AA is no frills, but they get you to and from. Have heard a lot of horror stories, but as they are the worlds largest airline, that's going to happen. This past flight was a good one, and it wasn't the crews fault, some idiot had a drone near Reagan DCA airport. Thanks to this fool, a lot of planes burned up fuel, and a big inconvenience to many. The pilot was golden about keeping us apprised, and a pretty takeoff and butter landing. Nice flight attendants too! Have flown with them domestically and abroad. They aren't an Air France or Emirates, but they get things done. Todays flight was a relative quick hop. They helped me rebook this flight, after a scheduling error on my part. I recently flew into Manchester-Boston Regional Airport on American Airlines - through Philadelphia - as I could not get a direct flight on United from Dulles International Airport to Manchester. The flight up from Philly to Manchester was uneventful. But the trouble started on the way back. We had completed the boarding process for a 5:57 pm departure time. The Captain came on the PA system to inform us that the inspection process had found an "external service panel with missing screws." This would need to be addressed before we could take off. So we sit on the plane - and we wait, and we wait, and we wait for the repair crew to arrive and determine what they need to do. Finally, they show up, and after several updates from the Captain as to our status, we are told at 7:00 pm that the repair is completed and that as soon as the paperwork is completed - we'd push back from the gate in a few minutes. 47 minutes later we prepare to push back from the gate. Either the Captain lied about the status of the repair - or we just experienced the longest paperwork/repair report in the history of aviation maintenance/repair. At this point, the AA gate agent comes aboard to announce that some of us with connections are totally screwed. I had a 48 minute layover in PHL to make my connecting flight to Dulles. There is now no way I will make that flight. She announced the "good news" is that I can take a flight to Washington Reagan or BWI that evening. I don't consider that good news. We sat on the plane for 1 hour, 47 minutes, after boarding, before we took off. So someone at AA botched a previous inspection of the plane - they should have caught this earlier on - because the plane arrived at Manchester Regional without the referenced screws. What happened on the next leg of this flight at PHL later in the evening has me thinking I will never, ever fly on American Airlines ever again! read more

This airline stinks. Had a business trip over New Years Day and they didn't forward my suitcase from Chicago, forcing me to buy clothes for the two days of work. To their credit they ultimately reimbursed me the cost of the extra clothes but you couldn't get anyone on the phone to find out what the status of my suitcase was. Everyone kept 'apologizing' but they didn't honestly care, just those typical phony apologies from someone who just wishes you go away quickly. Then on the return trip, they charged me an overweight suitcase fee because the extra clothes I purchased and they would not refund that, even though the reason for the extra clothes was because of their mistake in the first place. So for a 70 dollar difference, AA decided to sacrifice any future business with their airline. Not sure I trust them to fly me safely when they make poor business decisions like this. read more

A problem with the third-party not informing me that two of my flights were changed and no word was gotten to me. Now I understand that third-party and they don't have to play by the same rules yet I paid for services and I did not get treated properly. The way I was treated by American Airlines today is disgraceful. I arrived at the Manchester NH airport with the carry on bag I have traveled the country with via Southwest and Jet Blue. At the gate they made me check my bag which I did. When I arrived in Philadelphia my bag was confiscated and I was treated like a terrorist because I had an embedded battery in my carry on. I only checked the bag at the AA staff instructions. I was then held at the airport for 2 hours. They took my $500 carry on and threw my belongings in a trash bag. First flight departure @7:30am email from AA @ 4am missed the confirmation deadlines CAUSE I WAS ASLEEP at 4am. Called around 5:30am AA rebooked for a 11:30am departure. Arrive at airport no plane at gate flight delayed again till 1:30pm it's 1:35 just go on the dam plane, it's supposed to be in the dam air! Connecting flight has been pushed back as well all this time hopefully I can still make it with this late take off. Worst experience ever today very little information from AA the whole time. No offer to put me on a different flight with a different airline to at least try and get me to me destination around the time I paid AA to get me there. We are flying on a bereavement flight and because I have a husband who is disabled, I asked for a change because a 40 min connection is not enough time. He can't run to catch a plane if anything happens. Oh yes, you can change, but they'll charge us both $200. Just flew from LAX to Philadelphia in a newly renovated plane with new tiny seats, 10 additional in the main cabin. There is no longer onboard entertainment only on the American entertainment app. We were able to download this app only with the assistance of a stewardess walking us through it on a flight to Dallas two weeks ago. At that time we could watch the high quality movies that had been available with the onboard system. This flight it was a different much downgraded selection. Our flight to Philadelphia was delayed as was our second flight to Manchineel NH. We were 1hr 47 min late arriving at Manchester. The second flight had the old seats which was nice. No more whole cans of soda either. No wonder Forbes rates them 9th of US airlines. read more

When I purchased my tickets I was informed on the online website that I was able to transfer or exhange my flight if needed. Well, plans changed. I contacted the airline to do exactly this and they said to me I could either "use it or lose it" with my ticket. This airline makes money off of misleading people in their product advertisements as well as competing with lowered prices. It's no wonder their call center has over an hour long hold times. By far the worst customer service I have ever received. I am currently pregnant and the wife of a veteran and asked to extend my travel credits till May (they expire in March) and they flat out said no I had more than enough time to use them. However, with the covid cases rising and me wanting to take extra precautions, we simply didn't have the opportunity to use them. My father who was in the exact same situation got his extended another year. But they told me they absolutely do not do that even though we have the email to my father stating otherwise? Awful customer service! They screwed up the 1st flight and made half the plane miss their 2nd flight, refused to reimburse anyone for a hotel and stranded everyone in Chicago. They took no responsibilities and basically told everyone that crap happens and good luck to us. Must I even explain? I drive 3 hours to catch a flight, only to learn it was delayed upon arrival. No big deal, they put me on a different flight so I wouldn't miss my connection. After an hour of sitting (and only about 15 minutes before scheduled boarding) they announce that the new flight is delayed. I then learn they're not sure if the flight will even happen. Traveled with my family round trip Boston to Tampa. Did curbside check in Boston did self service check in on Tampa realized in Tampa that I was being charged $100 per bag. Remember I had 5 tickets each flight. Contacted American got cookie cutter response that my bags were to big. Again charged in Tampa at self device before they were weighed. My review is about American Airlines, not the Manchester, NH office, specifically. Last year, I was given a $622 paper voucher to be redeemed within one year from the issue date. The instructions on the voucher state that one must go to an AA office or call a number to redeem the voucher. I called at 9PM on the deadline with my flight information. I was told - in a patronizing way - that I had to either go to an AA office or mail in the voucher, and since the USPO office was now closed, I was out of luck. I'm sorry, mail in a voucher? In 2017? I informed the AA employee that nowhere on this voucher does it state that one must mail in their voucher and that I had 3-4 conversations with AA over the past month and not one person mentioned this. He reminded me three times that I had a year to redeem this voucher, implying there was fault on my end; I informed him the time span that I had was neither here nor there in relation to this ridiculous situation. Turns out, there's actually no policy on the AA website related to paper vouchers. From what I can tell, they have this overly onerous process to deter customers from using AA vouchers thereby relieving them of their responsibilities. I found an interesting blog called: "How not to redeem AA paper vouchers" so it appears that I'm not alone here. I wasn't a fan of AA before this, but could have easily be swayed away from other bad airlines and AA lost here. read more

I booked my ticket using Flight Hub and flying American Airlines. I usually look at my seat location on line and determine if I should pay for an upgrade. This time I got on line and there was no seat only seats available for upgrade. The upgrade seats were expensive and not in an ideal location. I checked in at the gate to find out my economy fair had restrictions. I could not carry on my bag which had to be checked for $25. I could not change my seat and carry on must go under the seat. The staff at the check in ticket counter were not totally familiar with this new ticket option. I got a decent price for my ticket but had no idea of the restrictions associated with the ticket. Why would anyone select this ticket and be mandated to pay for a checked bag and unable to select a open seat. I will pay closer attention to this in the future. I usually only check bag on a return flight to assure my suit arrives at the destination. If your flying American be sure to check the fair and avoid these restrictions. read more

Worst airline I've ever flown with. They fucked up my flight back in June by cancelling our whole reservation when my husband had just asked to cancel the outgoing flight. I've been fighting the $1,000+ charges from them since June!! They're only solution was 2 $200 evouchers. Not even the cost of ONE of the tickets we had to buy to get back to California from Boston. I spoke with some woman (I won't post her name) who INTERRUPTED me and BERATED me on the phone, telling me I was wrong and she had no interest in listening to what I had to say. This time, I purchased a flight online from BOS to LAX, and used one of the 2 vouchers. It said on the sight that if I wanted to cancel or change my flight I had to within 24 hours to avoid a fee. I called 12 hours after purchasing to move my flight from 9am to 12pm, 2 HOURS, and the woman told me that since it was an old reservation I could not change it. I explained to her I JUST booked it 12 hours ago, and she said since I used a voucher I would have to pay $200 to switch my flight. I explained to her that it was ridiculous and they should be more specific on their website. She was rude and talked over me as well. I'm starting to see a trend with this company, and will be calling to complain AGAIN about them. I've never had a good experience flying with them and I highly doubt I ever will. Worst. Company.
