This spot has always been pretty good. No frills or atmosphere to really speak of, just food. Back in the day, we would see people dining in a lot, but it's pretty much become a to-go spot. Likely because of the lack of atmosphere/outdated decor. The employees are always pleasant and the food comes out pretty quickly. The way the food is made definitely seems to change based on the cook that day. I usually get the #1 breakfast burrito. It has ham, bacon, egg, potatoes and cheese (I get it no egg). Or the cheese enchilada plate. I don't think the burrito ever gets made the same way, lol, especially the potatoes. Sometimes it's fries, sometimes it's smaller cut potatoes. Sometimes there's a good amount of meat n cheese, sometimes not. The enchiladas are nothing crazy, but I like the sauce, even though I can tell it comes from a can. And the rice n beans are usually decent. The rolled taquitos are always good. The chorizo breakfast burrito is also tasty (we add beans). The carne asada tacos are really good these days. You usually can't go wrong with the asada nachos or asada fries, either. read more

This place is usually decent , today I ordered shredded beef tacos and they tasted different. The tortillas tasted stale and the meat was sparse ( more than usual ) and it just didn't hit on any level . They were over fried , burned . My go-to is the beef taco and tostada combo, but the enchiladas, burritos, and fish tacos are delicious too. Both the red and green salsas are tasty. Everything that is supposed to have cheese has plenty of it! For me, a Mexican restaurant absolutely must have really good beans, and they do. Service has always been very good. The restaurant itself always seems clean enough to me, but it is kind of old and needs some painting and maintenance. That's OK though. You'll probably be getting your food to go anyways, and the quality makes up for the lack of pretty decor. read more

Picture tender slow cooked boneless chicken from the crockpot, marinated in tasty seasoning and juices... I went here with some friends after spending time at a local brewery recently on a Friday evening. The parking lot was empty haha. Plenty of seats inside. We ordered super nachos which took no more than 10 mins to make. The nachos were as expected - carne asada, guacamole, sour cream, and shredded cheese. One order can adequately feed two people. Ignore the one star reviews. It comes from silly people for silly reasons. If you want the truth about Alvaros, here it is. Yes, this place is dirty, hence the terminology of "dirty mexican food." If you are from the Southwest, you know that there is authentic, dirty, and tex-mex styles of Mexican food. This whole "it tastes dirty here," well they are right. It's called super awesome, save the trouble, for the hangover, feeling flexible, as long as it's edible, dirty mexican food. I ordered the taco and enchilada plate and the cheese enchilada is spot on. The taco, however, did have it's fair share of shriveled up SHREDDED BEEF in the middle, but the beans and rice are just what you expect from an establishment like this. Regarding service, I noticed off to the side of the restaurant that, yes, there are a couple of workers that probably do not embrace the value of customer service, attentiveness, or politeness BUT, I was service by a nice older lady who's name I can't pronounce but it sounds like (Mee-el-iah). She was super polite at taking my order and delivering the food from the prep table to the counter. Please don't be surprised by desperate people waiting outside for a snack or change. It's freaking Riverside!! I was born and raised in Riverside and they pop up just as frequently as they do in Los Angeles and near other major cities. Anywho, the food is fine. It's dirty mex. This place is a must try. I couldn't be happier with my purchase. I enjoyed my meal. The portion size was legit. It's not cheap but you get a great amount of food. The tostada was a little small but everything else was on point. It's a little hood but you will be ok. The beans were good and the cheese was amazing. The fries were crisp and the meat was good. Great munchy food. After a few drinks and a little fuma, this place would be heaven. I ate my food without hot sauce and that says a lot. I would try everything on the menu. Some things are going to be hit and miss but it's worth the try. I use to go to Alberto's in San Bernardino but that place blows now. I'm never going back. This is now the cut.
