Its lush, with thick foliage, mountains, lakes, and clear area views at many spots. There was so much to do there but we were on a clock. So chose to experience the Cog Railway (With my weak lungs, I wouldn't have been able to the hike anyway) It was misty and foggy when we left NH and was kinda worried but lady luck smiled on us and it turned out to be the perfect sunny but not stingy sunny. It was about a 30 min ride up. With constant commentary on the railway, the height it is going, history, use etcetc everything that can put one to sleep(;).... lol... yes and no... the history part was really interesting for me... as the other parts on mechanics must have interested the others... but he spoke non stop and that's something ! On top was the most amazing scenery. The clouds below u and just green mountains all around. At one point everyone and everything around seize to exist.... that kind of beauty. There is a cafe on top and everyone squeezed in as it got real chilly. Ones who cane prepared with coats, caps , gloves took their coffee and stood out- cause thats where u need to be . I think they gave us about an hour to spend before they come to collect us. U can miss and take the next one down provided it is not already full with the valid ticketed passengers. It was the last train of the day so we didn't have the option of waiting. It should be noted here that u can drive up to the top, almost to the top, but the Railroad experience is unique. The driver had explained that 4 states borders are visible... to me it was all just mountains, clouds, and my effort to try to capture my excitement in a camera so I would never forget it ....

It's a very windy and a little bit scary drive, but once you get to the top it's so worth it! There are beautiful views and lots of photo ops. They also have a few stores, a museum, a post office, and food options. There is also an option to hike up and down, or take the train (one or both ways). Cranmore delivered just that and more. Lots of greens and blues where I could work on my skills, try trails with escalating difficulty, and still kick back when I just want to enjoy myself and not be a ball of nerves. I also enjoyed the length and variety of their many trails I could traverse. Was happy to have more options than just a quick up and down in a straight line over a full day of skiing. Their main lift was quick and skiers were able to load efficiently. Lots to look at on the way up. The day of my last visit there were several ski competitions going on just next to the lift so it was fun to watch people competing and see spectators make the trek up to watch as well. Ski patrol were out and about and lots of staff available to check in with as needed. The lodge itself had everything I needed... free cubbies to store your stuff, bench seating to change into your boots, adequate table space both up and downstairs to grab a bite to eat, indoor and outdoor gas fireplaces to huddle by, a bar and hot foods, and best of all... a bathroom at the same level as where you can ski up to so no having to navigate stairs in clunky footwear. Drop off area for skis, quick in and out to purchase tickets, simple walk over to a very large parking area. I can't wait to return when the opportunity arises!

The mountain coaster was the best part, and we only waited a max of 5 min in line, and ended up riding it 6 times. There was a longer line for the Soaring Eagle zipline and Swing, only because they can only hold a few people at a time. The chair lift had nice views. The trampoline was entertaining, but kinda one note. The inflatable obstacle courses were both scalding hot in the sun and had puddles from rain the night before, so my kids didn't like those. I'd recommend Cranmore Adventure Park for 2-3 hours of fun.

When they say show up 40 minutes early, you should. There were 3 other groups leaving around the same time as us, so lots of people had to be checked, sign paper work, finish getting geared up, sized for helmets, go thru the quick in office introduction to the weather and what we'd be doing on our tour, take the VERY short ride to the departure point, and finally learn how to operate the machines. They give you the full amount of your tour time ON the machines out in the forest, so show up early to make sure you get your money's worth. 100% recommend for beginners and anyone else looking to try snowmobiling in the area without the hassle of having to figure out the trail system themselves. And ask for CHRIS, he was relaxed, helpful, knowledgable AND a willing photographer ;)

I don't give many poor reviews. This is one. I had a reservation at the Bartlett Inn, but was…read moreunable to stay due to the fact that my prepaid room ($227) was occupied when I arrived. The only reason I'm giving the location 1 star is because of all the help provided by the housekeeping manager in regards to helping find someplace to stay BECAUSE MY PREPAID ROOM WAS SOLD TO SOMEONE ELSE although I talked to someone from the hotel earlier in the day to confirm my booking prior to my 3.5 hour drive. My room was in the main inn, there are 5 rooms and parking for only 3 cars unfortunately with the motorhome that took up the majority of the small parking lot. In the days of covid this bed and breakfast has no breakfast. Additionally there is no staff and self check in consists of the room door being left open with the room key in the room (allegedly, unfortunately I was not able to experience this). Upon arrival I walked my things up to the third floor which is where my room was, tried the door and it's locked. Knocked on the door and there was no answer. Called the phone number that I had for the hotel and it went to voice mail. No room, nobody to ask about it. A couple happened to be heading out for dinner so I asked them if there was any phone numbers in their room or similar in the event that anything happened and they needed to contact management. Thank goodness there was a number to call. I was able to get in touch with the head of housekeeping. She was super nice and came to the inn to see what was going on. This is when I learned that that there was someone already in my room. This inn was full so out of luck there. They have a second property, The Will's Inn about 4 miles down the road where they were able to put me. I'll review that place separately. It was shared with me that I would receive a full refund for my room, as well as a gift certificate to be used at a later time. Neither of these things happened. Stay away from this place.

Lonesome Lake is a MUST. Our server at dinner suggested this hike and I am so glad that she did…read more.. always pays to ask a local expert! There is a small parking lot at the base (park next to the Lafayette Campground). My suggestion is to arrive early because it fills up. Plus it's always better to battle an uphill hike early anyways. Most of the hike is shaded, but be warned that it's pretty steep. You'll need to climb uphill for at least two miles before you reach the lake. Luckily the payoff is beautiful and you get to hike downhill the entire way back. #WORTHIT Once at the top you'll immediately have beautiful views of the lake, but make sure that you keep walking for another 10-15 minutes up the narrow trail. That will eventually lead you to a wider boardwalk area where you can lay out some towels, enjoy snacks and drinks and jump right into the lake. I'm glad we packed towels and beers because after the long steep hike I was more than happy to chill out with a drink. I honestly could've stayed all day and been content. Definitely add this hike to your list if you are in the area!

We were visiting Littleton beginning of November and spent our whole Saturday on different trails. We got to Lonesome Lake a little later in the afternoon. The parking lot was nearly full when we got there but the trails really didn't seem that crowded at all. The entire hike up is all uphill, but not too challenging. But once you see the lake at the top?? So incredibly worth the sore legs. It seriously feels unreal or from a photograph when you first see it. It was partly covered in ice but we were so heated up from the uphill trek. This lake must be pretty wonderful in the summer months when you are just drenched from the hike up and can cool off by jumping in the lake. Little tip, be sure to wander a little further once you get to the lake. You'll see a trail with wooden planks. We basically made our own little outcove off of the trail by the water so I am not sure what is alllll the way farther down that trail. We got there on the late side and didn't want to make the hike down in the dark so we only stayed for about an hour, but I honestly could have spent the whole day there. Bring snack, drinks, anything to make a supremely cozy stay at the top. If you are looking for the perfect hike, ya found it.
