This visit was my families second time in the last year. The servers were polite, food took a bit but we had appetizers so it was ok

We chose Freighters for our first Valentine's Day date night after having two kids, and we were completely let down. From the moment we walked in, the experience was disappointing. The hostess was rude, and when we were seated, there were straws, wrappers, and spilled liquid underneath our table. No one offered to clean it, and after being sat, no one came to our table for over 20 minutes. When our waiter finally arrived- without greeting or introducing himself he just asked "has anyone been with you yet?" *mind you he had been in the section tending to TWO other tables the whole time we were there*. We ordered drinks (an old fashioned and a mocktail), along with cheese curds for an appetizer and a steak and burger for dinner. Our drinks didn't come out for another 15 minutes. When the waiter brought them, I asked if he could put all of our food in at once if he didn't already. He stated he already had because the kitchen was backed up. After that, we never saw him again. Meanwhile, the couple seated right before us received their drinks, meals, and even dessert. Another table was served three appetizers during the time we sat there waiting. Our table was available after being on a waitlist of 35 minutes at 7:11pm and by 8:30pm we still had not received ANY of our food or seen our waiter again. We left money on the table to cover our drinks and left. To make matters worse, the table next to us remained dirty the entire time we were there, and an 8-top nearby sat covered in dishes the whole evening. Where was the manager? The owner? There was no one walking around apologizing for long wait times, no communication, and absolutely no effort to offer compensation or make things right. I have worked in hospitality in years and the way this night was handled was absolutely careless. I have given this establishment MANY changes, and this was the last straw. An absolute 0/10 experience. This was supposed to be a special Valentine's night out for us, and instead it was frustrating and disappointing. I will not be returning to Freighters, and I will be sharing this experience with others so they don't waste their special occasions the way we did. read more

Waitress tried so hard to keep us happy because we had a verry long wait for our food. Food Just ok. We are passing through so we wont visit the restaurant again. How do you ruin Home made fries? They managed to do it. New England clam chowder -spicy? None that I've ever had until today. And when are restaurants going to learn to split the dish in the back when you make a point of saying the dish is being split. We ordered two entrees. Just wanted to have a little of both. Again, another menu change at Freighters. They took their fried pickles off the menu again. They were also out of items. The mac & cheese isn't on the menu but when we ordered it, unfortunately this time the vegetables were a major cost addition to the mac & cheese $16 cost already. Each addition was $8 per vegetable. The server did not indicate this at the time and unfortunately this doubled the cost of this mac & cheese. Only the mushrooms were free. If it was absolutely spectacular I guess we would not have an issue, but it is just basic mac & cheese. The salad was also just OK. I doubt we will be returning again. The service was slow, but she was kind. I guess we tried to love this restaurant, but they keep changing their menu and then they have very limited vegetarian options. The view is the best part, but unfortunately we came at night and during the winter so not much to see there. Disappointing. read more

The food was pretty delicious. We made some customizations that didn't exist on the menu and they accommodated us and made it delicious. With the view of the bridge and a good meal to pair it with it's hard to go wrong. Id love to see an option for a rare cooked burger. With that being said it was a perfect medium. I just prefer rare. My husband and I come here every year for lunch for our anniversary because we had our rehearsal dinner here. The views in this place are beautiful and have such a stunning view of the river and the freights that pass by. The service is good when we come here as well and there's never a wait, which is a plus. The food is good. But I believe they changed their menu from a few years back, I always look forward to their clam chowder, but this years was different. But nonetheless, their food is pretty tasty. We will be coming back for our yearly tradition every year! read more

WOW! Freighters is back and better than ever! We have stayed at the doubletree over a dozen times while visiting the blue water area and always dined at freighters. It was always "just okay", but it's a completely different story now. Such a delicious revamp of their menu, food quality, and service level. I am so happily surprised with our meal tonight. Cassie, our server, was perfect! So professional and hospitable. The food was also...perfect. Same with the cocktails. Had an awesome Apple Butter Old Fashioned. We split the deviled eggs for an app, really unique and tasty flavor. I had the Michigan salad as a side salad, fresh and tasty. My meal was the gnocchi - UNREAL. So savory & well prepared. The good is you get to see a freighter and boat traffic on the river The not so good is Nobody manning front desk The few staff members were running around Perhaps there were big parties in the back Fried Pickles ok, spears too big, batter did not adhere. So when you pick on up and they slide right out into the small ranch dip. Spears skin was rough on a few and could not eat Hubby had Fish Tacos and he liked them I had the breaded pan fried white fish w grilled carrots and wild rice pilaf Well the fish was soggy on top and the small amount of sauce on bottom minuscule Carrots were inedible Grilling them requires technique But they were so tough and undercooked Rice pilaf was a dome of tacky rice Uncle Ben's is better This place needs some help read more

I'm sorry it just doesn't deliver When this place first opened, I loved it. It had a fantastic menu with a great starters, and I used to love the tower of ribs. Now it's a rather limited menu with incredibly slow service I had the freighter burger, and it was very, very good. I was quite pleased. But most of the things on the menu are overpriced and it's just not what it once was I still give it the three star rating because actually I think the interior is really trendy and nice and I think that an overhaul in services and menu would still make this place good But really, my three stars easily could've been two read more

The Baja fish tacos were fantastic!! I would highly recommend, however the chips and salsa has no flavor at all and it's an 8$ up charge for a different side choice. Great view of the river and the Blue Water Bridge. There is indoor and outdoor seating, and this restaurant is connected to a Hilton.Hotel with the same beautiful view. I had a salmon burger, and it was very tasty and came with their own homemade chips My friend had the fish and chips dinner which is made with cod and comes with waffle fries, and he said it had homemade tartar sauce We both liked our food very much and the view was very entertaining. A lunch date with a view. Haven't been this way in many a years. First things first. This is place is the former location of the Thomas Edison Inn, in the shadows of the Blue Water bridge that connects the USA to Canada. Totally redone, like leveled and rebuilt, more modern, not quaint. We had a great table over looking the water to watch the boats go by, and what a beautiful view Our server Sean (could have been Shawn) was outstanding and so was the food. Out of the four of us, three of us all had the Chicken Wrap, which was freshly done and delicious. Our forth person did a Ceaser Salad which he could not finish, and took home the rest. I got the Shrimp Bucatini, it was amazing!! The sauce was so unique! It was very light with a hint of lemon. The shrimp was seasoned really good too. I had already starting eating it and then decided to take a picture. So, this is a half eaten portion. read more

They no longer use Yelp for the waitlist, but never updated their site. Food was mediocre. Service was good. I ordered a regular burger with Monterey Jack cheese - medium. Well, if not for the outside patio, the interior of this place is quite dark and depressing. But the patio was lovely, so that is where we sat on a beautiful afternoon. The food was very good, as well as the service. I would drive an hour again for the salad I had - it was delicious - it had arugula/spinach with goat cheese, beets, and candied pistachios, topped with perfectly cooked steak. I loved every bite. The deviled egg app was ok, and I'm not sure where the prosciutto crisps were that were supposed to be on it, but $12 for 3 eggs felt a little overpriced for what we got. The Bloody Mary was served spicy as I had requested, and I appreciate that they didn't use a charcuterie's worth of stuff for a garnish. An olive and pickle were all that was needed. Cheers! Our party enjoyed the grilled salmon which was cooked perfectly and not dry. A classic burger that is worth coming back for. Their mac-n-cheese hits the spot if you crave comfort food. The best dish of the 3 was the bacon wedge which was almost a whole head of lettuce. The Southwest Nachos didnt have tortilla chips, but waffle fries,but wasn't bad for an app. The charcuterie board wasn't worth the $20. They used a sausage roll you would find in a mall, the prosciutto was grey and scary looking. I think this is my 4th time to visit. I would give this latest visit a 3.5 stars. Nothing horribly wrong about the meal, but nothing outstanding either. Friendly and attentive staff. Great location. While out for a drive on a perfect day we chose Port Huron, partially because we were recommended to eat here. You have to go into the Port Huron Convention Center, attached to a hotel but once you enter Freighters is straight ahead. Upon approaching I didn't see many diners but soon realized, they're outside on the patio with a good view of the water. Umbrella tables and comfortable chairs, strings of Edison bulb lights for nighttime ambience. The food delivered to other diners looked Amazing! Shaun was our server and he was professional, attentive at just the right times though I'm used to a little more interaction when dining out. Like the server sharing their name when greeting the table, so if we needed anything we'd know who to ask for. I found out his name looking on the receipt. He wasn't rude or cold, maybe that's how he rolls? We started lunch with Bloody Mary's and they were fantastic! Rim coated with a seasoned celery salt, really tasty mix that had a peppery zip, perfect alcohol kick and garnished with dill pickle slices and green olives! It was going down quick because we were hungry and it seemed like our food was taking a longer time to arrive than anticipated for the number of diners noted. When it did arrive it looked amazing and tasty. My friend had the Wagu burger and they said it was fabulous, good size patty, cheese was melty goodness along with the classic toppings. Toasted bun I believe. I had Chicken Club Sandwich and it also was D-Lish! The chicken breast could have been pounded thinner, to cover the bread surface better but also make sandwich more "level". Toasted bread was cut on diagonal so corners of 3 slices had nothing between them or just condiments. It had avocado slices on it and when biting through thicker chicken breast, the toppings got squeezed out or I had to bite at angle because too "tall" to fit into my mouth. The fries were hot, crispy due to lightly coated for more edges to sizzle. The decor was modern and simple, with warmer colors outside and cooler, darker grays inside. Patio furniture was standard height and from what I saw of indoor seating were all bar top height tables and chairs. But I didn't walk around the whole dining area. Restrooms were M & W, clean and mobility accessible, as was the entire restaurant. Lots of parking in the large lot, with plenty of handicapped parking. Prices were $-$$ but totally acceptable for the high quality dining experience. We did not see any freighter action on the water, but I will definitely be back! read more

Great food and fast service! We went to Freighter's for dinner and ordered the fried calamari, filet mignon medium rare, parmesan crusted whitefish, and NY cheesecake. Overall the food was very delicious and our waitress was very friendly and helpful in recommendations. The fried calamari lacked a bit of flavor but it was fried well. We really enjoyed the filet mignon as it was cooked to a perfect medium rare. The whitefish was also delicious and seasoned well but I would have preferred a bit more crunch. Lastly, the cheesecake was creamy and I would recommend it! We also ordered some holiday drinks and enjoyed all of them. The restaurant is connected to the convention center and DoubleTree hotel, so since there was an event going on that night, it was very difficult for us to find parking in the shared parking lot but once we found parking, it was an easy walk into the restaurant. I really enjoyed our view of the Blue Water Bridge at night when it was all lit up. I highly recommend sitting next to a window during your meal! It is also a short walk to the bridge from the restaurant and you can take a leisurely walk under the bridge after your meal. You won't regret it! read more

The fish and chips were absolutely perfect. I was all hyped up for the Zip Chicken and it was decent but the sauce was a lot gloopier than I was expecting and there weren't enough snap peas. The mashed potatoes were solid though! We also weren't expecting it to be in a hotel but it's just inside the main doors so it didn't really matter. Went to Port Huron on a random Tuesday, looking for somewhere to eat I stumble upon this place. Located inside the Double Tree this restaurant had a great view of the Lake. Only complaint is it was almost 45 between when we came in and when we got our food. My friend got the Diablo Burger while I got the fried chicken sandwich. Disregarding the wait, the food was delicious and boy were our drinks strong. Overall a good place to grab a bite with a beautiful view of the Blue Water Bridge. read more

My wife and I took a two day excurtion to the St. Clare/Port Huron area. On one of our day trips we stopped here for lunch. Great choice. Our waitress was very personable and answered all our questions. My wife had the Grilled Steak Crostini for her lunch, and she said it was the best thing she ate on our whole trip. I had the fish tacos and they were solid. She ordered the Fizzy Freighter really enjpyed it, she would have orederd a second but it was about 90 degrees out side and we had some walking to do. Really nice place, beutiful, very classy. It is attached to a convension center. We might try to stay in the hotel next time. Just came here today and downgrading my rating from a 4 to 2. First, while going through the menu, I struggled to find anything relatively healthy and dairy free. So many things either fried or covered in cheese. And then I saw the fish tacos that I had last time and they sounded so much better than the very very boring tacos I was served - they did not put the slaw on the tacos, which woulda helped immensely. Second, the poor excuse for a wedge salad I received today. (I am dairy free so I ordered with the bleu cheese and dressing). Look at the pic I attached. Normal dinner size fork and the salmon is rather puny next to it. And freaking salty!! It tasted like frozen salmon that was defrosted quickly, seasoned heavily and then way over cooked. Stale croutons. Very limited salad dressing options even if I could eat dairy so I requested salsa to use as a dressing. Very generous serving of bacon and it was not bacon bits. That was good but the bacon was cold...the not as crispy pieces of bacon were a tad greasy. Cold greasy bacon Unsure if we will be back - yes, great views of the water and boats but that is all they have going for then right now. read more

My husband and I have eaten here once before and we were in the area so we thought we would stop for lunch this afternoon. Service was extremely slow and it wasn't busy there at all. He ordered the Freighter Burger and I ordered the Mediterranean Panino. He said the burger wasn't anything special for the money and the Panino was mostly bread and lettuce and lacking the other vegetables. Not even sure if they were portobello mushrooms since I saw only one slice that I expected to be bigger than a Cremini mushroom. Don't think we'll be going back. read more
