I've never been interested in doing an escape room. My family has always wanted to do one. I gave in, so we could do something together as a family and American Escape Rooms didn't disappoint. Right now, you have to book your room online. Their website was easy to navigate, and make sure to text the phone number on the site to get a same day discount code! We booked the same day for the Zombie room. Their prices, by the way, were a lot less than other rooms in Orlando by around $10/per person. We arrived a few minutes ahead of time, signed the waivers and locked our phones away. Brooke, our game master, went over the rules and then we were locked inside. Needless to say, we had a lot of fun. 60 minutes goes by extremely quickly, and alas, the zombies won and we lost. Brooke was extremely helpful with her clues she gave us over the walkie talkie and was invested in us succeeding (she doesn't need more zombies running around). We enjoyed our experience so much that when they offered us a discounted package for another time, we went ahead and took it. They have 4 different rooms available, plus, they're located in a shopping center near UCF which has some great food and drink options for winners (and losers) to enjoy afterwards. Just spent the evening doing some staff bonding here! We booked the Cold War Crisis, which we found out upon arriving is the hardest room they have in the whole place. I want to start by saying the customer service is INCREDIBLE. We were running late due to leaving at 5 and it takes a while to get down Almoa and University during work hours and they warned us we probably would have time taken off, but they still accommodated and gave us the whole hour. Mr. Roy the game master was very helpful, fun, and kind. We struggled a lot, but he was helpful with hints and truly made us feel good when we accomplished clues. I had a great time at the American Escape Rooms. My team unfortunately didn't escape but the game was so much fun. For our first time apparently the room we picked was one of the hardest. What was cool about this particular escape room was the fact that despite the level of difficulty we were able to work together as a team. Our room was the Cold War Crisis. I can't divulge much about the room but it was HARD. I like the fact that when we were stuck we could ask for clues; that alone helped us move forward in the game. What a great addition to the UCF area. Ok, I'm not sure how long it's been here, but you don't have to head to the tourist areas of Orlando to find something fun to do. It's in a strip mall on a road that parallel's University Blvd, so it's not like you'll see it if driving by. It's behind Firehouse Subs/Kyoto. We found a coupon online and used it to book a room for 4 of us. There is a chance they'll pair you with other people, but we were lucky and had the room to ourselves. After we did the room, we got to put our names on the wall since we were successful. They also offer you a great deal on the next room if you purchase right away. It was a good time, but it could use a bit more flare when compared to some other places. I'm not sure if they refresh or update the rooms at all, so once you do all of the rooms, you may not be going back. I'd check with them to be sure. The staff is always friendly and it seems like they're not totally booked, so it could be a last minute decision to go. Call or check online on a rainy day! read more

Had a great time here with friends. Tried this place with a Groupon and it was so much fun! I prefer escape rooms on the creepy macabre side so I was happy to find this location had a Mad Professors Asylum themed room - yay asylum! The decorations were simple and they could put a little more into it, but there's probably a fine line between just enough decor and distracting from the actual clues. That being said, I do prefer the straightforward availability of clues and locks to open vs dummy props that waste time, so that was good. I was relieved that they had 5 hints available and the game master Anchovy was super helpful and nice whenever we needed a hint. I've been in escape rooms where we couldn't get the game master to respond when we asked for hints or sounded utterly bored and degrading. I was relieved that our guy was on it and upbeat and super helpful because that made a difference to us getting out. Would like to return and do another room! read more

This was a fun escape room and we did the Zombie Apocalypse. It is a really hard room, way to many locks and we were 2 away from escape when time ran out. It is definitely a room to do with more than 3 people. You get 5 clues which is more than the norm compared to other escape rooms we have done. My only problem was that when ask for a clue, the person assigned was not clear at all in the way they were given making it more confusing, we could barely understand what she was saying because she was goofing from the beginning, not sure she took us seriously. We did take advantage of return tickets and hope she is not the person assigned because will refuse to do. read more

I actually never "demanded" anything - the person on the phone insisted that they couldn't do anything to help me so I politely hung up and never contacted you guys again. You also made a sarcastic comment about my inability to read addresses or maps -- apparently you don't read well either because I clearly stated in my review "I accept responsibility that this was our honest mistake..." and then proceeded to make a suggestion that your business could simply make a notation of how there is another local business with almost identical names. Our group had a lot of fun doing the zombie apocalypse. Kuddos to the props and decors. According to the staff, the difficulty was moderate 4/5. The game master was very nice and the facility really sets the mood. However, on the zombie apocalypse room, we felt like there were more lock combinations than mind games/puzzles to solve. Also, our game master was also the game master for other teams so at times we had to wait for him to finish helping the other team before we could get our hints. He was also the receptionist. He was in such a rush because he was so busy. It would've been better if he was focused on being the game master instead of doing everything. And instead of a walkie-talkie, maybe add some speakers & microphones to the room to talk to the players. Sometimes we lose the walkie-talkie around the room and we have to find it before we can ask for hints or if we have questions. Maybe we would try it again with another room and book at an earlier time (we did 6:30 pm) to have more staff. But overall, it was a nice experience. read more

Mid to late last year, my friends and I noticed a sign for a future escape room game opening up near UCF and we were very excited. The place seemed to have a super delayed opening date- much later than scheduled. My friends and I got a Groupon for four people to do an escape room. Our fourth person backed out and they still accepted the Groupon! We were helped out by Bri the entire time. She was so nice and very helpful. They have four different rooms (listed in order of difficulty)- Mind Boggling, Mad Professors Asylum, Zombie Apocalypse, and Cold War. We chose Mind Boggling. I can't give any specifics of the room, but it was a lot of fun. Everything was set up so well and very intricate but not too hard, and the entire time you play, somebody is watching & hearing you through cameras and can give you feedback through a walkie talkie. You also get 5 hints if you get stuck! One of our props that we needed got stuck somewhere and they paused the timer for us and they fixed it and apologized. We got out with 15 minutes to spare! We got to write our name on the winner wall [look for the AAA ;)] and took a picture with props for Facebook. Overall we had a great experience here! They offer more tickets for a lower price after you finish and of course we took them. I was very nervous to do this at first (I freeze up under pressure) but Bri helped us out a ton and put me at ease. Next time we're trying the Mad Professors Asylum! Happy to report we used the funds elsewhere and had a great time. My advise, BEWARE!!! It just goes to show the type of person Andy is. I know I'm not the first, in since reading others reviews, and I know I won't be the last, that he accuses his customers of being "rude" and "abusive". He is very aggressive and I honestly feel unfortunate to those that are employed by him. I can only image how he treats his staff if this is how customers are treated. One day I hope he takes some accountability for his actions, and lies, and learns to be a better business owner. Highly recommend him reading the book "Complete Ownership." Had a holiday work party planned for weeks and was very disappointed when they would not reschedule when we had members of our team show signs of Covid. Was told to email them, which I did when I returned to the office since reservation was booked under company email, and under the circumstances it "was sure something could be worked out". My email was ignored. I followed up with a call and spoke with Andy and he said there was nothing they could do. Pretty sad that we are out of our game for doing and taking the necessary precautions during the pandemic. Edit to add: After submitting my review, received an email offering to "make an exception". I gladly obliged to the offer. Momentarily after new day/time was booked, received an additional cancellation email saying the offer was "rescinded" due to my review. It is apparent that Andy's biggest concern is money over health, safety and professionalism. Should have known from the get go, when my original email was ignored. Tonight I took my family to try out the Mind Boggling room. I had done this a little over a year ago with another group but had totally forgot all the puzzles inside (which is a good thing). We had a total blast AND we escaped with about 9 1/2 minutes left. We started off with Justice as our game master but ended the second half with Ginger Snapps. Love him!!!! So I came here with my class (class activity) so I don't know if you choose the rooms or they choose for you. This was my first time doing any escape room at all so I was excited. You sign the waiver and other stuff before you start the escape. My group was chosen to be in mind boggling. I did not expected the first room to be all white. Hahaha. I'm not gonna give away what happens in that room. Have fun figuring it out ;) But anyways, they will give you a walk-talkie and you have 5 hints. You have 60 minutes to escape. Ideally, you try to have 4-7 people to solve. We had 7 people in my group. You don't want too many people cuz it's hard to solve with many people. Try to scatter around the room and look what's out there. Don't huddle all together in one area unless you are at the last part. There's three rooms inside so don't think it's just that white room. XD Mad Professor alyssum is rank the easiest to escape, then the Zombie, then the Mind Boggling, and then Cold War. Sadly, we didn't not finish in time. We were two steps away. We actually had a hard time opening one of the locks (the one you swipe up, down, left, and right). They paused the time for us. That was nice of them. After you and your group are done, you can take a photo with their photo booth props at their photo booth background. Yeah it was frustrating to solve them but in the end, I had fun. I took my niece ( 11 ), little sister (15) and husband , we had such a fantastic time. Both girls actively helped solve the puzzles. Our group of 4 was matched up with another couple to make a group of 6 people. I was concerned that the 11 year old would feel left out but she actually solved a pretty hard clue all by herself. Our game host was very friend (Mr. Duncan). He was on top of guiding us through the game and some of our silly mistakes like not pulling down hard enough on a lock. We successfully did escape with 6.20 minutes remaining on the clock. The room we did was Mind Boggling. There were a few fun puzzles but I felt this room was too reliant on tons of codes and keys. I would've liked to have seen more puzzles that were a bit more group hands on. The cost was reasonable since we booked a private 8 person room. I would not pay more than $25.00 a person for this room. There was a bit too much pressure to purchase a certificate to come back. It wasn't a logical fit for us since we can't guarantee the same 8 people will return next time to the escape room since we all have different schedules. Overall positive experience. I will preface with this, I have never gone to any other Escape room besides this one, but I have done every room at this location. I believe that the biggest things to look for in an Escape room are prices and story/experience and this place is great with both. On average, rooms go for about $30 a person, and this place does stay true to that way of pricing, but they also provide alternatives for groups, both private and mixed games. (My personal favorite is the discounted return tickets that you get for & per at the location after your game) The rooms are extremely fun from the intense story at the beginning to the relief you feel when the door opens (if you do complete it). It could be frustrating going in with friends, coworkers, strangers, etc. but it truly is worth the memories. You can sign a huge wall at the end and take funny pictures at the end with props they provide. The only thing that bothered me was the customer service. Believe me when I say that these amazing individuals are extremely kind, helpful throughout, and just add to the experience as a whole. But I could not stand being asked to review this on Yelp 50 times after leaving the room. I wouldn't have minded a casual mention of an online review after calming from my Adrenalin filled experience, but - at least every time I went - it was brought up every 5 seconds along with the fact that they wanted me to mention them by name... *But if this is truly my only real complaint then theirs nothing to worry about* read more
