I cannot rate the food because after waiting 20 minutes the server never even acknowledged my presence. I probably would've stayed if she at least said that she'd be with me soon. I understand that she's only one person, but it only takes a second to say , "Hi, I'll be right with you" or to take a drink order. We went there on a Friday evening. We were seated immediately in a nice booth. Our hostess and waitress were wonderful. We had one order of Linguine Fruit De Mare, the shrimp were fair size and not over cooked, the scallops were very small and had no taste, of the 5 clams two of them were not opened. I did not see any vegetables in it other then a sprig of green onion on top. The sauce was not spicy at all, very bland. The other order was a stuffed chicken breast, the chicken was good but the vegetables were tough, apparently oven roasted but too over warmed and hard to chew. Salads were just a bland head lettuce with tomato and some croutons. Not too impressed at all however after we notified our waitress she informed the manager and she visited us and apologized and said she was going to talk to the chef. Overall disappointing- after being seated we were told the kitchen was backed up so we wouldn't be allowed to place an order for a while. We waited and ordered fish fry- the cod and the pan fried perch. The perch must have died in the window- not very good and shoestring fries were like McDonald's that sat around for an hour. The cheese curds were cold and not very good- culvers were better. The Wisconsin potato soup was bland. The cod was crispy but nothing special. Service was fast food was great. The buffet at breakfast was so so. We were late so not much left and it was past it's prime. Now the omelets nobody I mean nobody has anything on these. I ordered the ahi tuna and requested it to be cooked rare; it came out way overcooked. The bartender didn't bother checking on me until almost 30 minutes later. It's located in a Holiday Inn. The atmosphere is great. There is outside dining as well. However, the food is average. For what it costs - there should be more of it in my opinion. The service is not the greatest. It took a long time to get a menu, glass of water, appetizer and check. The place was not even busy, so I'm not sure what the problem was. read more

We stopped here on our way back from Ashland for lunch. We picked it primarily because it wasn't a chain restaurant and there were limited options right of the highway in Stevens Point. It is located in a hotel, and definitely has the feel of a hotel bar/restaurant but it was comfortable and nice. We sat at the bar and the bartender was very friendly. I had a chicken sandwich with bacon and onion strings. It was good, not dry, but nothing very memorable either. My companion had a burger which he said was good as well. The menu had a large variety of items and would be a good place to go with a group. If we were in the area again, I wouldn't hesitate to stop...especially since everything nearby is either fast food or a large national chain. read more

this place is attached to the Holiday Inn so this is where you get breakfast. the restaurant tries to hard to be sophisticated. there are large booths and chandeliers and european art (of all different ages) on the walls. they play random music as well. we only went here for the breakfast that was included in our room rate. the service was random and i still can't figure out why every table did not have sugar and cream on it during a breakfast service... still, our server Ryan was very helpful and friendly. and that cinnamon french toast was amazing!!!!! i wanted to take some home with me but it is made and frozen so that would not work well for a return to San Francisco... read more

The ambiance is beautiful and the service is great. However, the food is just, kinda, meh. The green beans that came with my steak were swimming in a teriyaki sauce that took away from the vegetable and put too much sweetness on the plate. This is one of my favorite dinner locations in Stevens Point! The summer outdoor seating is the way to go. The service we received was friendly and caring. Our waitress took great care of us. We started off with a few appetizers; the quesadilla and crab cakes. Both were delicious, but I would recommend asking for no French fries in the quesadilla because they make it a little soggy. I had a cubano sandwich as my main course, which might I add was a HUGE sandwich. If your craving this tasty sandwich I would recommend sharing! My girlfriend and I started coming here a few years ago for "Date Night" and quite frankly, never left. The staff is quite friendly and greet us warmly. the ambiance is warm and inviting, and the bar is fully stocked. There are many things that we love on the menu, and there is enough variety so that nobody is bored.... there is something for everyone. The sweet potato fries and crab cakes are to DIE for! We've also been quite impressed with how accommodating the kitchen is if there is something that we are hungry for that is not on the menu. I've been to Amber Grill several times and and different times of the day. I have never had a bad meal there, and my 3 favorites have to be "Shrimp 3 Ways" as part of the Friday Night Fish Fry Special, the French Dip, and the salad and sandwich lunch special that has been running with the turkey sand which and the strawberry and brie salad. The staff is wonderful with a willing and able to help attitude. I love that the manager takes the time to ask how your meal was, or specific items, instead of the generic, "How was everything?" Recently I was told at work that Amber Grill was expensive and my co-worker and I decided to go to another sit down restaurant must say, I paid the same and the food quality wasn't as good! I enjoyed the decor. Very low key and cozy. Staff was pleasant and helpful. Daughter liked the Strawberry and brie salad and she's not a real cheese nut. The steaks were done to perfection and the veggies were NOT over-cooked. The shrimp was divine and not rubbery and chewy. There must have been some changes to menu...based on when I was there in the spring and there recently, the change was refreshing! Very good! After a long day outside we stopped in the Amber Grill hoping for a nice dinner. We were not disappointed. The ribs we're fall off the bone with a great BBQ sauce - excellent! The ribs also came with a salad, your choice of several different kinds of potatoes, and a vegetable. Our daughter had a signature cheeseburger that had onion rings, bacon, cheese and BBQ sauce, which she said was delicious. The chicken noodle soup was homemade which was also very good. Overall wonderful experience. We will come back again next time we are in town. read more

I think the Amber Grill is affiliated with the Holiday Inn. My family ate outside on the patio for dinner and it was nice. There are just views of the parking lots and the hotel. Our server was very good and friendly and she honored my check-in coupon from my Yelp app for one free draft beer with the purchase of an entrée. So that saved me maybe about $5. They appeared to have a fairly good selection of draft and bottled beers. I had the graham crusted walleye with almonds and it was tasty. The green beans were prepared nicely as someone else has mentioned in their review. My daughter had a BLT sandwich and I tried some of it and it was good. The portions were not extremely large, but I didn't leave hungry. It is a nice place and a little pricier and more upscale than other nearby restaurants, but it is still very reasonable. read more

I've been to Amber Grille more then two dozen times as it is close and convenient for business meetings. The food is usually delicious. I've had something from each part of the menu and it is really good. Love the spinach salad with bacon dressing. As of recent I've decided to halt the visits to Amber Grille for the reason that the service is 90 % of the time awful. One time I sat in the restaurant section and my server was very nice. Sitting at the bar is a whole different ball game. The bartenders are inattentive, often overlooking empty glasses and menus waiting to be ordered from. This is because they are so engaged in themselves or hitting on co-workers. I know this because you can hear the vulgarity coming out of their mouths. Not quiet about it by any means. To top it off I witnessed the hostess carrying silverware while picking the inside of her ear the other day. The atmosphere is really nice and so is the food but I really can't fathom spending anymore time and money to have service with no manners. read more

We stop there on Fridays to have the fish. For $11 you get 2 kinds of tasty fish, green beans (delicious) and choice of potato....go with the potato pancakes. The real value is the kids pizza which I seriously doubt that an adult could entirely eat. It also comes with at side item (like fruit or the green beans) and a drink. We end up sharing the pizza with our kids and taking home 1/2 the fish fry for lunch the next day. They also enjoy grabbing a basket of popcorn out of the bar prior to our food coming. We weren't impressed with the Amber Grill - we took relatives who were visiting from out-of-town & will never do that again. My husband ordered the Prime Rib special of the day, we both ordered garlic mashed potatoes - after about 15 minutes the waitress came back & informed us that they were out of both the Prime Rib and the mashed potatoes. It was only 7pm on a Saturday evening - I would've understood if it was 9pm, but 7pm is not late especially for a restaurant attached to a large hotel. Our guests asked for a bread basket, which the waitress said she'd bring, but we never received. Our appetizers came out within a reasonable time frame, but the chicken wings were barely warm - certainly not hot. Our main courses took almost an hour to get to us from the time we ordered, and then my husband's plate had the wrong sides. It was a frustrating, disappointing experience to say the least.
