His front desk is also really great. If I need something, I don't need to ask for any specific person, they all know how to handle questions, cases, and concerns. Truly, they are great at what they do and they're incredibly efficient. When I ask for a referral or let them know about a concern, I know I don't have to follow-up and I will be hearing from the doctor or the office SOON. I even had a more urgent case that I wanted dealt with as quickly as possible, so I called and got the office's email and sent them the necessary paperwork before my specialist did and I had a referral and follow-up material within 24 hours. When you have lab tests, tests or xrays in general, or anything that requires your attention, someone will call and follow-up and update you on the situation and potential next steps. They may not be the gentlest about it but I prefer a straighforward approach so that I can handle whatever I'm dealing with as quickly and as best as possible. This office is kind, efficient, and very good at what they do. She had been concerned about the drive to Irvine since she doesn't live in OC, but after meeting him today about a list of issues, she walked out feeling empowered and happy to be in some expert hands. I went with her to her appointment so I was there to see how he treated her. He asked her questions, listened to her answers, and carefully examined her as if she were his own mom. I can't tell you how much I appreciated that level of care and patience. Now my mom can't stop talking about how amazing Dr. Mikhail is -- she said that all her other doctors have never been so thorough. For instance, she has had breathing issues the last few years yet no one had ever had her do a breathing test to figure out the cause. Dr. Mikhail quickly got a test ready for her, then diagnosed and treated the issue. I can't thank Dr. Mikahil enough for all these years of outstanding service, expertise, and kindness. He is the kind of doctor that won't run batteries of tests on you unless it's actually called for. I now live 50 miles away from his office and will still make the drive down to see him. I've recommended a number of friends and colleagues to him throughout the years and they all agree that Dr. Mikhail is hands-down the BEST internist around. We are SO LUCKY to be his patients! P.S. When I was admitted to the ER, they were shocked that as my PCP, he didn't prescribe ANY medication earlier to prevent my condition from getting worse. Through what I learned at the ER, I realized how improperly I was cared for. A few days before going to the ER, Dr. Tsai just told me to take something over the counter. He constantly brushed off my concerns. If I was cared for properly, I wouldn't have had to go through the ER and go through the pain I am going through every day from a condition that could have 100% been prevented. Through almost a year of working with him, Dr Tsai never informed me or conducted preventative care appropriately. When I signed up for his service, he stated that he was "pretty much always available." I trusted him, but this turned out to be far from true. I would try to contact him through the member portal and hope for a response from him. Sometimes I would have to message and follow up more than once to get a response. He doesn't have a proper scheduling system or calendar, so you need to call repeatedly and leave voicemails and just hope that he will return your inquiry. It was a ton of playing phone tag and inability to reach him or schedule appointments to follow up. Please do yourself a favor and keep searching for a different doctor. Update: I reached out to Dr Tsai directly to express these sentiments, but he never responded. It was through this constant negligence and lack of communication that prompted me to feel obligated to warn other people looking for care. Ever since I went to this office, it is about how they get paid. Just to let you know, my co-pay is $25 and it does not matter to me the cost of the service, but it does matter how I get treated for the cost of service. So, I learned quickly that when I go to this office, I pay upfront and ask if there are any outstanding or extra charges to pay for. I will always pay in advance!! Well, months later, I get a bill in the mail stating I did not pay for my $25 office visit. Upon looking at the date in question, I investigated my bank statement, I saw that I had indeed paid. I copied the payment from my bank statement, and also a copy from the bill. Faxed it to them to let them know I paid in full as I always do. Well, I receive a call later, stating that the dates they had were wrong. It was another date they had in mind. When I questioned that date and validated it with payment, they came up with another date. This office is about money, not the quality of care. If you are ok with that, then this is the office for you. I would rather go to an office that CARES about the patient FIRST, the quality of care, then the billing.
