I usually approach fusion restaurants with a healthy amount of skepticism. Too often, they feel like culinary speed dating, two cuisines forced together in the hope that chemistry magically appears. More often than not, one side dominates, the other disappears, and everybody loses. At Amazonia, a Japanese-Peruvian restaurant in Miami, that fear evaporates somewhere around the first bite. The opening argument came in the form of Gyoza Huancaína, pan-fried dumplings stuffed with lomo saltado and served with a vivid yellow huancaína sauce. It is the kind of dish that sounds gimmicky when described aloud. Then you eat it. The dumplings delivered deep savory notes from the beef, while the creamy sauce added brightness, spice, and richness. It felt less like a fusion experiment and more like a dish that had always existed. Four dumplings arrived on the plate. Four was not enough. My entrée, the Midori Risotto, continued the conversation between Japan and Peru. A strikingly green risotto made with kale and edamame arrived topped with grilled shrimp, microgreens, and dots of black garlic aioli. The rice was cooked properly, retaining a slight bite, while the edamame added texture and sweetness. The shrimp brought balance to the richness, and the black garlic aioli quietly tied everything together. It was a dish that managed to be both comforting and elegant. To drink, I ordered the Nikkei Lemonade, a blend of yuzu, Peruvian ginger, and huacatay. Bright, citrusy, and refreshing, it reset the palate after each bite and served as a reminder that the fusion extends beyond the food. My wife chose the braised short rib, a dish for diners who may not be ready to take the full leap into the restaurant's more adventurous offerings. Braised for 72 hours and served over mashed potatoes, it collapsed under the gentlest pressure from a fork. The beef was intensely flavorful, and the braising liquid was rich enough to make you consider asking for a spoon. Dessert brought one final East-meets-West moment. The Flan Nikkei paired a silky custard with miso caramel, whipped cream, and fresh strawberry. The miso added just enough savory depth to keep the sweetness from becoming predictable. It was a thoughtful ending to a meal built on thoughtful combinations. Amazonia succeeds because it understands something many fusion restaurants do not. Combining cuisines is not about piling flavors on top of one another. It is about finding where they naturally intersect. Here, Japanese precision and Peruvian boldness meet in the middle, and both emerge better for it. Fusion rarely wins me over, but Amazonia makes a compelling case for keeping an open mind. read more

My niece and I decided to try this restaurant on a whim. I'm so glad we did because the service and food was phenomenal!! Our server Claudia was so nice and helpful with explaining the different dishes. You also are treated to a complimentary mocktail and sweet yam bite to start. Claudia even provided us a tablet to see the pictures of the various dishes offered which helped us decide what to try. We started off with a mocktail that had coconut, passion fruit, hibiscus tea and pineapple. That drink was delicious and I didn't miss the alcohol. For starters we had the salmon crispy rice and that was so filling and delicious. Then we had the scallops in the black truffle sauce which was perfect a seared to perfection. We also ordered the kumogani roll which is crab based and that was very tasty with or without soy sauce. We loved everything we tried and will definitely go back to try other items on the menu. My hubby surprised me with a date night at Amazonia and I was blown away! I hadn't had such an amazing culinary experience in a long time. Everything we ate and drank at Amazonia was fantastic. I ordered a passion fruit pisco sour to start and my husband had a Mai Tai. Our waiter offered to bring a complementary starter drink and appetizer while we wait for our food. It was a nice and refreshing drink accompanied by a causa sweet potato. We ordered some crispy rice and bao short ribs as our official appetizer. They were so good!! I hadn't tried the crispy rice before. I loved it. As my main dish I ordered the Maroyana Rice. I personally love ají de gallina, this dish takes aji de gallina to the next level. I came to this place for a work dinner, and I am glad I did. The food and drinks were delicious! The place is a Japanese, Peruvian fusion restaurant, and a lot of it is served family style. So, you get to try a variety of different things. My absolute favorite item was the Orange Shrimp, and I was obsessed with the Japanese Martini! The other items we got (refer to photos) were good, but I would go back just for those two items: shrimp and martini. My least favorite was the Japanese sweet potato. I was hoping it was salmon with a sauce on top. The place is super beautiful! It's a wonderful spot for a date night right in Main Street Miami Lakes. They have indoor and outdoor seating. The staff was extremely attentive, and they remembered one of attendees, who is a frequent visitor. This little gem has such great decor. The service is friendly and genuine. The food was delicious. I didn't like having to cook my own $45 steak though. I get the "experience" and all but I was not a fan. Cooking it took time away from the experience and our seafood pasta got cold while we delved into the cooking piece. This is a choice I made though and by no means do I blame the restaurant. However, it won't stop me from going again! The ceviche and pasta were absolutely to die for and the steak despite the hassle was delicious too. Very flavorful food. The desserts were DECADENT. This place tries really, really hard but ultimately falls flat for the price. We tried a variety of food here, and I have to say you'll have the best luck if you steer clear of any seafood. The salmon nigiri, hamachi on our sushi roll and crab in our sushi roll didn't taste fresh at all. But, the wagyu nigiri, short rib bao and short rib dinner we're very well cooked and had good flavors. The potato puree in the short rib was super smooth. Have to give them props for that. My mocktail was good but super sweet, so avoid them if you're not into sweet drinks. My fiance said his cocktail was very good. The decor is nice but dusty and oily. I'm perplexed by the staff. Friendly and professional, but they would use a massive amount of table cleaning chemical, spraying it right on the table just a foot or so away from us eating and we were choking on fumes. They also squished us between two tables with a kid who was on this giant tablet with the volume real loud and he was yelling... Not really the restaurants fault but there were other 2 person tables available. Also, they let a lady at a regular, indoor dining table with a Chihuahua in her lap. Ultimately, we spent 182$ for fair to middling food and wouldn't recommend this place for those who might might not have discretionary income. Go to Korner 67 that's near by instead. read more

The service was superb, thanks to Jorge that made our first visit to this restaurant a memorable experience. Now the food... everything, and I really mean EVERYTHING, was fantastic, fresh, and tasty. We over ordered as we usually do since we can't control ourselves. This led us to try mostly appetizers, sushi rolls, and small plates. Look at the pictures in this review to see everything we ordered, but a couple of standouts were the Amazónico Ceviche, Crispy Rice, and the Ají de Gallina Croquetas. Food was great! I went last weekend and they just opened for lunch. Place was pretty empty! Only one family eating besides us. Our server didn't want to be there, it was pretty obvious. He was inattentive, I had to call the host over several times to ask for water and to bring our food to us, I could see it from our table getting cold by the chefs window. We asked him about some of the drinks and he did not really explain it to us. We ordered one of the drinks and he never asked if it was okay or if we liked it. He had no interest. Amazonia Nikkei is so much more than just a sushi restaurant; it's an Asian fusion culinary adventure! From the moment we arrived, we were treated to an exceptional dining experience. After viewing the lovely outside space for dining and deciding - Nope! Too hot! We went inside to the cool air conditioning. The decor was very chic, and we felt like we had traveled through space to NYC. We sat at the sushi bar and were immediately welcomed with a complimentary cocktail featuring pink grapefruit juice, vodka, and some other delightful ingredients that I am having a hard time remembering that set the tone for the evening. It was delicious. I also ordered a drink called the Ume, which was a revelation. It featured Suntory Toki whisky, plum wine, yuzu hibiscus honey, and gold-flaked ice. The combination was both delicious and unique, making it a memorable start to our meal. It paired well with the amuse-bouche of sweet potato with a yummy citrusy sauce that was delivered to our table. I am not a huge fan of sweet potato, but I could have eaten a whole plate of those little bites as an happily. For appetizers, we had the citrus shrimp, which was so incredible that we immediately ordered another round. The flavors were perfectly balanced and the sauce utterly addictive. We also tried the Furia Roll, which included salmon, avocado, cream cheese, and was deep-fried. The deep frying made the cream cheese wonderfully soft, and the entire roll was a delight to the senses, both in texture and taste. Additionally, we enjoyed the crispy rice with tuna tartare, which was a fantastic dish. I am a big fan of crispy rice! Another highlight was the Tamanegui Roll, featuring avocado, cream cheese, cucumber, mango, passion fruit honey, and crispy quinoa. This unique roll was an amazing combination of flavors and textures. I have never had anything like it, but it kind of tasted like Miami.... My friend and I were thoroughly pleased with our experience and will definitely be returning. Overall, Amazonia Nikkei exceeded our expectations with its innovative dishes and exceptional service. We had two alcoholic beverages which were both delicious (and strong) according to my husband. They provided welcome appetizers as well which were simple but delicious, and a nice start to the dinner. We had the wagyu sliders for an appetizer which were delicious, especially with their secret sauce. The charbroiled picahna was a generous size and cooked perfectly. I also had the shitoriko sake (salmon in lemon sauce) and that was super satisfying and refreshing. Finally, we ordered the chocolate texture as a dessert. It comes with a warm, soft brownie, vanilla ice cream, and chocolate ganache. It was very delicious.
