I had the most horrific flight possible on American Airlines recently. I had booked a flight with 2 layovers which was fine, I was prepared for that, but wearing a mask from 5 am Central time to 8:03 pm Pacific time was a challenge. On the flight from Chicago. IL to Dallas Fort Worth, TX it was fine because when I was not getting enough air the flight attendant moved me to a row that was empty. She was very nice. On the flight from Dallas Fort Worth, TX to Palm Springs, CA, was anything but pleasant. When I arrived at the gate to fly out of Dallas Fort Worth, TX I went to the counter and asked the attendant if there were passengers on either side of me and he said yes. I explained what had happened on the flight from Chicago. IL to Dallas Fort Worth, TX regarding air flow and he rudely responded that there was nothing he could do. Finally after some talking he found me a seat in the very last row of the plane by the window. I had people all around me and we tried to get the overhead air vents to blow on me but we weren't successful. I was getting very anxious which didn't help the air flow around me and I asked the flight attendant if it was possible he could move me to an isle seat and none were available. Thank goodness the lady in front of me had a small hand fan for me to use for awhile and the wonderful couple that sat next to me told me they would change seats with me because they could see I was anxious. Even though American Airlines does have good deals, I will never fly with them again. read more

Lied and said overhead was full and there was plenty of room - flight boarded completely and there was still multiple open slots. Attendants didn't allow for us to pay to upgrade seats when there was the possibility. Chad was extremely rude and ignored our requests. Felt like a number instead of an appreciated paying customer... will never be flying American again! read more

The fact airlines have the VERY worst customer service has long been accepted by the flying public, if for no reason other than the lack of competition and reasonable option. American, one of the largest, if not the largest in the U.S. has taken it to new levels. Today in Chicago, American's home and main hub, there was snow and the resulting confusion and delays which always accompanies it. What defined American today, was how it responded. With THOUSANDS of customers impacted and seeking help from American's "customer service" desk in the airport, did American increase the number of staff at the customer service desk? Nope - they kept the same THREE staff there, leading to massive lines, angry fliers, and craptacular offerings. WTF is up AA - why do you treat the public like trash? read more

PREPARATION IS VIP FOR A PLEASANT AA FLIGHT EXPERIENCE To take advantage of the perks any Airline offers a traveler, one should prepare for their flight in advance. Step #1: become a Frequent Flyer member. It doesn't matter if you fly 1-2 times per year, you can always extend your expiring miles. Step #2: Get TSA Pre-Checked, about $85 for 5 years. International pre-check costs a few extra $'s. The pre-check lines are much quicker and the traveler doesn't have to remove their shoes, belt or take out their laptop. Also, I think TSA pre-check staff are a little more friendlier. Step #3, apply for a credit card associated with your favorite airline(s). For a small annual fee, you will get miles each time you make a purchase. My favorite Airline is AA. AA is associated with Barclay's Bank and WOW, you get LOTS of perks. Free 1 bag check for up to 4 traveling companions. If you are going on Vacation with a family of 5, that will save you $30 per bag for a total of $150, basically pays for the annual fee of $95. Another perk, upgraded boarding Group. I fly basic economy and get my seat assignment after I check in. I request an aisle or window and the Agent is very accommodating. When I fly basic Economy my Group boarding number is #9. With the Barclay's Aviator card, I board in Group #5. Step #4: Check flight costs mid-week. Put the flight on hold and then re-check the next day. Often the $$ goes down a few $'s. One thing that some of AA flights offer: on board entertainment. They pass out free ear buds and you can watch a movie, TV show, listen to music or play games at your leisure. However, word is that AA is going to remove these feature from their Domestic flights. AA, PLEASE DO NOT! One final thought, you can have either a really friendly Flight Crew (usually 80% of the time) or a grumpy Flight Crew (20% of the time). Friendly is MUCH better than the grumpy crew. read more

Checking in for my flights home this morning, I asked American Airlines if I could be moved from my 1:05 departure to ORD out of Charlotte to the 2:50 departure because my flight into Charlotte was scheduled to arrive at 12:30, my seat was in the rear of the plane, I had to go from the E concourse to the B concourse and the 2:50 had a lot of available seats. AA would be happy to move me--for $200! So, I "ran" from E to B and I made the 1:05. Not so my bag. My bag was afforded the luxury of taking the 2:50 to ORD. If my bag didn't have to hustle, why did I have to? While waiting for my bag to be delivered, I called American Airlines for an answer. Not only did I not get an answer, when I asked that my baggage fee be refunded, I was told that I'd have to make my request online. Why have a customer service line if they will not provide any? read more

Look, air travel is the worst. Seats are tiny, tray tables often stick or slant at a weird angle and having no control over who sits next to me is also kinda the worst. But American Airlines gives me bigger glasses of soda (and possible the whole can!) than any other airline I've tried when I fly LA to Chicago. Just had a pretty horrible experience trying to book a flight online with American Airlines. Found a good fare, but couldn't get past the passenger information screen on the website. Called in to customer service--waited half an hour to talk to someone--and was ultimately told my browser wasn't supported, even though there was no notification on the site that my browser wasn't supported and there was no information in the errors that indicated my browser wasn't supported. Meanwhile, whatever algorithm they use to jack up prices on flights people are searching for kicks in and jacks up the price. Would they give me the original price I was trying to book on their broken Web site? No, of course not. The only thing they were willing to do is book a flight for me on the phone at the higher fares. Useless. Sometimes you just don't have a choice, but I for one will make every effort never to book with American again. read more

Ok, I'll elaborate. American books me (and my infant) the following schedule: London to Chicago (ORD) 45 minute connection Chicago (ORD to TVC - hometown). FORTY FIVE MINUTES to do the following: deplane a HUGE flight, clear immigration, pick up baggage, recheck baggage, be spit out into arrivals, take an airtrain to doemestic terminal, clear security, run to gate. Seriously American Airlines, you basic fools. 45 minutes!? Are you kidding!? I realized it would be tight -- so we booked it. No bathroom break. No stopping for water. Literally in motion from the moment we heard the ding. So I sprint (with a 9 month old) through all of these hurdles like I'm running a Tough Mudder race or something to show up at the gate literally AS THEY ARE CLOSING THE DOOR. I nearly lost it. But I didn't because my consolation is that I am not an American Airlines employee, easily the most miserable jerks on earth. Here are my thoughts: American KNEW I landed at O'Hare. They knew that flight was slightly delayed by 15 minutes. They likely knew I was VERYCLOSE to the gate when they shut that door. I have been on MANY flights in my life where they make a quick announcement about waiting for "connecting passengers." I am never upset by this. Especially since I arrived to that gate 7 minutes before it would depart and it is a very small plane that is easy to board. Secondly, I hate all these people. Thirdly -- (mind you, it's 220pm) THANK YOU NOT SO MUCH for kindly rebooking me on a flight at 8pm. If you think I am going to sit in O'Hare airport for 6 more hours with his baby after you knowingly abandoned me, you are going to pay for it. SO - I methodically wore enough people down to put me on a United flight leaving at 430pm. This was not easy. I talked to many people who I would coin as "anti-solvers" -- meaning instead of problem solving they actually create more problems. One woman on the phone actually (with a straight face I assume!) told me that she tried to call United but the woman didn't speak English so I wasn't booked on the flight. After requesting to speak to the manager of the manager of the manager I am pretty sure it was about an hour later and I was speaking to the CEO of American Airlines but I didn't care. I was ignited with the motivation of a passenger scorned. And I won. I was on that 430 flight to Traverse City. BUT OH WAIT -- my baby wasn't. Yes, that's right after talking to about 65 people at American they managed to transfer my reservation (that included a lap infant) to United without the infant attached. When the lady at United told me this when I (FINALLY) went to collect my boarding pass to get on that damn flight I looked her straight in the eye and told her she would have to keep him then. She quickly issued him an infant boarding pass. And then reminded me that for "next time" -- I should remember to book a ticket for my baby. I restrained myself, but wanted to scream at the top of my lungs "WHAT IS WRONG WITH EVERYONE IN THIS INDUSTRY!?" Seriously. So we all made it to Traverse City eventually. Of course they (and by THEY I mean my favorite American Airlines) lost my bag and I had to return to the airport the next day to retrieve it, a 1.5 hour roundtrip. Insult to injury, salt cherry on top! Really American, if you can't wait 5 minutes for a connecting passenger -- which creates a ripple effect of Customer Service issues and basically paying to put me on a competitor airplane, I have literally ZERO faith you'll make it out alive. The epitome of what is wrong with the airline industry, from top to bottom. Someone disrupt this whole kit and kaboodle immediately. Basic doesn't even cover it. read more

4.5 hour flight from Chicago/O'hare to San Diego. 2 drink service passings 15+ garbage service passings (no joke) 0 food offered 1 unhappy camper The terminal we left out of was nice and it was a sunny day in the Chi- so there's that. The B and I got emergency exit row seating. I was super pumped about taking what I thought was an oath to help out all the other MFers on the flight should we find ourselves in some sort of peril but to my dismay the "oath" was just me and everyone else in the rows giving a simple acknowledgement... even if that "acknowledgement" is 'kind of' mouthing "meh" to the flight attendant like my 13 year old aisle companion did. Don't worry folks, while that kid listened to his white boy rap at a semi-unreasonable level I was contemplating secure escape routes and a strict children and people who cough on airplanes with their mouths open go last policy. I had yer backs. I also thought I was excited about having a couple extra inches of leg room... until I found out that the exit aisle row people don't get to recline their chairs and that their chairs are actually made to be an acute angle leaning forward. Let me tell you, there are few things that make me more crabby than having to sit in a position where my head is parallel to my knees and not getting anything to eat for 5 hours. I just don't understand how they figured that a flight leaving Chicago at 9am and getting into San Diego almost 5 hours later doesn't need any nourishment. Even Southwest will throw you a friggin' bone with some salted nuts and sometimes a bonus 100 calorie pack of Lorna Doones. Well, not these assholes. Yet, the flight attendants incessantly came around asking for everyone's garbage. Let's see- If you only brought us tiny drinks 2 times in 5 hours, and there was no food provided, then we probably don't need you to scavenge the aisles for trash 500 times. I figured it out though- We were going to CALIFORNIA: land of the 10 cent bottle and can deposit. Those cheap azzes wanted to make s'more scratch off me. I'm giving the 3 stars to Chicago AA only because we had such a horrific experience on the San Diego AA flight and terminal that not having a snack and sitting in a fetal position for 5 hours seems petty. read more

Oh god. This was a really horrible flying experience. I'll break it down. 1) Had a ticket for a scheduled flight at 1pm from ORD to BUF. 2) Come to the airport to find out that the flight was cancelled. They didn't send an email to let me know and no phone call was made. Weather was the reason given, but I heard rumors that they just cancel that 1pm flight if there are not enough seats booked (skies were sunny). 3) They offered a flight the next morning. I pushed and they gave me a ticket to a 5pm flight the same day. They gave me a ticket for seat 13C. 4) The 5pm flight is 2 hours delayed. Finally as it's boarding, they scan my ticket and "duplicate ticket" comes up. 5) They tell me that I'm not actually on that flight (what?! an AA representative gave me a boarding pass and ticket!!!). 6) In the process of shushing me off to talk to the manager, they let 4 people who are on stand by in in lieu of me, despite me having an actual printed boarding pass. Maybe they are AAdvantage members or something. 7) They then put me on a 9:45pm flight that day, I get home fine, albeit at 2am instead of 3pm like originally planned. No apology was offered. I've NEVER had an experience where I had an actual boarding ticket, but yet was refused boarding. That was embarrassing, ridiculous and plainly just f***ed up. AA? Nope, no thank you. read more

I am writing regarding an AA flight I was on last week. The flight was 1017 from Charlotte to ORD. The flight was delayed for about 5 hours due to "mechanical" issues. The real issue was the lack of communication from AA. It was like death by 1000 cuts. The message from AA was "30 more minutes". After about 5 of those updates all faith in AA was lost. I will avoid flying American at all costs (OK that's not really true. If it's cheaper, I will fly American but will not check a bag - they don't deserve any more of my cash). Like Ray Pruit they just keep letting me down and I, Donna Martin, keep coming back for more: Example 1: Flying back from Reno, we got stuck overnight in Dallas with rude customer service people and a food voucher for $5 (what would that by me - a bottled water) when all food places that took said voucher were closed. An AA rep told me I couldn't retrieve my checked luggage but when I went to get a cab, there was my luggage on the carousel - luckily I have ugly turquoise luggage! Example 2: I was reading a Maxim magazine on the plane and a flight attendant made me put it away because there were "children on the plane". These children were NOT near me. It was the afternoon. Need I say more? Example 3: On my way back from Dallas to Chicago, I asked for a bloody mary. . but they didn't serve those before noon. WHAT? It is an a.m. drink and I had a movie to watch. Funny how on the way from Chicago to DFW we were able to order at 7 a.m. . . . I could go on and on but really, what's the point. Wish there was less than 1 star..... This trip has been one AA fubar after another. Now the computers are down. Backstory- left SNA on Monday. Plane had bathroom issues. Makes for a long flight to Dallas. In Dallas, leave gate 30 mins late, sit on tarmac for over an hour. No food or drink served except to business class, until we hit the 1 hr mark. But 10 mins later gotta clean it up cause we're taking off....after taking trash (full cups of water we just received) pilot "oh we're going to have to wait a while". Get to charlotte late and have 20 mins to RUN from terminal B to E. Only to find out plane is being worked on. Still starving so on my way to get something they announce we're boarding so I forgo the food and go back to be told we're are in fact boarding but no working bathroom on the plane. Argh! Heading home today....leave Lynchburg Va on time get to Charlotte. Now have 30 mins to make it to terminal B from E. Get in long line to board which is already on group 3. During the flight drinks were finally offered 30mins before landing in Chicago. And of course since it's less than a 2 hour flight no food available for purchase. AA you really need to get your S&$t together. I'm sure you'll blame the FAA or something but you set the stupid 1 hour layovers knowing full well the government can barley get your planes a window to takeoff and land on time. Thereby making your PAYING customers run from terminal to terminal -hungry and with little to no access to restrooms. ***edit Flight was delayed to 1215 because of the computer issues. Boarded at 12. 12:40 now and still sitting at the gate with plane door open watching ground crew going in and out of cockpit. Captain hasn't bothered to inform us of anything. So many reasons to fly union. And American has one of the best unions around. The two best for me, as a recovering nervous flyer: 1. They don't outsource maintenance. 2. Pilots aren't bullied into taking a plane they're not comfortable flying. Add to that the fact that I usually meet the pilots, who without fail have been professional, seasoned, and friendly. And the flight crews strike the right chord for me --really on the same three counts as the pilots. Add to that the very decent stock of aircraft, and the convenience of going, oh, anywhere in the country from Chicago on American, and I'm sold. I'll choose American over any other airline whenever I have the choice. read more

The good stuff: Left on time Arrived on time Food was above average in first class The bad stuff: Reservation agent could not crack a smile if her life depended on it I was told first class does not afford you the right to be over 50lbs and a $50 fee was assessed on my luggage. still no smile.... I asked that a tag be added to the luggage so it comes off the plane first, like they do at United, I was told we do not do that on American? still no smile. When I upgraded on the phone the day before the flight it cost me 30,000 miles round trip, plus a $200 fee to expedite the upgrade due to not calling 7 days in advance. In general, American is what you would call "the best of the worst". They have never lost my bags, never booted me off a flight because of overbooking, never mysteriously cancelled a flight at the last minute. That being said, flying in 2007 is really no better than herding cattle. Passengers are subject to the most demeaning of activities (albeit mostly is the fault of airport security and "Homeland Security"), given practically no rights or perks for that 6am flight to Denver you paid $325 each way for, and are generally treated like miscreants. I really long for the days when people treated flying like a glamorous adventure, got dressed up to fly, were served good tasting meals on china plates, and your kid could get not only a set of wings, but playing cards and maybe even a trip up to the cockpit if they were good. But then again, maybe I just should be glad that they got me to my destination in one piece, pay my $2.50 for a bottle of water and sit down, buckle my seat belt and shut up. read more

I booked a flight last minute and SouthWest airlines was too expensive for a round trip (connecting flights). Therefore, I went ahead and booked one with American Airlines-which was about $100.00 less. So I decided to go ahead and book it. Whomp Whomp, worst mistake EVER. American Airlines as a whole is already dull and boring. 2-3 hour flights no complimentary snacks--just a beverage (soda, water, juice), even asking for extra ice seems to be asking for TOO much depending on the stewardess.No in-flight entertainment like a mini tv to keep you occupied. Small planes, especially those American Eagle ones---so weird. However, the service from American Airlines at O'Hare in Chicago really takes the cake for HORRENDOUS service. Filled with inexperienced workers and are highly unreliable. Recently, I took a connecting flight from Austin and stopped at O'Hare. From O'Hare, I was suppose to fly into Newark NJ with only a 30 minute layover. I patiently waited for a half hour and they began boarding first class passengers. Ten minutes later, the first class passengers began to exit the plane....umm okay??? They then told us there was a small delay and we would be boarding shortly. About an hour later, they completely canceled the flight. No explanation, nothing. However, other airlines were flying out to that destination and in the area so I had no idea what was going on. To top it off, two other plans (both AA) were canceled going into NY and NJ. Myself and the other passengers got on the line and waited for them to re-book us for a different flight, There was a rumor that spread throughout the line saying that there were no more flights available for that night and we would all have to wait until the morning to fly out. I finally got to the front of the line and asked if there were any flights going into NY or NJ-ANYTHING- the girl said no. I asked her if it was possible to send my back on another airline and she said no I asked her to re-check for JFK, Newark and LG. Once again she said there was nothing. I then ask her to check for White Plains, NY. She shook her head no and I asked her if she even checked it. She decided to go ahead and check and sure enough there was room available on a 6pm flight. WHY on earth would I need to ask her to recheck it? Isn't that their job? And when I asked about WP why would she just say no? A woman who was in front of me on the line still standing near me turned to the girl who was helping me and freaked and I do not blame her. "I thought you had NOTHING going into NY at all." The girl looked at her and said, it just came up. I call bull on that--as I said before she didn't even check until I told her to. Luckily she already booked my flight and put me on another flight for standby (which wound up being full) and the woman before me was out of luck. Anyway, I was in the airport for over 8 hours. No reliable place to charge my phone, no way to access my luggage, hardly any money in cash (I accidentally packed my debit card in my suitcase that I checked). I have heard of other airlines at least providing food accommodations for even minor delays, but apparently AA doesn't believe in that. So I was just stuck there. Who I really felt bad for was this one young couple who was traveling to NY from Iowa. They were not able to get a flight back until the morning and the airlines refused to put them in a hotel room for the night. Just hearing that made me beyond mad and it didn't even happen to me! How can this airline expect for people to wait over 24 hours and not pay to accommodate them in any way shape or form?!?! Eventually I got on the plane. I also went from group 1 boarding to group 4 boarding and instead of my seat being near the front of the plane--I was seated in the back near the engine, by the bathroom and the door was broken...that was nice...really. Now- since I was originally suppose to arrive Newark my cab ride home went from being $40 to over a $100.00's. I wrote to AA about my experience and they could have cared less. Overall, it was a nightmare of an experience and I will NEVER use this airline EVER again. Next time, I do not care how much more SouthWest is. Paying the $100.00 would have been worth it to avoid the headache and the stress. read more

(Well, 50K miles and $57 for the fees and taxes, but whatevs!) I love you all so much I could KISS YOU. In fact, I'm surprised April, my booking agent, didn't catch some kissing action from my cell phone to her headset just right now. However, no matter how much I really do love you right now, that does not blind me to the fact that your jets can be kinda old and your drink carts can be kinda painful when they bump into one's shin. * A single person can make a huge difference * Ok, compared to my trip into Chicago a few days earlier (http://www.yelp.com/biz/american-airlines-seattle#hrid:uRoCByYGufTdBUr0WnYRQQ) this trip from Chicago to New York had the potential to be MUCH more of a hassle. But it was saved by a very good flight attendant. The 4 stars are solely for her level of service. There were some very difficult passengers on board this flight, including one woman that refused to sit down in her seat in coach and stood there saying, "I know if I don't sit down you can't leave. And I won't sit down until you upgrade me to first class." The flight attendant handled her extremely well and explained that she would be happy to help her get off the plane and talk to a gate agent, but that she would miss the flight and have to catch a later flight. The woman finally shut up and sat down. I was impressed by how the flight attendant handled it without being rude at all. There were severe weather delays in NY and after we had boarded the plane and taxied out for take off we suddenly found ourselves in the "penalty box" with a hold. The captain got on and said that all 3 NY airports were shut down with a ground hold and that we would have to wait for about an hour to get an update. That same excellent flight attendant jumped up and immediately started serving drinks and warm nuts to keep everyone busy and distracted. After the initial hold the pilot came on again and said the hold was extended. Some of the passengers started getting difficult and demanding information about their connections, etc. The flight attendant diffused the situation with each one of them gracefully. I was really impressed with her handling of the situation. We ended up eventually going back to the gate to get more fuel and the captain made the mistake of opening the door to the jetway. Several of the difficult passengers started to try to get off the plane (pushing and shoving) and the reliable flight attendant diffused the situation once again. Weather happens. It is part of travel. But people can be so unreasonable. I was impressed with how well that single flight attendant handled everyone and calmed the situation down. The other 2 flight attendants were at a loss of what to do and were nowhere near as professional. After the flight finally got underway I ended up chatting with the good flight attendant (and gave her some of those AA appreciation coupons they distribute to Elite level members of the frequent flyer program that let AA employees enter into a drawing to win some prizes). Turns out she used to work international for TWA way back when (back in the days when TWA proudly had a high level of good international service). That explained her level of professionalism, calmness, and ability to deal with difficult passengers. Overall the random thing about airlines like AA is that service is incredibly sporadic, but when you get a good flight attendant they can be excellent because they think clearly, handle situations professionally, and generally make what could be a bad situation much more bearable. All passengers boarded. Plane was fueled up. We waited on the runway with engines powered up for an hour. Then, it's announced that the flight will be delayed another two hours because the plane "doesn't have a pilot." Why does the plan not have a pilot? Did the pilot suddenly call in sick? No. Did they get have an accident, show up drunk? Is their kid in the hospital? No, no, no, no, and no. The airline simply forgot to schedule a pilot. They simply fueled up the plane, seated everyone, turned on the engines and waited an hour before figuring it out. The incompetence of the airline is so extreme that one wonders if we could have been airborne before they realized there was no pilot. Once we were off the plane the delay was upgraded from two to seven hours. For our trouble we were given $12 meal ticket vouchers, which barely covered a wee bit of slop from the only restaurant open that late. And for that we had to stand in line for 30+ minutes. One woman was screaming and crying because she missed her brother's funeral. Others faced being out of a job. There is zero accountability, just an aw-shucks maybe it will be better next time response . Cheaper = not always better. read more

The first time I flew American Airlines, the plane stayed on the tarmac for 12 hours at the Dulles, DC airport and never took off due to bad weather. My mom and I ended up sleeping in the airport and got on a flight the next morning. When I had to flew out to Rhode Island for business, I had no other choice than to fly AA since it was the only airline that flew non-stop to Providence. I brought only a carry-on luggage, but by the time I got to board, there was no room in the overhead lockers. The flight attendants were surly with me when I asked for help and gruffly told me they would have to check in my bag. For my recent trip, we went from LAX to Rome with a stop over in Chicago O'Hare. Both flights used 767 planes which were old and cramped. For the international leg of the trip, alcohol was not free, they didn't have the bag of goodies that included socks, toothbrush and toothpaste, and eye mask, and everyone had to watch the same movie choices on the shared monitor. You can count on missing connections or at best just catching your flight. Since my first review, AA is 100% not delivering on timeliness. If you have to fly this airline and you have a connection, allow at least 2 hours, 3 to be safe because if you have an hour to 1.5 hour layover, you will miss your flight. I will say one thing AA does well... they are really good at apologizing for their failures. My guess is the many hours of practice. Get it right, guys! read more

Just when you thought there was nothing left in the fee box for the airline to charge passengers, the creative "biz dev" guys at American have come up with a new one. I took an early flight from Reagan to O'Hare early this morning with a confirmed ticket to return on an early evening flight back to DC the same day. As it happened, I was done by 2pm and proceeded to the airport. AA has just about a flight every hour or so from Chicago to DC, so I asked about going standby on an earlier flight if a seat is found to be available. Ever done this before? Me too. Maybe 100 times and it has never been an issue before. The reason it became an issue today is effective Feb, 2010 the airline has changed the standby policy to a product they now call "Standby-Confirmed"... With this new product, you can NO longer go standby or get on a standby list. In fact there is no list. Instead, for a $50 fee you will be a "confirmed standby" passenger, which guarantees you the 'standby' seat. Confused? It gets better. I've flown enough to know that if I'm on standby on a flight then im not confirmed on that flight and if i am confirmed, then I'm not on standby for the same flight. What the heck is Standby-Confirmed? Who are they kidding? How many other ways do you want to nickel and dime the public? There already are bogus fees for booking by phone $15, traveling with luggage $20+ aisle or window seats, $15, being heavy $x2, headphones, pillows, blankets and now going "Standby-Confirmed" $50. What's next? $100 surcharge if you want a plane that was serviced in the last year?$75 fee for the first 10 rows of coach? $1 per use of the laveratory? Coin operated tray tables? Can we someday speak to an airline without getting our checkbook out first? I was stuck overnight in Chicago due to my connecting flight being delayed. AA booked me on the next flight, which happened to be much later in the morning but didn't do anything about getting me setup in a hotel. I tried to wait it out but as many other planes finally made it in, the mini homeless city became as crowded as it could be. The airport staff couldn't cart the cots in fast enough. Come to find out once I booked into a local hotel, they told me it is something airlines normally do aka "stressed passenger overnight". read more

I will never fly AA again. It had been 15 years since I flew with them. I remember why I stopped. - Today they cancelled my flight to London 1/2 hr before departure. I finally got rebooked ( thank you Angie) after 20 Minutes on the phone -could not sit me and my husband together -I paid for extra legroom-oh well. "Not any of those seats left on this fight". I customer service to ask about refund for my upgrade -Have not gotten a call back yet-1hour-stay on the line-don't believe them when they say we will call you back in 7 mins. New Idea: An "Airline Holiday" like the "Bank Holidays" that preceded the Depression of 1929. Now, if I were an airline executive faced with an additional $50 - $60 million cash outlay every time the price of oil increases a $1 per barrel, I might find it expedient to align myself with the FAA, quietly, and ground hundreds of flights for safety checks, it being far cheaper to give back ticket money to the customers than to pay the concomitant jet fuel costs when oil is $112 per barrel, as it was yesterday. Hell, the public will buy into the need for safety, but the neither the government nor the airline industry can afford to allow Wall Street to perceive another meltdown in something like the airline industry; the housing mess has been bad enough. Not impressed. One delay due to flight crew on the morning of our coast to coast flight put us in LA for the evening without luggage. Flew to Chicago the next day learned that my bag landed there and not my final destination. Was told I could go get it down at the carousel and recheck but I'd miss my flight. Was also told that if they did find it that it couldn't be delivered until the next day. Really grumpy staff on the flight from Chicago to Ft Myers from the lady at the ticket check in counter to the Jr. Pilot with a couple of stripes on his shoulders. This trip has been a nightmare. Oh and nobody works the customer service booth in LAX next to 42A. When ticket counter people have spare time they service the area. Yesterday after another flight delay there were over 50 people trying to reschedule flights so they could make their final destination. with only one person at the customer service counter. hope I never have to fly American again. read more

I feel very sorry flying from NewYork to Seattle with AA. First, I did paid for a non-stop flight and they end up switching me to a connecting flight with no refund. Second, I asked why the USB port was not working on my seat, the rude flight attendant just told me it is what it is? That was very impolite! Last, the plane landed but ket us on the ground waiting for over 45 minutes. We almost miss out connecting flight by 5 minutes. Half a star! American has gone to the worst of the bigs. Tonight delayed 3 hours sat on plane for an hour waiting to get cleared and last minute flight attendant offered juice when if customer recovery was on their mind they would have performed the service at the begging. Then gate agent a no show in Chicago, yeh your biggest hub, must be hard to find one! No announcement from the pilot and as grumbling escalated as passenger after passenger missed their connection due to sitting at the gate for 25 minutes with no gate agent. Employees across all unions are completely disengaged and could care less about customer recovery let a lone service. Fly Delta do not build your status on American, it means nothing to them! read more
