First time dining here. Hubby ordered the fish and chips dinner and I ordered the blackened salmon special. These two meals are our favorites we both usually order out. Best blackened salmon I've had out and hubby said the fish and chips was also one of the best he's had out too! Excellent service by our server, Kate! We found our new favorite restaurant! I go to school right next door at Paul Mitchell The School and I have been wanting to try their food. I called and ordered a chicken Caesar salad for lunch. It literally took them 10 minutes to prepare my order and it was one of the best salads I have ever had. The chicken was seasoned and cooked to perfection. I could tell the croutons were homemade because they weren't too hard and they tasted like garlic bread. The dressing was delicious. It had tons of chicken, croutons, and cheese and the portion was huge for the price of $10. Lastly, the workers were super friendly and it smelled amazing in there. I like diners in general and this one fit the bill. A near perfect breakfast. The eggs were perfectly over easy and 4 strips of bacon beats the usual 2. My coffee cup was never less than half full. Of course not everything can be perfect. I like my hash browns crispier and these were not so much. I also like my toast well buttered and soft, the better to wipe egg yolks up with. Mine were kind of dry as they broke apart when trying to wipe my plate clean. Friendly staff that was able to find me a t-shirt that had older color graphics that I preferred. I would make it a regular breakfast place if I were from the area. As it was, I got lucky and stumbled across it on my road trip. I definitely recommend stopping if passing by. read more

Found this place on the way to Lake Huron. We were really hungry and the reviews seemed good so in we go. The salads we started with were fresh adn crispy. I had the fish and chips which were really good. No fishy taste and I chose the home fries which were wonderful. My husband had the burger and was pleased also. 1 star?? Yes! It wouldn't be a 1 but you have to choose something. It also wouldn't be a 1 If we wouldn't have sat there and sat there waiting for our order to be taken. The hostess said to seat ourselves so we did. After a few minutes the hostess came back with some menus and took our drink orders. That was it. No one ever came to take our order. We decided it was tine to leave so we paid for the drinks and left. And the sad thing is they weren't that busy but because the hostess told everyone to seat themselves, they all went to the same section and the server was overwhelmed and neglected to take our order. This place needs a good cleaning. The waitress was excellent. Food was good. The rating is because of the filthy bathroom, sink is stainless but dirty, browns stuff in corners and on side of the sink. I wouldn't put my baby on that changer. Food remnants on the condiments from prior customers; floors, tables, bathroom All visibly filthy. Service with a bit of an attitude, but ok. Soul was super salty and I oversalt my food already. It looks like just your typical diner, but the food is AMAZING! By far the best food in the area!!! We tried it out for dinner one night, and returned 3 more times in the same week! Everything we ordered was delicious... all homemade! You can really taste the difference from the other restaurants & diners in the area. The burgers are HUGE and both the french toast and the pancakes taste like a little bit of home. Seriously... I haven't had pancakes or french toast taste so good since my mother & father's cooking. Wow! I haven't been here in years! My waitress was Jo, and she earned her tip! Stopped in and had a daily special. Ham & Scalloped Potatoes, with soup, salad or cole slaw. Something wasn't quite the same as I had expected - it was more like cheese soup, with ham and potato chunks. Large portion, and even though I belong to the clean plate club, which entitles me to dessert, I didn't have room for any. The facility is nice and modern looking. read more

This was a great find while in Port Huron. Ordered a Greek salad and was pleasantly surprised at how generous the portion was and how great it was. That was my dinner and it was plenty. It was so good I came back for lunch the next day because I couldn't stop thinking about that Greek salad. So for lunch I ordered the Greek chicken salad. Even better! Enormous portions of fresh grilled chicken breast and vegetables. It was so large I had to take half home. Bonus: There are obviously a lot of locals who come in here. One guest that was obviously a regular, was handicapped and needed assistance getting to his table. The hostess/cashier stopped what she was doing and helped this gentleman to his table. The lunch was great but seeing such an act of beautiful compassion MADE MY DAY! The American Grill has everything going for it. EXCELLENT food. Top-notch employees, and great prices. Visited for a quick dinner while in Port Huron at this local diner. The menu has a vast array of options--basically anything you are in the mood for they have. The waitstaff was very friendly and prompt. We were shocked by how fast our food came out, as well. And this was not a fluke, all other customers were also receiving their food as quickly. The prices were also very good for the amount of food you get. I ordered a burger, which was mediocre--nothing extraordinary. However, the fries were nice and crispy! Others at my table ordered the BBQ ribs, which came out as a entire slab of ribs with sides to go along. Definitely a good portion for the price. We did see a customer at another table who ordered the burrito bowl, which comes in a huge taco shell bowl and wow did it look good! In town on business and wanted something non-chain and good. This had some nice reviews and the burgers looked good so I decided to give it a go.... Walked and sat myself as the waitress said I could. After I sat down a waitress brought me a menu immediately and too my drink order (Pepsi products - I won't deduct points for that, but it was tempting. I opted for a water - it was current vintage, clear, cold and a typical clean water taste. I asked about the burgers and the waitress indicated it was one of her favorite things to order. So, I ordered a cheeseburger & fries. It also comes with soup and coleslaw. Homemade soup. Home. Made. I order chicken noodle. It was brought out immediately, as in 5 seconds later. Just a cup, but it was homemade and it was excellent. The burger came out very fast as well. Very short wait. It was large and it was hot. The fry portion was large as well. I took a bite of the burger. Excellent! Very, very good. It's a burger so I will refrain from using 1000 words when a few will do. Get. The. Burger. The staff was friendly and laughing and seemed in very good moods all around. My waitress was nice and checked on me and my meal regularly but not annoyingly often. All in all, I recommend this place. Excellent hot food and excellent service. The building is a typical square building with windows around. Typical diner set up, if you're turned off or simply attracted to a place for how it looks, then that's your call. read more
