A friend suggested this place last weekend for Friday fish so I was excited to try it. The atmosphere is fine, nothing super impressive. They were majorly understaffed due to someone calling in and it showed. I heard the staff apologizing to guests multiple times. We opted for the perch with a side salad. The fish was MAJORLY overcooked and it tasted like the fryer oil needed to be replaced. My husband pointed out the table served after us who also ordered the perch and fortunately for them their fish was not overcooked. I feel like they didn't want to waste the food so they served it to us anyway. The salad was generous and tasty. The server never came back to check on us and I saw the hostess direct her to our table because it was obvious we wanted our check. The location of this gem is a little weird but once you know how to get there, you'll be glad you found it. You'll want to park in the parking lot where their sign is but then you go inside what looks like used to be an old mall and follow the hallway around to the back. I ordered a Wisconsin cheeseburger with fries and Hubby ordered a patty melt with onion rings. When I brought the burger to my mouth, all I could smell was the flame grilled scent and it was delicious. Once I tasted it, I was in heaven. The burger was juicy and cooked exactly how I ordered it (medium well). The top bun was a little thick but it was buttery and toasted. There were two leaves of lettuce, two fresh tomato slices and a large slice of purple onion. The fries were frozen but the type that have a slight batter on the exterior to give it the perfect texture. Hubby ordered his patty melt medium rare and as you can tell by the photos, they know how to do that. It was on marble rye bread that was toasted perfectly. It had chips with it but he also ordered onion rings. The onion rings were thick and had a crispy beer batter. Service was quick and attentive. This is such a great family-owned restaurant! It was busy on a Sunday morning when we arrived, but were seated almost right away. Plenty of seating and it never felt too loud. The staff is very friendly and checked on us regularly. The portions are hearty and the food is delicious. You have to get the giant cinnamon roll! A tasty appetizer. It's a little weird to find. The sign you see from the highway is actually over a fitness center. But if you go into the 'mall' and walk all the way through, you bump into the restaurant. It's worth the minor adventure. The food was great and there was plenty of it. Served on hot plates. We had breakfast, although lunch was also offered. Our waitress, didn't get her name, was polite and good...but overworked. That makes it difficult to properly evaluate. She did have the best smile of all the other waitresses. We have friends in Waupaca that we visit frequently, and we never miss a breakfast at The Woods when we come into town! Get the cinnamon roll to start, but be warned you will need 4 people minimum to finish it. Scramblers are literally the best, and plan to split one with your best friend / significant other, you'll still have leftovers, trust me. Don't forget the side pancake, literally the highlight of my life. Do they use a pizza peel to flip it on the griddle? The world may never know, but it's perfectly browned and fluffy EVERY SINGLE TIME!!! The restaurant is casual, and so is the atmosphere. The good and plentiful food prepared and served by friendly people makes me feel like I'm eating at home instead of a restaurant. If you have the opportunity to partake of one of The Woods' special occasion buffets, GO! I was in town for the Thanksgiving buffet last year. There was so much good food. Everyone was sitting at their tables, talking, laughing, and watching the football. It took me back to Thanksgiving at my grandparents' house when the whole family would gather for a good time and good food. Pretty good over all I'd say. Portions were humongous, to-go boxes for everyone. We waited approximately 45 min for breakfast meals, at 11:30. Lunch specials were coming out to people that showed up 15 min after us, guess that's expected. Groups of 10-15 were coming in for the chicken special. I ordered the Irish scrambler(corned beef and Swiss cheese) which was huge, and surprisingly good corned beef. Tucked away in a weird strip type mall with very little signage. The name of the mall is the Waupaca Woods Mall so I figured it was located somewhere within its doors. I guess that the name of the mall and the name if the restaurant being almost the same should have been a give away!! I read some reviews on this place before I went in and it was almost exactly what I expected. Lots if tables filled with the lunch crowd and a counter for those who want to watch the news or chat. Very much a true diner. On the walls where awards for "Best of Waupaca". Awards were for breakfast and family dinning along with others. I did get a bit if a kick out of the awards because Waupaca is pretty damn small.... How many possible entries could there be in each category! With that said, I watched the meals come out of the kitchen and they all looked great. Comfort food at its best or close to it. I ordered off the breakfast menu (which was huge). I had a "scramble" called the Irish. Corned beef, eggs and Swiss cheese over hashbrowns. It was very large and pretty good. But after seeing some of the meals that came past me I wish I would have gotten one of the lunch specials. Other Yelpers commented on slow service. I would agree, but not so bad that it bothered me. I would say the service is not fast, but certainly not poor by any means. About a mile off the highway. Good comfort food at a good price. Waupaca, WI. First thing I noticed when arriving at this location in an empty mall is all these people leaving the restaurant with large styrofoam containers containing the leftovers from their meal. The reason being the large portions they provide for many dishes, especially the egg based ones. The age group here appears to be old codgers such as myself and my mother with whom I dined with. It appears to be a popular spot here in Waupaca. My mom really likes it. The coffee is pretty good. I had a Belgian Waffle with black berries. Pretty typical, the berries were some kind of preserve, such as you might find in a glass jar with their own juice. There is a lot of them though, with enough juice to moisten the waffle. A side of sausage was provided on the side just to make sure you get your meat. Egg scramble was huge, not particularly memorable taste wise. Returning for dinner, I had broiled salmon. It comes out on the platter they broil it on smothered with butter. Some may not like this but I do love my butter. It was delicious. I am amazed at how well they cooked this fish when it was sliced only a quarter inch thick. Seems like it would be easy to over cook it. They must have very sharp knives to be able to slice the filet thin enough to see through. For $18, I think at least a half inch? Got a good sized salad and a baked potato with it however. Also came with cooked carrot pieces that are best described as odd. Ate a few of them, not repulsive, but nothing I wanted to eat. Had a sugary sweet taste and zero texture. There is an interesting dessert called a Black Forrest torte or something like that. Nice chocolate base with layers of mousse and a topping of Door County canned cherries. The sourness of the cherries was a little off but made it atypical and enjoyable. Overall the food is decent and you get a lot for your buck unless you order fish. A friend had the Walleye and instead of a filet he got several small pieces. Other salads such as a chicken salad are very large. The service was excellent and attentive. These are hard working ladies. The menu selection is huge. I will report later on their burgers and steaks. Yes, that means I will be back. read more

First time ever going here. Went midweek, not a busy weekend. While we appreciate time to look over the menu, we really didn't need 20 minutes. I'm also not use to food taking so long to come out from the kitchen. Took about 40+ minutes. Not sure if that's normal? We were please that some of it was still hot. Kraut is plentiful on the menu items we ordered, and we did find a bit of meat too. Cheese was melted, so items were hot at some point. Our appetizer was a deep fried item and I am sure they were hot too at some point. Can't tell you what it was that was ordered as it was cool to the touch and completely deflated. Great service, portions, and menu options! Came in with my husband and 1 year old. We seated ourselves but we're given a high chair right away. The menu is large, but pretty typical for a diner menu. We got a scrambler and omelet. Portions were huge! Our server was excellent and was very accommodating to my daughter not being able to eat things cooked with dairy. Service could of been better waitress had to many tables there was three of us she brings 2 plates for cinnamon roll and says "oh I only grabbed two two plates" we never seen the other plate never got asked how everything was was.
