The booth tables were a bit small for a party of four, but we made it work. The service was very good and the food was delicious, tho the rice wasn't very impressive. Everything else was very good and there was a lot of food for the price.

    Mixed grill

It was good first time here, I had the mixed grill. Boyfriend had the lobster pasta. We started with the fried feta, and red pepper hummus. Server was nice!

It's good, their seafood and bar are in my opinion the best in the area, good service from professional wait and dinner staff.

Went to this place with a friend. Great food and good times. We sat at the bar and it was decorated festively for the holidays I enjoyed the cute decor. The bar tender was super friendly. I tried a chicken dish and it was super yummy. Really cheesy with mushrooms and tomatoes the rice was super buttery and really tasty as well. My friend got the Scallops and he said that they were really good too. This place is just all around delicious. The only bad part to this restaurant is the parking. It's terrible!! Other than that I totally recommend this place!

Amel's is one of our go-to spots for amazing food! I'm not a huge salad person but have to get their house salad with their homemade dressing every time. It is so fresh and tasty! Their soup is hands down some of the best, too. You really can't go wrong with anything on the menu. It's always fresh and delicious, plus they start you off with pitas and dipping oil.

    Artichokes stuffed with goat cheese

Tried this restaurant for the first time on the recommendation of a friend. As many pointed out, the decor is a bit dated, but the place is clean. Our server, Annie, was great. All of the food was delicious . We had artichokes stuffed with goat cheese, French onion soup, lamb shank, the gyro platter, and crab stuffed mushrooms. The tables were bussed and reset quickly (that is a big deal to me) We will definitely be back.

Good Mike is an excellent host, bartender and company. Today's app was the Scallops Wrapped in Bacon It originally came in a skewer with a few more, but I was sharing and it was delicious. The presentation was much better than this picture, but it didn't make it very long after the balsamic drizzle and garnish. Next was a seafood sampler; jumbo shrimp, crab meat, and salad... Our meals varied from the carpet ride dinner menu, to the lamb, I had the gyro platter and she crab soup and Moroccan soup and French onion soup. Salads are amazing too. I'll never give up trying to eat something new, been happier with every new flavor, love this gem of Amel's.

We were in the mood for Mediterranean food and called here around 5PM on a weeknight to see about reservations for 7:30PM... The lady advised they would still be very busy, but made reservations for us. We were seated immediately upon arriving, but they were still packed! (So, be sure to make reservations if you want to dine here) The menu is quite large, loaded with lots of Mediterranean items. Service was mediocre, would definitely have been 5 stars with better service. The food was flavorful and decent. The steak on their kabob was cooked to perfection. One of my favorite items was the baklava ice cream, which they make there; it was outstanding! I'd definitely return!

If I am looking for Mediterranean food in the South Hills, this is my first stop. My whole family agrees. If I'm really hungry I will get the Aladdin's pasta with spinach, feta and pine nuts; it's a delicious vegetarian meal and enough for two meals. If I'm with a group I might get the Mezze platter with a selection of Mediterranean apps. But what I most often do here is stop by to grab a couple of their classic tossed salads, which are a little elevated with beets and chickpeas, and their hummus, which for my money is the best in the city (and as a lifelong vegetarian I've tried a lot). That's just a perfect meal for a couple people; they also give you an abundance of Pitaland bread to go with it. They have a lovely, cozy indoor space and if the weather is nice the outdoor patio is a beautiful spot to enjoy a sangria and feel like you're somewhere other than McNeilly Rd. entirely. Service is always fast and friendly; I often pick up takeout at the bar which does a good business and they are always quick to get me on my way,

I hadn't had Amel's in years as I moved. There are a lot more Mediterranean choices in California where I live but Amel's is still the best.

    Are reservations required?

Nope, but weekends are pretty busy, so recommend for patio or tables. Weekdays are a nice bar hangout.

Examples of menu items are lentil soup, babaghanoush, falafel, shepherd salad, lamb chops, many kebabs, sea bass, sautés, house-made desserts such as baklava, and non-alcoholic beverages. My husband and I ate one lunch here. Indoor and covered outdoor seating was available. The employees promptly greeted and seated us, and I appreciated that they recommended specific menu items to help me choose. After a reasonable wait, the foods were brought to our table. Here are my ratings for what we ordered: Grilled Shrimp - 5 stars - Several large, juicy shrimp were on skewers and had been perfectly cooked. Sides were mixed vegetables and a mix of rice and bulgur. Chicken Shish Kebab - 4 stars - The chunks of chicken were large and juicy and had a mild seasoning. On the side was rice pilav. Turkish Tea - 4.5 stars - This black tea was a good size and was served hot. Packets of sweeteners were available. The total price was $55 plus tax and tip.

It was my return to the dating scene after a few years in hiatus, would I be ready? Could things actually go right? Why did we pick this night to go out for the first time? Am I going to completely lose my mind? Well, the original plan was Tacayo and it was closed, but we strolled past it into this establishment with me not even knowing that we were in a totally different restaurant. I looked at the menu, this doesn't look like taco's at all, what is happening here? We called Tacayo to make sure in case they were open and we could still eat there. Nope, they were certainly closed. You know what? I took it in stride and said, "what the heck, I like mediterranean food." We were waited on and placed our orders, things seemed to be moving along nicely. The only problem being we had both ordered the falafel platter and my date calmly tells me that in the past she thinks she had an allergic reaction after she ate chick peas. I was like, well we better just inform our waiter and get something else. She says, no, that's o.k. I don't want to waste food. Ummm....you want to risk your own health so as not to waste food? As it turns out she at the falafel and was completely fine. So, truth be told I have had way better Middle Eastern food. You can tell that they are trying and they make the effort to please the customer, but the food that comes out is just o.k. For a date night it wasn't terrible, but it wasn't stellar. Am I single again? Of course I am. Did I have a good time? Absolutely. I wrote this back in January, but never published it till now. Hope you enjoyed reading it. Cheers, and here's to your health

It's got a nice location on the central road in Squirrel Hill, but it's a bit hard to find parking. When I got there, I got to try their shish tawouk (chicken kabob), mujadara, salad with feta, and iced mint tea. The tea was pretty alright. Refreshing and a nice mint flavor; I think they might make the blend in house. They also brought out some nice pita before we started the meal. For my main course, I ordered the shish tawouk. You usually get this meal with the rice pilaf, but they were out, so I got to try the mujadara. I'm actually quite glad! The chicken was tender, and the portion was very fair. They served it with a nice tomato sauce, but I also asked for some garlic sauce on the side. The sauces both seem to be homemade, and definitely go well with the chicken. The mujadara was surprisingly delicious. They top the dish with crispy sweet onions. It's a mix of lentils and some other grain. Very good! One thing to mention generally is this place closes quite early, usually around 8 or 8:30 PM, so do keep it in mind. It is also very clearly a family endeavor, with the mom managing most of the tables and the kids always helping out. Very nice place!
