One look at the menu and it is all of my favorite things like stuffed grape leaves, chicken kabob wraps, rice and lentils, fresh salads and creamy dips. My last trip to Pita Pockets was on our way out of town and we were looking for something to eat fairly easily on the road. While a giant platter and massive sandwich might not have been perfectly easy, they were certainly tasty and well worth the small mess. My chicken kabab platter was filled with perfectly cooked chicken, lentils and rice, a bit of hummus and tzatziki and a side of salad. It was huge and well worth the price. The space was filled with tables and pretty ideal for a casual but good lunch or dinner. The team behind the counter was friendly and had us in and out in no time. First thing I saw when I walked in (other than the fact that there was a huge line and not an available table in sight) was a guy in the back taking that fresh falafel batter and frying them up. "We're definitely eating here" "Really? but there's no tables available.." "We'll wait" In the end we didn't have to wait that long as people were coming and going like a well-choreographed dance. Probably one of the best falafels I've ever had if I'm honest and was only able to eat half of it cause we ordered fries and those were pretty good too. This was one of the highest rated places to eat in Northampton so I had to try it out. Got there and there was already a bit of a line but it moves pretty fast. Also I appreciate this fast casual style where if you don't finish what you eat you can just take it back home immediately. I ordered the Shawarma Pita Pocket and I'm honestly extremely impressed. First of all, the portion sizes were humongous partially because of how many different customizable ingredients you can put in here. The fact that you can put red onions, yellow onions, and caramelized onions all in the pita pocket is quite incredible. Also I think what really elevated the entire pocket was the slightly sweet mild red sauce that they put in which I feel like should be a part of every shawarma from now on. It was a good way to cut the fattiness and salinity from the beef and lamb mix. Overall, great cheap eat in Northampton and I would definitely come back from more if I was living here full-time! read more

Came here for lunch on a Saturday afternoon. Had basically no wait time to order, and there were plenty of open seats had we decided to dine in My partner had come here a lot in her time living in the area and insisted we eat here on our visit since it was the best falafel she'd ever had and it absolutely lived up to the hype! I went for a pita with chicken and falafel, along with their extra spicy sauce and hummus. The falafel had a great crunch to it with tons of flavor, and also had essentially no oil. I'm glad they loaded the sauce on the chicken side because the falafel really didn't need much extra besides the hummus. The chicken was good, but certainly paled in comparison to the falafel. Their spicy sauce is really tasty but doesn't mess around. Overall this is a great bang for your buck and punches way above its weight in terms of quality for what you'd expect in western Massachusetts. In the past couple weeks I've driven up from CT to get to either Vermont or Montreal, and I looked up quick eats on the way and discovered Pita Pockets in Northampton. I'm SO glad I found it, it's a perfect spot to get something that's filling but doesn't make you feel gross, and the quality is top notch. Value wise is great as well, a falafel pita is something like $8! The falafel is honestly the best I've ever had. The outside is not too crispy/crunchy, has a great flavor, and crumbles in your mouth. Sometimes I find that falafel has too thick of an outside crunch, or that it has a sandy texture but Pita Pockets has none of that. The meat they add to your sandwich/meal is cooked to order, the first time I went I got the chicken falafel combo pocket. Honestly the chicken was too much, so on second visit I just had the falafel and that was perfect. The pita is perfectly chewy and soft and holds everything together well. They have lots of sauces to choose from - I added hummus, tzatziki, and garlic sauce and I thought it worked really well together. HIGHLY RECOMMEND. The town is cute too if you're coming from out of town, there's a nice park across the street and you can sit there if you don't want to eat inside. read more

When I have a hankering for a falafel, I go to Pita Pockets. The only ingredient that I think could be better is their hot sauce. The one they serve tastes like ketchup. That is not for me, but I am picky about hot sauce. I like the set-up of being able to choose exactly what goes into your sandwich/wrap. I haven't gone to the Northampton location in a while, but I did love how sassy the owner was. He would give people a hard time, playfully, about what they weren't adding to their wrap. Wow! We were traveling back to CT from skiing in VT and did a yelp search for Mediterranean cuisine and we couldn't have been happier. From the warm greeting we received upon entering, to the authentic menu offering of dinners, plates and pockets (wraps) - and really large portions! We ordered 2 dinner plates, plus added falafel, stuffed grape leaves and Baklava! The sauces added so much flavor and variety too. We added a Pita pocket to go (for our hungry teenager waiting at home) and our own take home plates will be plenty for another complete meal. Great taste and value!! This place is awesome. I tried it a few times and haven't left disappointed. The best part is that the staff is always cheery and super friendly. They are not offering dine in or outdoor seating at the moment but it's okay, I'll gladly eat in my car! I always order the Falafel Pocket and my mother the Shawarma plate. Consistently delicious. I love the Tzatziki sauce and garlic paste. We always have leftovers. The only thing that bothers me is sometimes workers' hair is not fully pulled back. This makes me extra vigilant and observant towards every bite of food I take. Yet this never discourages me to stop dining here as the food and hospitality outweighs this issue. read more

Do not go if you have any food allergies! I went in and ordered a falafel. The person behind the counter asked me, "hot sauce?" and I said "No" very clearly and she slathered a spoonful of hot sauce on. I repeated that I had said "no" to hot sauce and she rolled her eyes and scraped the hot sauce off and proceeded to continue. I told her to give me a fresh wrapper and that you cannot scrape things off when people ordered without it and that is a health code violation. I told her if I was allergic to hot sauce she could send me to the hospital. Then she asked me, "lettuce?" to which I again said "No" and she put it on there anyway. I repeated once more that she has to WAIT for the customer response and LISTEN or she will end up killing someone. She argued with me that "there's a line" and I told her that is no excuse to violate health codes. She scraped the lettuce off, just as she had done with the hot sauce. I couldn't believe this person. Surly attitude, horrible at listening to customers, gonna kill someone for sure. Also they don't cover any of the toppings bins so when they pull a topping out it mixes with other toppings. I've seen feta cheese land in the parsley, for instance. But it was gigantic! The pita chips were piled up high and there are 2 giant glops of the spread on the platter. Salads and wraps all have made-to order options based on preferences...it's a great place to stop in for a quick lunch, snack or dinner. We only got a Chicken Kebab Pita Pocket, Falafel app, and a container of hummus and a pita bread. We regret getting only One pita pocket, we absolutely should have gotten two it was so amazing. The chicken was cooked to perfection and the pita was so airy and delicious. Absolutely a wonderful and filling pocket. The falafel were also fried to a beautiful golden brown with a soft inside. It was my first time trying them and I absolutely was not disappointed! And we are big hummus fans; this was a flavor packed recipe for sure!! Pita Pockets is a family owned restaurant that is in what is identified as the old Subway building. I identify it as that place that everybody talks about, and the place my daughter insists we go to when we are in Northampton. As you would imagine, it is mostly Greek food but they make this phenomenal falafel. Imagine it actually being like a Subway where you can walk in and personalize the different types of sandwiches that you want , but they make all kinds of delicious Greek creations with incredible toppings that you normally don't have. Some of the dressings are so good you don't know which to choose. (I will not recommend choosing them all, that really would not taste good...) Even if Greek food is not your "thing",It is just a dream for somebody who likes to eat good food and a good sandwiches made fresh. read more

I've been in here 3-5 times, all different times of the day different days of the week and it has been EXCELLENT every time. The owners are super happy to see you, they great you like family, answer menu questions with courtesy while addressing concerns. They make great recommendations. And the food is great. Pita's are nothing fancy, but what they serve are fresh, well prepared, hot (or cold), well seasoned and served with a genuine smile.
