I've always been happy with this guy. He's always very pleasant, the place is always super clean, and they seem to do a good job. I've never tipped him though. Does anyone know the proper etiquette for tipping your dry cleaner? They also have a digital file of everything. I have this nerdy thing where the thought of them having a computerized system kind-of makes me feel better. Everything is recorded electronically, and they always have my information on file, so I never have to give it them. One of these days, my trust in technology is going to bite me in the ass. I've been exploring all the dry cleaners in this neighborhood to determine the best one to go. And tried this place for my white cashmere coat. My coat had a couple of RED WINE STAINS on the elbow area which I didn't notice until I brought this coat to the store, thus, the stains seemed to have been left for a while. BUT, when I received my coat here after several days, ALL the stains were gone! $20 for coat is not the cheapest in this neighborhood but definitely decent pricing. Especially for such quality job. I had been a customer of Alvin's for almost 8 years. When I told the owner a shirt was missing, he said it was impossible. It was a new shirt that I had received for Christmas and it was very possible. When I realized I was also missing a pair of pants, he refused to double check to make sure I had not missed an order, he refused. He also refused to clean the shirts I had just brought in. I've been using Alvin's for about a year now and this is the first time I had an issue. I'm giving them one star because I brought 2 very expensive tops in to be cleaned. The owner checked both garments front and back when I brought them and put their descriptions into the computer for my ticket. Then he put them into the bag of clothes to be cleaned. I went to pick them up today and they said they could not clean one (a completely white garment) due to an extremely large stain on the front sleeve of my top. First of all, the stain was not present when I brought the shirt in. This shirt was almost $200 and it was brand new; worn twice. Second, the gentleman didn't notice the stain either when he examined my garments upon arrival (because it wasn't there). Third, I dont even know what the stain is. It's not makeup or food or dirt, it looks like a chemical spill and now has completely ruined my shirt. The man said I made the stain and that he won't clean it or compensate me for the damage. Absolutely refused to even give me back the money I paid for the other blouse. I get that things happen, but I would have appreciated at least some kind of refund or at least an apology instead of being yelled at. I'm not going back to them. read more

Well, I had an admittedly gross moth problem, and did extensive research on how to get rid of them, hopefully forever. Accordingly, I put the yucky clothes in the freezer for two days (this is supposed to completely annihilate moths, moth larvae, moth anything) and took them to Alvin's. (Several articles mentioned dry-cleaning as another way to get rid of moths.) He flatly refused to take them, even after I explained that they were well frozen--which I thought I was doing as a courtesy! This seems to be a thing with dry cleaners--another one refused my clothes because they had some cat hair on them. I'm confused--cleaners won't clean dirty clothes? I don't like dirty clothes either, that's why I take them to the CLEANer. Hmmm.... read more

I used to use the Alvin's, but finally got fed up when they washed out my black clothes, which became grey, and when they put holes in my wife's silk dress by putting pins through it. Who puts holes in silk? They gave us a hard time, wouldn't reimburse us for the damage (even by reducing some dry cleaning bill), and made nasty remarks. They can have the customers who only give them polyester, for all I care. (To be fair, the wife is very caring -- but the owner husband is a jerk, and controls the issues.) Went back to give them a second chance after being away for a year -- thinking that maybe having lost our substantial business would make the business rethink customer service. Got the husband rather than the wife, who declined to take my dry cleaning. I'll definitely go elsewhere now, always. read more
