I have visited here a couple of times for current films, special showings, and previews. The most recent movie involved one of the Dolby screenings. The sound volume was intense, seriously, my ears still hurt! We hoped it was just the previews but to our chagrin this was not the case. As we both sat with hands over ears I decided to check my purse on the off chance I might have a pair of ear plugs left from my summer at Wolf Trap, thankfully I did (I split the pair with my friend, we both plugged one ear leaving a hand over the other). The woman at the ticket area was nice as were the folks who took tickets and arrived to clear the theater but I just cannot get past the fact that my ears still hurt. The theater is comfy, maybe too comfy for a low action drama, at least for me. Perhaps the volume is designed to keep you awake, I must admit the intense volume did keep me awake. I just don't think I should leave a movie with my ears hurting worse than they do after any night at a concert. If they are going to keep the volume so extremely high then they should have ear plugs available (I did ask at the end and was told they did not have ear plugs). If you are visiting one of the Dolby theaters consider bringing ear plugs, especially if you are seeing a high action film with sound effects, seriously. read more

Came here with the family and was not happy with the lack of cleanliness of the place. The condiment stand was the start, up until we got to the theatre and our seats didn't work. We came for a matinee and weren't too pleased with the environment. Our seats had stains from previous viewers in them and the floor was filled with trash. This place has really gone down. They were set up to be an upscale theater, being attached to Tyson's. However, many times it's been very dirty...like, trash over piling, popcorn everywhere, bathrooms trash bins over piling. Just bc it's in an upscale mall, does not give this place a classy, enjoyable experience. It's fine, but nothing to write home about. I would've given it three stars, but the waits are always long and it's more dirty than not. If you're wanting a classy date or night with friends, head to Angelika - classier environment and it's always clean. Only downside to Angelika, no reclining chairs. This is for management, you really need to look at your hiring. Either, your employees aren't working to their potential, or you're short staffed. I get the theater business is taking a hit; however, this theater is the reason why people will just stay home and watch the movie in the convenience and cleanliness of their own living room. read more

It's been a while and there have been some changes, so I think it's time for an update. Look, I love movies, I enjoy the big-screen experience, and I of course live for movie theater popcorn. I've been here dozens of times over the years and I'd like to continue to go because it's close to me and has a ton of movie options, but the bottom line is that this place has generally turned into a dirty dump with poor service and worsening features. Every new improvement has to be tempered with a "but", or just cancels out some new way they've found to screw up. Let's break it down, shall we? - Cleanliness: The place is a pig sty. The bathrooms are disgusting and always seem to have paper towel piled so high it appears to be exploding out of the top of the trash bin. There is flattened popcorn everywhere, all the time, and the soda fountains and stands with toppings/napkins are a sticky, greasy (respectively) mess. - Concessions: Sure, they added in those fancy new coke machines where you can mix whatever soda you want, but half of them are out of service for cleaning, cartridge replacement, or whatever. The rest only have half (or fewer) of the options available. That assumes you even make it to the front of the line before your movie ends, because its so long and slow you could mistake it for airport security the day before thanksgiving. Make sure to save time for searching for napkins, because half the dispensers are empty. - Staff: I can't really blame the teenagers who work here because it's clearly poorly managed or understaffed, or both, and they are just kids. But despite the filth everywhere, the backed up line at the concession stand, and the beeping and sputtering soda fountains, everyone moves like they have lead in their shoes, if they are moving at all and not just standing around chatting. The last time when I asked the ticket taker how he was doing on my way in, he literally said "Uhhhh......ok, I guess," like I just killed his cat. Clearly there is a morale/management issue. - The bar: I am a big fan of the addition of McGuffins, I enjoy the occasional movie beer and I can see how AMC would have to add it to compete with the far superior Angelika. But it's a tiny bar usually only staffed by one or two bartenders...and have you seen how insane this place gets on a Friday night? Can you imagine trying to serve AND ring up all the people who need a drink, especially after they see the state of the bathrooms, with only two people? The only slower way to get a beer is to harvest some barley, grow a beard, put on a flat cap, and get to work. I seriously hope they can improve, but I think I'm going to take a break from Tysons AMC for a while. The state of things is just really taking away from the experience, and there are plenty of other options, including other AMC locations. read more

Only as good as the people there. On one hand, this is a great all-purpose theater. Big, comfy seats, great/tons of screens, all major releases. The Dolby screens are the best - better screen quality, better seats, etc. The problems begin to arise when a ton of people are here. Service suffers (I've gotten accidentally flavorless popcorn before!), lines get ridiculously long, noisiness in the theater increases, and the overall experience tanks. It's not really the staff's fault, of course, but something to keep in mind: the best time to go is always off times (e.g. late nights). read more

The crazy thing is when the gentleman went to make a fresh batch he didnt even wash his hands. ITS FLU SEASON MAN!!! This is the first and last time I will becoming to the Tysons AMC. Seen a movie here and there was a gentleman saving 7 seats for friends who hadn't even gotten to the theater. I over heard him saying they were in traffic and he kept telling people to go away. When I mentioned this to staff I was told that they can't really do anything about it because they could be at the concession stand or in the bathroom. They did come in and do a spot check but when asked if there are any available seats they told staff no. The same man also pulled his phone out and started recording parts of the movie. Im not sure how this can be improved but this totally upset my movie theater experience here read more

Buy your tickets on Fandango. Scan the app at the kiosk and proceed merrily to the theater. If you're stopping to grab a few refreshments, enjoy the long line and pray they have enough cashiers to handle the masses. That did not happen during my visit. I noticed a VIP line and ALL of the cashiers, 5 of them, were helping the VIPs, while the regular people just stood there. 2 cashiers for the regulars. At least 50 people deep. Maybe 7 in the VIP line. Maybe. I'm never that hungry, so I proceeded merrily to the theater. IMAX 3D. Cushiony seats, spacious, great sound. Wish they reclined. Alas, they don't. So I watched a great movie and the 3D experience was pretty good. The bad part was all the trash after the movie and the poor state of the bathroom cleanliness and even by the concessions. It was dirty. Essentially since they automated the ticket booths, they are cutting headcount and it shows. Also, the ticket machines and the web are not compatible with the different color ticket offerings, you have to stand in line to wait. It seems like the theater is all about money and the shareholders than taking care of the customers and making the experience nice and clean. Please do something now. read more

Still no reclining seats here (unless you opt for a showing in one of the Dolby sound theaters-and even those don't recline very far back). Honestly- it's 2018 and if I'm paying over $20 for a movie, I want reclining seats. I don't know of many AMCs that are so far behind today's comfy standards, but this one has managed to hold out on us. Probably because they can still lure people in with the Tyson's location and the otherwise nice theater/MacGuffin's bar inside. The regular seats here royally suck - upright and stiff, you'll feel like you're on a Spirit Air flight. Please for the love of our backs, upgrade! Ps: if recliners aren't that important to you, then you may not mind this AMC... just be prepared to deal with crazy parking at the mall. You can choose seats ahead of time here, as with most theaters, and there's a food court right outside the theater area to fill up before or after your movie. read more

We come to this movie theatre over others because they offer closed captioning for their shows. This evening, their captioning machine was broke and it took them 45 min to offer us another showtime of our movie. This wasn't the fault of those working in the theatre or the individual machines but the overall captioning system. If AMC cannot offer closed captioning in all their theatres they should not advertise this! We had to move to another theatre with a showtime MORE THAN AN HOUR LATER than expected. I wouldn't normally leave a review, but as this is an accessibility service I hope a negative review speeds the process along to fix it for others. Unacceptable. read more

I took my daughters to see "Baby Boss" (I love Alec Baldwin) with a girl friend and her daughter and this was my first time at the AMC Tysons Corner Cinema. After looking at the prices on Fandango, I QUICKLY realized it was more beneficial (to my bottomline) to attend an early morning showing versus going in the afternoon or at night! The ticket prices in the morning were less than $8 but they were almost double that price in the afternoon. There are numerous other benefits to attending the early moving showing which I would like to highlight: the Cinema was CLEAN, there was actual PARKING in the parking lot, and the normal weekend mall CROWD had not yet amassed which made it much easier to get from point "A" to point "B". I've never been a fan of crowds and my experience watching a great movie in a clean theater sealed the deal for me -- this would be the "new-normal" for movie day. Unless there is a time conflict which would prevent me from seeing the early morning showing, I do not think I could find a good reason to see a movie in the afternoon when the prices are "sky high". While I found savings on the tickets, I did think to "ding" their rating for the their prices at the concession stand, but then I would have to ding every Cinema in the NCR -- so I'll say this, "the EARLY BIRD gets the worm and SAVES MONEY! AMC Tysons 16 is to movie theaters what Lord of the Flies is to island vacations. There is no management here. After three of three visits being unimaginably poor, I decided to post some pictures. The bathroom, which I didn't photograph, was every bit as bad, and I'm a guy, which means it had to be really bad to catch my eye. Clusters of uniformed kids made the laziest unionized street crews look energetic by comparison. Only one ticket taker was there for a line of over 50 people. This one is located on the third floor of the infamous Tysons Corner Center. There are restaurant and food options nearby at close distance and there are plenty of machines to purchase your tickets as well as selecting your seating in the theatre. It works out smoothly. However, it is in a location with a lot of foot traffic. With that, the interior needs a bit of an upgrade and a good cleaning. It seems like it has been beaten a bit over time. It is spacious, don't get me wrong. It is still a nice location inside. It just needs a face lift. Not as bad as the Rio location, but it doesn't hurt to renovate a bit. For highly anticipated movies, I tend to avoid theatres that I know will be packed to the brim. Although not a huge issue with this one as you can reserve your seating, I still prefer being in a place that I have some extra room to stretch. Overall, I will watch movies here when I am conveniently here and it is not too much trouble to watch a movie here. However, not a top pick for me. They do have IMAX so that does make it a plus. read more

Oh goodness.... Coming to the movies on a Saturday afternoon of a holiday weekend was a fluke! The movie we went to see had plenty of seating so we ventured off to Tysons Corner! Parking was a mess but we secured a spot. There was a 10 minute wait in the full service line because there was only 1 person working the ticket sales. Once inside we waited.... Wait for it....almost 25 minutes for popcorn and a soda. Again, there was a lack of employee presence. There were 2 people working concessions at the 16 theater complex! After 1 Hour of showing the movie in 2D!! they finally realized it is supposed to be in 3D so they restarted the movie at 22:25 again in this time 3D. no one came to inform us what's goin on and most of us left since it was getting too late and we couldn't stay for another 2 hour watching the same thing over. read more

I'm coming to a realization that even though this is one of the largest of AMC's theaters in Northern Virginia, it has a management team that just doesn't care about this particular location. Came in and purchased my tickets on the AMC app. We ended up opting for the "Dolby Sound" Experience, at $20 a ticket, this better be worth it. We get to the theatre and we're approaching the "ticket taker" and it is this slobbishly looking guy, who sneezes and barely makes any attempt to shift his direction. Thank goodness he wasn't touching my phone to scan it. At that point I was fully disgusted. Walk in, and seriously justvwanted to be sprayed down with Purell. As we're walking into the actual theatre, we walk by the trash receptacles in the hallway leading to the seats and see them overflowing. So I'm confused, they apparently don't empty these after cleaning the actual theater? We walk in and I'm completely overwhelmed by the actual setup, thinking 'ok this is pretty awesome.' We get to our seats, and that feeling of awesome was replaced with the "WTF" as I noticed the seats and area around the seats were dirty and stuff was left in the cup holders. $20!!! TWENTY DOLLARS, for a TICKET for this??? If you're going to be negligent with this theater, THIS PARTICULAR theater should be a priority when it comes to cleaning and upkeep. Then that disgusted feeling creeps back in. You have to be kidding me. This just detracts from the overall experience. After figuring out the seat controls, I took a position that was do-able, and even with that, once reclined, there is no room for people to pass by, which I can only imaging the annoyance should that theatre ever be full and having to wrangle the slow controls to do so. The seats, do recline enough for suitable comfort. The movie starts, and the sound is naturally at its higher end, not sure why Mary Poppins would be, and there were absolutely no scenes in which the motion/vibrations were activated. Projection was ok, except the was a noticeable protruding Point on the screen itself. Kind of distracting. The movie ends, we exit through the other internal hallway and the other trash receptacles are overflowing on one side. So again, you don't have any ushers on staff that services these areas while the movies are going? I needed to stop off in the restroom prior to leaving, no big surprise, the restroom is a filthy mess. I go into a stall and there's trash all over the ground. So again, you don't have ushers assigned to servicing and maintaining the restrooms? And the same wall urinal is STILL bagged up and out of service, it has been like this for months now. Walking towards the exit, I notice popcorn debris strewn about, leading into the bar, so again you don't have an usher sweeping or maiming the lobby with a porter pan? I just don't get what the deal is with this place anymore. I'm coming from a perspective of being a former AMC employee, but from the era in which we wore the black polyester vests with tuxedo pants and bow ties, and later the oddly "cruise ship, epaulettes adorned" uniforms. We had more respect and pride in our theaters in making sure that each guest had a rewarding movie going experience. But it just seems like those standards have been pushed to the side and ushered in, arevthe days of not caring what kind of overall experience the guest might be expecting. I've been here multiple time and I really love this theatre: not for anything spectacular other than close to my house, and inside the mall with separate parking. Last night I visited for $6 Tuesday and was caught off guard by a few things. They're doing construction on the 1/4 of the parking lot, so my usual space was not unavailable. This was not a big deal since the lot is huge and there were plenty of indicators to let you know not to park in that area. The second thing that really got me was the lack of a crowd on a Tuesday. You would think more people would want to take advantage of $6 movies but maybe I'm wrong. Also, they have changed the layout so instead of a line with multiple cashiers, everything is done on the digital screens. Definitely a plus but I would love to see how this works on a busy day/night! The last thing that was almost jarring was the amount of time it took for our drinks to be made. My beau ordered a top shelf Long Island and I ordered a patron margarita and it seemed to take forever but in reality, at least 10 minutes. Now I am particular about my bartenders but give this place a break because, ya know...movie theater. But, I ordered drinks, then went and got popcorn, cane back to the bar, went to the bathroom and still the drinks were just being shaken. So...a break I will give but geeeeez! I've seriously been spoiled with other theaters (with reclining seats!) in the area but Tysons seems to be stepping it up with other amenities. + They offer reserved seating + There's a full bar if you want to get your drink on (in the area where the arcade previously inhabited) + Self-service soda and ICEE machines + Basically every movie plays here, unlike other theaters that have to share movies with other theaters near them + Easy accessibility from the parking lot It's not the best theater, but not the worst in this area. read more

So much youth! From toddlers to teenagers, this movie theater is teeming with Generation Z and below. This is not my movie theatre of choice but it it's sheer size means more movie options and times. It is also convenient to 495 and 66 AND has free and abundant parking which means it is always a good halfway meeting spot with friends. I like the fact that you can reserve seats ahead of time, which means your chances of sitting in the front seat and getting sick from being too close to the screen is slim if you plan ahead of time. That being said, I do not find the seats a comfortable as the roomy recliners at Courthouse and Springfield Mall. Tickets are about $13 a pop for a night flick but you can save almost half price by purchasing the AMC Gold Pass at Costco. The savings are huge, especially when you are treating family members to a night out. They also make great gifts as well! The only caveat about the Gold Pass is that you are unable to reserve seats ahead of time so this might not be good for opening night. read more

AMC Tysons Corner 16 - Absolutely ridiculous stained seats - Cinema Near Me - Mclean, Virginia

This movie theater doesn't seem to care about customer service at all. My friend and I came to see a movie, and were running late so we were hurrying in. My friend, a diabetic that needs lots of water, had her clear water bottle with her. An employee told us we couldn't bring it in, and we told him we were fine with emptying it. He said that even empty water bottles are not allowed, but that we could leave it at the front desk (which I had never experienced at any theater). My friend didn't want to leave her favorite bottle in an unlocked cabinet with random people. We asked why it was a problem if it was empty and he said we could talk to the manager, who was at the front desk. So, we talked to her (Mariela I think?) but she insisted without explaining the reasoning behind it that we absolutely could not have the bottle in the theater and that we would have to leave it at the front desk. Then she said she would "happily" provide a refund if we wanted to go to another theater. WOW. Great customer service right there. When we came back to get the bottle, someone else was at the front desk. We asked him how long this policy had been enforced and he said it really depends on who's on duty. -_- To management: Do you really think this is a smart business decision to lose customers or customer satisfaction over? I don't get it, are you trying to force people to "buy" a water bottle if someone is in need of water? Because if so, I'd imagine that most people annoyed enough by this would refuse to buy any drink (or give you more business at all in the future), resulting in you losing money instead! read more

umm.. **3.5 Stars** I say!! They are oh so expensive.. sigh! But I;d rather come here than anywhere else for a good IMAX 3D movie! At $17.50 per person, it is a rip off, but then the seats are oh-so-comfy, the theaters are clean, and the screen are biggg and wide! So once in a while, I like to treat myself here! And WHO can beat the fact that I get to shop and stare atleast at the tysons shops!! :p :p.. Weekend movies before 12 are WAAAAAAAAY more cheaper than going after this time. My friend and I try to do this as often as we can. I think we paid $7 for the last movie we saw "Baggage Claim." We've watched movies as early as 9:30am in order to beat the crowd and get more value for our money. We usually get our tickets from the kiosk because we don't have to wait in line etc. Self-serve is the best. Not sure why people have to wait in line unless they are paying with cash. Anyway, great theater and the popcorn when popped right away, is awesome! Save some $$ and go earlier, why pay more when you can pay less! read more

There are definite pros and cons to this movie theater. Being part of the AMC family, there are lots of ways that you can save a dollar going to the movies, but that also means that the prices are regionally inflated, making the sticker shock for a family of four inevitable. Nothing in Tysons Corner Center is run down, so you'll see chairs in good condition, lots of movie offerings, a bar available to those who are seeing a movie, and the ability preorder concessions through their app to avoid a line. The bathrooms are usually clean, especially ones located closer to the theaters in the back. I highly recommend signing up for their AMC Stubs program, which is $15 annually, but it is a highly lucrative rewards system if you play your cards right. Stubs members can watch standard movies for only $5 per ticket on Tuesdays (as of Feb '19, this program is supposed to run all year), and you can earn additional $5 rewards from buying movie tickets and concessions. This location accepts AMC coupons offered through 3rd party companies, such as discounts from Coke Rewards. Parking is also easy, being part of the mall. There are several "bridges" from the parking garages that you can take. Just park on the upper-most levels and it is obvious where to go. Tysons isn't cheap but it also isn't crappy. I regularly bring my children here to see new movies. read more

One of the best movie theaters in DC area. Plus they let you take outside (mall food court) drinks inside too - thats great coz I'm not a big fan of paying $4.75 for a soda inside a theater! Screens are nice and sound is good. Restrooms could be a bit cleaner - hopefully! read more

In AMC Tysons, the only leather recliners are for the Dolby auditorium which there is an upcharge for (~$25 or ~$11 on $5 discount days if you are a premiere member). The Dolby seats don't even fully recline like those at Cinemark (Fairfax Corner) or Regal (Fairfax Towne Center). Imax 2D/3D at Tysons are small seats you would expect from 15 years ago. Now the reason I give AMC Tysons 2/5 is largely due to the customer service. What's the issue with customer service? They are rarely to be found at the actual desk. Now if you actually meet a manager, they may give you a re-admit ticket depending on your issue, but there is usually no one at the "customer service" desk (are they hiding in a back room or something?). Anyways, if you actually need help and don't see anyone at the desk, I would suggest you go up to one of the employees at concessions (there are always a few there) and ask if you could speak to a manager or get someone at the customer service desk. I usually try to use the kiosks to save some time waiting in line (even though I am a "premiere member"). On several occasions, *all* of the kiosks were not working/had no "paper" or were turned off. Don't get me wrong, they have a ton of kiosks (I'd estimate around 12?), but they often have issues. In comparison, I have never had an issue with a kiosk at Regal Fairfax Towne Center, Cinemark Fairfax Corner, or Angelika Mosaic district. I think they could do a better job telling people that you can just walk up to the machines near the cashier (as the line is just for the cashier), but then the kiosks often are not working so... For some reason, I have never seen more than two cashiers working at any one time (again, compare to Cinemark, Regal, Angelika). 80% of the time there is only one cashier. Even if there is a line of 20-30 people, the max you will see is two cashiers. Remember no one being at the customer service desk? I'm guessing this movie theater puts the majority of its employees to work at concessions and is understaffed. It makes sense if you consider that's where theaters earn most of their revenue. Lastly, their bathrooms are not very well maintained compared to Regal Fairfax Towne Center, or Angelika at Mosaic District. One of the men's bathrooms in the back (not the men's restroom next to concessions, but as you continue down that direction) hits you over the head with the smell of pee as soon as you walk in. Repeated experiences like this make me wonder how often these bathrooms are serviced. The slow low-pressure trickle of water at the sinks is also very disappointing. Sidenote: Yes, I contacted AMC Corporate (actually wrote them a letter) about the lack of employees at the customer service desk/other issues. I included my contact information in the letter and asked them to cancel my membership and get back to me. Guess what? Corporate cancels my membership, doesn't refund the premiere fees, and doesn't even bother to contact me. I called them about a month after they cancelled my account and the representative said they "emailed me" a few days before (this is a month after they cancelled my account). I told them I had received no email and when it had supposedly been sent. Unsurprisingly, I was put on hold and then the call "dropped." Sound familiar? read more

Out of popcorn and only one drink machine turned on (long line #4) which was out of Regular Coke. Seriously? 5. Previews lasted 25 minutes. 6. Seats were dirty and loose/always reclined. 7. Bathrooms were a disaster, and a urinal out-of-order. Long line #5. 8. "Guest Services" was a security guard wearing a bulletproof vest. Seriously? 9. Whoever said this place reminded them of an airport was spot on. 10. Day at the movies with my son sharing a popcorn and a Cherry Coke (since no Regular Coke): a little north of $40. For this price, the experience should have been considerably better. read more

The challenge with this place is access. If you enter from the 2nd level, they channel everyone toward a massive escalator. However...if you are on the 2nd level and walk down toward the theater, on the left side you will find elevator access that put's you in the food court much closer to the theater. My & James discovered this when we went to see Guardians of the Galaxy II after a nice lunch at Costal Flats. read more

This is my favorite theater in the entire area. Great seating. Great screens. My favorite thing to do is attend midnight openings. The energy is awesome. When the Simpsons opened, the sold-out audience actually did the wave. What a riot. :) Concessions are fair to average. This is one of the better theaters in the area. Clean theater and nice big seats. They've recently added reserved seating so that is a super plus. However, concession lines are slow. I usually buy my tickets on Fandango so I have not dealt with the box office. Ticket pick-up on the computers can be a pain though since they tend to break down. read more

I hangout once a week with my friends at AMC Tysons Corner 16. I got A-list since 2019, which is fantastic! In AMC Tysons Corner 16, there are DOLBY, IMAX 3D, Real 3D, and digital theaters. Recently, they also renovated and have one IMAX auditirum. Plus, it is worth mentioning that the theater is located on the third floor of Tysons Corner Mall. There is a big dining hall around the theater. And it is near the exit which will close way after 9.30 pm after the closing time of the entire mall. It is always crowded on weekends and Tuesday night (I guess it's $5 movie day). I really like AMC Tysons Corner 16! read more

The place is dirty. Popcorn and drink stains everywhere and the bathrooms are a biohazard. The seating is ancient at this point. The place is past due for a major renovation. read more

Park on the 3rd floor, parking lot C and it takes you right to the food court and movie theater on the top floor of the mall. They even have automatic pay ticket kiosks if you don't want to stand in line. I like the stadium seating and tall backed chairs. Didn't see my kiddie pack of snacks, small drink, popcorn in the container with a candy offering. Wish they offered that. Just the right amount. read more

Just moved to the area and went to see Midsommar last night. Getting to the theater itself was pretty stressful, given that it's tucked away in the top corner of the hell that is Tyson's corner. We initially navigated there from the first floor; I highly recommend parking at the top of the garage and using the outside bridge to go directly to the third floor. Anyway, I found it to be clean despite the reviews saying it was dirty. This was a Monday night though, and it seemed very empty. This theater was chilly, but not as cold as some I've been to. The tickets were $14.50 which feels steep, but I guess it's an average price for a movie now. Didn't get any snacks so can't speak to that. The seats were comfortable with a good view. I'll probably check out other theaters in the area before coming back here. read more
