    Treatment of luggage by American.
    Katherine A.

Wow. Realllllly? I paid to fly first class between Chicago and Indy and my luggage was treated like crap? There was the bright red Priority tag on my luggage, yet it was clearly dragged through a rusty mess. No luggage deserves this treatment. Was it the garbage treatment in O'Hare? I don't know. I'm a A Advantage member with status and I'm not seeing a lot of advantage when my belongings are treated like this. First Class, what a joke! American, what a sad state.

After 3 years of avoiding American Airlines, I unknowingly got stuck with them as my connection to Chicago. Only airline with an hour plus long line at the airport. Sweet.

Get your head above the clouds on American!

Reading through the other reviews, it seems pretty clear that people only write reviews when they have had a bad experience. The thousands of travelers who have no problems, or minimal, don't bother to write about it. The airline did what it was supposed to do. What's to write? My wife made arrangements through American. We had a connecting flight in Dallas that took us to our final destination. We had a connecting flight through Phoenix on the way home. Overall, we had a positive experience. She had handled shopping around for the best deals that would get us to our hotels and when it was time to go, she used one of the kiosks and soon had our boarding passes. We checked our luggage quickly too. I think the only problems we had were due to a problem with the plane in Dallas. They detected a problem and had to bring another plane instead. I was fine since the new plane was 10 seats wide, had onboard charging stations, each seat had its own entertainment screen, and since we were flying to the middle of the Pacific Ocean, the plane was working properly. So glad they didn't take a risk with our safety. Sure, it costs us two hours in Hawaii, but I would rather be alive for the rest of the vacation than take a chance with an improperly working one. Sure, the process of charging for every extra like baggage and full meals adds up quickly, it's the price we drove the airlines to by making the no-frills airlines so popular just to save a buck. It's competition. No sense complaining about it. I don't take a lot of trips, so it is hard to say when I would use American next. But based upon my most recent trip, I would have no trouble flying with them again. Review #2390

Instead of helping passengers, staff seemed more interested in publicly shaming people over bag sizes and carry-on policies. Multiple times, employees used the microphone to call out passengers for having the "wrong" bags in a tone that felt condescending rather than informative. During boarding, staff would interrogate passengers about what type of seat they purchased, as if it somehow justified how they were being treated. The entire process felt hostile and unnecessarily confrontational. I understand that airlines have policies, but there is a respectful way to enforce them. Frontier's staff made customers feel like an inconvenience rather than paying passengers. Traveling is stressful enough without being embarrassed or talked down to in front of a crowd. There are plenty of airlines that manage to enforce rules while still treating people with dignity. Based on this experience, I will not be flying Frontier again and would not recommend it to others.

I was traveling…read morewith the exact baggage allowed: one backpack (smaller than the permitted dimensions), my laptop bag, and a small fabric pouch worn cross-body that contained essential medications -- nitroglycerin, an asthma inhaler, and my pill case -- plus a tiny wallet with my ID. At the gate, an agent aggressively insisted that this small medical pouch counted as a "third bag." I explained calmly what it was and why I needed it, but he gave me two choices: pay for it or throw it away. Those are not choices for a passenger carrying life-saving medication. In the rush, I tried to stuff the pouch into my backpack. The zipper got caught on a piece of clothing and tore. Now the bag would not close properly. They then forced me to put it in the baggage sizer, and because it wasn't closing, I had to literally force it down. When it didn't slide in "easily," they told me to go back, fix it, or pay. At this point my blood pressure was through the roof. I was humiliated, stressed, and nearly missed my flight. In fact, I was the last passenger to board. No passenger should be treated this way, especially over a tiny pouch holding medication that clearly doesn't fall under "excess luggage." The staff was rude, inflexible, and showed zero compassion or common sense. On my return trip, I flew with Spirit -- and the difference was night and day. Friendly, reasonable, and professional. Spirit is now my go-to low-cost airline. Frontier will never see me again.

Our Denver-to-Memphis flight was originally scheduled for 7:05 PM. It was repeatedly delayed to 10:30 PM, then 11:00 PM, then midnight, before eventually being cancelled and rebooked for 5:30 AM the next morning. What I don't understand is the handling of passenger assistance. We were not offered a hotel and meal voucher until approximately 11:20 PM, after spending more than four hours at the airport waiting through repeated delays. By that point, we had very little time to actually get to a hotel, sleep, and return to the airport for a 5:30 AM flight. I understand the airline cannot control the weather. However, it can control communication, contingency planning, and how quickly assistance is provided to stranded passengers. The repeated delays followed by a cancellation, combined with such late hotel and meal assistance, made an already difficult weather situation significantly worse. A 7:05 PM departure effectively became an overnight ordeal and disrupted the following day as well. Very disappointing handling of the situation.

The confirmations not only reminded me of the actual time of my flight, but when I could check-in, as well as delays and gate changes. Three days before my outbound flight back to Chicago, I was informed via text message that my flight had been canceled due to FAA-mandated airspace restrictions during the government shutdown. I reacted immediately, booking a new flight which ended up being an earlier time than the previous. It is situations like that where I appreciate updates because I would not have wanted to find out the day of. Now rather than download the United Airlines mobile application, I visited www.united.com where I was able to check-in for my flight early, as well as send my boarding pass to my phone via text in the process. As someone who had just a carry-on bag with me, it allowed me to head straight to TSA rather than to see a United Airlines agent once I arrived at Indianapolis International Airport. As for my airport experience, TSA was not crowded at all despite it being Indianapolis International Airport. I always dread going through security because of the possibility of congested lines, but all went smoothly! The only things I removed from my body were my jacket, and my bracelets placing each item inside either the bin, or my jacket pocket. After that, I was well on my way to locate the gate. The United Airlines gate was easy to find, thanks to posted signage within the terminal; the gate appeared professional with a very well-maintained seating area in comparison to other airlines I have flown out of. I rarely encounter boarding areas with clean seats and no trash left behind, which is just hard to unsee. I loved that there were charging outlets that worked because it gave me the chance to charge my cell phone before boarding my flight back to Chicago. Whether it be the individual booths or the workstations, I was grateful to see so many areas and seats with charging outlets. Boarding with this airline was very painless! Announcements were made which gave me the time to browse around the terminal prior to the time my boarding group boarded. It was by far one of the best boarding experiences I have ever had out of my many times of flying. I feared that my flight back to Chicago would be delayed, but thankfully it was not. With having to change my flight 3 days ago, I was very concerned and glad that it did not happen. As for the airplane interior, I loved that the seat was spacious enough to where I could adjust myself while seated. I had an acceptable amount of foot space to where my military-style backpack could fit underneath the seat in front of me. There were no charging outlets within my seat, but thankfully I was able to charge my phone prior to boarding the airplane. While onboard the flight, I got some rest during this short flight back to Chicago, which I am grateful for. Onboard, the only communication I had with the flight attendants was the boarding flight hello, and the airplane departure "thank you" and "goodbye" greeting. In closing, I am very open to choosing and recommending United Airlines to a friend, relative or colleague after this experience. Safe travels, and blessings to all that read this review. ~ Good vibes coming your way ~ Thomas G
