Since moving to the area, I frequent the Pelican Cafe often. My boyfriend and I often go for breakfast or anytime we want diner food. The service has always been fantastic. Drinks always stay full. Fast and friendly service. Food is delicious and prices are very reasonable! I frequently get the #4 breakfast special, which is about $5. Prices have gone up over the last year but that's expected. The quality of food is great for the price. You don't break the bank going to the Pelican. I often crave their pancakes! My love for this place is complete. I first discovered this place with take out cabbage rolls (available on tuesdays) and they are to die for!!! But I couldn't write this till I darkened the door. The menu is extensive. They have anything you could possibly want. Basic cafe atmosphere. I tried pasta because of a place can do above average pasta then they can do anything. It was amazing!!!! This is your typical family diner with huge plates and huge portions. We were on our way to Port Huron for a boat cruise and saw this restaurant on the way. It's on the east side of Gratiot and we were heading north on Gratiot so it was easy to pull in and pull out!! The menu has all day breakfasts, coneys, Mexican food and American options. I got an omelette and my friend got fish sandwich dinner with French fries. We both enjoyed our meals and the prices were reasonable so if I'm in the area I would probably go again. read more

Came here for breakfast, and was definitely impressed. I woke up one morning and really felt like having a sit down breakfast meal. Looked up a couple of places on Yelp and found this Gem. At first, I was a little skeptical, as most places that I've had country fried steak it's been really dry, but to my surprise this place nailed it. The country fried steak was very good, and I ordered over medium eggs. The bread was a little On the crunchier side, but nothing that butter or jelly couldn't fix. Also, the pork chops were delicious: they were juicy and super flavorful; they had a very fresh taste. Luckily, this place is around the corner for me, so I will end up frequenting this place often. Super happy I was able to find a peaceful, charming, and delicious place to eat breakfast!!!! Our waitress was very nice, and she made sure our coffee cups were always full (huge plus because she was attentive). This place has went down hill fast. I hate to write this review because this was a place my family really liked. The place did not feel as clean as it did even 6 months ago. The service was god awful and the food was ok at best. I don't understand what happened at this restaurant. We got all of our meals 5 minutes between each person eating. How hard is it to bring out 4 meals at once. The server brought out pancakes for my child and then never returned with syrup until the pancakes were cold. Then we waited 5 minutes for another person in my party to be served. I waited 10 more minutes for my food and by that time everyone was done eating. When we walked in the place everyone looked unhappy and at first I could not figure out why, but it became very clear. The table next to ours was yelling about how bad the service was as well. We stopped for breakfast, the coffee was good, the eggs made to order. The bacon was a little overdone and the potato pancakes were probably frozen but they were flavorful. This is a nice small town diner. Misty was my server and is just overall a wonderful person. They have a great sandwich selection and my friend Matt and I also enjoyed their sides. When so many places were closed during COVID season, they were at limited capacity and very happy to serve. I would like to come and try their breakfasts soon. At times like this, mom and pop restaurants need our help, and while some take the restrictions to heart and show it in their service, this place stays positive. I went back to my birthplace to visit some family I hadn't seen in a hella long time. Since going out into the world as a grown up adult person, I've moved to bigger cities than quaint, hometown Port Huron and surrounding areas. When I told my brother I was vegan, I could almost hear him sweating a little over the phone. I know he was thinking, "where the hell am I going to take this guy to eat when he comes to visit?" When I finally got home sweet home, bro and sister-in-law take me to Pelican Cafe. At first glance I think, "yup. I'm back home in little town, MI." When we pull up, there is no more than one car in a rather luxuriously sized parking lot. Our car brings the total to two cars. The interior is clean enough that I don't want to leave, but not clean enough to want to go back. The decor is kind of drab and outdated. It looks like an old truck stop diner. The news is on a TV in the background. It isn't FOX news, so that's a positive. This place even comes with it's own grumpy middle-aged server with a gruff, smoker cough voice. My next thought before seeing the menu is, "I'm quite happy with a salad and french fries." Then, I open the menu. I am super relieved to see that there is a veggie stir-fry on the menu. When I ask middle-aged smoker cough voice server if the stir-fry was vegan, she doesn't hesitate to chortle, "yup." So, that is what I order. It also comes with a salad. I go ahead and order french fries too, since I kind of had my mind on some. When the food comes, the stir-fry looks a step below something I might make at home (which is fine because I'm a snobby foodie cook). It is a gigantic portion of plain colored stir-fry with vegetables with no tofu, which tasted like the cook added a little soy-sauce to some salt. I don't eat a lot of salt, because it's not really too great in mass consumption. But, I freaking love salt. Once in a while can't hurt. I'm hoping it doesn't. After tasting the vegetables, I determine they are from a frozen mix because of the texture, which is fine because I'm paying for dinner. Gotta love brother. The salad is mostly ice-berg, with some romain, tomatoes, and carrots. The Italian dressing is to be expected from an old truck stop looking diner cafe place. And, the french fries (probably not completely vegan because shared frier. I'm a bad vegan.)-- They are a perfect temperature; crispy on the outside, and gushy yum yum in the middle. This place knows how to fry a potato. Overall, I leave super stuffed. I mean, I did eat three full plates of food. Could I have made all of these dishes better at home? Absolutely. Did I still eat everything? Yes I did. The food was edible, sort of tasty, and not gross. And, I didn't have to pay for it, so bonus! read more

I love coming to this restaurant! It's always quiet and relaxed and the servers are always friendly! Breakfast is delicious here, and today I tried their cheeseburger and it is one of the best cheeseburgers I have ever had! The only reason for not giving five stars is they don't have a changing table in the bathroom so I had to change my baby in the car, but they were really apologetic about it. Also this is the second time I have had a waitress tell me something on their menu isn't any good, which don't get me wrong, I LOVE the honesty, but I'm thinking they should revamp the menu then and get rid of the not so good food. Horrible service, staff were fighting the whole time, all the customers could hear through the restaurant and inappropriate language was being used. Small children and young adults were in the restaurant at the time. Our order wasn't even filled correctly, soup came with the meal, while we didn't revive any sauces or bread baskets. Never offered dessert with our meals. We love this place but tonight we were in disbelief. Some staff that got called in tried to help the situation but to no avail. One of the waitresses who came in tried to be helpful and only remove our drink bill. My family believes we should have been compensated for the scene we witnessed. read more

I am so disappointed, I am in from out of town and the office I work for orders from this restaurant all the time. In fact I ordered my department lunch today, but that will be the last time. I was just told that the owners son Tommy refuses to deliver to me at the Blue Water Inn because it is a "motel" I wasn't aware that there was such a stigma placed on this establishment. Very sad about how they treat there servers. I have seen them make them cry. I heard him yelling something to one tonight from the kitchen to the service area while she was with a customer. Food isn't too bad for the price but it isn't consistent on how they serve it. The filth in the bathrooms though is the last straw. Floors are sticky with urine & there was poop on the wall. I was in there today for dinner with my fiance. My first time but not his and I will start by saying I will never go back. My fiance had ordered a hot turkey sandwich and I ordered a grilled ham and cheese. His food was just fine and my grilled ham and cheese felt as if it just came out of a refrigerator. My fiance asked our waitress if it could be heated up and the waitress took it with no attitude, she got to the window and had asked the cook to heat it up and told him that we said it was cold and we plain as day heard him say " that's f*****g bull****.. are they smoking f*****g crack?!" The owner made it right by making the cook pay for the $23 meal but it didn't help my thoughts of this place.
