This Starplex is a $1 theater unlike most in the chain. However, the management & staff have been working very hard to upgrade the facility. It will remain a low-cost theater but it is much cleaner than it has been in the past. It was nice to take my son today & have a nice interaction with the employees. Here, you can see top notch movies for $1! Can't argue with that deal, can you? And on Tuesdays, only 75 cents a ticket. If you take me to see a good movie on the cheap, I'll be a happy camper! I've only been here three times. I remember the first time I came here, years ago, expecting a good movie, but a bad experience. It wasn't too bad, but that was a long time ago. When I came here today, it was okay. My suggestion, try not to touch anything in that lobby. I didn't even want to step on the carpet, it was that bad. Everything is dirty, sticky, or wet. And the bathrooms! They were extremely disgusting! Now for the good part, food! The tickets are a bargain, but the food is just like any other theater- overpriced. Smallest popcorn was $5. They don't have a good soda selection only about 6 options, but they had a soda I liked, so I was fine. Hot dogs are only a $1. As for the movies, loved them. The movie theater was fairly clean, but small. It wasn't crowded, so there were seats left. All of the people in my group were happy too, so no complaints about that! I think I would come here again. Just to see a new movie and get out of the heat of Bakersfield for around $2. Came here on a Friday afternoon to watch Blockers. Surprised to find I was the only one there and had the whole theater to myself. I was also surprised to find the high price tag for a late afternoon movie - $10.99. While there were recliners, they do not fully recline. In addition, the seats and cup holders were sticky. The theater is not soundproof because I could hear others talking outside the theater. If the theater is charging premium prices, it should be better maintained. read more

5 dollar Tuesday is the only reason I come here for date night but other than that I would pass because they can be expensive otherwise. My husband and I go here almost every Tuesday and we love it. The staff is always so kind and helpful. They have $5 Tuesdays if you are an awards member and it's free to enroll. So this is just disappointing because I have an AMC premiere account and just spent over $60 on tickets alone for me and my family. We watched the incredibles 2 at 9:45 in theatre 5. The screen was small and also the picture was not bright at all. The incredibles looked orange and when we went to complain about the picture .. they said they knew and were "trying" to fix it. Even before the movie started they were aware and didn't fix it. When I went out there to say something I was told by the ticket guy that they have been trying to fix it but could not fix it without ruining the movie. They said they would give us tickets at the end to suffice for the mishap and the poor quality of the movie picture. When we left the theatre, there was not one employee out there at 12:10am ... very disrespectful.. we will take our money elsewhere. read more

It seems easy to get tickets here. We enjoy the big cuddle seats and they have a good selection of snacks including vegan and healthy snacks. It's our 2nd time here in two weeks and we enjoy the $5 Tuesday deal. They also serve cocktails and beer here if that's your thing. read more

So since I moved, I've been closer to this theater and today was my first time here since it transformed from a dollar theater to the AMC. It's the smallest theater in Bakersfield, but it is very nice! The seats recline and are very comfortable! The bathrooms are clean and decorated nicely. I have the AMC Stubs membership and am an avid movie and popcorn enjoyer. I like to go to the movies regularly but the customer service at this theatre is terrible. I don't understand why people are getting paid to sit and chat with other crew members when there are people wanting to get tickets. Also, crew members at the food counter should proactively try and sell their products but they are way too lackadaisical. read more

I wish I would have read the reviews first, but I didn't. I hadn't been here before. I heard it was remodeled and had reserved seating. ... and I was looking for reserved seating, and big comfy seats. The lobby is pretty small and it did get crowded. However it was clean, restrooms too, and the employees were very courteous & friendly. My complaint is the noise. As mentioned in another review- the theater is right off the lobby, it doesn't have double doors, and it's not designed to keep noise/bright lights out of theater. every time the doors are opened the noise & light flood inside. We could even hear the neighboring movie at times. It was very distracting. The reserved seating wasn't worth the distractions. I'll stick with the other theaters. read more

I like AMC with the ability of reserving seats in advance, and we can do this by going online and downloading FANDANGO onto your cellphone this helps sooo much to not deal with waiting in lines and knowing where to sit comfy :). Enjoy the movies! read more

Super angry with this place. My fiancé and I bought tickets online for middle seats to see Black Panther, so we wanted to make sure they were some of the best seats in the theater (in our opinion). E11 & E12. We bought them days in advance too. We arrived tonight, only to find out that the our theater had shut down so they switched us to a different theater number and put us in B6 and B7, which is the second row!! We got our money back and went to another theater. Don't waste your time trying to reserve seats for a place that will just randomly place you in crappy seats if your theater stops working. Defeated the whole purpose of paying for reserved seating. They could have at least put us in the same row! Ruined our experience. read more

Wow. Came here for a date night and I guess they don't allow babies after 6-even quiet ones, woulda been nice to know this before I bought the tickets in advance and paid the online fees! This place blows. I got stuck with the online convenience fee as well, which I guess is always non-refundable-even though it's the same company; I even called their customer service and the people on the phone were just as unhelpful as the people in the theater. read more

We received a Fandango card for Christmas. They have their theatre on Fandango website. But AMC don't take my card. The cashier was very rude about it. So I talk to manager she basically told me they sell on Fandango but only take AMC gift card which is kinda dumb. I like it better when it was a dollar theatre. read more

This is just what this city needs. A place to go for a few hours, enjoy a movie with friends and family and not have to spend an arm and a leg to do it. Starplex Cinemas has a good variety of movies. From cartoons and fantasy for little ones to comedy, horror and drama for others, we tend to go every weekend to catch up on all the movies we couldn't afford to go to the month before. Their popcorn is good, the hot dogs are....well.. hot dogs. But the dogs are hot and fresh and ready for a dollar. A couple of the theaters are tiny and show the older and sometimes less popular movies and they have a few bigger theaters that screen some of the blockbusters and hits. Get there early! Sometimes the line is a long one and the theaters do fill up and occasionally a movie will sell out. The seats are comfortable, the crew keeps it fairly clean. I recommend Starplex Cinemas for a pleasant, affordable night out. read more

First time here. I'm supper impressed! I can honestly say I love it here even more then the big maya theater in town. It's all new and by new I mean everything greatness can give a theater these days. It's small so it feels more local less crowded. You can pay for your tickets yourself if paying with a card no waiting in long lines fast and effective and you get a quick description on the movie on the machine. NICE! Restroom the whole place really is clean. The seats are all spaced well apart giving you that comfy leg space you love to have. All seats recline and you can put your feet up watching the movie comfortable. I'm kind obsessed now. Thanks for the upgrade AMC. read more

Update: We bought tickets for Star Wars at 9 on a Monday morning assuming it would be clean and not too busy. The bathrooms are far from clean. The employee who apparently is supposed to unlock the door hadn't realized there was a line at their opening time and specifically said I hadn't looked at the clock. Well obviously she wasn't doing much else either. And they just lost power. We decided to try out this theatre because Maya is far from our house and we heard it had been remodeled. We were expecting recliners like we've had in LA at other AMC dine in theatres and were left wanting. Employees milling around but only one girl behind concession stand hustling. The food was just ok. Again the dine in theatres do a much better job. Finally they couldn't bother to bring down the house lights until after the movie started and didn't bring them on after the movie was over. We ended up using our phones to get out safely. The bathrooms need help too. read more

The staff was not welcoming. I had a family of 4 with younger children, they seemed annoyed when I requested various individual popcorns, they kept telling me to buy a big combo instead since it was easier FOR THEM because making 4 individual popcorns is so hard when there's nobody in line behind me! I said "no" several times and they rudely kept telling me to get a combo. They never smiled and one of the front desk workers rolled his eyes AFTER I requested refund to purchase THE SAME tickets again since he chose my seats for me! Who does that? Ask me where I want to sit! Don't complain when you mess up and have to clean up your mess! NOT KID FRIENDLY AT ALL! Needs customer service etiquette! They only get a "1" because of the comfy seats! While the seats are comfortable, we're probably going to stop going to this theater. The movie never starts on time and they overload you with more than a half hour of trailers. We saw Deadpool 2, the start time was 4:15, but the trailers didn't even begin until 4:25, and the movie didn't actually start until 4:55. To add insult to injury, they forgot to turn off the freaking overhead lights and we had to actually get up and ask the ticket seller to please have someone turn the theater lights off. While I know the staff probably doesn't have control over the 30 minutes of trailers, they could at least start them on time and turn the damn lights off. This wasn't the first time this had happened either. It's a bit of a shame too, as the theater is just down the street from us. read more

My daughter and I decided to check out the newly remodeled movie theatre. It was a fantastic experience. The chairs are super plush leather and they recline pretty far back. There is lots of space to walk through and you even get to pick your seats. We will be back. read more

Definitely better than Edwards or Reading. Tickets here are a lot cheaper and food is fairly priced. I also love the reclining chairs and the fact that you reserve your own seat. It's also worth noting that new members can get benefits, such as free snacks or 10 percent off of their tickets. I highly recommend. read more

3 stars because RoboCop security guard kept following us which felt weird. And why does the cool RoboCop security guard carry a firearm acting superior in the theatre? Kind of weird in my opinion. Doesn't seem professional and seem more like he felt like he was a cool guy because he had a gun. Another issue was the odor inside the theatre... Like at least wipe down the seats from sweaty people and spray something to keep it fresh. The lady in front was nice and noticed an employee cleaning windows when she could be spraying air freshner in the stinky theater. I wish more employees worked the concession stand but with 3 people in line and taking a long time we decided not to grab a snack. Oh well, it wouldnt taste good anyway with the body odor smell reeking from the theater. The restroom also needs attendance from employees since it was dirty and didn't have any paper towels in it, except you got to dry with dirty blower to dry hands so I used my shirt. I'd hope this theater would have been better than the other theaters since I do know AMC but it was very disappointing. I hope changes are made for the better and Robocop stops following me. read more

The last time I went to this theater was in the 1990s when we all came from Delano to watch Forest Gump. Just went there recently during the week and took the kids to watch a movie after school. It was great, we had the whole auditorium all to ourselves and the reclining seats were so comfortable. Great staff and it was clean. read more

I went to this theater a couple months ago, to see Smurfs in 3D. When out of no where I started thinking about the events on 9-11. I guess I never really got over it, and like a big silly-billy, I started crying. The theater manager came over to me, seeing I was upset and asked if there was anything he could do. I told him what I was thinking about and how it made me feel. He then put his strong arm around me, and said "that this death takes place in the shadow of new life, the sunrise of a new world". I asked where he learned such sweet words, and he said "from movies". We laughed as he held me. I watched Smurfs in 3D, and the popcorn was fresh!! 5 stars!! read more
