If you're looking for the perfect romantic date night spot, you should definitely check out Estrella. My boyfriend found this restaurant on Yelp when we were in the Riverside area, and it did not disappoint. It's a very vibey lounge with live music and incredible food. We ordered the shrimp cocktail (10/10) and the salmon plate (10/10), along with agua frescas, guac, frijoles, freshly house-made tortillas, and chips. Everything was perfect--from the quality of the food to how well each dish paired together. Our server, Dani, was very kind and made sure we had everything we needed. Warning, terrible for Taco Tuesday and prohibitively expensive. However, they have a terrific brunch and I highly recommend coming on the weekend or any time outside of Tuesday. The molcajete is really good--recommend the verde salsa over the mix or rojo salsa. The appetizers are really good. Their birria is very tasty and I highly reommend. They've removed from of the apps they used to have, but for the most part, the brunch menu is legit and you can't really go wrong. Great friendly service in downtown Riverside, wanted to try a place we have not been to in downtown Riverside. It's a nice Modern Mexican restaurant with music and happy hour in the evenings. The drinks were in the gorgeous details of the presentation. The chips were good but a little heavy thick crisp for my taste, but the salsa was fresh. The fresh guacamole was seasoned perfectly. I ordered my favorite chili relliano and it was cooked with a light batter and nice sauce. For the elite corn, we were expecting a fresh cob so that was a Lyle bit of a let down. We worked definitely return and try other menu items as the tacos were one of the best we've tasted. We came to the Estrella for a celebration on Tuesday night. It was my first time here. The lounge has a Hispanic theme, with cultural art on the walls. It is very bright with dim lighting. There are neon signs and the space is spacious, with two dining areas. There are TVs everywhere and a projector wall on one of them. There were quite a few customers that were already there. We were a big group but luckily, we were able to be accommodated. Service was a little slow because of our group. It took awhile for drinks and food to be taken and served. I ordered the birria tacos and La Señorita drink. The birra tacos were delicious and I loved my drink. It reminded me of Jamaica. This is a great spot for celebrations, since the servers customized a sign for it with servers holding sparklers. At the end of the night, I think the Estrella becomes a club since I did see a DJ setting up his equipment. I appreciate the servers trying their best with us. Everything turned out great! read more

Estrella Cantina is the place to be on a Thursday night. We showed up around 7pm and were met with great service and free chips and salsa. I ordered the chicken fajitas. The large serving was unbelievable, leftovers for days. Everything was so flavorful and it came with a bunch of sides to enhance the experience. My friend got the Ceviche and it was some of the best we've had. About an hour after arriving, they had a live band playing and it made the experience so fun. Came here Friday night for dinner with family. Shockingly it wasn't too busy of a night...however...with that being said I don't think I would come back here, at least to eat. Service was terrible, it took a long time to even be acknowledged after being sat and even then we had to pull the hostess to have a waitress help us. The initial waitress that helped us was nice so that's a plus. But another waitress that assisted seemed to feel like everything else around us was more important than us to even give us her attention when she brought our food out. Once again it was not a busy night and there were a few servers there so I do not see any reason to have such horrendous service. Next my sister and husband ordered strawberry Fanta that tasted water down so they asked for coke, that too tasted water down. I had the asada tacos and the asada was cold and tasted like it was sitting out all day at a family barbecue. My wife's carne asada fries were a joke. I was offered rice and beans with the tacos and was charged $11 for a small scoop of each talk about ripped off. There were four of us and my 3yr old our bill came out to $140 and they had the audacity to charge a $3 service fee! I would not suggest eating here. They did have plenty of screens and had all the games on so maybe that would be the selling point. read more

This restaurant has plenty of seating, we got there almost right at opening and were seated right away. Service was fast and friendly. They had some good music going as well. Came here to watch the Mexico game but get dinner first, a whole 3hrs before btw, game hasn't started and restaurant is completely reserved which is understandable but the girl in charge in the front told us the bar top was self seated and there was 1 chair available. Once the bartender saw us he approached my husband and I to say that specific chair was reserved for 5pm. Makes no sense for employees to reserve chairs for their families or friends specially in a bar top! read more

Mhhhhmm so yummy!! We love our Mexican food and they did not disappoint! We got free churros for just checking in and they were so perfect. They were nostalgic of happy Disney churros. Let's ignore our actual patrons and pay our almost entire, small attention to the funny, lackluster bartender while forgetting basics like tortillas and chips or drinks to our patrons. Let's ignore fancy things like paper towels or soap in the bathroom, who needs them? Let's pump the music so loud you have to shout before the band for night decides to set up and warm up before 9pm on a slow, Tuesday night? Let's ignore the drunk female asking another female patron trying to enjoy her meal mid-bite demanding a dance whilst you fill her with another drink? Let's ignore "tacos" with all the fillings on top of and outside of the tacos instead of in them? Let's ignore all of that, and enjoy your experience. Never again, McQuire brothers. Never again. We made a last minute sitting for a group of 14 to celebrate a birthday. Tables were quickly assembled and we were allowed to be seated even though our entire party hadn't arrived. Festive environment with fairly loud music playing while Thursday Night Football was on the one television behind the bar. Food menu and drink menu had well beyond the typical fare offered by a Mexican spot. Wonderful selection. Our orders were taken around the table and drinks continued to flow. I had an Arnold Palmer to start but soon relented to peer pressure and had a shot of reposado tequila. The favorite food items around the table were the carne asada fries, chicken wings,the queso birria, shrimp enchiladas and potato taquitos. I had the star of the show with the molcajete. The fiesta came to the table with protein and vegetables hanging out of the stone bowl. Shrimp, chicken and steak all perfectly cooked, with green onions and tender flavorful nopales. Beans and rice arrived by separate plate along with the corn and homemade flour tortillas (some of the best on University Ave if not the city). The food stayed hot until I put leftovers in the doggy bag, still warm when I got it home. Everyone enjoyed their meals and most had enough to take home. They have a unique birthday celebration and the birthday girl couldn't have been happier with the special treatment. Well done. We were on our way out as the live music was warming up. Just know that Downtown Riverside's expensive. That being said, Estrella was worth it. I got the asada tacos and my wife got the carnitas and they were exceptional. This place is one of the few that my wife and I keep coming back to keep the fire going in our love life. The ambience of this place has good mixture of warm and welcoming decor but entertaining at the same time. It's one of those hidden gems that you can't get anywhere else. The food is amazing, everything from the tacos to your Sopes, and Ceviche is what you'd expect and better. We haven't had one plate that we don't enjoy! But what I would have to say is the most valuable attribute of this place are the people that work here.
