First used them over 20 years ago, but last week, my 2019 Jeep Cherokee Overland needed a new battery. Dealer wanted $670 for a new batter installed. This Company is owned by a Veteran who claims to offer a 10% discount to Veterans but apparently does not totally support his brother Vets. Because my husband, who was wearing a Vietnam Veteran hat and shirt, and is a disabled Vietnam Veteran, did not ask for the VA discount himself at the time of purchase did not receive the 10% discount on a $700 purchase of batteries. When he returned the next day to request the discount, the owner (who is also a Veteran) told my husband, he could not receive the discount after purchase. If this how a discount is provided "where if you don't ask for it your self, staff are not required to ask an obvious question regarding a discount, why bother to offer it". Mobility scooter we bought for sister-in-law wouldn't turn on. One battery seemed ok on charger the other showed no charge after being on charger overnight. Bought a replacement and asked Mike to check charge to ensure I wasn't replacing good battery. Mike checked both and determined both needed replacing. Owner Mike drove to my home and installed couple batteries. Unfortunately Roberto from Golf and More down the street didn't honor the batteries he sold me for $200 each that had melted due to improper installation from his worker. Roberto manager lied to me and told me he gets the batteries from a source in SD. Actually he was getting them from right down the street! I know because the owner told me Roberto brought to the melted batteries back and tried to get him to make him replace them. Mike owner at America Battery said he could not due to the improper installation that caused this. I feel bad for all the residents at Rancho Carlsbad. Once a month I believe the third Thursday of every month Roberto sends a worker to meet any senior citizen by the tennis court that has an issue with this golf cart. I believe another company should be there to make sure honesty prevails. My friend Sadie was told she needed all new batteries and they needed to tow her cart to their facility to check out the electrical system. Drove all the way out to escondido to this battery store assuming mr. battery would know what he's talking about and I believe that because I am a woman he thought he could somehow take advantage of that and give me the wrong battery. I asked for a gel battery and he gave me a lead acid battery that was not gel, which became evident upon the battery leaking acid when I opened the box. An independent battery store. Visiting here feels a bit sketchy because it's located in Escondido's red light district. It doesn't help that their business sign is in disrepair and you're basically you pulling up to a warehouse full of batteries. It kinda feels like you're up to no good. But the reality is that American Batteries is a quick place to drive up and get a battery installed. TIP - When you park you're going to have to walk inside the warehouse and walk to the counter and get in line. That's the only way to get service.. When I bought my Chevy SUV five years ago they forgot to mention that the factory-installed battery they used was an AGM style battery (very expensive) and the battery removal isn't a standard remove black, red, and pull out and replace. In the end American was over $100 cheaper than what the dealership was going to charge me for a battery and install. * Good place for tougher battery installs. * Costco doesn't sell AGM batteries (yet).. * Installation is $10. * The batteries they sell are generic, sold under their house brand label. Employee Michael Wtz manager of the Escondido location was very unprofessional on pricing. I was quoted one number and it changed dramatically with no explanation. At that point he got rude,very disrespectful, cocky and laughed and at me. Would even show me the difference in batteries. The told me to "google it". Poor management!!! Yesterday, I patiently waited in front of the sales counter for 30 minutes. The workers were busy answering phones and not taking care of the customers in line. Not one time did a manager come out and try to help out the situation. The workers did not take the time to say anything to me. At first I thought I was in the wrong area. I left frustrated and will never go back. I went around the corner to O'reilly's Auto Shop, who were as busy. I waited two minutes in line. I was greeted by a nice customer service worker. Started my car this morning and thought I may be stuck at work once I got there, luckily it started when I got off work (at 5 PM).
