Been there several times and always order the same pizza medium mushroom usually very good . Last night was awful the mushrooms were almost black on the edges like they had been out a long time and the dough was just to thick almost like they used a large ball for a medium size never had such a thick pizza. We've eaten an Italian sandwich from here several times and it's always been decent. Today, not so much. The bread was not fresh! We ordered 2 double original Italians with oil on the side. Received the sandwiches and they had no oil in the bag. Opened our sandwiches and there was no salt and pepper on them! Or black olives! Went to the counter and asked for salt and pepper and oil on the side but apparently they were out of olives. Perhaps they could have told us this when we placed our order so we could have been informed rather than sad when we got our food? The service here has always been underwhelming but today was a new low. Management should pay attention to their 2.8 rating on Yelp and stop going by the fact that they're an Amato's chain and hope that customers don't read Yelp. read more

Delicious veggie calzone, full of vegetables. They listened to the exact order and removed unwanted ingredients. The salads are always good and subs too, since the vegetables are so fresh. We often order here, maybe 2-3 times a month-- sometimes more. The phone line is sometimes busy when calling in an order. Since Covid their hours have been shifty. On the road in the northeast and looking for a place to quick get something to go we happened upon Amato's. Living in the southwest we don't have Amato's so this allowed us to try something "new". Great little fast food Italian. I really love there cheesy bread sticks and the marinara sauce is amazing. My wife drank it once we ran out of sticks. I don't usually do reviews and I despise doing a negative one, but I'm sad to say Amato's has gone way downhill. I used to go to the India street all of the time and got a great sandwich. Tonight, my husband was so hungry so I got him a steak and cheese. He literally threw half of it out (which says a lot- he can tolerate most anything.)He said it was the worst sandwich he has ever had. I got my usual regular Italian. They forgot to put onions on it (so I put my own on) and the ham was a single razor thin slice spanning the entire sandwich. It was basically non existent. We were told about Amato's by friends in AZ (where we live) and it lived up to the hype. We LOVED it so much we ate there twice and took some home back to our hotel room. I was visiting Maine after living there for a long time. I live in Texas now and each time I go I need to stop at Amato's. It was my first time at this particular Amato's and it was fantastic. I ordered two small classic cold cut combos. My wife ordered no veggies and oil on the side with pepper relish. I ordered the same but all the way just no olives due to an allergy. I know of all things I'm allergic to, olives! I also ordered the pepper relish but when I got their the manager explained she didn't put any pepper relish in my sandwich since it contains olives. They actually took that into account and I am soo appreciative. I also ordered a pepperoni pizza with extra cheese. So good and that cheese pull. All in all, great regional sandwich pizza shop. read more

I am OVER this Amatos. And let me first say that I grew up eating Amatos from their south Portland location and not once had an issue there. I have been to this location exactly three times. And each of those three times I ordered online and got the complete wrong sandwich. Not a wrong condiment or ingredient, a totally wrong sandwich. Chicken salad instead of tuna, ham instead if tuna. Nothing like working a 10 hour day, ordering food and getting a completely disgusting sandwich and being too exhausted to drive back down there for them to do their job correctly the second time. There are too many places around here working their tails off to keep their clients for places like this to survive. read more

A tale of two Amato's. First, this one. We arrived n town for a few days vacation. Had plans to go to a local seafood restaurant. They told us an hour and half wait. We went to another "bar food" restaurant. They said at least an hour wait. So we said what the Hell, lets get anything. We found this Amato's. Understand, I grew up in Maine and my Dad bought Amato's Italian sandwiches when they cost 25 cents. Believe me, I know what they should taste like. In a word, fantastic! Now understand, these are not what they were in the 60's, but they were close enough to bring back all the memories. Thank you Kennebunk Amato's. Now for the Scarborough Amato's on Rte 1. We went there last summer. I had to have my Italian fix. In a word, HORRIBLE. The Scarborough Amato's, last year was just awful. My advice: Go to Kennebunk and get something good. I used to live in Portland many years ago and got them at the original Amato's on India St. Today a little disappointed as generally the tomatoes are a nice bright red and fresh. Not so today, also the sandwich was very skimpy. Roll was okay, I've had fresher. The staff was pleasant enough but, this wasn't as good as the one I had last year at the Biddeford location which I think may now be closed. Overall, not horrible. read more

Disappointed. I ordered a chicken salad wrap that was totally gross. First thing I noticed was that the sandwich had way more shredded lettuce on it than chicken salad. The gross part was that the chicken was not even real white meat chicken, as indicated on the menu! The meat was perfectly square pieces of composite "chicken" that was quite rubbery. Ordered 2 last night and there were literally 2 small tomatoes, 5 small slivers of grilled chicken on wilted lettuce! This is a hit or miss restaurant. Depending on who's working will depend on the quality or lack thereof regarding your food. Second trip in two weeks. Just got a Steak Bomb. Very very tasty. Nice portions of steak, mushrooms, onions, peppers and cheese. I like that they send it through the pizza oven conveyor to partially toast the sub roll and melt the cheese. read more

The chicken finger sub that I had was terrible. They put everything on it that I asked for but the chicken was over cooked and hard. It was not even cut and I could barely keep everything inside the bread. Customer service was good though I may not order another sub from there again read more
