Years ago I bought a pre-lit artificial Christmas tree from a local garden store. Each year I had to replace more than a dozen lights that burned out. Several years later I was informed that the replacement lights were no longer available which left me with the decision of having my tree restrung with new lights or buy a whole new tree. I was not happy with the attitude and service from where I bought the tree so I went to Ambrose. The restrung my tree with many more lights then it originally came with and it looks amazing. Best of all, after three years I have had to replace only two lights-that's two lights total after three years compared to replacing dozen(s) of lights each year from the garden center. This place is so beautiful and has such a variety of Christmas decorations. There are a ton of little rooms on the first floor, each with its own theme. If you want a Christmas gift or even something for your own house, this is place is a must! Plus, their prices are reasonable for all the specialty stuff they sell. My favorites are the under the sea themed tree and Santa's workshop (themed room with a tree). There's even a bridal shower themed room:) read more

This review is disheartening for me. It's been a tradition every year to visit this store with my grandchildren. Usually before Christmas, this year we had to do it after. Walked in there today and as soon as we hit the door the gentleman at the desk gave me a look of disgust and said they all have to stay right by you! I was taken aback and had it been any other time I would have chewed him out and left. I wasn't about to let him ruin our tradition. I said we have been coming here every year since they were toddlers, they know how to behave in here. I wanted to say so much more but I mostly wanted the kids to know they are good and not to let anyone make them feel less than. What a flipping jerk! read more

In town on business drove past Santa and turned around. Beautiful store different rooms with themes. Lots of decor that is different from your department store experience. Prices are not too bad for unique pieces of art for your tree and house. Llenty of parking out front check them out. read more

Very pretty store- we've been so excited to bring our toddler to pick out a special ornament. Clearly the owner does not like children. He gave us the meanest look upon arrival with our son. We were being SO incredibly careful with him. Not allowing him to touch anything - just look. The owner came up to us and reminded us "how fragile everything is" as if we didn't already know this. We were clearly not welcome here with a child and he made us feel so uncomfortable and sad that we left without buying anything. So much for the magic of Christmas! We will take our money elsewhere with our sweet son. Also, overpriced for what it is. read more

My family and I went to Ambrose for the first time a couple of weeks ago. Although the store is gorgeous, our experience was the opposite. I saw they had Kurt Adler nutcrackers (which I collect) and started to pick them up to see the detail in the nutcrackers to see which one I wanted to buy. I have many Kurt Adler nutcrackers. There was a boy that worked there who came rushing over and about snatched the nutcracker out of my hand. He asked about 10 times if I wanted to buy it. I told him I was still deciding. He lingered and watched my sister and me, like we were going to break it. It's only a $100 item, not $1000! Chill! Then, while I was asking my husband which one we should buy, an older guy came over, acting all crazy about me and holding the nutcrackers. I finally asked him if I wasn't supposed to touch them since there wasn't a sign. He replied that it was fine. Then he asked me five times if I wanted to buy it like the previous boy had. The whole encounter made me so uncomfortable. I ended up putting them back along with the rest of my items. I wasn't going to purchase anything from them, and I'll never go back. I shop at high-end stores like Chanel, Louis Vuitton, and Tiffany and have never been treated like this before. I went to Cornerstone in Lake Geneva the next weekend and bought two Kurt Adler nutcrackers from them, and they weren't lingering over my shoulder while I was holding them. read more

PARENTS BEWARE!!! We have been coming to this store every Christmas season for the last 5 years. We've have spent a great deal of money on their OVERPRICED ornaments each year because we love to support local business until this year when we were followed by (who I am assuming is the store owner). He then proceeded to tell me to not let my CALM and WELL BEHAVED daughter touch anything cause everything is breakable and he just stood there and watched to see if I would say something to my daughter (who was barely touching anything anyways, because I dont want her to break anything!! We respect other peoples property). I could understand the "stalking" and even the correction if my daughter was running in circles, knocking over ornaments, and not listening to me but THAT WAS NOT THE CASE. Perhaps this store should have a sign saying children NOT welcome. But we're happy to take our business elsewhere where there isnt a grinch that appears around every corner. Great place and family run business. To all the haters with complaints about their perfectly behaved children...go pound sand. Wal mart is open. I have 2 young children and have them clear direction that if they break anything we have to buy it. Simple, just have some accountability for your offspring. Buyer Beware! All sales are non-refundable period. After some complaining about not returning a christmas tree topper that I bought 3 days prior with cash and tried to return on Dec. 10 they offered me a store credit. The staff and owner where sooo pushy about their no returns policy (that was not displayed anywhere) I didn't even want the store credit I just left the topper there and walked out. The best christmas store in Rockford!! You walk in and are transported into a christmas fantasy. My jaw dropped when I walked in for the first time!!! There are tons of tress all decorated with different colors and styles. They have the traditional red and green christmas tree or the funky multicolored, under the sea tree. One year they even had an upside down tree!! There is a tree to fit every personality and if you like an ornament you can pick it up from the baskets underneath the tree or even take it off the tree itself!! They have different rooms with all sorts of other decor like wreaths, wall hangings, garland, nutcrackers all following a theme like the crystal room, wedding room, santa's workshop, and even the western room and mardis gras room. The customer service is amazing as well, you can tell them an idea of what your looking for and they will help however they can, whether it is picking out ornaments, creating a custom bow, or even suggesting a complimentary color or theme and they will work with you as long as its needed. They even have a service where they will come to your house and decorate your tree with the things bought at the store! This place is truly amazing!! read more

Paid a premium for a pre-lit tree three years ago because they supposedly have a warranty for their trees for life!! Yea right!! Its not an old tree and I stored it put together and covered with plastic as they had asked but they are telling me that it's shot and that in order for them to fix it up it's going to cost me $275!! This is not acceptable!! I tried to support a local business but I don't think I'll do that again. I guess I'll just have to cut the lights off myself and string on some new lights so the premium I spent on the tree was for absolutely NOTHING which is what I received from Ambrose!! Did I mention that the only reason I bought from them was for the warranty!! Never again!! read more

I love this store. I bought my tree here a few years back. The quality is like nothing else! I brought my 5 year old daughter in for the first time this year. Keep in mind, this is a high end christmas store with A LOT of glass ornaments. The staff was amazing. I really want to take the time to compliment the young blonde girl who was behind the counter. She took the time to ensure my daughter found her perfect ornament. She did ask that I keep my daughter by my side, when she tried to run off, because if something breaks my daughter could hurt herself on the broken glass which was reasonable. When we left my daughter told me that she "couldn't wait to come back next year so the pretty lady could help her find her next ornament." Seriously a must see for everyone and anyone. read more
