident on all these points once I selected the option that was the best for me. Like most people spending their hard earned money on a serious procedure. I wanted to know that I was talking to someone very knowledgeable and forthright. I was not disappointed. The biggest impression I took away from the experience is that both Dr Arguello and his supportive office staff stand behind their work and their reputation. If all professionals were as committed there would be no need for Yelp or any other organization like it. If you were to spend a great deal of time searching you might get lucky and find a doctor and office that is just as good, but i can't imagine you could ever find one better. If you still have Emilio Arguello working in your office BEWARE,after a whole year now my mouth is still numb where he hit nerves while trying to do an implant. He was at River Point the day I went in to replace crowns and was pressured into an implant without taking any precautions he started the procedure. Now a yeat later l've had to go to a real professional to have this procedure corrected and now I have to go to a specialist to see if any thing can be done about the numbness in my mouth and on my lips, that he didn't seem to care about, no apology,all he said was " that's the chance you take when you have surgery" Next step " law suit" Reported him to the CDA doesn't belong to that, next was the dental board they have no information on him so what does that tell you.
