First visit to this much-talked-about Italian provisions shop that also does respectable sandwiches. No parking, no rest rooms, and nowhere to sit and eat, but I was impressed by the friendliness of the staff and the speed by which they made the sandwich. -- Italian Sandwich: A heavy beast of a sandwich with a lengthy ciabatta roll stuffed with sopressata, salami, capicola, hot capicola, mortadella with pistachios, asiago cheese, arugula, tomato, onion, seasoned oil, pickles, and hot peppers. --- All of the flavors came through and the meats seemed of very high-quality. The pickles were more noticeable than the hots, but easy to adjust next time. The cheese tasted better as it went along, probably getting closer to room temperature where it really shines. --- The flavors and textures were all impressive with the one exception of the ciabatta-- a little on the firm side, but that could be symptomatic of my late Sunday visit. I give them a pass for that and applaud this VERY good sandwich. --- Incredible value! This had to weigh at least 3 pounds and could easily have fed two people, and for only slightly more than a McDonald's "value" meal. Normally, I would wait and try it again before reviewing, but the city of Lynn isn't easy for me to get to, so now it is and it's an easy 4. I had an electrician who lives in area of this bakery tell me about the bread made from semolina wheat imported from Italy. It took me a while to get here. Boy am I glad o made it. Ordered loaf of fresh Italian ciabatta bread. It was beautiful with a golden crust. When I got it home I cut it open and it was wonderful with air pockets light white bread and a crisp crust. I also bought a fresh pasta of fusilli which we made a week later. Fresh and top ingredients as it was made with Semolina wheat imported from Italy. Durum grains from Italy have been around for centuries. So good. Finally I had to have some Italian Anisette cookies and they were very good. The meat ball sub was one of the best I have had. The bread to ball ratio was perfect. My only complaint was I wish I had more sauce. The meat mix and spice of the balls was excellent. The mortadella sammich was reminiscent of my time I lived in Europe. Fresh bread, imported mortadella, a crap load of pistacchi and loads of fresh Stracciatella. Come hungry my friends. These are big sammichs. Ambiance is nonexistent, just a small store front selling homemade and imported goods. Service could be a bit be a bit "warmer". read more

I got an Italian sandwich that was loaded with "super high quality" Italian meats on a home made Baguette (they also have home made Ciabatta). Unbelievably tasty! Only thing is there is no where to eat inside, so you have to bring home or eat in the car. Didn't want to wait to eat until we got home as we had to stop at Dom's in Malden for steak tips and it was about 45 minutes home. Huge sub! Way too much for two IMO. Since it was my first visit, I was shown around the shop by a friendly lady. I ordered a meatball sandwich for lunch and eggplant parm for another day. The sandwich was absolutely delicious but because of its size I could only eat half of it!! It warmed up to perfection the following day. The eggplant parm was also pretty amazing. It had extra sauce to cover the pasta that I cooked to go along with it. I would like to say that I'm from Louisiana and we know how to cook so kudos to you Durum Pasta Company. So their Italian is unbelievable and one of the most amazing sandwiches I've ever had. The crusty bread is a great touch to the mountain of fresh Italian cold cuts they put on it. Would have given the sandwich 10 stars if I could. The meatball sub was good but the bread they use did not hold up and it was overly soggy throughout. I would rather pay 5.49 for a Market Basket sub then $15 for theirs I got my wife a premade meal and her exact opinion was " I don't know if I like this, or don't like this". Sandwiches (mortadella and prosciutto) were both meh. Didn't bother to finish them. Proportions wrong. The meat and cheese ravioli had an indescribable taste that was quite off putting. Wow what a find! Durum is a speciality pasta shop with dry pasta goods, prepared meals, fresh breads, and rows of pan pizza waiting to be taken home to your table. We drove by Durum, which occupies a well-lit shopfront on a corner on Lynn's busy Eastern Avenue just past CVS. Walking in we were immediately greeted by the fresh smell of bread and our eyes darted around looking for where the amazing smell was coming from. We noticed the the clean interior with refrigerators of fresh homemade raviolis, pastas, and prepared meals on one-side and shelves of dry pasta and bottled sauce on the other. One can see into the kitchen over rows of sicilian pizza. After our eyes - and noses - came back to their senses, we made our way over to the cashier and ordered an olive loaf (~$5) and the focaccia (~$3.50) and were not disappointed. They were gone by night's end. Next time, we'll be stopping by for the Sicilian pan pizza (cheese, pepperoni, meatball with ricotta and other choices sold by the slice) which was lined up next to the cash register beneath a glass display. My only complaint is the store hours as they are only open until 6, making it difficult to stop in to grab dinner after work. We had focaccia, rigatoni ( made it carbonara) for lunch on Saturday it was so delicious. For dessert we got Lemon Ricotta cookies and Sesame Seed cookies and enjoyed them A Big YUM !!!
