I wanted to like publican, but overall thought it was just okay. The portions are quite large, but…read moreis missing the finishing touches that are thoughtful to the customer. For example with my mussels, rather than this large chunk of baguette, I wouldn't preferred it pre-sliced. We went on a busy Saturday night and it was popping in here for sure. However because it was so busy, my table ended up being neglected and our waitress was impossible to flag down. In terms of vibes, it seems like a pretty cool place to be. I liked the chairs and then the little booths seem like a fun time. I was also a big fan of the bathroom sink. Overall, Publican was a fine time, and even better time if you're looking for meat forward dishes.

Very unassuming, considering it's just your good ol' neighborhood butcher shop / market by day. Off the bat you can tell they carry clean, wholesome products. The shelves and fridges are stacked with the likes of fresh meat cuts, house-made sauces, cheese, jams, pickled goods... the list goes on. I can only imagine their deli sandwich are incredible. I'll have to return to order from their regular cafe next time I'm in town. The event however, wow very well done and the menu was stacked. Their sweet staff kept bringing out family-style dishes and I didn't have a single bite that wasn't delicious. From the butcher's steak to the mussels and everything in between. Oh and the night finished with some kind of apple/cranberry pot pie situation. Wow. Oh and plenty of wine and cocktail options here too! Like plentyyyy. Keeping this place on my radar for when I'm next in the city. Thanks for having us!

I'm currently on vacation in chicago and was exploring the Chicago French Market when I came across a big sign that said something about pastrami. It was a still a while before Clinton Street Smoked Meats opened, but the guy (I'm sad I never asked his name) was super helpful and just told me that the meat was already done and just to come back in a few minutes. So I did. I ordered a their half pastrami sandwich on rye with the potato salad. Oh my ever loving goodness! This was so good I actually started tearing up at the table. Since I got the first slice, they asked me if I wanted a fatty cut or lean cut of meat (I'm not sure if they ask everyone, so I just added this tidbit of information). I got a fatty cut of meat and added Dijon mustard. This meat was so soft and moist that it really didn't need anything else. It held together so well. The potato salad, I'm sure was made with some addictive substances because, holy cannoli, was this an amazing side to have. It stands up on its own but couple with the sandwich, was mind blowing. In the ingredients list, they add bits of the pastrami into the potato salad which was an amazing touch. I will absolutely need to come here again each time I'm in Chicago. Clinton Street Smoked Meats is where it's at!!

The turkey provolone sandwich was great! The meat did not taste smoked, which was a plus for me. The bread was delicious as well. Service was fast, and we took our food over to the tables at the opposite end of the market, where a musician was performing. It was a nice lunch before a show at the Goodman!

We ordered the steak fajitas that came with beans, tortillas, and a little side of guac. The tortillas are apparently handmade and fresh, but I was a bigger fan of the corn ones instead of the flour ones. Both still very good though! We also got the shrimp skewers, and it paired so well with the free chips and salsa they gave us. I'm not a huge fan of bell peppers, but they made them so flavorful and tasty here that I couldn't stop eating them. The service was great with the servers and busboys since they brought out the chips/salsa right away and made sure our waters and drinks were always full. The only flaw I have for the place was that we waited nearly 40 minutes even though we put our name and phone number down in the front. The host claims she called us but might of dialed the wrong number, so it was a little bit of a bummer to have to come back and check in when we could have been seated earlier. However, one of the managers stopped by our table to ask how our food was and packed up our food for us at the end. The ambiance was very packed and lively in there! There were so many people celebrating birthdays that they would have signs and cake and even sing to you for your special day. It's BYOB, so there was a lot of people making their own drinks. Additionally, I'd make sure you have cash since it's a cash only place. I definitely want to come back again and recommend it to others; however, you better be prepared for delicious food and an exciting environment!!

We ordered the queso fundido, horchata, Sabina's tacos, and skewers which comes with three. Next time, I would skip the queso and horchata as the queso got hard quickly and the horchata seemed a little watered down. The Sabina's taco and skewers were delicious! The chicken was not as good the shrimp but we wanted to try it. I recommend getting the shrimp as I feel like it's juicier naturally. The tacos were flavorful and I loved having the refried beans and cheese in the taco. The restaurant is lots of fun as the staff are all busy, playing music, and making sure people get their birthday songs in. I highly recommend this spot as it's good and the vibes are fun.

This is the perfect size for making mohinga (Burmese catfish soup). They also have a fish service counter if you need them to cut it into smaller pieces. They have nice big sturdy plastic bags that can fit the whole fish. They have separate service counters for chicken, fish, and beef/pork which is helpful to reduce cross contamination. It's super cold so make sure you bring a down jacket and beanie! The service line sometimes takes a bit of time so just be aware of that. There are plenty of other meat offerings like whole chicken, pork, sausage, beef, etc. All of them look really fresh and very competitive pricing. There's also a grocery store section where you can buy fresh vegetables, spices, and even baked goods like paczkis. The Bavarian cream paczki was delicious and not too sweet. There's also bulk frozen foods like fries and jalapeno poppers (if I remember correctly). Finding a whole catfish in Chicago can be difficult and I'm glad I can always trust Peoria packing for my catfish needs. The whole 2 lb catfish was only $6, incredible deal! The parking lot is decently sized, on a busy day like Christmas or Thanksgiving you can drive further near where the trucks are parked and park along the fence. For special holiday hours they were responsive both through Instagram DM and phone calls to confirm their hours! Really great service. They recently moved to this new location in October 2025. It used to be near Fulton Market in West Loop. Different location but same great service and item selection, probably more spacious too.

And it seems to me that you get a better deals at Peoria, than you do in the grocery stores. Because it's just me, a hundred dollars can go a long way for meat for the month.
