I really want to like this theater but there is not denying it's terrible. It is absolutely filthy everywhere. They do not have enough people at the concession stand creating very long lines. The drink machines never have ice and I don't know how they do it but every drink is flat. Last time I will be going to this theater and will look int going to McAllen or Pharr. read more

Nice looking, but the management or lack there of is inexcusable. Only giving 2 stars because it looks great as you walk in - otherwise wouldn't even deserve a 1 star. Went to see the movie if on a Wednesday afternoon place was almost empty as usual only one side of concessions was open. Bought my tickets at the kiosk, stood in line for the one employee behind the snack bar. I was second in line. When it's my turn to go up instead, she started calling for Premier members. I waited over 15 minutes before I left to go into the theater. Theate smelled of either musk or mold, but sat down in some really worn leather chairs. Five minutes after the movie started a kid walks in with a trashcan, banging up and down the stairs to clean the theater. At this point, I will walk back out to the concession stand, which, although it had a great selection of it was ready other than some popcorn that I had seen them popping before I left the first time. Little pricey for the concessions but oh well it's a theater. Go to get drinks and I'm greeted with a complete mess. There's napkins on the floor their straws everywhere. The floor is soaking wet go over to the popcorn station and find the exact same thing but also covered in popcorn salt if you need a container for anything, they just had the plastic bag sitting there for you to dig them out of. When I paid at the concession stand, the guy asked for my ticket - I told him here's mine, but we've been in the theater for more than 20 minutes. After the film, I stopped into the restroom to find more of the same soaking wet floors sinks that didn't work and God knows how long it's been since it's been cleaned. All of this on a Wednesday afternoon in the middle of June and I only saw maybe 20 people there to see a movie there was easily seven or eight staff members that just didn't care. This place is not worth going to pretty then you get inside and deal with employees that don't care, it's obvious management doesn't either. read more

Popped in to see Transformers on the IMAX movie screen. This was the most chaotic theater I've ever been to! First off, the parking lot is on the side of the theater and there's an empty parking lot in front. So that's already strange. When you walk in, there's popcorn and napkins everywhere. Trash bins are overflowing. The bathroom has a foul smell. Very dank. One of the alarms was going off in there too. There are two sides for concessions. We didn't order any food besides popcorn since it would take 30 minutes to cook. The popcorn was cold and stale. The butter machines don't work- believe me I tried them all. The IMAX theater is all the way in the back. It's a large screen. Good audio visuals. Seats are old, leather is cracked, aisles are narrow, and there's a weird smell. I hadn't been to a theater without reclining seats in a while, which is fine, but these definitely need to be repadded. read more

Located conveniently at Canton just off the 281 Expressway, AMC features Nice theaters with comfortable recliners. Pay for specific numbered seats so no need to worry if you and your group can sit together or not. Select seats and pay ahead of time. Prices are average to high. Concessions are expensive but there is a good selection. I prefer to go out to eat first and usually eat better and spend less. Bathrooms were clean and the theater was acceptably clean. We watched the Incredibles but could hear the thundering noises of Jurassic Park in the next theater complete with the seats vibrating. They either need to sound proof better or manage the sound better. Overall a nice facility but improvements could be made. read more

This theatre is one of the farthest theaters in my local area, but it is The only IMAX theatre available. The theatre building name used to be Carmike Cinemas but AMC bought them out. Some heavy remodeling was then done to the benefit of the building and its aesthetic. The new lobby area is an open concept. There are two concession stands on each end. It's unfortunate that if you want to buy a ticket with a human being, you must wait in the same line as if you were to buy snacks. There is a kiosk that you can buy tickets using a computer, but some may not know how to use it. During my visit, I went to see Star Wars: The Last Jedi. 30 minutes into the movie, there was a fire alarm and everyone in the theatre exited out. We were given no further instructions, such as stay away a certain amount of feet, or what to expect until after 25 minutes of waiting. My wife did forget her phone inside of the room we were watching the movie at. Luckily, one of the employees found it and I was able to retrieve it about 1 hour and a half later. I wasn't allowed to continue watching the Star Wars movie anymore because Disney didn't allow us to use the Super passes that we were given because of the situation, but we used them to watch a different movie instead. read more

My wife and I went to this location's IMAX on November 25, 2023. My wife needed to use the restroom and the women's restroom in the lobby had ONE stall working. The entrance to theatres 1-8 was blocked off due to construction with no signage for a detour. As we entered the IMAX theatre, we were immediately met with a musty odor as if there was some kind of water leak for quite a while. To get to the seats, you have to walk through a long hallway and there are no signs where the entrance to the seating area is. We found the entrance and made our way to our seats. The arm rests on the seats are OLD AND WORN! They look horrible and the cup holders were filthy. The cup holder to my wife's right was actually missing the cup holder insert. The movie was enjoyable considering our experience upon arrival, however, we will NOT be returning to this location and we will NOT recommend it until we know there have been renovations made. I enjoy coming specifically to this AMC. The theater is very clean. The seats are leather and have a nice slight recline to them. The theater is nice and chilly. Most of the screens are very large and the sound quality is excellent. I really enjoy their Coca Cola free style machine. You can prepare your drink anyway you like, half sparkling water, half soda, no problem! I enjoy that the movie butter popcorn machine is also freely available. Jalapeños, salt and napkins are ready and easy to grab and go. My favorite is their cheese. I enjoy dipping my popcorn in their AMC cheese. Enjoy! read more

Manager Samantha Coronado is very unprofessional. My movie started at 7:15pm got there at 7 I had ordered my movie online so as soon as I arrived I printed my ticket at the kiosk. I saw that the snack line was full and decided to come back a little later to see if the line had moved any (10 min. later). There were 2 long lines I made the mistake of getting in the wrong line ("premier lane")...both extremely long really no difference in time. She tells me she won't help me I have to get in the back of the correct line. I told her it was an honest mistake both lines are equally long I wasn't trying to scheme on anybody & my movie had started already. She called the POLICE to have me escorted out! Like I had already purchased popcorn and drink voucher I was just redeeming it and she said she wouldn't. I told her let me just get my popcorn and drink that I already paid for and I'll go watch Netflix n chill at home. She said yes and while she was completing the transaction she scanned my coupon/ voucher I said "I want to pay the difference to upgrade it" she says "nevermind I'm not going to serve you." Even the cop had to apologize to me for her behavior. I told her let me get your name to report you to corporate she refused...The officer said I'll give you her name and he did. The place was filthy butter and popcorn all over the floor. Very messy and dangerous for people to walk on that slippery butter on the floor. I really hope this manager gets fired. My wife and I went to our first movie here and we were both sorely disappointed. We will not be returning here. The place is nice and the lobby is clean for the most part. When we sat down, the first thing I noticed was that the staff does not clean and sanitize between shows. There was popcorn on the seat to the left of me and the theater smelled gross. I went to AMC instead of Cinemark Townplace because they were sold out, and I was disappointed. The worst thing about our experience was the huge line for the concession stand. Not only did we miss about 10 minutes of the movie, but the staff was slow and didn't care they had a very long line of people waiting. We ordered two hot dogs and they only had one left, but instead of offering to throw one on and have it taken to us, they just gave us one. So, my husband ordered the pizza and it was definitely not worth the $8 price...it wasn't good period. The theater is nice and we'll maintained but it isn't enough. When it was Carmike, the food was a little better, but I won't be returning. The staff at Cinemark in Pharr is organized and I am able to go in 10 minutes before a movie and be able to get variety of food/snacks that taste good. read more

We've been here a few times and the theater itself is beautiful and remodeled well. I had two issues with the IMAX theater starting on time. I told the manager three times before any action took place. He said 'that's the way the IMAX starts'. So we missed all of the previews and 15 minutes of the movie before he realized that it wasn't working like I said the first time. Not sure what he was thinking, but a start time means everything is ready to go. Anyways, be careful for first showings IMAX. Another friend of mine said he experienced a similar issue with the movie starting much later than expected. Please address the issue as this is the ONLY IMAX within a 300 mile radius. read more

Movie theatres in the Valley, in order of tolerability: 1. Carmike 2. Cinemark Hollywood 3. Cinemark Tinseltown This is not to say Carmike deserves a gold metal--you're really picking between the best of three evils here. All three theaters are infested with bored middle-school miscreants and perpetually packed since there is nothing else to do on a Saturday night (or any other day or time) in the Valley. Carmike has a more extensive food selection, if that interests you. Cotton candy, ice cream and pizza--all overpriced, but available. They run some cool specials on weekdays (check website) and even though it's almost in Edinburg, it's right off of the expressway so it's easily accessible. Ticket prices are slightly more expensive than either Cinemark location, so that dampers the crowds ever so slightly. It's worth the extra $1 to me... Hollywood seems like the most packed of the three, probably since it's most centrally located. The crowds, however, seem a little less, um...ghetto. New releases regularly sell out so buy your tickets and get there EARLY. The Fandango fee of $1.50 is totally worth it since you can skip the eternal line outside in the humidity and head straight to the snack bar. Also, this is probably due to the masses of people this place herds in and out, but the theaters really SMELL. Like a mix of feet, artificial butter and BO. Just a note. Tinseltown has all of the flaws of Hollywood, and then some. Hmmm....is there anything better about Tinseltown? Not the people, not the service, not the location....Oh! The arm rests go up! This is my favorite spot to watch a film, and get a Milkshake. Some of the theatres have DLP projectors, and I have found this place to be the best sounding around. So, as anybody that knows me at all can tell you, I'm a bit of a movie whore. Before my amazing discovery of Austin and the Alamo Drafthouse (you can't go wrong with movies and beer), this was my prime location to catch the latest flick in South Texas. When Carmike first opened (the rest of the theaters in the Valley are Cinemark...until the Alamo opens within the next few months), I was astonished to discover that they serve typical movie fare in addition to coffees and ice cream. Quite a feat! You also get to butter your own popcorn (not a euphemism....although a good one for the future). It's too bad that more people don't appreciate the wonders of this theater. It's never very busy at all anymore. The snacky stuff isn't the main reason this is my movie theater of choice, however. The sound quality in these theaters are far superior to any of the other ones around...perfect for catching those loud summer blockbusters. I believe that they also recently acquired new projectors, making the pictures a lot clearer. Downsides...no preshow slideshow or anything similar, the theaters are relatively cold, employees are hit or miss as far as helpfulness/friendliness (the guy serving us today was amusing, though), and the showtimes are usually incredibly close together, not allowing viewers time to sit through the credits as is sometimes necessary. The largest amount of people purchasing popcorn, soda, candy, etc. Its the longest line I've seen in many theaters across the US. However the slowest with only 2 people working and slow at it as well. If you watch a movie here do not , I repeat do not purchase any snacks or you will be waiting half way through a movie. This is our first visit to the new IMAX theatre here in Edinburg and we loved it! It's a great option to view that film you've been waiting on for so long. The theatre is still under renovations but still open. The concessions area is much roomier than before giving you a more open feel of the theatre. They have self-serve drink stations now which makes it easier to get your drinks and go. If you're looking to try out the new and improved theatre, you have the choice of viewing Standard, IMAX or IMAX 3D. The IMAX screen is a two story screen that makes your movie experience awesome! The new leather seats are full of comfort and provide enough leg room for even a big guy like myself. I never thought a theatre could be as loud as this one but the surround sound here makes the movie 10 times more enjoyable. Overall, I didn't mind the more expensive ticket prices. We payed a discounted price of around $14 for going to the early bird special on Sunday. Will definitely keep enjoying it from now on. read more

This is a last minute resort theatre. I prefer going to the movie bistro- I know it's rather pricey, but you are paying for a clean and quiet place to watch a movie. Carmike is just really old and not well-maintained. The floors are sticky beyond belief and there is a smell of rotting food and popcorn permeating the concession area. Also, a hundred and one children are running around screaming at the top of their lungs playing games. This is a movie theatre, not an arcade! At least have a separate area for all of that. The popcorn is also just subpar (burnt and stale). Only redeeming quality was three movie tickets came to $17 which is unbelievable for movie tickets now a days. Go between 4-5:30 and you get the matinee price which is perfect. However, I don't mind spending a little more money for a nicer atmosphere. It really helps the movie experience. Dirty! That pretty much sums up the entire experience. The moment we walked in we went to the kiosk to get the tickets we had purchased online... the machines were not working. Okay, that's understandable since technology fails at times. Then my family is in line for food and to get the tickets at the concession. The only thing available was popcorn and drinks. Okay, that's understandable due to the "shipping crisis" that is being experienced nation wide. Then we walked in the general area and noticed trash and popcorn all over the floor. The butter counter where the napkin dispensers are located were completely covered in sticky substance which consisted of soda and butter... I'm assuming. Then we finally make it into our theater only to find our seats covered in popcorn and more sticky substance. We went looking for some wipes to clean the area ourselves but after checking 5 buckets of sanitation wipes (provided by AMC) all were empty. We finally were able to get some clean wipes to at least to semi clean the area. Then the previews started but the lights never went out until 9 minutes into the main feature! The tickets are not cheap and for the price you pay you would expect a better experience. I definitely do not recommend the place and will never return to that IMAX again. read more

This theater literally made me sick! Long lines to get food, which are also the lines to purchase tickets! Bad idea!!! Finally ordered the food and it took forever for the food to be prepared, plus another long line to get our self-served drinks. We finally got in another long line to get to our theater to see the movie we paid for. The person checking our tickets, was constantly distracted and people, not standing in line, kept coming up to him to ask him questions! We finally sat in our seats and the room had a putrid smell and it was soooo cold. I could not stand sitting here any longer, so I got up to get out the theater and head to the lobby, where I threw up from this whole vile experience of this theater! Be forewarned! There was a horrible stench walking in to auditorium for IMAX. We thought it would not reach in (since they have the IMAX open). 15-20mns in to the movie we can smell the stench which gave my friend a headache. Spoke to manager Alfredo (which took forever to get a hold of). He said they are aware of it and working on it, however, what made me upset was his lack of empathy. We had to deal with the smell for 1 hr and 40mns and not even an apology was given to my friend and I. Even if he felt there was nothing he can do about it, an apology would've been nice.
