I waited a month to check out this new grocer located where Chevy Chase Supermarket used to be. I drive pass this location all the time. The first thing they need to do is make the entrance sign more visible. I turned too soon and I had to go back out to Connecticut Ave and try again. You will grab a ticket for two hours free parking underground. Luckily it was empty when I went. There are lots of carts (I like the small ones) to grab and take up the elevator. It is huge like a warehouse. The aisle shelving is really tall. And it is freezing inside! I should have worn a jacket, now I know for next time. The selection isn't bad, but a bit sparse, especially in the seafood and bakery departments. I didn't see fresh raw shrimp. I was hoping for some cranberry muffins like Whole Foods sells. They must partner with WF because they sell their 365 brand. Prices were surprisingly low. Cod was $7.99/#. Raspberries on sale were cheaper than Aldi. Luna bars are just $1.29 and they sell my favorite flavor that Trader Joe's doesn't carry anymore. What really brought me in was the coupon I received in my mail for $20 off a $40+ purchase. I easily spent over $50, so this discount really help. The only issue I had was one item that I wanted from the deli was not in the system so the worker couldn't print out a label. It left me pacing back and forth while they tried to figure it out. Finally the guy wrote the price on the lid. I am not a Prime member and like receipts, so I did the standard checkout. The cashier couldn't correctly read the price the guy wrote and overcharged me, then I had to wait again. Other than that, things when smoothly. I will probably be back if I receive more coupons or if they have sales worth stopping by for.

    Nothing fresh here

Amazon Fresh, it's an oxymoron. There is almost nothing fresh here. As you can see in the photos, the fresh food bins are almost totally empty. (The Pringles case in the vegetable bin was a fitting touch.) Amazon Empty? Amazon Pre-packaged? Soviet Amazon? You would think I went in the midst of a snowstorm, nope. Side note, I don't get why they put this epic-fail in this neighborhood. I recently went to the Whole Foods (Amazon) in Georgetown. It had an actual butcher meats, fresh fish and much better produce, including some unpackaged local stuff. They're owned by the same company. Did they think Chevy Chase couldn't sustain a Whole Foods? I used to complain about the Kensington Safeway, which is it's own worst enemy. No more. Amazon Fresh makes it look . . . well serviceable. On top of that, this store is depressing inside. PS: In general I think Amazon (Prime) is great. I had high hopes. PPS: Can we get a Balducci's here instead? Or at least a Whole Foods? Someone call corporate. PPS: I went in close to the opening. It was as bad, but I held off reviewing hoping it would get better. Nope.

This new Amazon Fresh just had its grand opening two days ago. It's a bit far from where we live but I figure it's a good new destination for a long bike ride so we decided to go check it out. Not as crowded as I expected although opening events are still ongoing through the weekend including giveaways of various snack etc. This is one of these stores that has "just walk out shopping" where once you have downloaded the Amazon app on your phone and scanned in you can just load up your groceries in one of the bags hanging around the store for this purpose and then just walk out when done (Ok - not quite "just walk out" as you will have to scan your phone again so that the App knows you've checked out in order to charge you accordingly). Alternately you can also use you credit card liked to an Amazon account to check in and out. There are a lot of staff around to assist. However if you are not ready for this futuristic style of shopping they still have a few old fashioned staffed check out counters - including credit card machines that don't seem to be able to handle contactless card reading. This is a bigger store than the first one in Friendship Heights, although not overwhelmingly so, a good size actually, and has pretty much the same stock (the bakery section is still disappointing). It's very spacious with wide aisles and high ceilings dotted with a gazillion cameras/sensors for the walk out shopping. Because of that everything is individually priced including loose unbagged veggies and fruits (no price stickers either) - how the sensors can accurately price pieces of loose fruits or heads of broccoli when you walk out is pretty incredible. However I'm not ready for that yet - in particular because they can't give you a digital receipt on the spot - I was told it'll take a couple of hours which would be a hassle in case there is a mistake in the charges. Clearly the technology still needs some improvement.

It was clean and shelves were mostly stocked. The side with the meat and seafood was nearly empty.

It's under an apartment building, which makes it feel less like parking and more like playing a live-action game of Tetris with SUVs. Honestly, it's a little bananas (pun absolutely intended). But hey, what can you do? You survive the parking, and then you get rewarded with the magical land of Trader Joe's. Once you step inside, it's a completely different story. The store is bright, fresh, and easy to navigate. No wandering around like you're trapped in a corn maze--everything is right where you expect it. Within minutes, my cart went from "just eggs and milk" to "how did I end up with three bags of frozen dumplings, Cookie Butter, and enough snacks to survive the apocalypse?" The food? Always fresh. The produce section is unbeetable (sorry, couldn't resist). The frozen aisle? A greatest hits collection of comfort food. And the snacks? Dangerous. You don't go to Trader Joe's to stick to a list--you go to "accidentally" find new obsessions. And don't even get me started on the seasonal items. I fall in love, get attached, and then they disappear faster than free samples. (RIP pumpkin kringle, gone too soon.) The staff here are the real MVPs. Everyone is friendly, cheerful, and ready to help. Need to find something? They'll walk you to it. Buy a new snack? They'll tell you the best way to enjoy it. The cashiers are basically snack therapists--nodding along, validating my frozen orange chicken addiction like it's a completely normal life choice. And of course, the flowers. Somehow Trader Joe's has the power to convince me I'm the kind of person who always has fresh flowers at home. For $5, my kitchen suddenly looks Pinterest-worthy, and my groceries feel fancier than they actually are. So yes--the parking is tight, but the payoff is worth it. Trader Joe's is the breadwinner of grocery stores (get it?). It's the place where you come for groceries but leave with joy, snacks, and probably a bag of peanut butter pretzels you never knew you kneaded.

It was a combination of plusses and minuses. First, I thought the store was quite clean and well stocked, always a good thing. I would have expected the produce area to be larger though. The meat department was again well stocked and clean, though some of the seafood, particularly the salmon, did not look fresh. They carry their Care One line of personal care items that I buy in my local stores. Prices seem a bit steeper down here, probably a result of the location. But in fairness, not having visited a lot of other grocery stores in the area, I can't say whether these prices are competitive or not. But most items not on sale were typically 10% more expensive than where I shop at home. The parking lot is inadequate for the amount of business they do, and I think they would have benefited from some additional entrances and exits. You do need to proceed with caution and keep a watchful eye when driving through it.

It's a smaller sized grocery store compared to some so may have less selection. Has a fair sized parking lot. Newer self checkouts have made the lines go a bit faster. I've been now FOUR straight Mondays and no roasted chicken. And, every SINGLE time I ask when more will be ready, they always say 30 to 40 minutes. I go at 3 pm, no chicken, i go at 430, no chicken, i got at 530, no chicken. When there isn't the "deal," there's always roasted chicken, but on Mondays, there's "30 to 40 minutes." Bait and switch much?!? This time, i talked to the manager (just arrived on shift today at 530) and told her that this keeps happening. She walked away from me as I was taking to her TWICE. I asked for a rain check since this is the 4th straight time and was dismissed. They actually don't seen to care at all. And it's always the same deli staff telling me it'll be 30 to 40 minutes. They know me by now but don't seem to care about this. They have the fried chicken and the habenero chicken, just never the roasted chicken. My daughter loves the roasted chicken, but not on Mondays I guess.
