I've had nothing but good luck with these people. They're local to O.C., so maybe it's that "home town" touch. I know they provide services in other areas, but I only know of my own experience. The alarm they installed is extensive. All kinds of things are monitored on my 2 story home: all windows, all doors, motion sensors, multiple keypads, THE WORKS. All of it backed up by battery power that phones home if there's problems. The keypad has buttons to push, single-button access to Fire, Police, & ambulance. They've always been quick to respond to any service request I've had. I wanted to change configurations, they did it with me on the phone. Alarmed devices show up on the screen of the keypad as to what, if any, were triggered. There's a "home" setting that alarms windows but doesn't go off when the motion detectors are tripped (just don't open a door or window for fresh air). The fire alarm is always active, you don't have to set it: it'll go off if there's noxious smoke detected. It's never gone off with burnt toast or a burnt roast, but let some plastic burn (don't ask) and it goes. I asked for extra yard signs, they sent them. I needed information on some custom settings, their tech support complied without hesitation. When I fell on hard times financially, they even worked with me. I TRIED to find an alarm company, ANY other alarm company that could match or beat their price vs. the service they offered. I could get close, but I couldn't find anybody that matched, let alone beat them. The alarm doesn't robo-dial emergency services if an alarm is tripped, they follow the human-between protocol so you don't get dinged if the Police or Fire are dispatched by an automatic system and there's no actual issue, only a false alarm. With the whole human-between thing, those charges are avoided. I guess it's some peculiarity with monitored alarms. Not only does the alarm phone home to their 24-hour monitored station, it has sirens. I should say SIRENS!!! LOUD SIRENS! Like PAINFULLY LOUD WAKE UP THE NEIGHBORHOOD LOUD SIRENS. I don't know if you can ask that that be toned down. I didn't and don't know if it can. If they go off, EVERYBODY in the neighborhood knows and it'd be pretty hard for an incident to go unnoticed. All in all, super happy with service & with price vs. features+service ratio. I've never met any of the monitoring or support people in person, but they've been very nice & accommodating on the phone. Pricing is better than anyone I could find with comparable service. How they fare with commercial customers I couldn't say, but I have no hesitation recommending them to residential customers. read more

HORRIBLE. Had them for both home and business for over 10 years. Then without notice, their "monitoring" changed. When we signed up, if the alarm tripped, we got a phone call. If we didn't answer, they called the police. NOW, they send a text. End of story. So someone breaks in to my house, stabs me, I don't respond to their text and they say "we tried"? We've since had the alarm go off, not seen their text and that's it. A red light on the control panel. End of story. Well, not the end of story... Try canceling them. All but impossible. The email account we had on file with them was hacked and closed. My wife called 3-4 months ago to cancel and was informed that it had to be done in writing. The rep asked for her new email and said that she would send instructions on how to cancel. Nothing. The bills keep coming. They also want a written reason you want to cancel. Do not use this company. They lied to my HOA and told them I damaged a fire suppression panel and my HOA is trying to charge me $1925 to replace it. I had two separate inspectors look at the panel and both said that there was absolutely nothing wrong with the panel except for the communication system they were trying to use. I signed up with these people 5 years ago and had one issue in the past, but it was resolved. Lately I've had a few break ins where someone smashed my window and the alarm didn't go off. The first time I was furious and they kinda didn't acknowledge what happened or why they just told me it would work. They sent a technician it seemed believable. Well today I found that wasn't true. I had another break in. I was robbed, and American Alarm Systems did nothing, again. I'm pretty pissed about this, and spoke with the supervisor Gus. He feed me some bs and enraged me and I asked what he would do to fix this, or if we need to handle this in court. His response was that he has attorneys too and isn't afraid of me. I just want the clown to provide the service I pay for this is twice it has failed me and they have done nothing about it. I've gotten robbed twice because of their faulty equipment and service if you own a business do not use these people. If you care about your security go with someone else they do not care if you are robbed. I do not feel safe with this company more than likely I'll have to take this company to small claims court so I would say stay clear. Maybe the company isn't bad, but this particular branch is it's incredible people like Gus are responsible for other people's safety he's a con man, a fraud, and this is third time I've learned that. This is the most despicable and unethical company that I have ever had the displeasure of becoming a customer. I hate to admit that I remained a customer for 32 years before I took over paying bills and discovered the cost of this deplorable system powered by sensors from a Cracker Jacks box. They continued to abuse me when I requested the cost of an upgrade by giving me a quote that exceeded ADT and HOMELIKE by Cox by 4 times for the inferior equipment they charge you for. About 3 years ago my home was broken into by thieves. They entered the home through the sliding glass back door and proceeded to rampage through my house looking for valuables to presumably pawn or sell. If you have ever been a victim of home theft you know how absolutely invasive and terrifying this is, the feeling of not being protected in your own home is so gross a million showers couldn't waste the feeling away. I knew at this point the only way to regain my security and sanity was with an alarm system and security company. I looked at all the of the usual providers, I don't have to name them, you know them. Something wasn't right. Most used the same technology, distant call centers that serviced many brands and products using outdated copper line transmissions (think hard wired home phones you see cut in movies) and antiquated devices that simply put didn't offer me the piece of mind I was looking for. I spoke with Chris Robinson, he walked me through every decision I made, product they offered and why they offered it. The solution was perfect for my needs. I needed something unique, not some box brand that future thieves would surely have a solution for because let's face it, when you are dealing with professionals they are surely aware of the ins and outs of the mass marketed, mass produced and collective call centers out there. There's a reason Honda is the most stolen vehicle in the world, this same principal applies. American Alarms is a custom solution that is more expensive than box brand competitors. Simply put. If you want millions of people using the same equipment as you go to someone else, if you want a custom installation using proprietary features not able to be simply googled ( Google Box brand +hacks and see what I mean) , go with Chris and American. I'm not saying a professional can't bypass the system, what I am saying is google won't be able to teach them how to do it. I pay more because I expect more, let the others complain they can get XYZ system cheaper, then Google XYZ Hacks and see why it's cheaper. This is the worst company ever for an alarm system. I asked them to put a certain alarm system in but they put their own system in and then charge me a fortune. Then eventually when I insisted on the one I wanted, they put a used system in as they said it's discontinued. To date, the alarm has still not worked correctly. Every time I call with issues, they can't help me and it's been a nightmare. They keep charging me for sensors they change and give me excuses why the system doesn't work and then put in other sensors to try and make it work. When I say I am going to cancel, they threaten me with penalties that they going to charge me. As the reviews of other people state, this company is a fraud. We had our alarm system installed 8 months ago. And, there isn't a day that goes by that we think about the safety of us and our home! We love our system and the company that monitors our home! The installation was done quickly and the technicians were professional and really knowledgeable. We had an estimate from Another company and we chose American because it was just less expensive and provided more of what we needed! We just feel safer when at home our away from the house! Had a recent install of a new system so we could arm and disarm our system via a smart phone or iPad. We also had a full replacement of security cameras and a DVR so we could view cameras remotely as well. Customer service is the best, it's a small enough to company that they know you by name and their follow through is excellent. We are very happy and satisfied customers. I read through the other reviews and found it amusing that people were upset over multi year contracts, that is the industry normal as they have to recoup the cost of the equipment and monitoring somehow! Crazy that people want everything for free. And FYI, I have found on Yelp that anyone who posts a competitors name, most likely works for the competitor. read more

I have American Alarm Systems in my business and home for 3 years now and have had the best customer service ever!!! They monitor the business all weekend when we are closed and call every time some one enters without permission. I had a programming issue with the pin pad and they came right out and fixed my botched attempt to enter new codes. It was all my fault, yet they fixed the problem without charge and and the next day!!! We previously had ADT and when we wanted to upgrade to a multi user pin pad they wanted $500.00 to do it after 7 years of service!! When I tried to cancel the contract, they said that it automatically renews and I would have to pay for whole year anyway!!!! Fortunately a new corporation was formed and they sued the old owners in bankruptcy. They were sneaky to to never let you know about their renewal process, even in a bad situation. I also have American Alarm in my home and they have the best installers and did such a nice, clean job, on time and courteous. I love that they are a local company and Alyssa, our rep is the best. Someone recently shined a light thru my window, I don't care if this was a noisy neighbor or someone who was looking to do further harm but I had to find a reliable alarm company. I have 2 young girls and would not take any chances. I called American Alarm and spoke to Chris. I got great pricing. ( I was also shopping for a car at the time so I made a little spreadsheet like the one I did before picking I dealer. I compared terms, install and monthly monitoring rate) I was a little hesitant about getting into a contract but after speaking to Jon my installation tech, I was happy to see they knew what they were doing. My company recently moved and with that, we got to ditch our nightmare with ADT that had existed for two years. It is a breath of fresh air when Ed introduced himself, gave me his card, and made sure I had his cellphone number in case I ever have any problems. The installation crew showed up on time, handled their work efficiently, and gave a quick overview on how to operate the control panels. Ed has followed up and made sure we are comfortable with everything - he even offered to show up and walk me through the system personally. As an alarm industry professional since 1974 I worked for American Alarm in the late 1980s. They are still in the same location and owned by the same family probably an industry record. While many "security companies" have chosen to sell out or sell off their new monitoring and service accounts to third parties American has remained true to their roots. They still have their own UL Listed Central Station in house while most competitors use a 3rd party service. Yet you cant please everyone and some of the negative reviews were clearly bogus or people are just ill informed or misguided in how the alarm industry works. Many people are misled by door knocking salespeople or radio adds that promise "Simple" solutions by talking heads who know nothing of security. An alarm system should be custom designed around your personal concerns, lifestyle, budget, location and so forth, there isn't a one size fits all and no such thing as a free alarm system. Technology changes rapidly and if your system is older it is worth the time to discuss it and your needs with your current provider or give American Alarm a call. I am not an employee and left So. Had service with this company for almost 9 years. Sold my house and did not realize when they upgraded my unit to work with my phone I was put in another 5 year contract. I called the company and asked if they could let me out of the contract or switch the service to my new house. Did not hear from them again. Between moving and everything else just forgot about it and never heard from them. There products are defective, after having an account for months my business got broken into and we realized that there product is faulty and defective nothing worked, sensors motion sensors nothing worked! It's a bogus company charging monthly payments for nothing. When I called to fix the problem I wasn't given a call back until I called again two days later and I was told by a rude gentleman that it's my problem and to stop the service and to sue them in court I have this all in recording so they can't deny it. I lost over 10k in one night because of this fake alarm company I recommend if u care about your family or your business u would stay far from this company. I asked that they install an alarm system in a small business. They did ok but had a random hourly employee sign a contract. When we closed this non profit company they threatened a law suit over 2k contact. They are so pathetic that they don't know a non profit is protected from such suits. But they are very sneaky people in that I was never aware there was contract. They are the worst of the worst. Use a reputable firm such as adp. At least they are honest! read more
