    Whipped feta
    Jojo S.

This place was packed when we got there, so we ended up sitting at the bar but honestly, it worked out great. The bartenders were super nice and attentive, even with how busy it was, which I really appreciated. I started with the whipped feta, and WOW... it came with hot, fluffy pita bread and was absolutely delicious. I also ordered some veggies, and those were just as good fresh and flavorful. For my main, I got shrimp, steak, chicken, and rice. It was decent, but not something I'd go out of my way for again. It didn't quite live up to how amazing the appetizers were. Overall, I'd definitely come back but mainly for that whipped feta. That alone is worth the visit!

If you're hankering for middle eastern cuisine, this place is where it's at. Service is amazing - delicious cocktails- and a menu that has a little something for every palate, even the picky eater. Whipped feta crudités Outta this world. The roasted/seasoned chick peas are so delicious. Had to attempt at home. If you're in the West Hartford area... a must. Great atmosphere- great bar, parking lots in the area- priced accordingly. Highly recommend

This place is the best! Great for vegetarians and vegans. In West Hartford, lovely outdoor seating. The staff is nice and the food is yummy! They have the best hummus is CT! I LOVE their roasted eggplant dish! Great date spot!

Updating bc it's been a while since I did a review. No notes. None. We ordered a million plates. Still want more. The mussels were my favorite of the day. This is what we ordered. The staff is amazing. Super snowy day and it was great to be in a big booth with 6 of us for a belated Christmas lunch. My husband and I came here for a date night while visiting Hartford from Boston, and it did not disappoint. We weren't starving, but we wanted to explore the local food scene after seeing this spot on Instagram--and we're so glad we did. The food was excellent. The chicken shawarma was incredibly flavorful, and I ordered a shrimp dish that had just the right amount of heat--perfectly balanced without being overpowering. Looking around, it was clear we picked a good place--so many tables were filled with authentic dishes, and the lamb shank seemed especially popular. Service was a highlight. Our waiter was fantastic--he walked us through the menu and helped us choose dishes based on our preferences, which made the experience feel thoughtful and personalized. Despite it being a packed Friday night, we were seated quickly, and the food came out fast. That said, I'd recommend making a reservation since it does get busy. The only downside was that the dining area was a bit loud, but not enough to take away from the overall experience. Overall, a great spot for a date night or a lively dinner out. We left really pleased with everything we ordered and would definitely come back.

    Morocco tagine

The food and service was definitely really good, and I love that about this place. But my main difference with the tagine is the plating is very different it doesn't come in the same bowl it's served in. I went to Morocco recently and actually had it there in the bowl it was cooked in.

My wife and I recently visited Zohara for a Sunday afternoon date. First class atmosphere. Service was friendly, efficient and effective. As we scanned the Menu, my wife said "Do you want to get the Meshta Feast?" I did! And it was two plus hours of epic Mediterranean deliciousness. A Top 5 Dining Experience of 2025. Zohara's Meshta Feast requires whole table participation. $70 per person. Seemingly expensive, but a good value that yielded meals of leftovers. The meal starts with a salatim, hummus, dip and dippable course. Ours included 7 separate dips and snacks, fresh pita, and veggies. All very good. My favorite is the Muhammara, a bright puréed blend of peppers and walnuts. Course Two includes assorted Mezzes, like the crispy Zatar Chicken, lamb filled Moroccan Cigars, Fattoush and a special Shakshuka. Again, everything was very good. Our large plate course included our requested Seafood Tagine, with almost impossibly tender octopus, mussels, shrimp, and squid, with Israeli cous cous in an amazing saffron sauce. Zohara also served coal-fired skewers of Black Garlic Filet, Harissa Charred Chicken and organic Salmon. The filet was fork-cut tender. They also served a good-garlicky roasted potato and long hot side that was one of the best foods I've eaten this year. The Meshta includes dessert too! We had a delicious and beautifully plated Dubai Chocolate cake, and a phyllo dough creation. I highly recommend the Zohara Meshta Feast. It would be perfect to explore with a group of friends and family. 5 Stars

I would totally recommend! We sat at the bar and the bartender was attentive and super kind. The restaurant is a great vibe, can be a little hectic, but only because it's so busy bc of how good it is! Would recommend the whipped feta and getting a few apps and sharing!

On a Saturday at 5:15 we thought we were going to be turned away because of the packed reservation schedule but the hostess graciously said we could have a table if we could vacate it by 6:30. Done! Note to self:get a reservation next time! We were seated in a booth by the bar where it was super entertaining to watch the bartenders. Our server was very knowledgeable and helpful, telling us all about the menu and the favorites that people rave about. Honestly, after our experience I bet everything is amazing. We started off with a Negroni, a Limonana, and a pomegranate soda. All of them were aesthetically pleasing and delicious. For starters, we ordered the lamb ragú hummus which comes with fresh baked pitas. I'm not usually a fan of lamb, but wow! It was so savory and well seasoned, it was an explosion of flavor alongside the garlicky goodness of the hummus. We received fresh veggies and whipped feta compliments of the chef, and it was so good!--endives, broccoli florets, purple carrots (I think). The charred broccoli was lemony and also well seasoned. The calamari was so scrumptious and cooked to perfection, and the chicken shawarma was also yummy though sweeter than I expected. We loved every sip and every bite and will endeavor to obtain a reservation next time we're in town!

This is probably one of the finest Mediterranean places I have been to in the area. This place is perfectly located in the heart of the city with an amazing menu and decent prices. We ordered the crispy zaatar chicken, lamb couscous, meat platter. Each dish was best in its kind. The service was fairly quick and laid back for a weekday lunch. I'll definitely visit again.

If you are looking for a nice spot to eat with friends, coworkers, or date night, this is the place. I'm a huge fan of Mediterranean food and this place did not disappoint. Walking in we was greeted and received great service. We ordered several appetizers to share: meatballs, beet spread, olives, and oysters. My favorite was the oysters! They were cooked to perfection and the sauce was oh sooo good! I wanted to drizzle that sauce on everything and take it to go. I wasn't a huge fan of the snapper due to it was dry. The chicken, steak and salmon skewers were delicious

    What are the "vegan options"?

The Falafel is great and the hummus is AMAZING! You can usually ask the waitress for Vegan options! Or just sub your meat for the falafel or extra veggies! I hope that helps.

City Kebab is a Middle Eastern kebab restaurant that opened in Hartford, Connecticut in September…read more2023. It was founded by husband and wife Uzbek immigrants Timur Rakhimov and Aziza Djalmamedova. The couple immigrated to the United States from Uzbekistan in 2010. After over a decade of education, training, and hard work, they decided to try their luck as restaurateurs. They found a space that used to be home to Hook & Ladder Restaurant (right next to Hartford Fire Department's historic South Green Station). The couple hired Turkish immigrant Hasan Korkmaz as their head chef. Together, they curated a menu full of traditional Turkish and Uzbek cuisine that is all prepared in accordance with halal dietary laws. Some of the menu items include kebabs, samsas, falafel, gyro, and mezzo platters. I recently dined at City Kebab while I was in Hartford to see a concert. I checked Yelp to see if there was anywhere good to grab dinner before the show, and Middle Eastern/Mediterranean cuisine sounded fantastic to me. When I entered, I was greeted by the very friendly co-owner Timur, who said, "I work for my wife. She's the real boss." After being seated, I began to look over the menu. When Timur returned, he tried to recommend that I get gyro. I told him, "Oh no. I know exactly what I want. I'd like to order a variety of small plates to sample. I'm a local food blogger and I want an authentic experience." Timur was just ecstatic and quickly went to give my order to the kitchen staff. I started off first with a small "Mixed Cold Appetizer" (combo of hummus, babganush, haydari, soslu patlican, antep ezme, avocado ezme), the "Falafel" (mixture of chickpeas, parsley, onions, garlic, Middle Eastern spices, deep fried) and a small teapot of "Turkish Black Tea". Timur brought me some complimentary "Ramazan Pidesi" (Turkish Bread) as well as a glass of "Fresh Squeezed Lemonade". He said, "You need to try this!" So far, everything was excellent! For the main course, I had the "Mixed Grill" (mixture of chicken shish, beef shish, kofte, lamb adana, beef & lamb gyro, served w/ white rice, bulgur rice, Mediterranean salad). It was a symphony of Mediterranean flavors! Timur surprised me with a "Pumpkin Samsa" (pumpkin filling in crispy pastry, seasoned with spices, served w/ tomato sauce) and said, "You can't leave without trying this. It's an Uzbek specialty!" It was very tasty! Before the meal was over, he said, "Save some room. I have another surprise for you at the end." He brought me "Künefe with Dondurma" (Turkish ice cream). I had never tried this before. Stuffed with melted mozzarella and then topped with pistachio and almond crumbles, it was simply divine! I repeatedly thanked Timur for his hospitality and for sharing his culinary cultural traditions with me. I had enough leftovers for both my wife and I to have for dinner the following evening. I'll definitely be returning with my whole family. If you're looking for an authentic Middle Eastern culinary experience in Hartford, then look no further than City Kebab!
