Stumbled across this sushi spot on social media and decided to give it a try. Glad we did, sushi was fresh and nicely presented. Customer service was excellent. The restaurant is well kept and cozy. We live a good drive away but will still come back and visit as it is will worth the drive.

The best sushi in the Cities! Never lets us down. The presentation is so pretty. Very busy on a Saturday night but worth the wait. The staff is so friendly. There were 4 of us and we ordered 6 rolls, the momo dumplings and tempura vegetables. Sorry I didn't get a picture before the destruction.

My favorite sushi place! Reasonably priced and amazing sushi. Their lunch specials are a tremendously good deal and satisfies every time. The only downside is their space is small so you may have to wait but it is 100% worth the wait. Arrest parking is available and wasn't too hard to find. I recommend trying them for lunch!

Yesterday I went to Ama Sushi in Edina for their lunch special! First off they start you with complimentary miso soup when you sit down. Trust me right out of the cold, NOTHING hits better. Then the lunch special is wild. You can get any 2 rolls for $9.99 and 3 rolls for $12.99. This has got to be the best overall lunch sushi deal in the twin cities!! The staff was very professional, and warm when we walked in. Very much felt right at home. It isnt the biggest space but they use it well and we were in and out in under an hour. TLDR: Ama Sushi is an excellent sushi spot and an instant favorite for us. High quality fish, affordable prices, quick service and we liked the calm and chill vibes!

The food is awesome, but it can be a mad house! We went to Ama since Momo is out of commission for a little while. It was a Saturday night, and we decided to order pick up. the line was out the door (there were many people waiting in the street) to get a table, and when I went inside it took 10 minutes to get a host's attention to let them know I was there for pick up, and another 10 minutes for them to actually bring the food. So I was just standing in the little entrance hall (which fille dup with 3 more people waiting for pick up orders) for 20 minutes. Now, they were super busy, I understand. But they should have a better system for handing out the pick up orders because all of our food was ready! So the pick up experience was extremely frustrating, but the food was great! We ordered the Sushi bucket, which came with 2 servings of miso soup as well. We can eat a lot of sushi, so this was the perfect amount for 2 hungry people. I love that it comes with sashimi as well, so you don't feel like you are eating too much rice. The chef specials roles are whatever the special roles for the week are, so you can't know unless you call ahead to ask. The restaurant is small, but cozy, and there is a tiny sushi bar seating area. Expect to wait if you go at a busy time.

Small, cozy spot with seriously impressive sushi. I was a big fan of Momo Sushi, so I figured I'd love AMA, and I wasn't wrong. The menu is huge, almost overwhelming at first because there are so many options, but honestly, everything we tried was excellent. The sashimi is where AMA really shines. The tuna belly (toro) sashimi was divine, easily some of the best I've had. Hamachi and red snapper were also incredibly fresh, with generous cuts. This is hands down my favorite place for sashimi when it comes to value and portion size. The gyoza deserves its own moment. Melt-in-your-mouth, easily the best gyoza I've ever had. The golden salmon was good, and the rolls were solid across the board. My favorite was the Sweetheart Roll, and the Tibetan Roll was a fun, unique option if you want to try something different. Sex on the Beach was also a good pick. Service was quick and friendly, and the complimentary miso soup was delicious. They also have great lunch deals and monthly specialty rolls, which makes it easy to keep coming back. Parking is easy with free street parking or a nearby ramp. They don't take reservations, so expect a wait during peak hours, but it's worth it. If you love sashimi and want quality fish without the ridiculous price tag, AMA is a must.

We came from North Dakota and stopped for dinner at AMA Sushi. It turned out the restaurant was quite small and there were quite a long waiting list. We decided to wait anyway. Outside there's a waiting area with heater which was nice. We didn't wait terribly long which was good. Staffs were very friendly and attentive. Sushi quality was good. Our fav was Naruto Roll. The restaurant is in a very nice neighborhood. There are a bunch of boutique shops nearby. Plenty of street parking.

We met with family for lunch at AMA Sushi today. We were a party of 6 so, we did need to wait a bit to sit down. But, it was totally worth the wait. I only took a photo of one of our plates to share. We also had a smaller plate with sushi rolls and sashimi. We have been to Momo Sushi a couple of times and love it. But, because it's not open right now, we went to Ama. Service was excellent and the food was to die for. Although we live on the other side of the river (St. Paul), I will definitely eat here again. I can't wait until the next visit!!!

This place has everything you would want from a sushi shop. Great food, fast service and moderately good location. It would be excellent, but parking is a little puzzling.. the Gyoza blew my marathon mind. That level of delicate crisp was artwork. I enjoyed watching the sushi show on TV too

So far I have been here twice with two friends and I strived to get an overall feel of their food taste by ordering different items. In my opinion, they have highlights and items that could use further improvement. Depending on what one is looking for, I may recommend this establishment as a solid spot, especially for sashimi. I have ordered a few different sushi and sashimi entrées and my overall impression was that the sashimi was the absolute highlight. Every type of sashimi I had, ranging from salmon to tuna to escolar, was big in pieces and tasty. Each sashimi piece had different types of fish roes on it as well. I also enjoyed the nigiri, which was basically sashimi on top of rice, and even if the sashimi pieces were smaller, it was still delicious. Because of such, I believe that for those looking for good sashimi, this place would be very solid. The specialty rolls and California rolls were not so different from what I have had elsewhere, so I enjoyed having them and that was it. I just wasn't greatly impressed. I also had some of the momos and they were okay, not spectacular, because there wasn't enough seasoning within the vegetable mixtures and the meat mixtures. The momos relied on the red pepper flake chili oil for flavor mainly. I also had the vegetable teriyaki box and it was underwhelming, because the vegetables seemed very sloppily cut and cooked, and also lacked seasoning. The box had some rolls and scallops in it and that was pretty nice to see. In terms of pricing, all the items including the sushi bucket that I had were very economical. It is pretty difficult to find affordable Japanese food within the United States in general, and even know I know this place doesn't just serve Japanese food, their biggest highlights were sashimi and nigiri, so I will recommend this place to those looking for good Japanese food.

Wanted to try a new sushi place we had never been to before. (We usually go to Wakame). The miso soup and squid salad were fire!!! The sushi itself tho, left us pretty unimpressed. The quality over all was mediocre, the rice seemed over cooked, the wasabi was weak, the fish quality wasn't the best, and the nori was so soggy. It was a let down. But again, I would go back for that soup and the squid salad!! The service was also really great!!

Friendly and attentive staff, good ambiance, and scrumptious food. A memorable experience that started with a complementary bowl of miso soup. I had one of the beat sashimi plates in Minneapolis. The sorted sashimi deluxe option provided us with an assortment of salmon, tuna, yellowtail, etc sashimi that were thick and delicious. The best thing about it was that each had three slices of sashimi which was perfect for my two friends and I who got to taste all of them. As for rolls, the AMA was very meticulously constructed with three variations of fishes with perfect ratio of fish to rice. The Naruto roll was very difficult to pick up with chopsticks, but it was delicious. I recommend both of the rolls! Every bite was a joy! Definitely going back! read more

Great ambiance in this cozy location just off of 50th and France. We ate a variety of rolls and sashimi, hands down the salmon was some of the best I've had in the city. The rolls are tasty, but some have breadcrumbs stop taking away from the sushi flavor. Prices are not bad for this part of town. read more

Have been looking for a good affordable sushi place in the Twin Cities, and this came highly recommended by a friend who did some extensive research. AMA did not disappoint. Went out with three other friends - our meal started with warm, complimentary miso soup, then we ordered a Sushi Bucket, a Momo Roll, and a bottle of unfiltered sake. Service was good despite the restaurant being very busy. We were initially a little disappointed we could not choose the two Chef's Choice Special Rolls which came with the Sushi Bucket, but our server thoughtfully made note of our dietary restrictions and customized our rolls with respect to that. Our server misunderstood our order for the Momo Roll and brought Tibetan momos for us, but upon realizing her mistake, very nicely replaced our momos with the rolls we ordered. AMA has a wide selection of sake, including both filtered and unfiltered sake. Our server's sake recommendation was fantastic. Street parking. Reservations available for parties of 6 or more. read more

Second time here in a short period of time and both disappointing!! We were done first time at 8:30 PM when they started cleaning and the smell Lysol was not the best dessert! Tonite in a group of six and 45 mn before closing, the same thing again! I understand not wanting to pay overtime but come on! Last time I am going there. read more

Sushi wasn't great. The rolls fell apart before even eating them. They don't include chopsticks and have low sodium soy sauce. I tried the AMA roll and November roll and didn't like either. Would not recommend. read more

Tip: we went there for lunch and enjoyed their lunch features at an awesome deal! Their Charishi bowl was to die for I loved how fresh the sashimi was over that beautiful bed of rice. Their chicken katsu is another thing you shouldn't sleep on We will definitely have to go back to try other items on their menu. read more

I've been to AMA multiple times now and the food has been great every time and a reasonable price. The free miso soup is a plus. When I went recently I was pretty disappointed in the service. They forgot our miso soup so we had to ask for them (accidents happen so it was fine). But then about 15 mins after we paid out (we had been there for a little less than an hour and I was just finishing my drink), the manager (I think) came and asked us to leave to make room for people waiting for a table. Keep in mind it was only 2 of us at a table for 2, there were other tables available, and there wasn't many people waiting. I would've understood if it had been over an hour and half or if we had more people but I was disappointed since I usually love coming here and have never had this issue before. Kicking people out after an hour is crazy. Not sure if I'll be coming back since that interaction really put me off. read more

This place has affordable food but customer service is A TOTAL MESS. I came here 3 times, i did not have a single good experience. The first time everything was good until i went to pay, i tipped 15% on the tab and the host asked me why i only tipped 15%.... I let it be. We came back for the 2nd time, the restaurant was a total mess i really wonder if they ever clean the restaurant. I came back with my family today, there was 8 of us, we waited almost an hour (which is fine because there were a lot of us). The moment we sat down they started rushing us to order and literally finish eating. We havent started ordering yet the server started with "just so u know u get to only order once because everyone is waiting for their table". Yes we haven't even opened our mouths yet.... The food is affordable but the customer service here is UNEXPECTEDABLE. I hope the owner will get this straight. read more

I dined in with my family today the bill came out to $208, we didn't leave a tip on the card we left $30 cash on the table. My family they were outside waiting for me to grab my car. A server came out and said "just so you know you guys have a big table and you guys didn't tip". First of all, even if we didn't tip I don't think it was right for him to do that. Second of all, maybe they should've look a little closer before jumping into conclusions and made us really uncomfortable. I paid for our food, we didn't come and beg for free food. This kind of customer service is not okay. read more

Cute little restaurant. Food was decent, service was disappointing... I get enough attitude from my kids and never expect it from a customer service worker. Service is a huge part of a dining experience. The way you word things and how you say them matters. We were sat and then brought out complimentary miso soups. I ordered a steak teriyaki bento box and I wanted to replace the cali roll for an Alaska roll. They are the same price if you order on the regular menu. I had gotten a lunch bento box at their sister company, Momo sushi, and did this same thing without an issue. The server said "yeah it's gonna be extra money if you do that" which I responded "oh it doesn't say you can't substitute and they are the same price on the menu" to which she rudely responded "I've been a manager here for 7 years and we don't do that, so do you want to pay the extra money or not?" Woahhhh. I was baffled. If I was alone, I would have walked out. Of course I will pay extra to get my order how I want it, but she could have said it in a better way and not with such rude tone. I'm ordering and I've never been here before. I'm asking questions. The LEAST I expect is for you to kindly explain to me, not feel like I'm being yelled at. My friend ordered edamame and wontons as an appetizer. Both tasty, nothing special. They brought my bento box out shortly after her apps, then brought her sushi out. My bento box came with a soup but I didn't get it. She asked the other server for a fork and yum yum sauce then the server scurried away. My friend said to me " I wanted to ask for more water too but I felt like I was asking for too much" which should NEVER be the case when you're going out to eat. We should feel comfortable to converse with our server(s). She drops the fork and sauce off and my friend asks "can I get another water?" The server responds "you mean more water? Yeah" "uhm yeah.. can she get her soup too please?" We felt like we were being graded and we were failing at school in this dining experience. It was just so odd. My teriyaki steak lacked flavor anyways. So I will maybe try momo again so I can try an actual momo but I do not think I will recommend this or go to this location again. read more

Sushi is pretty standard. But for the price vs quality you can't beat AMA. I'm not a roll person. Usually order nigiris. But I do like their Angry dragon roll. Seafood Fried rice was clumpy. Not my favorite. read more

I was so excited to check out AMA and left underwhelmed and unlikely I'll return. Chefs special rolls were good. Don't recommend the tuna and crab dumplings- it's imitation crab - such a let down. Tried the 21 piece sashimi, hoping for a slam dunk - mediocre. Again, wanted to like it - just didn't make the cut. read more

Went out for dinner with family and was so so impressed. Even just walking inside was a whole vibe- quiet background music, colorful wall hangings, and an accent wall of bottles that looks super cool. Small tables and comfortable booths make up the cozy eating space and you can see the chefs making some of the rolls right up at the counter. We had the udon and the shumai and Mongolian dumplings and it was all delivered super fast and with great service. Waitstaff was very attentive and checked on us a lot. The lunchtime special deal was incredible - we feasted on a variety of delicious Vegetarian sushi rolls, including AAC, Fried Banana, Mango, Avocado Peanut, Veg Tempura, and Sweet Potato. And to quench our thirst, we tried the Strawberry Japanese Soda drink, which was surprisingly good! It was my first time trying Japanese soda, and I'm hooked! The food was incredibly fresh and flavorful, and the service was great. However, be warned that the seating area is small, so there might be a wait for a table. But trust me, it's worth the wait! ***SUSHI GOAT ALERT***…read more The best! This is my only goto place for sushi. It is super fresh. The rice is super soft and the rolls are super busy looking very colorful and so so tasty. I don't like to get any seeds or sauce on my rolls. The service here is so spectacular. I love coming here so much. The folks that work here are Japanese & they are so incredibly friendly. The prices is here are literally pre-Covid prices so I like to tip them really well so this place is will always be around. I feel like all of the good restaurants are in Edina!
