Soft shell crab sandwich with ginger beer

Nice spot to spend a beautiful afternoon in Shirlington. I ordered the special - soft shell crab sandwich with side salad. The crab was good size, but not that much meat. I thought the batter overpowered the taste of the actual crab a bit. Would prefer a lighter batter that isn't so salty. Service was excellent. Very friendly staff with great teamwork. Must try the ginger beer.

Dinner at @ in Shirlington, VA. Happy St. Patrick's Day! We checked out a local Irish pub when our friend was in town and got some tasty Irish food! The oysters we got were fresh and the Southern Rolls were crispy and tasty. Our mains were all traditional Irish dishes like Bangers and Mash, Irish Stew and Corned Beef with Cabbage. All were super hearty and tasted amazing! It was my first time trying Irish corned beef and it was fall apart tender and drenched in a flavorful parsley sauce. Service was great as well. Attentive and friendly. Would love to come back to try more Irish fare. Apps: Southern Rolls and Oysters Entrees: Bangers and Mash, Irish Stew and Corned Beef with Cabbage

Nice Irish pub with a good beer selection. I enjoyed the bangers and mash and mushroom soup. The Killkennys cream ale was delicious. My family each had the fish and chips which they enjoyed. The service was friendly and attentive.

An Excellent ,and Beautiful, Irish Pub in Shirlington If you want an Irish pub Experience in the heart of Shirlington, this is it. Our party decided that we wanted to get a good lunch. None of us had tried it but we like the Shirlington area so we picked this restaurant. We parked in the parking garage just walking distance to the south of their corner spot. As soon as you walk in you know you have arrived at a real Irish pub that was transported to the United States. The space has a bar in the middle, seating above, behind and in front of it. There is a bookshelf to one side of the bar, lots of wood and sayings etched into the glass by the bar. The tables seemed a mix of benches on one side and chairs on the other. The waitress was wonderful and funny and knew her business. Our group came to eat AND drink and so we tried many of their various wares on both sides. The place was very clean, not busy and the food came out quickly. We ordered the Shepard's Pie, Steak Sandwich, Bangers and Mash, and Corned beef and cabbage. The portions were large enough that we ate our fill and still had several meals to take home. The prices were very reasonable ($10-25 for main dishes) for the service, quality, portion, taste and atmosphere. It was a wonderful and delicious experience that I would recommend for anyone in the area.

Attended there trivia Tuesdays which starts promptly at 7:15. They go 8 rounds, 10 questions each with a few picture and music trivia thrown throughout. I loved this as it breaks up the monotony . If you go make sure you go with a big group as we a team of two were outranked as these teams consisted of 6 or more people. I enjoyed myself and the commentator has that genuine game show host voice. I ordered the blackened salmon dinner which was very filling and my partner ordered the Beef Wellington. Nothing like a good meal and live entertainment. I enjoyed all the various bar contests they have coming up including a Halloween costume contests. Will def return.

Service here is has been very consistent--whether at the bar or a table there. They have an extensive cocktail menu, with a little of something for everyone. I truly enjoyed Alice Alice--the perfect summer drink! When we came back mid winter the Irishman's martini was the right choice! Looking forward to coming back for some of their events!

Drinks: I got the whiskey in the jar drink and it was SO sweet, I couldn't finish it. Was there even whiskey in here? Not sure. Rest of the party got some beers - it's nice they had 20 ounce options. Drinks were pretty expensive. They had live music on a Saturday night and it wasn't overly loud and sounded fairly good. The interior was nicely decorated and liked the high ceilings.

Came here for a quick work happy hour with a few coworkers... it was pretty dead when we got here but ended up getting pretty busy (I think there was a tree lighting or something later that night). Service was quick and attentive and the food was great! Definitely be sure to get the fried green tomatoes and finish it off with the empanadas!

The food on my 2 dining experiences has been decent. Bangers & Mash was 3.5/5 and Meatloaf 4.4/5. Service has been solid and the drinks poured well. Guinness on tap along with Smithwick's & Harp! We were fortunate to be served by a young lass from the motherland.

I'll have various # of reviews per year. I moved to Alexandria from Arizona on Saturday, October 15, 2011. As a 27 year old at the time and being new to town, I wanted to check out the bar scene in various places like DC, Clarendon, other areas of Arlington, & the city I lived in Alexandria, more specifically Old Town. My scrapbook series of reviews will likely go into 2027 (but I'll get some done from 8/31 to whenever things get bad for me) as I may not be getting much if any Yelp reviews done in October-November time range due to high dose chemo with stem cell replacement. You never imagine what life throws your way. Sure, I had various issues when I was kid, teen, & in 20's, but pails in comparison to 40's for me. In the 20's, job situation was unstable, dating/women drama, etc. But you never imagine that at 15 year anniversary of being in DC area having to do high dose chemo. My experience at Murphy's in October 2011 & beyond: When I lived in Alexandria, this was my #1 favorite & go to bar. I liked a good Irish pub over some club or some generic bar, although I enjoyed some of those to in my 20's. Murphy's staff was cordial here, and beer was good. They had some music at times and could be crowded on a weekend. My 1st weekend in the DC area was October 15-16, 2011, I was busy with moving & settling in and starting job on that Monday. Following weekend I explored DC amongst other fun things. On the 3rd weekend, Friday, October 28, 2011, I explored the Old Town Alexandria bar scene and stumbled across Murphy's Irish Pub. It was also Halloween weekend and there were some people in costumes. I got a chick's phone #. Her name was Adele, like the singer. Tried to get a date with her but never panned out as she claimed to be busy with whatever else. I went to Murphy's a few other times and always enjoyed. I included pic of the October 2011 receipt from my scrapbook. I'm going to take a pic of each thing from scrapbook as that'll take more time, but I had to include the first thing at the very least. All the stuff in for the 2011-2017 living in Virginia era businesses included are just receipts.

The band was great and the atmosphere had that classic dive-bar Irish pub vibe lively, a little loud, and full of personality. Food was just okay, but honestly I wasn't expecting much and that wasn't why I came in. The music, the crowd, and the overall energy made it worth the stop. If you're looking for a laid-back spot with live music and a good old-school pub feel, this place hits the mark. Glad I stopped in.

I ordered the corned beef and cabbage on DoorDash, fully expecting the usual takeout roulette: soggy cabbage, tired meat, and a mild sense of regret. Instead? I got hit with a full-on Irish blessing disguised as dinner. The corned beef was so tender it practically whispered "top of the mornin'" and fell apart on command. No knife, no effort--just fork, bite, and immediate life improvement. Juicy, flavorful, and cooked like someone back there has ancestral pride on the line. And the cabbage? Listen... cabbage is usually just there for emotional support. Not this time. This cabbage had purpose. This cabbage had ambition. By the end, I wasn't "finishing my meal"--I was chasing the last bites like I'd just spotted the end of a rainbow. Container: empty. Dignity: questionable. Satisfaction: unmatched. If this is what survives a DoorDash trip through Old Town, I'm convinced eating it fresh in the pub might unlock hidden Irish heritage I didn't even know I had.

My boyfriend had the Shepards pie. (He is never very responsive with food but he raved about this to the point that we asked to talk to the kitchen.) It was hearty and flavorful. Really yummy beef gravy on top. l love Brussel sprouts and these had sweet Thai chili sauce and bacon bits (a house made recipe). I could have made that my entire meal. The brownie sundae was super moist as well. During the meal, it was a really good portion amount (at first I thought it was small) but it was spot on. If there was a downside I'd say the alcohol was a little more expensive then I would have expected, but that would be about it. I definitly feel like we've found a hidden gem. If you want high quality Irish comfort food. This is definitly the best one I've ever found.
