The AMC in edwardsville is very large with a huge parking lot which is a bonus because you don't have to stress at all about parking before your movie. The theatre itself is very dated. It's for sure due for a lobby and concession area "glow up" The newer theatres with Dolby sound and recliner seats are clean and the seats are comfy. My only complaint about the seats is the recliner works oddly. It's sort of all or nothing which I'd prefer to have my legs up and not lie down. I'd skip pretzels, mine were cold and lacked any flavor. For the more outdated theatre the prices are high, almost $20 for a movie here which is more than the prices at the brand new theatre in St. Louis so In my opinion, it's too high. I just moved to Edwardsville two months ago (from St Louis) and was looking forward to checking out the local movie theater since I finally had one extremely close to me (it's like a 5 minute drive!). So, as with most things, I hopped on Yelp and was shocked with the low ratings and reviews. Nonetheless, I still planned to check it out, I still planned on having my very own experience. I've been twice in the last month and was pleasantly surprised. Firstly, there was ample parking both times (I went to evening shows). Once inside, things were clean (although I haven't checked out the restrooms yet), the temperature was comfortable, and the popcorn was good (you can add your own butter and such!). The employees were also pleasant enough - I'll take that. The seating in the auditorium I sat in the first time was more comfortable than the second, but nothing unbearable. The screens and sound were of good quality too. Side Note: Predator: Badlands was AWESOME! I allow grace for places of business to have an off day at times, fully realizing if that "off" day just so happens to be each and every time you've patronized it then that's probably just the norm. But I also recognize that these days especially , it's hard to find and keep decent employees, and that has a trickle down effect. Anyway, this may not be a fancy theater with reclining seats or call-buttons to order from your seat, but this movie theater is a solid option to catch a movie if you're okay with those things. read more

Everywhere you look there are handicap accessible signs yet they certainly are not. I went with a walker not my wheelchair this time. Asked for no step seating for an imax showing of Hail Mary. Was given seats with a step to them. Had my partner not been with me, I would not have been able to sit. Then after the movie, tried to use the restroom but the stall door was too narrow to fit my standard size walker. Thought this theater would be nicer, newer, more updated but was truly disappointed. The cost of the tickets were far too high for an incredibly uncomfortable experience. There was a tornado warning and they were unclear of what to do. Every employee in the theater disappeared and left us alone with zero communication. Eventually, the film did begin after we waited for about 45 minutes with no communication, yet again. The theater is basically like most AMC except this one has that Dolby theater room which is very nice. The staff was very kind and helpful when asked or needed. Although it's a bit far from me I would definitely come back again because somehow movies I want to see come here but not the the AMC's that are in the St. Louis city metropolitan area. read more

Feels like I walked into 2004 instead of 2024..Everything about this AMC rings old and extremely outdated..the seats were horrible..The carpet was nasty looking and the decor was plain hideous. At the service counter we ordered nachos and simply got a bag of chips and a container of cheese..no container/carrier. Being from Alton I acknowledge that Edwardsville has many things better than Alton can offer. This movie theater is the exception. For the same price you can get a reclining seat at NCG in the Alton Mall. Seats at AMC are tight. We went to the AMC to watch the new Gladiator movie because Alton NCG didn't have available seats. The AMC in Edwardsville was a mess. Looked like a fair had just closed. Popcorn all over the floor. Wished Id take a pic. NCG in Alton is far cleaner. Popcorn was terrible. Old theater! Seats are standard seating nothing fancy. Seen a late movie and there were only 10 people in the whole theater. Since it's 1 of the only IMAX theaters in the area. It would be nice to have the reclining, comfortable seats. Popcorn was old and they had no intentions of popping more. The worst was the sound, it was so excessive that my Apple Watch kept giving me alerts. It was so loud that you could barely understand what they were saying most of the time. If I could give less than one star I would. My husband and I went to see the new Top Gun movie and from the moment we walked in the door it was obvious the experience was going to be subpar. The AC wasn't on in the front of the house so it was stuffy and humid with staff running floor fans behind the ticket desks as sweat dripped from their foreheads. At the snack bar almost ALL the items were marked not available so I was grateful we hadn't purchased concessions on the website when ordering tickets. After purchasing a fountain soda from the under-enthused employee we were disappointed to find no ice in three of the four soda machines leaving with what couldn't have been more than 10 cubes from the fourth unless we wanted to scrape ice from the floor surrounding it. Grateful we didn't buy popcorn as we passed the butter station I couldn't help but notice that one could have accumulated enough popcorn from the surface of the station and surrounding floor to fill a mega bucket or two before heading into the theater. The bathrooms were no better with broken doors and toilet paper strung from one end to the next. If you were lucky enough to find a stall with a working door you would have had to scrounge up floor paper for proper hygiene. Hard pass! Once in the theater it was a brief improvement from the hot stuffy front end until half way through the movie when it became obvious the AC was no longer on and patrons were left to finish the move in a sweat lodge. It's sad to see what was once a thriving destination deteriorate into a complete and utter dump. There's no way the owners of this establishment could be local and management clearly doesn't care. AMC as a franchise should shut this theater down or penalize the owners until it's brought back to standard....at the very least they should be embarrassed. As an Edwardsville resident, I know I am. For your hard earned money, you would be better served in a different theater. Go somewhere else, is my advice. read more

Considering it's the only movie theater in town, I can't be too picky. However, it's in dire need of some updating. Every other theater I've been to has the reclining seats so you can lay back and have plenty of space to get up to go to the bathroom without disturbing others. The seats at this theater have no luxury features and the screen is quite smaller than other theaters I've visited (sound system doesn't seem as loud either). If you're fine with the bare necessities and just want to watch a movie, then you won't be disappointed here. read more

I went to see the new Top Gun movie tonight and was reminded why I stopped going here before the whole Covid thing started. The theater was miserably hot and was full of people, which only added to the stuffiness. I think they must still have their thermostat set on vacation mode, due to small numbers attending movie theaters up until recent days. When you ask for a manager, you get a kid who couldn't care less (Both from tonight's experience and from other times I've been dissatisfied and asked for management). Instead of an apology, you get excuses. Having owned a small business before, I see the complete lack of understanding from the management of this place. A simple gesture would've gone a long way even though I wouldn't have excepted it (a ticket voucher, a coupon, a free popcorn, or soda or even an ice water). Instead you get the feeling that you made them get off of Snapchat or Instagram and that you're really not that important here. It's a shame that it's the closest Theater to me, I guess I'll just have to plan for a drive from now on when I wanna see a movie at a theater, because I'm completely done with this place. read more

My go to theater, it is the one closest to me. It's a great theater and we always enjoy going. The prices for treats, popcorn and drinks are outrageous, but I guess that's how it is with any theater. The bathrooms are usually clean. Never had a bad experience here. We always go super early, because we like the very back row. The establishment needs a thorough cleaning. This afternoon, the floors were extremely sticky near the concession stand and soda fountain, as well as inside the theater. The bathroom wasn't very clean and the theater seats were severely stained and dirty. I'm sure it's difficult to keep clean due to the varying times of movies showing; however, something really should be done. As I was leaving, there were 4 or 5 employees talking to someone in a red shirt that was sitting behind a desk. Entering this theater was rather confusing as there are 3 -4 lines that represents kiosks ticket purchases, AMC memberships, pre-tickets purchases and needing to purchase from a staff person. All of these lines entries are near each other and looked like a maze. They really need to update this location as the chairs look outdated and literally falling apart! I didn't have any food or drinks here so I can't review that aspect. read more

My first trip to the Edwardsville IMAX was this past weekend. I met a relative there to see a certain new film. I'd not been to an IMAX before other than the Science Center's Omnimax. It made for a nice viewing. The seats could have been a little bigger. It's a pretty standard AMC theatre. I don't know if I can describe it any better than that. Oh, the restrooms were rather classy, with a green marbled look. I doubt I'll return soon, as it's kind of in the middle of nowhere, but if you live out that way, it seems like a good option. read more

It's never fully staffed so lines are long to both buy tickets and have pre-paid tickets scanned. The self-serve ticket machines aren't intuitive and are hard to use. I don't even bother with those. On two occasions, they've forgotten to even start the movie! That was for Fathom screenings, so maybe they don't care because there's usually only a few people seeing those films. However, those films cost a lot more than a regular first-run film. One time, the film started 20 minutes late and everyone was staring at a blank screen until someone got up to find a staff member. With the prices they charge, they can afford to hire a few more staff members. And please give them watches so they know when to start the film. read more

I haven't been to this theatre since the first "Hangover" and after their poor handling of an advanced screening of the new "Tomb Raider" movie I'll never be back again. I signed up for two free tickets to see "Tomb Raider" on a special screening night (March 14th 2018). After completing the online registration process I received an email stating that "This email doesn't guarantee tickets, you must present this email to the box office to claim your tickets" so I made the trek to Edwardsville three days before the actual screening date to get the tickets. Once I made it to the theatre to see the movie with tickets in hand I was turned away due to the showing being "sold out" my question was "OK well how does that impact me and I already have tickets?" The manager couldn't give me a good explanation due to her seemingly being uninformed as to how this whole thing actually works. The only thing she could do for me was give me two passes to see the movie between the 19th and 22nd of March (mind you it was the 14th and I had to fit this move trip into my hectic schedule) The manager ask to see one of the new passes I'd been giving and had to read it in an attempt to give me an explanation as to how they even worked and even then it was confusing for both me and her. The whole ordeal reminded me of the "Seinfeld" episode where Jerry reserved a car and when he went to pick it up he was told that they didn't have the car he reserved available which basically done away with any purpose of the reservation in the first place. I don't plan on ever coming back to this theatre ever again, and to be quite honest, I may never visit an AMC Theatre again period due to how sloppily this was handled. I've never had an issue with Marcus Theatres and it looks like they'll continue to have my business. read more
