Got an email notifying me of an automatic renewal and a charge to my bank account. I do not have an account with this business. I contacted a "customer service" representative about a refund as the charge was pending with my bank. I informed him that I had no account with American Greetings. The company declined to reverse or refund the charge. In my opinion this is a scam. I have probably purchased their cards at grocery or retail stores before without thinking about the name of the company that produced them. Quite possibly the worst brand of product ever. Super low quality, cheap, doesn't hold at all. One roll of $6 wrapping paper was able to successfully wrap one 10 inch box. One. Very disappointing! Recently renewed my subscription after a year's lapse. Found that many people don't want to click on emailed e-card even when I send them a text message notifying them. I could not initiate a text e-card except on same day and not from my desktop computer--don't get that! Text message was available on my desktop and then when I went to send on day of event, it was gone! I emailed and called CS explaining my complaint and asking to cancel. They won't cancel! When I emailed to cancel 4 days into my "free" week, they emailed about a week later and said they would cancel at the end of the month, AFTER charging me in advance. Do not use the on line ecards. It is impossible to cancel this service. I turned off the auto renew button on my account and they still billed my credit card. Tried to purchase an American Greetings Birthday card in Walmart, none of the cards were on the system. The store refused to assign a price and would not allow me to purchase the card. The customer service manager of the Walmart explained that they were not able to sale items that were not on the system although the cards were on display in the store. The last time I used this service was in 2017. I've not used it since that time. I had no idea they were charging my American express card a fee every year. I got an email from them telling me about my renewal and the $29.00 annual fee. My husband pays the bills and just assumed I used this company. I do not...!!! They will not issue me a refund....they're a rip off and I asked for proof of me signing a membership and they refuse to show me. They state you can print the cards vis create a card, but there are less than a handful I found, maybe 5. I sent them a message and received a note stating they are there and you have to search. I read a few sentences on the cover and inspected the body, and it seems to convey what I want to say. However, after further inspection, I found TWO grammatical errors. I tried the free 7 day trial to send electronic greeting cards. There weren't many online but I sent several for the holidays. That is the 2 stars. Unfortunately, not many people even picked them up. Maybe spam filter?? Anyway, there is a message online that you can cancel the trial anytime using the "button below". There is no button below. Next I went online & sent an email. Several cancelation emails. I was then charged. I got an email back stating that they could not locate my account. They were able to locate it for billing & response tho. I have since tried calling. I have been very unhappy with this companies online business practices. I have had an American's Greeting membership thru Yahoo for a few years. I have attempted to cancel that membership over the that couple months. Problems: 1. There is NO way to cancel your membership on the website. 2. There is NO way to cancel your membership thru email. 3. The phone number you have to call is horrible. I was on hold 3x all with hold times between 20 and 45 minutes. The system then hung up on me 2 times on top of that! 4. When I got a person on the phone she cancelled my membership as of TODAY and said I would be getting a confirmation. The email that showed up 5 minutes after she hung up said I was renewed for another year THEN it would be cancelling. BEWARE OF THIS COMPANY!!! They are practicing some of the most unethical business and billing practices I have seen. I would go so far as to say www.americangreetings.com seems like a knowing and intentional reoccurring billing scam to me. They offer you a free trial where you can cancel with no liability, but then they make it very hard to cancel. Not to mention, they make it hard to find a place to leave a review. One has to go through their TOU, find the address where to mail legal requests, and then search here. First, they do not allow you to see HOW TO CANCEL until you have provided your billing information and signed up. ONLY THEN are you shown the instructions to cancel, which is to call a phone number. Now, it says they are open 24/7. BUT, the automated system does not allow you to accurately enter information to locate your records. It makes you spell your name and is never able to accurately locate your record. After reading the terms of service and privacy policy thoroughly, I could find no information on how to cancel either, other than references to the help section, as stated above, which requires you to log in, and therefore have an account and billing information on file, to view. FEDERAL TRADE COMMISSION, if you are reading this, PLEASE SANCTION THIS COMPANY FOR SUCH PRACTICES! It reminds me of the Enzyte case. read more

For Mother's Day, I purchased a $9 card that was battery-powered. I purchased the envelope and mailed it. The card arrived damaged and my mother was disappointed as was I. I emailed AG two times, no response. I called the customer number and there was no way to speak to a person. I went on the live chat and found out that retail sales was an entirely different number. I called this number and spoke to an agent named Anthony and his supervisor named Brandon. Both were unhelpful and shifted the burden of refunding my money to the retailer who sold me a perfect card. The card is defective if it cannot be mailed. AG refused to refund my money or send a replacement card. All they "could do" is let their research department know. AG should go out of business. BEWARE OF THIS COMPANY! I worked for them for 9 years in middle-management and opted for an early retirement package (just before the lay-offs started), when they were recently bought out by vulture capitalists. We early retirees were guaranteed health insurance for three years, helping those of us not yet 65, bridge the gap to medicare. Sounds great, right? Half way through the 3 year term the company randomly dropped my husband from the insurance with no explanation and they did not even notify me. My husband and I found out that he had been dropped by trying to get a biopsy for cancer that he needed after having his physical in November. I have spent the entire month of December trying to get him reinstated being shuttled from person to person. After having been assured that he was back on the insurance, and waiting nearly 2 weeks to be sure all the paperwork had been done on their end and the healthcare providers end, we tried to get the biopsy again and the same thing happened. He wasn't covered. This is when I started writing very strongly worded emails and copying a bunch of higher level people in the organization. Day after day as I checked to see if his coverage was there, I wrote more and more strongly worded emails. By the way, they also tried to manipulate me out of a refund of my husband's part of the premium for December. The last straw happened yesterday (1-1-2020) when I went on the healthcare providers site and was relieved to see my husband had been added back, but (to my dismay) THEY DROPPED COVERAGE FOR ME! I'm in the middle of now trying to get my coverage reinstated and get the biopsy for my husband. I've never, ever, in my entire life experienced such questionable conduct by a corporation. Also, this has happened to many people on the early retirement plan. It just smells to high heaven.
