An absolute disgrace of how American Airlines handles the handicapped at O'Hare Airport. I was dropped at door 3D which has wheelchair assistance. Upon arriving, I asked the American Airlines employee where do I go for wheelchair assistance, he told to stand in line, the counter was labeled Special Services but people with children were being served at this counter. I had to stand up for over 12 mins, until I was seated in a wheelchair. It was incredibly painful for me to stand up for that long. American Airlines to have a dedicated Special Services Assistant expediting the handicapped passengers, for them to receive their tickets, their baggage checked and most importantly to be seated in a wheelchair. read more

We recently were flying with a discount carrier and had a 4 hour delay on the outbound flight, and then an over 16 hour delay on the return flight. These delays seemed to be completely on the carrier(staffing, logistics, and maintenance), so we asked for a refund on the return flight and booked an AA flight home. It was amazing to be treated so nicely, and that everything was on time, even early getting in! I was thrilled for the change in experience!! read more

I upgraded to first class on my flight from ROC to ORD. All I got was juice in a glass, two premium snacks and a bigger seat. Complimentary booze was the incentive and they were charging for it. Flew from ORD to STL and the captain was late for the flight! How does this happen??? This was a late flight to start and this poor planning just makes it worse. I was shocked that I have not reviewed American Airlines, in spite of flying with the airline back in 2022. Anyway, I appreciated the flight detail confirmation text and email leading up to my flight with this airline. The confirmations not only reminded me of the actual time of my flight but when I could check-in as well. Noted from previous flights, I downloaded the mobile application which provided me with leeway prior to my arrival to Chicago O'Hare International Airport (ORD). As someone who had just a carry-on bag with me, the mobile application allowed me to check-in ahead of time and head straight to TSA rather than to see an American Airlines agent. As for my airport experience, TSA was expectedly crowded, but the line moved at a very acceptable pace. One thing I loved was that TSA personnel were in good spirits which reflected onto the individuals going through security checks. The only things I removed were my shoes, my jacket, necklace, laptop, and my obsidian bracelet placing either of those items inside the bin, or inside of my jacket pocket or in my carry-on bag. The American Airlines gate appeared very professional in comparison to other airlines I have flown out of. Amidst the boarding process, I adored how the mobile application showed a boarding countdown which I felt would have been beneficial if I were not near the gate. Now, the boarding process felt painful for this flight. And not to mention, I was part of boarding group 9 which made the wait feel excruciating. While onboard the flight, I relaxed since the flight was short from Chicago, Illinois to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The communication I had with the flight attendants was the boarding flight hello, as they gave out drinks and snacks, and the airplane departure goodbye greeting. Lastly, as for the airplane interior, I loved that the seat was spacious enough to where I could adjust myself while seated. I had an acceptable amount of foot space to where my military-style backpack could fit underneath the seat in front of me. And it was great to have a USB and charging outlet within the seat because I dread having a near dead phone prior to arriving at my destination. In closing, I am well open to choosing and recommending American Airlines to a friend, relative or colleague after this experience. If I could give American Airlines zero stars, I would. What we experienced at O'Hare was one of the worst displays of customer neglect I have ever seen from any airline. My travel companion and I, both elderly, had already been traveling nearly 20 hours when American Airlines began a chain of rolling delays that stretched almost six hours with no real communication, no guidance, and no honesty. Then, just before 1 AM, they abruptly canceled the flight and abandoned everyone. No hotel vouchers. No meal vouchers. No rebooking assistance. Nothing. Every nearby hotel was full, and American Airlines left us, exhausted seniors. to sleep on the floor of O'Hare Airport. The staff showed no concern and took no responsibility for the hardship they created. To make matters even worse, we had originally booked business class, yet when they rebooked us the next morning, they downgraded us to main cabin. And now American Airlines is refusing to refund the fare difference, even though the downgrade was involuntary and entirely due to their own operational failure. I could not complain about my AA flight at all. My KTN was not showing on my boarding pass so I went to the counter and the staff easily changed it and printed me a pass. They also took my checked bag and loaded it on the conveyor belt so I didn't have to drop it off. The flight boarded on time, it was a smooth flight and thankfully no passenger drama. I was pleasantly surprised by a dish of warmed nuts with my Diet Coke. I was served a baked chicken lunch (I thought the days of airline food were over). My disabled adult daughter just traveled to the UK, and we had wheelchair service. Unfortunately, she missed her flight over several delays due to ice issues. It was a scary situation for someone with a disability and made me feel helpless. I had no worries, because America Airlines was kind, helpful, and provided the best customer service. They provided her with a hotel room and everyone she encountered showed genuine concern and compassion. One example was the fact she forgot her phone charger at home and it made her have a panic attack thinking she would have no way to call home. Second time American Airlines wrecked my luggage, and this is what loyal customers get (flying 2-3 times a month). I reported the damage, staff inspected it, and I followed every instruction, yet they still told me to ship it (voiding my warranty) and then come BACK to the airport for another inspection. The repair was covered by my warranty, but my time, effort, and sanity were completely ignored. The whole process was chaotic and clearly designed to make customers suffer instead of actually solving anything. Absolutely unacceptable -- twice now. Don't lie to customers and tell them their flight will take off every 15 mins when on the runway for 3 hours straight stating mechanical issues. Don't continue to lie every 15 mins for 8 hours straight and completely take an entire day off of our couples trip. On the flight back they continued to lie to us every 15 mins for an hour that we would take off on the runway stating mechanical issues AGAIN!!!!! The planes were the smaller planes I've ever encountered. They don't tell you they are small until you get your boarding pass. I'm 6ft 2 and my husband is 6ft 6. Imagine being stuck!!!!! After a couple of days I called American hoping to reconcile. They said they can't take complaints over the phone but gave me a website. I filled out a form stating what happened and all they sent me was a survey asking about their service. Customer Service: 0 Ambiance: 1 (for the gate's tidiness) Overall Experience: 1 (I would give a 0 if I could and I never do that) We had an unfortunately unpleasant visit at this American Airlines in ORD (Flight ORD to CID, American Airlines, Flight AA3763, Gate G6, on Jan 9, 2025, 9:20AM boarding, 9:50AM take off). The flight attendant announcer (female, whose name I will not disclose) told my cousin that she needed to zip up her luggage extender. My cousin apologized and tried to get back out of line to help us help our elderly moms who had language barriers and were limping to zip up their bags, too. The announcer lady gave my cousin attitude and said she was in the way while not making any space for her to actually move out of the way of the line and into the open space where we were on the ground, zipping up the bags. The lady said she told us to zip up our luggage extenders via the announcements. We let her know that the speaker was cutting in and out, and that we couldn't hear her (other passengers couldn't either), but she continued to aggressively tell us it was our fault for not listening closer. I understand that it may have been a stressful situation for the lady, but we just asked her to please not be rude and mean about it because it's been hard and our grandpa had just passed away on New Years. She proceeded to yell, lean over the counter, and ask us who was being rude. My other cousin asked her to please be more professional. She then threateningly asked if we wanted to still be on this flight, and she and her coworker threatened to call security. Her coworker also tried to rip my cousin's phone out of her hand to make sure she didn't take a photo or video. I was extremely disappointed that the attendants escalated the situation so much instead of trying to de-escalate and just listen to us when we said the mic was cutting in and out. It's an important technical issue that needs to be resolved for future flights, too. It was extremely unprofessional and the situation did not need to escalate like that over a technical issue that we did not even blame her for. People should try to come to a resolution when there is an issue, not react by abusing their power. Other passengers did not want to say anything because they also didn't want to be treated like that, but they looked on in sympathy and also did not have their luggage extenders zipped up because they couldn't hear her either. I usually have no problems with American Airlines and their quality of service. This time, it was a very emotionally distressing situation and I kept quiet due to fear of being treated any worse. We were on an American Airlines flight from San Diego on the 25th February at 1:30 PM. I have flown American for 45 years and they continue to get worse. On a better than 4 hour flight we saw the flight attendant once. The best they could offer is a cookie. I would have thought they would offer food for purchase. Had a return trip from Hilton Head Island that is every travelers nightmare. Flight from HH was delayed causing us angst we would miss our connection in Charlotte. Even after Flight 3457 arrived and we were finally boarded, we sat there for at least 1/2 hour while they did "paperwork" to allow us to leave?*&^% What?? Shouldn't that have already been done? And since 1st was already full when we booked, we got to sit there and watch all those people enjoy their preflight beverages, when we were told there was no time for service in the main cabin. Relaxed when we got to Charlotte and found our Dayton connection was delayed and we hadn't missed it. And several more delays and gate changes we finally took off. But first we were informed that no 1st class preflight beverages would be served so we could board faster. I know...white bread problems, but we deserved that drink after all our waits. Right??? And before we were even offered a drink, they loaded up the main cabin cart and got it on it's way. Except for the woman across from us who got her wine on takeoff because she knew the attendant...even hugged her and said she loved her. This was flight 5349. It was midnight and I'm getting cranky. Can you tell. WTH did we pay for 1st??? Finally got our drinks, and then they were collected before we could even finish because there "might be turbalence." There wasn't. Baggage claim and no bags. When we went to report found out they arrived before we did. It's after 1 pm now and we're finally headed down the highway. I had a very disappointing experience with two American Airlines employees, Kevin Machuca and Yaara Ortiz. Their behavior was extremely unprofessional, rude, and intimidating. Instead of providing customer service, they acted as if they could do whatever they wanted, showing no willingness to assist or resolve issues that could have been handled easily.THEY THINK THAT THEY OWN THE AIRLINE. The 45 minute cut off for taking bags was a bit of a change from when I used to fly Delta exclusively, but it's not that big of a deal. The crew working for AA does a good job of keeping the customers moving and getting them on their way. They are literally the worst, also they sent our bags back to our hometown and told us nothing was going out until Saturday. Purchased a package thru Priceline (hotel & airfare) to Montego Bay in April of 2026. After Jamaica was hit by the hurricane, my resort was damaged, however it was due to open February of 2026. However the hyatt sent out notice in December 2026. I contacted Priceline to notify them to cancel my package. After Priceline fif sum investigation, they did cancel the package. The package i purchased was non-refundable, however because of the special circumstances, they canceled it for me. Unbeknownst to me, it was no longer a package deal. It was 2 separate transactions. Hotel and airfare. The hotel portion was canceled and refunded, not by a credit but back to my credit card. American airlines rejected my requested for a refund and instead wants to give me a credit. Because I purchased this as a package deal, if the package was canceled by Priceline and refunded, the ENTIRE package should be canceled. I normally don't fly American Airlines due to all the fees you have to pay. And it prohibits me from rebooting for a package deal. I do not want a credit and due to the trip being canceled under special circumstances, I should be refunded. Not only that, but I would have to use the credits within the next 12 months. So I am also being forced to rebook my trip. If the hotel I wanted to stay at doesn't open till the end of the year, of i rebook, I would loose the $1300 credit! And i do not know if the next package i find will include American airlines. Whatever carrier comes with the package, that is who i will fly. It should of been made clear that this indeed was not a package deal and I was purchasing it separately. I just want to be refunded instead of being held prisoner to "have" to use American airlines. Again due to the special circumstances, I would think AA would be a little more flexible than they have been. Then they want to charge me additional fees to rebook and make changes for the tickets because of something I had no control over. Please help. Received no help. BBB was no help. Today I took a flight on American Airlines with whom I fly often. On the plane was a child who was under the care of the flight attendants. He was going from his mom's in Charlotte to see his dad in Milwaukee for Xmas. While one attendant was kind to him the other sat across the aisle from him (behind me) and was cussing like a drunken sailer. What's more the child repeatedly tried to ask the flight attended (at ONE point) "how much longer" and was ignored by this woman! I had to open my app and tell the child how long was left to make him comfortable. If not bad enough, she was bragging to her coworker about the credit card fraud SHE is doing while also being the voice (and pushing) the airline's credit card. The whole thing was sickening! What frustrates me more is no one at the airport was available to hear my concern and the customer service line I waited on hold for 40 min (to report) had no path to help me to address this concern. I had a flight that was already upgraded, and not only was that upgrade taken away, but I was also rebooked all the way at the back of the plane. They claim the ticket wasn't purchased in time, and that's supposedly the reason they removed the upgrade. What's most frustrating is that they don't even try to help with the issue at hand--they just look for excuses to justify their mistakes and shift the blame onto the passengers. American Airlines has me absolutely APPALLED at the way my disabled son was treated. We were going on a trip for Thanksgiving to visit family and specifically ordered the wheelchair service for EVERY airport we stopped at. I do not have an adaptive stroller for him yet, as they are expensive, so I figured this would be our best option. My son is 4 years old and is nonverbal autistic, as well as having a rare genetic condition called Tuberous Sclerosis, and epilepsy due to tumors in his brain. He can't walk long distances, and he's a very large 4 year old(50lbs), so carrying him around with all our luggage was not an option for me. We arrived at our layover in Chicago O'Hare International Airport Airport with no wheelchair in sight. I asked the people right at the bottom of the jet bridge about my sons wheelchair, where they told me the one they had was for an elderly lady, and that I must go up to the gate to request a wheelchair. Already ridiculous, as I'm the only one carrying my son and all of our stuff, and he wasn't ready to walk. So I get us up to the gate, slowly but surely. There I ask the lady at the desk about where my sons wheelchair is at. She states she will call for one. Another employee shows up with a wheelchair, which I assumed was for my son. I walked up to them and went to grab the wheelchair to put my son in, so I could get him to the bathroom to change his diaper, and go grab him something to eat. This employee physically YANKED the wheelchair away from me. He stated this was for an "elderly woman who actually needed it." I began to cry because I was in complete shock at this man's behavior. I, again, went to the front desk to ask about a wheelchair, to which she stated she would call again. After about 30 minutes, I still hadn't heard anything about a wheelchair for my son. I had no choice but to carry him to the bathroom. When we got back to the gate from the bathroom, still nothing. I spoke to the lady at the desk for the 3rd time, stating I need to speak to a supervisor immediately to which she says "I'll call them once I finish what I am doing." Another 30 minutes goes by. My son is getting angry and frustrated at this point because he is hungry and I cannot bring myself to continue carrying everything around. I see an employee walking by with an empty wheelchair. At this point I'm so frustrated for my son that I am just bawling my eyes out trying to explain to her how we have been treated. She states she's on break, but is willing to at least help us get to mcdonalds to get my son some food. She brought us back to the gate and said she was sorry but she had to take the wheelchair. At this point I am angry. I ask the woman at the desk again about a supervisor and she says she will call now. We still have about 2 hours left of this layover so if I need to take him anywhere else, I'm basically SOL. I happen to see a wheelchair nearby, unoccupied, with no employees around. I decided to just take it because I was tired of waiting for what seemed was never coming. They ended up changing our gate 3 times and we were delayed by hours. If I hadn't taken it upon myself to get that wheelchair, what would I have done? Tried to carry my disabled child and our bags all across the biggest airport multiple times? I am absolutely livid with how my son was discriminated against due to his age. As if children can't have disabilities. The supervisor never showed up. Surprise, surprise. The reason I am making this post, is in hopes that American Airlines Center and Chicago O'hare sees it and can take accountability for the way my son was treated. I am my sons voice.
