One word to describe this place - PRICEY. My review is only about buying gravel/stone/road base/ Decomposed granite. The employees are all super helpful and nice, but you definitely pay for the convenience of having it close by. Pros: Easy access Great service Good supply and options Worth it if you need small amounts of material Cons: Pricey compared to larger material yards Not a lot of options for loose material Road base is chunkier than you'd really like for projects like starter layer for pavers. Material sold by the 1/3 cu yard, but same price as a full cubic yard of material at other places slightly farther out of town I'd go here again inly when I need small amounts of stuff otherwise it's cheaper to drive farther for larger loads. read more

I referred my friend to them as they seem to be reputable and they were when we picked up some nice golden honey Vaneer, but then we requested samples for some el dorado stone sill and even though they said they they would have it in a week, when we called today not only did they not have it, but they said they don't provide samples for free after they said they would! Joe and Brandon were the people we dealt with who have dropped the ball for two weeks now!! Wow! My husband and I had a nice experience working with American Builders Supply in Canoga Park, CA. Nice selection, average pricing (sale items had GREAT pricing!), and all of the staff we spoke to and worked with gave us excellent customer service and information. I was compelled to review them for "Yelp" after my experience there. Junior made a nice first impression on the phone when I was making an inquiry about a product. He also helped us when we arrived on site a few days later. Alex took over the process of giving us some additional information, and Junior took our eventual order over the phone. It was a hassle-free experience. Tino helped us set up a delivery date once the order was in, and he advised us on which mortar/mix to use for each type of product ordered, and he added it to my delivery order upon request. Again, a hassle-free experience. I can't say enough about the friendly staff, their nice attitudes, and their willingness to help. It was like working with a family-run business. My wife and I went to the location 2 times to look at stack stone. They have a good selection but not what we were looking for. We asked to have samples brought in so that we could decide what we wanted. We spoke with Eddie who told us the samples would be in, in about 3-5 days. After a week, I called back and was told they never went to get the samples. Eddie told me he would call me back with an update and never did. I called again today 6/9, left a message for eddie and no call back. I guess they did not want a almost $4000 order. I'll make sure to refer them any business in the future either read more

On a scale of how a business should be conducted, I would rate them much lower, however having dealt with many Building Supply houses, they are pretty much on par. Spotty inventory, a lack of interest in following up, often mistakes on requested material lists, overprice on some products, lack of professionalism by some at the front desk, lack or coordination or system out in the yard and pick up area. Not always does the right hand now what the left is doing (lack of communications between them). Reading the above, you would asked then why rate them 3 stars? WOW! I couldn't be happier with the experiences we have had at Americam Builders Supply. We were told by our pool contractor that this was the place to go to look at stone options for our pool. The guys in the office were super helpful & very patient with the decision making process & the guys in the yard were extremely patient when we looked at several different pallets stone to pick just the right one. We had great service and would go back to them again. It is very difficult for us to choose a stone for our back yard, but with the assistance of Junior it made it so much easier. He was so patient and once he knew what we had in mind he made this choice so much easier for us. He even spoke to our contractor to make sure we were getting the correct type of material and amount to purchase. My wife and I came in on a Saturday to buy some gravel for our landscaping. They miscalculated my written measurements for gravel and only delivered about 60% of what I needed. I called and emailed without a resolution. I went in on my lunch hour during the week to resolve the shortage. We ended up with another order for 6 scoops and then they insisted on charging me a second delivery charge. Really? I have no problem paying for the additional material, but they refused to accept responsibility for the error. Just chalked it up to a "misunderstanding." Uh, no. Terrible customer service. Stand behind your business! Take care of your customers and it will be rewarded. Don't, and this is what happens. I will never shop there again, nor refer anybody to them either. Also, I have requested an invoice and credit card receipt to be emailed to me [since I paid over the phone] 3 times and no response. There are quite a number of building supply businesses around and all are selling basically the same thing. At the end of the day, all you really have is SERVICE. I ordered Palm Springs Gold gravel,4 cuft.,I had it delivered when I got home and saw what they delivered which was half gravel and half powdered useless rock I went back to the Canoga store and told them what had been delivered. They had there salesman come to my house and take pictures of the load and he agreed it was shit. They said they would take care of me on the next load. I paid for another load,they took $20 off the delivery charge.Now I an into it for over $700 and the second load shows up which is worse than the first. I used some of it as a base went to Balboa brick and had them deliver me clean washed gravel whic I used to top off the crap American builders sold me.I still have a scoop of crap sitting on my driveway I guess I'll have to spread it all out and hose it clean. I never heard back from these people. There service was good but the product sucks. Balboa brick was a little more expensive but when you spread there gravel out your done read more
