STILL TERRIBLE. I will NEVER fly the US carriers when flying internationally. However, I need to fly them when flying domestically (why I'm not a fan of domestic travel). So, I book two flights on AA to NOLA. Get the tickets, charge appears. All good. A few days later, ANOTHER charge appears for the same amount. Apparently it's standard policy for AA to double charge until after the trip. Um, no, not on MY card it's not. I call my card and get the charge taken off. I then have my confirmation number, and try to choose seats. Except the only ones available have a $58-64 charge. UM NO, EFF THAT. So i talk to the snippy customer service agent that tells me I have to wait until day of flight to be "randomly booked" into a seat. WTF. I already reserved a seat on your crummy plane with the man-handed waitresses in the sky. Are you seriously telling me I have to now pay EXTRA to actually claim the seat I already paid for? Nope. And we're not paying $25 extra for baggage either, 'cos carryon. Oh, and we're also not paying for food or drinks, because you are not getting one more RED CENT out of me. TERRIBLE SERVICE AND AIRLINE. read more

They board us, late, THEN perform maintenance. AFTER we board. So we can all sit here for an undetermined amount of time at no cost to American. Take our money, then lock us on the plane while they perform maintenance that should have been done on their time. And hey, way to make us feel secure on a plane that has maintenance down while people are onboard. GFY American Airlines. read more

I could not be more annoyed at the ridiculous 24-hour delays due to American Airlines not properly servicing and checking their aircrafts at appropriate intervals. After everyone boarded my flight, we were all asked to deplane due to a problem with pressures that they realized had not been checked earlier in the evening. We got switched to 2 different terminals before taking off. We arrived a little over an hour behind schedule. The plane was still at the concourse when I arrived in ORD, but I think my seat was given away to a standby passenger and they said I couldn't board. This resulted in my going on standby for flight after flight with no guarantee of boarding since anyone with higher tier status automatically gets priority. Other than referring me to go from one service agent to the next, there has been little genuine interest in finding timely solutions. read more

American Airlines you should be ashamed of your self I used points to fly my sister in law to AZ She broke both ankles and many bones in her feet could not bear any weight on either foot and was trying to get home to have surgery. We set up wheel chair service to get her to the gate , on the plane and in her seat .Never thinking that the airlines would not be equipped to handle this request. The first employee acted like this is was very much an inconvenience. She told my SIL once at the gate she needed her wheel chair back and to move to a seat .Keep in mind she could not put any weight on either foot .She did not help and left her in a seat by the agent . The flight was delayed and eventually cancelled . The agent did not help with the issues , she let my SIL sit there until finally coming over and told her that the next flight 4 hours later was full and she would put her on the 9pm flight , eight hours later . She ordered another wheel chair, when it came my sister in law was wheeled facing the window ... shortly later everyone in the boarding area left .. her there. Not a soul nearby and not a word from the agent that the gate changed . A pilot walking by noticed my SIL in distress and asked if she could help . She brought her to the new gate . The agent there told her she could not have an aisle seat , another passenger over heard the conversation and offered to switch seats . My sister in law was not offered even water . Another lovely passenger brought her water and offered her food . Nine hours later my SIL could not go to the bathroom as it was " NOT allowed " for wheel chair personal to enter the washroom lobby . She finally landed in AZ , very distressed, feeling completely helpless and having the worse travel experience imaginable while dealing with the pain of TWO broken ankles . STAY AWAY FROM AMERICAN AIRLINES. My story is in two parts First: On our return from South America, AA cancelled our flight from Miami to Chicago. These tickets had been booked and paid for 9 months in advance. We were booked first class and downgraded to economy on a subsequent flight. And they still (2 months later) have not refunded our money. Second: We had a direct flight from Chicago to Jamaica coming up and a week before the flight they changed it to a one stop flight (with short connection time-risk of missing or luggage not making it) arriving later and we are seated separately. On a second set of tickets they went from a direct flight to an over night, one stop, 8 hr layover connection. These tickets were paid for 9 months in advanced. American Airlines has zero respect for their customers and they don't deserve your business. Don't fly with them. Cancel any credit cards you have through them. Customers need Federal action to protect their rights. read more

if I could give zero stars I would. when the staff informs you of anything they cut you off and attempt to speak to you like a child. Additionally, it is clear as day whoever the chubby Hispanic guy was handling people's tickets is either not cut out for the stress or needs to be retrained on customer service. he was incredibly rude to multiple group 1 members in O'Hare and appeared extremely flustered. he also didn't appear aware of the AA bag policy which was LITERALLY in his face yet he interpreted every additional bag as something needing checked in like Diaper bags. Highly unprofessional staff. 0-10 recommendaRion. read more

I am disappointed in American Airlines, on our flight east our plane was delayed and made us run to catch our connecting flight, and now our flight headed home is delayed, because their old planes they keep using have issues and they also moved our seats after we had paid for an upgrade, and I hope we get a refund for that, or I might be writing a worse review later! I usually use Alaska Airlines, who seem to be more reliable! read more

Actually the worst airline I've ever flown with... For several reasons SECURITY- My boyfriend had his backpack with very expensive laptop, invaluable notes, other valuable items, etc. stolen on his way to an interview. He put the backpack under his seat rather than in front of it and it was stolen when he went to find it. Reportedly by a flight attendant, who then knows nothing about where it went when they land. Filed claims, talked with very unfriendly representatives, to no avail. "Carry ons are not covered." Okay, then what about taking responsibility for your staff who apparently take items and then do not know where they are? 2- Always late. I have had delays, delays, delays with AA. I know that's the nature of the business, but I do not experience this many delays with Southwest. 3- Horrible aircrafts for smaller flights. I fly back and forth from Cleveland a lot and always have those tiny airplanes with three seats total, 1 row of 1 and 1 row of 2. These tiny aircrafts NEED TO BE SERVICED TOO. Extreme turbulence and the plane was moaning and groaning and ricketing like it was about to fall apart in mid-air. My heart was racing and I was actually praying that we wouldn't die. I know smaller planes are prone to more turbulence, but I have been on my fair share, and never did they make those kind of moaning and groaning noises before, nor did they let so much cold air in the cabin. 4- Rude customer service. At the checking desk, on the plane. Nobody has ever seemed enthusiastic to be there or help/. 5- Prices and policies. Not the cheapest flight, especially because you pay for bags (Southwest never makes you do that). Also if you lock into basic economy you can't upgrade or change, even if you want to pay more. Really stupid rules regarding basic economy and if you do select BE, you pay a fortune anyways and are literally patronized for being poor- different color on your Apple wallet with large notifications about your restrictions, emails about YOU WILL BE THE VERY LAST TO BOARD, EVERYONE ELSE BEFORE YOU, PEASANT.. Just not a great experience. I will take my business back to Southwest, Old Faithful, where there is always quality service, safe serviced planes, few delays, free checked bags, flexible rescheduling, no patronizing, and low prices. read more

I was supposed to be at my destination yesterday. Instead I sat hours on runways, from laguardia to Chicago, broken planes, over night layover. Horrible! The airline stuerdis forced me to place my backpack under the chair in front of me. This even after I informed I only brought one bag on board. She insisted that those with roller boards seemed to have a priority over my bag. Why did I pay $30 to check my bag and then have no room for my feet. Whatever policy she is following is flawed and those with only one carry on should not be penalized. Flight AA4187, Oct 6, 2019 read more

Would be a ZERO star if possible. A first class passenger who was made to miss a flight because of the ATTENDANTS WORKING THE GATE. Then they all left us stranded, refused to help us find an employee, refused to put us up in a hotel and just said we were at fault because of their negligence on time and their plane being delayed. Primarily JACK in "management" as well as fate personnel who are lucky we dont have their names. NEVER PAY FOR THIS AIRLINE OR THESE FLIGHTS. WHAT A JOKE!!!!!!!! read more

To start, I fly American airlines for 90% of my frequent travels. Never had a problem before. Boarding a flight to Denver today has me changing which airline I will fly on in the future. Several passengers at the gate were told the luggage spaces were full and we needed to check our bags and not allowed to bring them in cabin (for reference both my partner and my bag are TSA regulation size soft sided duffel bags.) We were then forced to check our carry on bags, as an attendant at the gate (not on plane) repeated the cabin was full of luggage. She proceeded to tell us that if every passenger brings a TSA size "carry on" size bag then there is not enough room for all the bags. She then said our bags were not carry on size which was a bold lie. She was rude and dismissive to us and other passengers. There were about 15 of us forced to check our bags. This experience has left me confused and frustrated and seeking other airlines to fly because we were lied to and treated disrespectfully for no reason. As you can see in the pictures - there was more than enough space for our bags and everyone who was denied. I counted at least 20 spaces with no overhead luggage in the spaces walking to my seat. If my bags get lost and I arrive in Colorado with no clothing, I will never fly American ever again. With an airBUS that continously squeezes more and more people in like sardines so A.A. gets paid - but risks their passengers' vacations & property with rude customer service & falsifications, is garbage in my book and anyone reading should look elsewhere to fly. I wrote to American Airlines customer relations in good faith, without displaying the anger I truly have for your airlines.  I received a response that references how American airlines is not responsible for delays and cancelations due to weather, which my cancelation (s) were not.  I can understand how a gate agent can believe that flight crews would arrive prior to a scheduled departure and then be surprise when a flight is canceled at the time of boarding, but Customer relations knows the truth and they choose to blame the weather. Our original flight (AA3090) on Monday August 2, 2021 from CHS to ORD was not canceled because of weather. Our flight (AA689) from CLT to ORD on Monday August 2, 2021 was also not canceled because of weather.  They didn't let the facts get in the way of their automated response because I understand that my business is not important to American Airlines.  In the future, I will purchase tickets on American Airlines, but only if the savings are significant.  I will not purchase any tickets for work related travel and I will not allow any of my employees to utilize American Airlines for their travel. Don't get stranded flying American! read more

Terrible customer service. Flight was delayed.... Switched transfer flight three times because original had a delay. Booked aisle seat on original flight. All three altered flights after were delayed also. Wound up finding a much later connecting flight....the wouldn't refund, give credit and even worse would not acknowledge my aisle seat.l during all theses changes that were their fault, not mine! This was their error; they should accommodate appropriately. I will Never ever fly American Airlines again!! I'm disappointed in the way American Airlines has been handling my lost baggage. I was on my way to Chicago from Phoenix and had a layover in Austin when my bag got left behind during the layover. My luggage had to go from Austin to Dallas then to Chicago. I am currently without any clothes or any of my belongings and the airline has failed to communicate with me throughout this entire situation. My luggage was scheduled to be delivered to my hotel at 1pm and it is now 3pm and I am still without my luggage or any communication from the driver. Wish I would have read reviews before buying our tix. However, like the reviews, I've had the same experience on both my ride to and from destinations. Delayed, extreme turbulence due to small/old plane, gate changes, unfriendly flight attendants, extended amounts of time on the tarmac. It was just a mess. I've never thought Southwest was a superior airline but it seems muchhh better than this. Something about both trips made me feel uneasy for the entire ride, I honestly think it had more to do with the flight attendants not being reassuring or transparent about what was going on, than anything else. All in all, spend a few extra bucks on another airline. read more

The flights themselves are fine, so I am sorry to be writing this review, but the website, the software, and the policies are horrible. We have been flying AA for years, but in the last year or two, the organization has become atrocious--greedy, unresponsive, and customer unfriendly to the max. As an another reviewer commented, the software snafus are in fact being used to rip off the customers. Case in point: the website made it difficult to carry out two operations at the same time--enter travel credit for partial payment and edit credit card information to update it--so we found the payment did not include the travel credit and we had to cancel the reservation. And then, trying to re-book the flight 5 minutes later with a customer-service rep who miraculously was reached by phone-- Lo and Behold! the price got jerked up $172--in other words, we were going to be charged $172 more because their site was so inadequate in the first place. That day it was in fact difficult to login at all to AA. Hire a NEW QUALITY-CONTROL manager, fix your website, answer a phone call in less than 2 hours (no, let me be reasonable, I will settle for your calling back in 2 hours as you claim you will)...and maybe we will be your customers again.... read more

So once again, American Airlines lives up to it's reputation as one of the worst airlines in the worlds. (Google it, I'm not kidding!) Scheduled maintenance and keeping their planes in service don't appear to be a priority. AA is making huge profits with exorbitant fares and the passengers are getting served up some of the worst service imaginable. Come on American, use some of those obscene profits to start a legitimate fleet replacement program! Also, perhaps giving your employees better compensation would be helpful in changing one of most poorly run airlines to one the best run airlines! read more

Like all the other AA Flagship Lounge locations, this lounge makes for a very pleasant stop before or after your international long haul flight. It is a significant step above the Admirals Club, so do check it out if you're eligible (either via ticket class or airline status). The lounge is reasonably large. Not MIA-level huge, but perfectly sized for everyone to have a seat and an acceptable amount of space to themselves. Both sofas, tables, and counter seating are all available. Outlets are everywhere, and work well. I find the food at the Flagship Lounges to be far better than what AA serves on board (different story if you're flying a partner airline like Qatar, though), so I much prefer to eat at the lounge rather than on my flight if I'm flying AA. We were around for dinner service, and they had Carolina pulled pork sliders, PEI mussels, paella, and ravioli on offer for entrees. Yum! For drinks, we just grabbed a couple of beers from Chicago breweries (the beer fridge is well-stocked), and enjoyed those. Overall, this was a pleasant place to kill a couple of hours between our international and domestic legs. I would not hesitate to visit again. read more

When I made the reservation I was told as long as we had ID cards we did not have to pay for bags and to tell my husband thank you for his service. we get to the airport and the man who was helping us told me we do have to pay, only for military people on orders. He was so RUDE! I asked for a manager, she states that was their policy! I told her that I had called to verify and was told differently, needless to say, I had to pay full price for the bags and when we arrived in San Diego my brand new bag was destroyed!! Wow what a coincidence !! My bag was the only one on the flight that was destroyed !! Now it has been 10 months and 3 trips back to the airport and countless hours trying to get them to replace my bag... not give me some generic piece of luggage!! I still do not have a suit case and I am really mad!! They offered to send me a minimal amount of money for my bag!! It is crazy! They have no customer service number for baggage problems so to get it handled you have to drive in to the airport because the on line system doesn't work either. As most of you know, American Air and Us Air are merging into a giant conglomerate of Suck. Here's how I imagine those talks went: AA CEO: "Despite trying our best, we seem to have run out of ways to inconvenience and screw over our passengers." US Air CEO: "I know, right? I mean, we're pretty terrible but I feel like we could be even worse." AA CEO: "Man, what are we gonna do? Even though most of our flights are delayed, our employees are rude and our planes are filthy, people keep flying with us." US Air CEO: "I know it's a crazy idea but what if...we merged? With your terrible operations management and our outdated equipment we'd be the worst airline to exist...EVER!" (CEOs lock eyes, proceed to make out, shareholders applaud) Fast Forward: (Voiceover by the guy who used to do the intro on Dukes of Hazzard) "Well, their crazy plan ended up working out...those two ol' boys outsmarted Boss Hogg, the FAA and they both got huge raises. Just another day in Hazzard County" Seriously though - AA can eat a giant bag of flaming dicks. I had four flight segments over two days - three were significantly delayed due to gate mismanagement, lack of ramp crews and my favorite - inability to get fuel. Is AA not paying their bills? Ok, American Airlines, you've proved that your customer service department is on top of it! Two days after I submitted my complaint via the website, I got a gracious and personal email, apologizing for the inconvenience of the grounding of my flight, the overnight stay, the taxi fare that I had to shell out on my own, and then the late departure the morning after as well. Plus, they compensated me in miles (I'm a frequent flyer) in a very nice way. Plus, they told me to have my friend who was flying with me submit a separate complaint, referring back to my file number, and they would apologize separately. Which they did, and in a generous way also, with a flight credit (he is not a frequent flyer). I'm going to submit my taxi receipt and once I get reimbursement on that, I will raise my stars and write an update! But as of now, I'm infinitely more impressed with them than I was a few days ago. Update: a few weeks later I got an email confirming that they received my claim - meaning, my receipt submittal. And sure enough, about a week after that, I got a check in the mail for the entire amount of my taxi fare expenditure, including the tip that I gave the driver (the dollar amount was itemized on the taxi receipt). So yes, it was a definite pain in the butt to have our flight grounded in the first place, but in this case I do feel like AA took care of me and my friend appropriately. My original review was 1-star, but excellent customer service really raised this to the 4 stars that I'm now giving them. read more

Honestly disappointed. I was able to bring my medical device on the way here in my carryon. I had a 2 day trip so it was a light bag. I thought to expand the suitcase so it would have more room and not get damaged on the flight back. On the way here I was able to bring my carry on no problem as it was packed. Now they insist it has to be checked bc I expanded it but I said I could zip it back up and was told no too late. They pulled me out from boarding to get bag checked in. I told them I can't check in the device it has to be carried on so I unzip my bag to pull it out and hand carry. They still wouldn't let me carry on my bag since it's now much smaller. I'm super irritated bc I have a connecting flight and this was the 5am flight out and I was hoping it would be a light flight but nope. Lots of people on standby so the flight is packed. Wish I had changed tickets when i had the chance. I want to add that I paid extra for the upgrade seating on my flights back and early boarding. Wasn't worth it. Got to the airport early just to be pulled out of line to unpack my medical device and then packed in like a can of sardines. Yuck! read more

My fave is that if you have an issue you literally cannot SPEAK to a person. You cannot. You must email. Great customer service from the get go. I used to be platinum, many moons ago. I am in row 25 so when they get to me they are not only out the sandwich I wanted, they are out of EVERYTHING...then I am told they left the ground with FIVE sandwiches. How does one do that on a flight with 180 people? Not sure. Way back I am in luck...they have an $11 sandwich, that comes with a cookie. For $11 I want that cookie but guess what? You got it..cookie-less. All seems trite but you don't want to be around me when I am hungry. read more

Great terminal - 3, close to Frontera grill (ha!) and Starbucks. Nice views all around. Seemingly always on time and I've never had any long delays. Friendly staff and I'm really enjoying the newer planes (737). I've been treated in a courteous manner in every way. Flying to Japan is really convenient as well, no need to go to the international terminal. I've never had my luggage lost or delayed. I've also never experienced anything that frightened me during a landing or while in flight. I once flew to Vegas and the flight attendant was my former neighbor (her son just got drafted by the NHL, so she probably retired). I look forward to coming to the airport because of AA.
