Came here on opening day for Spider-Man because I was trying to beat the typical DC crowds. Even for a 1 PM showing, the parking lot was packed! They do have additional parking, so I ended up parking in the second lot. But considering it was opening day for Spider-Man, I can understand why it was so busy. The theater itself was solid. I saw the movie in 3D, which was a great experience, and the mozzarella sticks always hit for me. My biggest issue was the seats. Mine didn't recline, and at this point, reclining seats are pretty essential for me when going to the movies. I'm not sure if it was because we were in a 3D theater or if the seats throughout the theater are like that, but that alone would probably keep me from choosing this theater again. The location is a plus because there are plenty of places to eat nearby, making it easy to turn a movie into a full outing with family or friends. Overall, I had a good experience, but I need my reclining seats! read more

My girlfriend and I went to see the new Spider-Man Brand New Day movie opening weekend... tell me why we got to the counter and we were told it'll be 15-20 minutes to wait for popcorn or chicken tenders. Not only that but the cashier seemed so unbothered and said "it might even take longer... I don't know, maybe 30 minutes..." You mean to tell me the place that pretty much only sells popcorn didn't have popcorn for the brand new Spider-Man movie!? read more

It was a beautiful building for sure, employees courteous and well dressed and well spoken (to me that matters). The space was clean. I did see an IMAX movie. The screen was beautiful. The sound was a little loud. I'm not sure why they have to make movies so loud, especially the commercials. In already hard of hearing and it was still tooo loud for me. There was NO RECLINING seats!! For a three hour movie this was such a disappointment. It was the only place with tickets for the movie and time we needed. I drove pretty far to find no reclining seats. My back was not happy with me for sitting sooo long. I get it, they can't just overhaul a theater like that. What they can do is lower the ticket price for that theater, it's a lesser experience. $5 off would help pack the theater especially in these hard economic times. Other than that, good experience! Every time I come to this theater my experience becomes worse than my previous visit. My friend and I came to see a movie and a few kids snuck into our theater and ran around without supervision. Then during my most recent visit my party and I were denied entry after purchasing our tickets because they wanted to search our bags/purses for food. I was carrying my shoulder bag from work and did not want to be subjected to a sudden search so they sent us away. Terrible. read more

The last few movies I've seen in theaters have been at this location. I'm not sure if it's the day/time I select to attend, but almost always there's plenty of seating options available with very few crowds. I like that this location is within walking distance to a nearby metro train. There's also restaurants nearby in the adjacent shopping plaza. The sound isn't particularly loud but it could've just been the theater room that I was in. read more

Honestly, the managers seem to really be trying, but unfortunately the community is not respecting this theater at all. Maybe they need to raise the prices or just have stricter policies. We spent over $100 in there today. Walked into the theater hallway to get hit by the smell of urine. Then...went to the seats and bam...the urine smell is still there. So...we asked for a refund in our tickets and food. The managers had good customer service and simply refunded without a question. They just didn't seem to be surprised though. This is the worst AMC I've ever been to. The employees don't care at all. Twice they gave me the wrong movie time, and if I hadn't double-checked it myself, I would have missed my movie. They don't even bother looking carefully at your booking and act like fixing their mistakes is no big deal, even though it wastes customers' time and causes a lot of frustration. This has happened to me more than once, which shows they don't pay attention. I definitely don't recommend this AMC if you expect good customer service. read more

I am so disappointed in the fact that this place closes the concessions well before the Thayer closes and if you don't buy your ticket online for the late show, they will not allow you to purchase a ticket. Came earlier in the day to pick up the tickets for an afternoon show. Upon arriving, trash was strewn at the entry point. I mentioned it to the employee issuing tickets. Came back at my stated movie time and the same strewn trash is still there...untouched. I mention it again and get the same empty assurance that someone will take care of it. Post movie (Mind you, at least 5 hours have gone by) and no one has given the cleanliness of the entrance the attention it deserves. If you're greeted by trash at the door, it might be an indication of what's to come. I saw how the concession stand and condiment area were and vowed not to eat anything they had. It just was not clean and I had my doubts about the food handling methods. So watching "Morbius" and knowing it's a Marvel movie anticipating a post credit end scene, we are sitting there and the person who came in to clean turns on the damn lights. I'm just like really? I wasn't the only one perturbed by his false sense of urgency to clean up. Other patrons were miffed about it too. Decided to use the ladies room before departing and wish I had just held it. The bathroom smelled of warm death and needed more attention than the entrance. Decisions, decisions...which do you clean first. I didn't post pictures of the bathroom because some things you can't unsee. There is a deep lack of concern for how this venue is kept. Magic Johnson wanted to have movie theaters in underserved areas to allow an opportunity for everyone to enjoy a trip to the movies. If this is the vision, someone needs glasses. The default seems to blame it on staffing shortages but when you see people lounging instead of working, it just becomes an excuse. Capable of accepting cash or contactless pay that isn't Apple Pay. Samsung pay works but ye of little faith working there want to argue with you about if it'll work. Parking is in an adjacent lot and behind the building. You can select your seats and pay online, but you won't get a military discount. Paying in person, you can do the same but pack your patience as there may be a line and little motivation by the staff. I got my tickets early and he tore them in half and just shrugged when I asked him why he did that. He said just bring both halves with you when you come back. Wow, just wow. Discount prices are offered for matinee showings. Check to see prices and times as it may change. Theatre two was clean and had no issues with seating. I'm extremely doubtful that I'll recommend this theater to others or return. read more

I went to AMC Magic Johnson Capital Center 12 expecting a movie... I got a survival challenge. First of all, the lobby smelled like someone microwaved old hot dogs and regret. The ticket machine blinked at me like it was begging to be put out of its misery. I got to Theater 6 and sat down--well, tried to. The seat was so broken it leaned back like it owed child support. Halfway through the movie, the screen glitched and froze on Michael B Jordan's face for 10 full minutes. No one fixed it. Someone in the audience just narrated the rest like it was a bedtime story. The popcorn? Stale. Like, "left out since Avengers: Endgame" stale. The soda machine gave me something that tasted like a mix of Coke and windshield wiper fluid. And don't even ask about the bathroom. Just... don't. Let's just say I saw things no women should see and left with PTSD and wet shoes. Would I go back? Only if I lose a bet or the zombie apocalypse hits and I need somewhere abandoned to hide. read more

I haven't been here in ages. The staff was in all motion and didn't seem eager to assist in the concession area. When I stepped to the line - there wasn't a line and there were 2 people working the counter - seemingly being busy but doing nothing. One person caught my eye and said "next" - now there's a line forming behind me. I was helped. Nothing great or remarkable about the service. 6$ for a bottle of smart water is kinda insane! Theater 1 was clean. Seats are assigned. That's cool but I didnt remember it being like this years ago. I like that the seats weee assigned. The restroom was clean on the surface BUT smelled awful. The smell was like urine mixed with Lysol then add a hot summer day where air isn't circulating properly. I would suggest getting new mops and using more cleaning products and changing the ventilation system. Sadly, I would not be back to this amc location and I'm really surprised that this location is still open - seeing that many other stores have closed in this "shopping area". read more

Bruuuuh. No words can explain how this experience has been. The movie hasn't even started and I'm already pissed off. 1-The wait for the concessions is entirely too long. Especially when you've been waiting in line for over 30 mins just for them to tell you they don't have ANY hot snacks. So I waited that long just for you to tell me it was for nothing. Then I can only use my stubs if you can scan it. And last but not least, you don't accept Apple Pay. We've been to other AMCs where this was never an issue. Although this location is closest to our home, I don't mind driving 30 mins to go somewhere else. The icing on the cake was the women's restroom smelling like straight urine. Genuinely odd team. Not only disrespected my family but also when buying a kid ticket for my kid they asked for a ID from my kid?

Very poor service by ticket checker. She dismissed my 12 year old childs ticket and would not let me through until I purchased an adult ticket for him despite him being the age for a child ticket. She asked I could show her ID to which I wondered why would my 12 year old need a state ID present on him at all times. I felt very discriminated and had to go through loops to even get offered a refund for the previous purchased ticket and was met with a rude attitude at my request. The theaters are filthy, the snack area is empty, no tops for cups, no sugar free drinks in 3 of the 4 dispensers. The staff is kind enough but this place is an absolute mess: Someone needs to take pride in this theater. Maybe I would be willing to come more often with my family. I am in no way a movie enthusiast, but when I do go, I have never even thought to visit this theater, due to the negative press it receives. On this specific day, my sister's ministry at church had a private showing of the movie, "Harriet" and had discounted tickets for guest in attendance. My family and I obliged. The AMC movie theater is pretty large in space and has 12 theaters. No real big bells and whistles, because the seats don't recline, but it was clean, had several arcade games near the entrance, the usual concession stand, and very spacious bathrooms. Located in the now defunct Capital Center Boulevard, the movie theater along with a few restaurants, are the only businesses left standing now that the new hospital is being built. I'm truly thankful the church decided to partner up with this theater because we really enjoyed ourselves. The staff was accommodating and friendly and it gave me an opportunity to try it out. Maybe we came on the right day, the right time, or was fortunate to sit with the right group of people, but sometimes you have to try places out on your own to see if you like it. You can never judge a book by its cover and in this case, this book was very good and I wouldn't mind returning to this movie theater in the future. PS looks like the movie theater is sticking around once the revitalization is completed for the hospital and the surrounding area. read more

This is the type of establishment where the experience is so bad that the Yelp page slowly begins to morph into a support group. I want to publicly apologize for previously rating this at 4 stars and leaving it up since 2017. I recently came here to see The Batman with some friends from out of town. I warned them that shenanigans may ensue, but even with my disclaimer, it exceeded their expectations. For starters, the outside of the theater was trashy. Once we were in the movie, we had about 15 minutes of good experience before some teenagers scurried in like roaches. Like clockwork, they began to talk loud, curse, and walk around the theater randomly. Next, someone behind us kept flashing a bright light at the screen. I'm not sure if they were looking for something or being obnoxious. Top it off with someone throwing a food trays and murmurings of an altercation and we've got the grand slam. All of this happened with no more than 10/15 people in the theater. Imagine if it were packed! Have some self respect and take your money to a civilized theater. read more

One thing I despise when entering a movie theater is to walk in and immediately see junk and trash on the floors. Especially when you see staff walking around not doing much of anything..it's just ewwww! I can understand a straw or two.. maybe some popcorn but to see sticky stuff in multiple places that you have to do a bit of a hop skip to avoid it .. YUCK! To add to the misery which is this place, the seats don't actually recline, there's no foot rest (C'mon it's 2019 ) and there isn't ample space between the rows so unfortunately Bob with the huge dome in front of you is now blocking partial view of the screen..not sure if his name was Bob but you get my drift. Now this review has nothing to do with the actual services I received today from the wonderfully accommodating staff members but everything to do with the presentation of this place. I won't lie, I should've known better considering this movie theater was located at the outskirts of a completely dilapidated, vacant and overall depressing looking town-center. But here's the run down: Theater One smelled like somebody elected to urinate on the floor instead of going to the bathroom which is understandable because the rest room had two doors hanging off of their hinges so the theater itself probably did provide more privacy. Initially I thought that the carpet on the stairs leading up to my seat were uniquely designed until I tripped and almost broke my neck. It seems as if every other step the carpet had come unglued and ignored for years. Lastly, the damn misspelled words at the concession stand just annoyed the hell out of me. Took my daughter to see the Barbie movie. I recently moved back to the area so I have not been to this movie theater since the 2000s. When we walked in the whole lobby is outdated and smells stale. The ticket agent was nice. The snack bar was unreasonably overpriced and they are stingy on the popcorn had to ask her to fill it up more. The theater was so outdated like they haven't updated it since it's been built. Just go ahead and shut it down looks like it barely gets business. read more

A very iconic place in my community. The Husband and I went to see Hobbs and Shaw. The lobby was clean. The concession stand was well stocked and the workers were very nice. No issues there. There were only 3 other people in the theater with us which was great. What was not great was how this dude comes in late and decides to sit directly behind us.....directly. I'm like, whaaaat?! Took my grandson to see MIB International for his birthday and purchased my tickets on Atom to avoid lines. Wrong! Arrived to find that the once thriving Capital Center is a ghost town. Which frankly has nothing to do with the theater except for the parking lot being a mess. We go into the theater and there is no ticket taker or kiosk to scan for the tickets we purchased so we need to stand in line to scan with folks that were purchasing tickets, ok, not a huge deal except the 2 people behind the counter were slow as molasses and when you have a 6 year old whose patience is that if a flea, it's an issue. Concession stand help, well, let's just leave it with we didn't have to get our own popcorn. I get it, the area is depressed right now, but your tickets prices don't reflect that, so let's keep the standards high. If not I suggest AMC make this a $5 movie theater, because that is the level we are experiencing right now. read more
