I'm upset that this place is 4.5 stars and not a full 5 stars! The food here is AMAZING - from taste to portions and price! For ~$22 (includes tax and tip!) you can get a HUGE portion of tagine with lots of veggies and/or meat. Frankly, you all are horrible people and should be ashamed of yourselves. I had one of the most outrageous dining experiences of my life today: here with a friend who has a very energetic and particular 20 month old son and we were desperate for pancakes for him. The bistro next to Amanouz thankfully had them, but not the kind of food my friend and I were looking for. We ordered pancakes and the manager at the bistro graciously directed us next door. Juggling the baby and trying to order more food, we snagged a table outdoors and went into Amanouz to order our meals - when the server FINALLY came out after 20 minutes with an iced coffee and saw we were still seated in front of the bistro, she refused service. I argued with her about how there weren't any tables in front of Amanouz and we couldn't go inside because the baby would scream and run around - mind you it is HOT and tight and dangerous inside for a toddler. Still she refused so I said I would go inside the bistro for permission. I spoke to the manager there who acknowledged there had been prior disputes about the seating arrangements but that because we had ordered food from them, it was absolutely fine. Begrudgingly, the server at Amanouz accepted this and I promised her that if anyone gave her issue, they could take it up with me. We did not get our food until 53 minutes after placing our order (two wraps!) ... multiple people who had ordered well after us had received their food... this was clearly a purposeful and petty move to punish us for not sitting in front of their restaurant. I am appalled. Where is your kindness, humanity, and sympathy for people in complicated situations? I will never ever return here and will be sure to let everyone I know who lives in Northampton and Westhampton what transpired today. read more

Date night did not disappoint at Amanouz Cafe. My dining partner has never tried Moroccan food before and this was spot on with lots of fresh food and flavor. My Bastilla was a little dry but the flavor was outstanding. The tagine came out hot and full of delightful flavors of fresh veggies, rich spices, and fresh herbs. It was so perfect. The side salad came with the Bastilla and it was so fresh and flavorful with the dressing. The staff was super helpful and friendly and they added some entertaining flair that made our outdoor dining experience special. I would definitely recommend. The restaurant had great reviews, so we tried it. We got couscous and bastilla, both classic Moroccan dishes. Unfortunately, both were disappointing. The couscous was missing spices, with the veggies tasting as if they were only just boiled in water. It was also missing the caramelized onions with raisins that is usually served with. The bastilla had a lot of chicken and ground almonds but was completely missing spices and did not have any coriander. Perhaps it was simply a bad day, but I would not go back to try again. read more

Had a mo-rockin' good time here on Saturday night! Ample available tables, helpful service, chill music & decor. You order from the large menu at the counter and then you sit with your number and wait for them to bring you your food when it's ready. The food quality (and quantity) at these price points can't be beat. We had the lamb tagine and the couscous royale. I used to love this place. This restaurant was extremely unprofessional while dealing with my catering request this summer. Even though we placed the order months in advance, I was in regular contact with them leading up....the day before they canceled the delivery with no notice, and no offer of helping us figure out what to do. It was a family religious event, and we had to hire a stranger less than 24 hours out, because they wouldn't even try to help us find someone. They weren't sorry, extremely rude even though the error was theirs. After 15 years of business, I would never go there again. Do not use them for catering! read more

Best Mediterranean food around! Stopped in on a hot Friday night for a quick dinner. Outdoor seating was available and offers a lot of extra space to this small restaurant. My wife had the Marrakech Plate, stewed slightly spicy lentils over a thick crepe topped with succulent lamb. I ask the staff for a fish recommendation. I went with the suggestion of salmon kebab. I had mine with a salad, but you could get rice or couscous. I was totally skeptical that the salmon would be woefully over cooked. To my delight it was charred on the outside and beautifully moist on the inside. The portion was generous and the veggies on the skewer were well seasoned. I've gone here now three times and each one is worse, so I guess I'm going to cut it off here. Last time some Aussie (?) was behind the counter, super nice if a little too talkative. Overall not a bad visit but I remember the food being much better a few years back. Tonight a woman was behind the counter, incredibly rude and even rolled her eyes at me for reminding the staff that I ordered my food to-go as I saw they were about to put it on plates for dining in. Once my order was completed and packed up, she put it off to the side and forgot about it even though I was standing right there. One of the other folks in the back asked what I was doing still standing there, and if I was waiting on an order. I replied that I was, and heard an "oops" muttered from the woman in the back, and she handed me my food as if it had just finished. Normally I'd understand if it was busy, things happen, but I was the only one standing there. Onto the food, the veggies in my falafel sandwich and tomatoes in my hummus were completely sour. The tang stung my tongue so badly it was pretty inedible. Furthermore, the veggies in my sandwich were so full of liquid it completely fell apart. All in all I'm good on coming back. I had two decent meals here so overall just seems like they're struggling to find good help. read more

Who would have thought one of the best restaurants in Northampton is a Moroccan restaurant? I give them two thumbs up. It's a very chill, self-serve kind of atmosphere (so this isn't a place for being pampered). The food is absolutely delicious. Their tagine (Moroccan stew) is a must try - we had the lamb version with rice, fantastic flavors! Mint tea was sweet but subtle and was great as an after-meal palate cleanser. Got their sparking apple soda which my kid loved. Their Shawerma - so much flavor and one of the best that I've had! I had it in a lavash so it wasn't too heavy. (You can also get it in a baguette) Even though it's pretty much self serve (we went upto the counter to place the order and they gave us a number sign to place on the table), there was someone running around cleaning up the tables and taking orders or helping you in any way necessary. He was running around by himself but still in a wonderful spirit and very friendly to everyone that needed his assistance. As far as I am concerned, and after traveling the world (in search of good food among other things), living in San Francisco, NYC, and Madrid,, Cafe Amanous serves some of the tastiest Moroccan Cuisine North of The Metropolitan Area... Beautifully presented and spiced to perfection. My breakfast this morning, heavenly. Scrambled Eggs with spiced turnip greens, and a Portuguese muffin & espresso (i often order ala carte depending on the mood of the day), but having returned many times whenever visiting Northampton, MA., straight of the menu is always a pleasure. My Favorites: the Exotic Salad, Salmon Kabob, Shwarma, lentil soup, Moroccan Mint Tea, steamed eggs with a dill sauce, and of course anything with those incredible Turnip Greens. I've never been much of an omelet fan, but if you are, you'll just have to write your own review. Cafe seating outside on a nice day (another fave), friendly staff, and really reasonable prices. Went to this location on a whim. At arrival, the cashier was extremely friendly and knowledgeable. He provided me with substantial information on gluten free options in terms of modifications for each item. Our group sat down in their outdoor sweating and asked for water in which the provided bottled water at $3 each. Then I expressed that I was allergic to peppers. The waiter noted it down and repeated it. When I get my food, it had peppers in it. I also ordered an appetizer which also had peppers in it. When it came back out the second time after being remade, it continued to have peppers in it. read more

Living 15 minutes from Northampton, I've walked and driven by this place a million and one times. Never really had a hankering for Mediterranean food. Located in the center of NoHo I'm sure the establishment is a popular one. My brother suggested coming here tonight after being in town for a few, and we were starving. He'd been here previous and knows I enjoy trying new things. The restaurant is on the smaller side but there's still plenty of room to move around and have space. Initially to be honest, not many things peaked my interest on the menu. But, I went with the Couscous with Chicken and had not anticipated how huge the serving was! For only $10.95! The menu only says "Couscous with Chicken" but it also comes with chick peas, zucchini, carrots, butternut squash, and I think the other veggie was eggplant? I couldn't exactly tell with how it was cooked. This dish itself wasn't bad. The chicken however was actually pretty dry. The veggies on the other hand, were absolutely delicious. I wish I'd ordered the couscous with vegetables just to have had more!! Would I go back there? Eh...maybe? There's a lot more options for food around town I'd go to first. read more

We ordered all three baklavas to try : almond , pistachio and walnut. We had chicken kebab over rice , swordfish steak , royal feast and spinach and feta pie and a shawarma sandwich. All the baklavas are great - not sweet. The shawarma and the chicken kebab are excellent. And the royal feast vegetables are amazing. I prefer the rice that came with the chicken than the Spanish rice that came with the swordfish. Great meal but we had to box some of it home. read more

Came here first almost 20 years ago. When I'm in the area, I tend to pop in here. Can only tell it like it is. Two Tagine dishes--chicken and kefta (beef). Both were not very good. This was a Friday night. 8 pm ish. The beef one was salty beyond the ocean--no other flavors popped. The chicken one was just wrong. The food was nothing like what it was ten to twenty years go. Even the bed of rice each dish was on was salty, really salty. If you've eaten Moroccan food in big cities, you know the taste. This was bad--should have had subs and pizza. Probably my favorite food place in dtown noho. So much variety and everything does feel really fresh. The tagines are a must have. The chicken and couscous is perfectly made(drooling: now I need to go back again) If you are there do make sure to get the Moroccan tea. You'll definitely love that(I am not ashamed to say am a bit snooty when it comes to tea as I am from the land of one of the best tea available in the world). In town visiting- we had a great experience here! There's something to be said about good food made with fresh ingredients that makes you feel good when you leave. You can find that here. Although quaint and minimal seating, it was fun to become part of the ambiance. Have to go to the bathroom? That's ok- walk through the kitchen and say hello to all of the cooks. The team here today was kind and welcoming. Amazing food!!! Hummus was the perfect additive to our pitas (shawarma and chicken kabobs). The couscous was perfectly seasoned (couscous and vegetables). We were all happy with our selections. It's clear that anyone could come here and find something they like! I am interested in trying the breakfast options next time. Be prepared to get messy! Love, love the food. Prices are great for the quality and quantity. A go to. Recommend the Exotic Salad in the summertime, Couscous with Chicken, or any of the Tangine options any time of year. So many pastries to choose from, its overwhelming! Vegetarian choices. Not a place if you're in a rush. Couscous with Chicken has large slices of stewed carrot, eggplant, zucchini, potato, butternut squash, and green pepper. Tangine is also brimming with veggies. Felafal wrap is good but plain, others in town use more non traditional fillings and therefore are more flavorful. Very casual. Cozy table spacing. Bus your own table = may need to wipe up after the party before you. If table service is your thing, this is not the place for you. read more

I have eaten here so many times in my life, and it is still the same wonderful restaurant Abid opened in the 1990s. I always have tagine with merquez, but everything is good: "royal feast", shwarma or falafel on a baguette, the sweet green tea, lentil soup, bastilla. They also have excellent breakfast.
