The owner alone is a reason to go here. He shows hospitality that I feel has slowly faded away in most businesses unfortunately. He always has smile and a welcomes you in the restaurant. Sometimes he will give you fresh falafel while your waiting for your order. He has always been generous and gives great recommendations. Now the food: well its just absolutely amazing. I have tried to whole menu at this point and can confidently say its ALL amazing food. I highly recommended the falafel, jedra rice, hummus and babaganoush. Cant forget about the desserts. Pita Pockets is a family business. They are making gyros, pitas, and sandwiches all day. They have a comfy dine-in section, and greet you as you come in. Don't be surprised if there's a line, because that's the one thing they power through first. I'm used to seeing just the proprietor, but often I'll meet his staff who I find friendly, skilled, and diligent to their stations. I would love to say more but the proprietor is so humble that I don't know his name yet, just that Pita Pockets consistently cooks good food. Apparently, their Turbo pocket is original, and could be a good journalism scoop. Otherwise, they'd need food carts outside to keep up with much more traffic. Maybe someday there's a Turbo Trust passing down the restaurant? :) read more

A little off the beaten path - that is, on a side street off of Main - is this small unprepossessing eatery. But what a pleasant find! Terrific falafels, gyros, baba ganoush, hummus, kabobs, and more - all delicious and served in a friendly welcoming manner. The proprietors are Syrian and they give these popular dishes a different - but good! - twist. For desserts, they have baklava of course, but also try their Syrian harissa (yes, harissa - not the chili paste, but in Syria it's the name of a semolina and rose water-scented syrup dessert). I had their gyro plate and it was very tasty; my wife's falafel pita wrap was equally good - nice fluffy and crisp falafels and a smoky baba ganoush; and my daughter really enjoyed the chicken kabob wrap. We ordered takeout from here and I was disappointed. The chips and baba Gannouch were very good but the chicken kabob pita was bland and had little taste- more tzatziki and oregano needed. Did not care for the baklava and what is that 3rd thing in the box that is green? Wish they had pastries and moussaka or pastitsio but I guess with the name pocket it implies that although they do have platters and there should be an alternative for those of us that don't like lentils. Hole in the wall place in this nice little town. Should surely be a hit with the University crowd. Got the chicken and falafel plates, which were quite filling, and baklava, which seemed appropriately sweet and well flavored. The plates come with lentil rice, which is richer and adds a nice touch over plain rice. The chicken kabab was juicy and nicely charred without any stringy bits while the felafel, shaped like donuts, were crisp and fresh. Great little place off the side of the street in Amherst! It smelled so good while we were waiting and by the time we got our food we were so hungry we didn't even think to take pics :). I got the Mediterranean plate, which was a Greek salad with falafel and stuffed grape leaves. My mom got the falafel wrap. It was all delicious!! The falafel were very crispy but still moist inside, and even though I had never had the grape leaves before i was very impressed! 10/10 Love the clear labeling of vegan options on the menu, and the prices were amazing too especially for the area and being in a college town.
