You might wonder...what? Another Mexican restaurant in Bushwick? Why? Here's why. Amaranto is not "another" Mexican restaurant. It serves Mexican cuisine, not fast food, and ups the ante even on the things with which you may be familiar. Like tacos and guacamole. Please don't stop there. The entrees are first class. Made with incredibly fresh ingredients, lovingly prepared and served beautifully. With great pride. My companion had the pork chop and kvelled. I had the snapper which was perfectly cooked and oh the melange of veg...leaves of brussels sprouts, snap peas, roasted corn, nuggets of peppers and slivers of piquant black olives. A delicate pool of green sauce on the side. They've stopped serving lunch because business does not yet demand it and they won't let fresh ingredients just sit there. Brunch is coming. In the meantime, go and have a wonderful dinner. You'll definitely want to go back. And this new and terrific place needs your support. read more

Amazing find! The food is exceptional -- creative but also authentic Mexican. This is not your average burrito joint -- this is a true gem! The real deal. There's not a lot of atmosphere, but the surprisingly elegant plates of deeply flavored cuisine and the warm, excellent service more than make up for it. We also liked the byob policy, and they even gave us some limes to go with our coronas (which we bought at the deli right across the street). The FISH TACOS!! maybe some of the best I've ever had. The roasted cauliflower and unique sauce really make them amazing. I also thought the yucca fries were perfect -- crispy and salty with plenty of that wonderful yucca texture and flavor that I love. The "Garden" dish was a hearty mix of vegetables over a fantastic "green mole" -- a uniquely satisfying vegan option. Can't wait to go back! read more

My boyfriend and I love this restaurant and will continue to come back - great drinks, great spicy guac, and the chicken adobado is incredible. One thing I have a problem with is the number of plastic straws used by this restaurant. Not to be obnoxious, but 500 million straws are used and discarded every day in the US. That's 175 Billion a year filtering into landfills and littering our oceans. I encourage Amaranto to only provide straws on request and to use reusable options when possible. This is a national movement and I would love to see a neighborhood favorite participate. read more

Ate here a couple of weeks ago, because of the good reviews and the fact that it's about a 5 minute walk from the apartment. Good Mexican food might be the hardest cuisine to find in this part of the country, let alone the city. Amaranto's food is pretty close to on par with Casa Enrique (the only other non hole in the wall good Mexican food I know of), which has a Michelin star. I had the mole enchiladas and tried the tacos. The tacos were as good as they could be, but the fact that the mole was as good as it was is important. Mole is a pain in the ass to make. The asses as Amaranto must be strong, to quite strong. There are also many different ways to drink mescal there, and drinking mescal is good. read more

Delicious food, affordable prices, and friendly staff. The tacos are all great, but my favorite would have to be the pork. The pork was a bit over cooked but the pineapple ala plancha and salsa cascabel that come with it strike up a perfect, harmonious taste. The chicken, steak, and fish tacos were also pretty satisfying. The stuffed avocado is delicious when you get a bite of the avocado, shrimp, and sauce together. The workers are so adorable and attentive it gives you hope that there are ppl that understands the value of customer service. Now, I gave this place 5 stars simply due to the flavors of their dishes. This is seriously some of the BEST chicken I've had in forever! Seasoned just right and oh so tender. We came to this restaurant very late on a Saturday night. The restaurant has a nice decor, and we were seated immediately. They have a nice menu with good variety and their drink menu looked very interesting. We had the crab tostadoes, seafood rice plate, and the enchiladas. The food itself was great, extremely tasty, and I loved the presentation of the seafood rice plate. My girlfriend ordered one drink which was not very good which was the only negative; however, they were super nice about it, replaced her drink with another one she ordered, and took it off our bill. It was a great experience and I'm glad to have tried this restaurant. Happy that we have it in our neighborhood. read more

The crab tostadas were just divine. So fresh and crunchy and beautifully presented. Fried fish tacos on POINT. Steak ones good as well but next time will just order X3 of the fish. Mole enchiladas were like nothing I've ever tasted. The sauce was very rich but somehow not too overwhelming. Tender meat and tortillas crunchy underneath. (Almost) most importantly... BYOB! I think our meal came out to ~$40 bucks with tip. Oh, and the dude working (questionably owner?) is just about the nicest person I've encountered in NYC dining. This place is a gem. So this seems like the best place to visit in the area being that my little cousins were in town from NC. Wrong decision!!! Our bill came to 69 dollars which was great we put in 40 cash and the rest debit which should only be a 29 dollar difference. This morning I wake up to a debit of 102.49 which I did not authorize. The food was great I am just upset at the fact that they charged my card more than the amount on the bill and pocketed the cash. There's plenty of other Mexican restaurants in the area. Traditional Guac: Arrived with salted corn tortilla chips. The guacamole was a good starter and overall enjoyable. The flavors were well combined, however, the dish could have been slightly more elevated with blue corn chips or something with a hint more pizazz. 2. The Amaranto Salad: a Must order if you like titilate your palate and your eyes! The plating was a stunning surprise; I almost didn't want to eat it. The jicama, dark greens, beets - all well tossed in their delicious dressing. It arrived with a pickled baby carrot that was marinated in some sort of apricot glaze. 3. Catch of the Day: today's was grouper (from Mexico)! Over a bed of Brussels sprouts, mushrooms, carrots, baked grape tomatoes, and dark bold mole. Presentation was lovely, and the fish itself was perfect: cooked and seasoned. Fresh and flaky. I will be returning for this! 4. My companion choose the Steak NY. He said it was juicy and tender, cooked well. But it was sauce that took the equation from good to agradablé. This is one the best restaurant in Brooklyn, we loved the pork and steak tacos, my daughter loves the chicken quesadilla and my husband loved the chorizo burrito, y it came with a delicious salad on the side which made it extra special. Random Sunday where my husband and I decided to eat out. low and behold we came across this place, thanks to Yelp (I love to bookmark places and try them out). We came in on a Sunday early afternoon and the place was empty. When I see an empty place I automatically think that maybe this place isn't so good. We only tried their tacos - chicken, fish, and steak. all 3 were amazing. Usually most tacos taste the same but they had this special sauce they put on there and mmmmmmm. I definitely could have had more tacos but I didn't want to out eat my husband, how embarrassing that would be! I stuck with two. It filled me up, but I couldve had one last one. This is the most authentic Mexican Restaurant I've had in New York! We ordered one of each type of taco (Steak, Chicken, Pork & Fish) Each has a distinct seasoning and flavor although the chicken and steak were both abbot spicy, they were very good. Personally my two favorite were the fish and the pork which were less spicy but all four were made on fresh tortillas! The seafood rice was very good, a little spicy but definitely worth it, it is so good. The enchiladas were also very delicious. I have been 3 times and every time tried something new, and been totally blown away. the dishes are complex, and the prices reasonable. Even their classic margarita pitchers are made with a mid-shelf tequila. Must try the hot/pumpkin seed guac, FISH taco, tamale, and seafood/rice. Also, put some shrimp in that mushroom/squash quesadilla, with some green salsa, and ooze into a heavenly bite. Only drawback is the disheveled service. Everyone is very nice, and trying hard, but most questions took several people and a few attempts to have answered. Amaranto is my favorite Mexican food in Bushwick. Fernando makes a mean margarita and the brunch, lunch, and dinner are all awesome. I like to chill there on a Sunday and watch football while eating various chips and quesadillas with hot sauces. My wife says i like to go there too much and makes me try other restaurants. I get really upset with her about this because I want to go to my favorite place and not some other place i have never heard of. read more

I hate to leave a negative review but this place is just not good. The drinks are fine. The service is fine. The outdoor tables are nice to have during COVID. But the meal I had was just not good. The guac was good; hard to screw up guac. The ceviche was flavorless; could have used some salt and citrus. The sauce they put on the fish tacos was gross and chemical-y tasting. (I know papalo is a cool obscure herb but there's a reason cilantro is more popular.) I tried a bite and left the rest for my bf, who choked them down. I'm still having stomach issues from the bite I had (this might be due to a previously unknown sensitivity to papalo but it also just tasted gross). Save your money for Zona Rosa or Guadalupe inn if you want a nice sit down meal, or visit a cheap and authentic hole-in-the-wall like Cocoyoc or Santa Ana. read more

Lovely ambience. Food was fantastic - chilequiles and eggs were perfect, had ceviche for an appetizer and it was zesty and fresh. Tamarind whiskey and Elote cocktails were great, will be back soon to try more. read more
