We were staying at the Holiday Inn the restaurant was located in. We both ordered the prime rib sandwich and upgraded to the au gratin potatoes which we sent back to get heated. How ever they heated them made the cheese chewy and chunky. The restaurant is supposed to close at 10 and the bartender who is quite rude started closing up at 8:30. Removed the popcorn from the machine at that time. Eye-rolled several times. We asked if she wanted us to leave and she replied "no, there are people at a table on the other side" Fast forward to the next night. There was a blizzard but- people gotta eat. I called to see how late they were open.(Google says 10) and whoever answered said "10- no, 9:30, no, 9:00". We went there because it was pretty much our only choice. This time, there was no popcorn. It was 7:00. We asked her to make some popcorn and she wouldn't. She took my boyfriend's drink away before he was done with it. He pointed it out and she was like " oh, sorry" eye roll again. Absolutely horrible bartender. Breakfast buffet was as weak as they come. Mo bread of any sort. I asked for toast. It was the weakest thing toast I have ever had. Ate here because we were staying in the hotel. Had the shrimp scampi. It was light with a wine based broth and 7 nice sized shrimp. The plate came with a slice of garlic toast. I checked in using Yelp and had an offer of a free glass of house wine. I don't like wine so fave it to one of the 5 others in our group. The others in the group of 6 said their food was good. Amber Grill is attached to convention hall in the Holliday Inn. Obviously it can be accessed from the parking lot, but you can also get there by walking through the hotel and convention center. It was pretty busy tonight (Tuesday) and I have to say I was pleasantly surprised with my meal. Not that I though the food would not be good, (it was good). I just expected the service to be limited and that I would have a long wait for my food. After a little bit of a wait at the hostess station, I was seated and got almost immediate service from my waitress. Drink and salad came out quickly and main course followed in a reasonable amount of time. My waitress (Bryanna) was very friendly and attentive (she even put the Bucks Game on for me)! I really liked the teriyaki green beans that came as a side with my meal. It was a nice surprise and it was way better than your basic veggie. I was hungry, so I ordered the full rack of Ribs with Jack Daniel BBQ sauce. The full rack was actually 2 half racks and one of the two was excellent but the other one was a bit dry. (So 50/50 on the Ribs!). Even the drier rack was still not bad. This restaurant has a lot to offer. It's a place that a family could bring their kids, or a group could enjoy the bar, or in my case, a great option when your traveling and you want a good meal and want to watch the game while you eat. read more

We really enjoyed our first visit to Amber Grill in Stevens Point. It is attached to the Holiday Inn Convention Center, so if you are staying there, you don't have to leave the building during bad weather. The staff, all we encountered, were very friendly and the restaurant was decorated for Christmas and traditional Christmas music was playing, We enjoyed burgers and sliced prime rib sandwiches, each with steak fries. Horrible! All of it! I understand busy on a Sunday morning- but we waited 45 minutes for cold / uncooked/ & burned food- amazing how they accomplish all 3 on 1 plate! Ice cold pancakes, rock hard potato's , and over easy eggs crispy hard. And I learned, after "discussion" they can only give you 1/4C water for your tea- because that is how it's supposed to be brewed. Sad to say the Amber Grill is decaying. The pork porterhouse was wager thin and dry as a bone. The "specialty" green beans were very overdone to the point of being wrinkled and floppy. The menu is limited, no fish (other than catfish) except on Friday. Service was poor. Waiter never cleared appetizer plates or salad plates. No bread or crackers either. Went for fish fry last night at Amber Grill in Stevens Point on Friday, June 4, 2021. Nice to see they were busy as Covid has been tough. All staff were masked up. Thank you. No reservations, so 40 min. wait. No problem because they have a great bar with sports on the TVs. Numerous good beers on tap; my favorites are Point Amber and Blue Moon. The bartender (just one this time) was very busy, but very efficient and really nice; no long waits for drinks. She made awesome old fashions too. We had fried perch and cod, both very good. The au gratin potatoes are the best and my daughter loved the potato pancakes too. The cole slaw was just how I like it; crisp, creamy, and sweet! I almost forgot, those green beans are so good! Our waitress was wonderful and checked on us numerous times, including bringing drinks. The table busser asked us if we needed anything too, and the even the manager checked on us and we had nothing but positive comments. I can't think how our experience could have been any better. What really makes the experience, other than the good food and drinks, of course, is the great staff. We thanked them, tipped them well, and hope that they will be there next time we come there. I was staying at the holiday inn..... I visited the Amber bar only because it was convent. I was pleasantly surprised. The ratings are defiantly lower than they should be. My meal was a top 10. I had the New York strip with garlic mash. The steak was marbled nicely and cooked to perfection. The service was top notch. Migual was on top of things making drinks and taking food orders. Very knowledgable on the beer choices. I recommend the point Seasonal Bock. I had a great meal and great service. Give this place a try. I definitely recommend this place for brunch or breakfast. The prices are reasonable and the service is better. Quality is good and service attentive. Our Friday night dinner was a mixed bag. My non-Philly style cheese steak was very small, old re-heated Beef was used and the cheese was like 2 tbsp. I asked for some more cheese sauce and was charged $1. I did love the sweet potato fries. Very very good. Friend like the fish fry, although $12.95 for two small pieces of cod was overpriced. Hubs had a burger and he loved it. It's Valentine's Day, so naturally you make a reservation for a place to eat. Well we made a reservation for 2 at 7 o'clock. We got there right on time, not a minute past, and the girl told us a 25-30 minute wait. I just find it super unprofessional to have people make reservations and then make them wait. read more

This was probably my top 5 worst meals ever!! The Ribeye was flavorless and not cooked correctly. The green beans still had the vine attached to it, apparently extra nutrition. Friendly service, local Stevens Point Brewery beers on tap, otherwise not a great beer selection. Good food and lots of it for little cost. More artichoke than spinach in the spinach artichoke dip, but tasty. A little too much breading on the coconut shrimp. The rack of BBQ ribs is massive and I was only able to tackle two and a half of the smaller ribs on the rack. Delicious smashed potatoes and the green beans in teriyaki sauce were interesting and very tasty. Good Caribbean martini and delicious chocolate martini. read more

Not a very big fan of this place. Servers really not interest in me at all as I sat down at the bar. Ordered potato soup, which was luke warm at best. Also ordered French dip with cole slaw. Again arrived semi- cold, which was a bummer since I ordered with extra cheese. The cole slaw was drowning on dressing, so much you could not even eat it. found a big piece of bone or something hard in the meat, that killed the meal at this point. Server didn't even ask me how it was, even though I left half of it on my plate. No one ever came over to ask how things where with the meal. Basically, dropped off the plate and showed up to take it away. That was the extent if contact. Three people behind the bar and it was like pulling teeth to get service. Food and service needs a lot of improvement, this was the first time here and will be my last. I would not recommend to anyone. read more

Way back in 2014 I wrote how I desperately wanted this place to be good but how it suffered from being inconsistent. I go there regularly, and mostly it's better but they struggle to be truly reliable. Dined there last night - in the bar area which has a great atmosphere. Despite it being only a moderate sized crowd and apparently adequate staffing, we struggled to get served. After waiting seven minutes without attention I went up to the bar - where there was one Trainee occupied with her mentor leaving the other server to chat with other staff at the hotel end - and mentioned our delay and asked could we be attended to. At this point I would have hoped the bar server would have leapt into action and made this right herself, instead she offered to get us a server so I went back to our table and waited a further five minutes until another staff member (who had actually acknowledged us when we first walked past him on our way in) came and looked after us. Just to complicate things we wanted mixed drinks so it was another six or seven minutes until our drinks finally made it - so all up we'd been there for nearly 20 minutes before having our first beverage. To me it's little things like this that sink this place. The menu is good, the environment is wonderful, the patio is great and the location is easy to find, but all too often it appears that the staff don't care. It seems to be a great place to work - the bar staff all chat and joke with each other - but they don't always pay attention to the customers. They need to! read more

Stayed at the hotel this place was in and as I pulled into the parking I heard a band on their patio. They sounded pretty good, so thought I would give them a try. Sat at the bar, quick service right as I sat down, but went significantly downhill after that. Got my first beer quick, but they took forever to take my food order (2 bartenders... one guy, one girl and maybe 7 people at the bar). The female took my beer order and disappeared. The guy finally came over to check on me and seemed upset about having to walk the 10 extra steps. I had the chicken parm, which was good and another beer. Bottom line: 4 Stars for the food 2 Stars for the service Average of 3 given... the tenders just didn't seem to want to be there. Worth another try, maybe I just hit on a bad night. We went as a party of 5 to check the restaurant out. We were first disappointed by the cold hard bread they served with our crab dip (new year special menu) but then we were truly mortified when a member of our party found a sharp shard of what we thought was glass in the pizza. The manager came back to tell us that it was plastic. She was apologetic but her actions were not sufficient to bring back our lost appetite. I would not recommend going to this place for any reason. The manager did come back a second time and removed both pizzas from the bill, but we still had 2 entrees that were relatively untouched after we found the foreign object in the pizza which we paid full price for. read more

If you can overlook the fact Amber Grill is located in a hotel, it has a very nice atmosphere to enjoy a drink or dinner (whether you sit inside or outside). I wasn't very hungry the night we stopped here, so I opted for their Blackened Chicken Greek Salad. I'm pretty picky about my Greek Salads..and this one more than passed the test. Everything was very fresh and tasty, and whatever the creamy dressing was that came with it tasted fantastic. The service wasn't the best , but also wasn't the worst. I think our waitress was either new or very busy that night. Overall though, it was a very pleasant dining experience. I will definitely be stopping here again and look forward to trying some of their entrees! read more

Nice dark wood bar, reasonable pours for a Hotel bar. Ordered the American Burger to take back to my room. The lettuce, tomato, onion, bacon, and cheddar cheese were ample, fries fresh and plentiful. The food was average, however, the hostess and our server were great. The beer selection was very limited and not particularly good. There were no prices on the beer list, but it's central Wisconsin, how bad could it be? It was $9 for each of the 2 beers I had - 2 beers cost more than my entrée. When I complained about this to a manager (I think), she shrugged and replied that prices went up. No apology, no follow up - we just felt we were blown off. If you are not a beer drinker, it is not an issue - if you are there are many better choices than this establishment within a 30 second drive, and the food is better. read more
