In town on business and wanted something non-chain and good. This had some nice reviews and the burgers looked good so I decided to give it a go.... Walked and sat myself as the waitress said I could. After I sat down a waitress brought me a menu immediately and too my drink order (Pepsi products - I won't deduct points for that, but it was tempting. I opted for a water - it was current vintage, clear, cold and a typical clean water taste. I asked about the burgers and the waitress indicated it was one of her favorite things to order. So, I ordered a cheeseburger & fries. It also comes with soup and coleslaw. Homemade soup. Home. Made. I order chicken noodle. It was brought out immediately, as in 5 seconds later. Just a cup, but it was homemade and it was excellent. The burger came out very fast as well. Very short wait. It was large and it was hot. The fry portion was large as well. I took a bite of the burger. Excellent! Very, very good. It's a burger so I will refrain from using 1000 words when a few will do. Get. The. Burger. The staff was friendly and laughing and seemed in very good moods all around. My waitress was nice and checked on me and my meal regularly but not annoyingly often. All in all, I recommend this place. Excellent hot food and excellent service. The building is a typical square building with windows around. Typical diner set up, if you're turned off or simply attracted to a place for how it looks, then that's your call. read more

Okay the best thing about the American Grill, the price! Great price for typical diner food. We can feed our 4 kids and 2 adults for less than $35 and the food is good. Staff gets the job done with quality service. I must say one of the features at breakfast is the sausage links. Probably the best I have ever had at a restaurant. I'll start this off by saying that maybe I've been spoiled by all the options I have living in a metropolitan area (Detroit). Also, I'm originally from the PH area, so I know my way around the diners. Well, the diners that were there 15 years ago and are still there now. So, when I was in town over the weekend, and it came time for breakfast, I was really hoping for something good. I love Cavis and Manis'. Great diners. Ted's Coney Island would've been good, too, because you can't get chili like that where I live. Instead, we ended up at American Grill. We were all hungover and really hungry, so the food was adequate, but I would never go to American Grill again by choice. I ordered the half order of biscuits and gravy. It's pretty hard to mess up, but the biscuits were dry, and then there's the gravy. There was so much of it that I wasn't sure if there were any biscuits in there. I also got a side of cheesy potatoes, and when the waitress served it, I got worried. It looked like a pile of yellow cream. The hash brown style potatoes weren't cooked, and swimming in cheese soup. Yet somehow those were pretty good. Only one of my friends' food looked good. He had steak and eggs, and the steak was surprisingly big. Our waitress was good - no problems there. She was good about refilling our coffee and water. At some point, though, a guy who I'm assuming is one of the owners came out to fill our coffee and water. His hands were really shaky, so he ended up spilling water all over the table every time he filled a glass. He made no effort or offer to clean it up. Very reasonable prices. Clean. Good food. Had potato soup which was good and chicken pita. One of the softest freshest pieces of pita bread I've had at a restaurant. Not fancy, but family dining done well. The old restaurant burned down a while ago and has reopened, so the place is actually open contrary to what you might find on the web. Found this place on Yelp and wanted to try it a few times before reviewing. Some of the reviews were not very flattering. Every meal I've had here has been outstanding for being a diner. Some of the locals have told me that the original building burned down and recently has been rebuilt. There are a couple of other places around the corner that I have been wanting to try but every time I drive by this place I have to pull in. Service has also been outstanding and the prices are reasonable. If you haven't been here in a while, you may want to revisit. read more

I'm a little reluctant to give 5 stars, because that sounds like it's perfect. However, 4 of 5 stars is only 80%, and it's better than that. Judging this by what it is: an American diner, it doesn't get much better. The menu has a wide range, and while not everything I've eaten here is fantastic, it's always good, and some of the food is superb. The restaurant is well-kept and the service is consistently decent. Not perfect, but very good and very consistent. You can have a good, filling meal here for a low price and never regret coming. My recommendations: fish & chips and omelettes. Food portions are huge in the States but sometimes lacking in flavour and freshness but not the American Grill. Found through yelp, great choice for breakfast/ lunch while in Port Huron, MI for the Silverstick tournament. 5 meals for under $50 including drinks, taxes and tips usually means fast food but not in this case. However do not order their chicken wrap..it was the most boring sandwich I have ever had and I have gotten more flavor at other diners. Looking for a good diner..go to Nicks Four Roses or Teds. This family restaurant was pretty good and our waiter danny was very friendly to start us off we had cold water which was perfect on a hot day,next we got salad and soup the salad was pretty good the ranch tasted homemade. The lemon rice soup was good and hit the spot but it had no chicken... the breadbasket was ok but could use some breadsticks.The fish and chips was delicious. it was three pieces of cod golden fried to perfection with a generous amount of french fries for around 8 bucks. My parents on the other hand got the gyro platter it came with pita tomatoes onions and tzyaki (tuh-zee-key)and 4 pieces tiny pieces of lamb meat. Everything on it was good except the dried out burnt skin like pieces of lamb. Which was horrible. The rice pudding was good but not that creamy we will be back but steer away from the gyro. read more

I'm not sure if today was an off day or what we saw all the positive reviews and were so excited to try this place. We went there this afternoon. The waitress don't know her name came to the table I wasn't ready yet she said okay and kinda threw her hands up like annoyed. Fast forward my family and I order our food, I asked for a chicken sandwich with just lettuce and Mayo, no cheese, no tomato. Seems easy enough. She delivers my families meals, not mine and asks me if I'm allergic to tomatoes I said no she okay I'll have the cook remove them. I was like uh okay.... She brings mine out it has cheese that was melted into all the couple tiny chicken strips on this sandwich. I politely mentioned I asked for no Swiss cheese, she then asked me if I was allergic I said no... she said she would take it back and have the cook scrape it off.. I said never mind, I don't want anything to eat. She then told me she was going to get in trouble. I said sorry don't want it. So I sat there while my family had their meals. She never checked in on them once to see if they needed refills, she never asked to see how things tasted or if they needed any additional condiments she abandoned our table until she brought the check. My husband then asked for a to go box for our child. She never brought one she just stood there filling up jelly containers, I guess that was more important than her table. He ended up walking to a station and grabbing our own to go box. I noticed the walls next to the table were gross and the lip on the table had a bunch of old build up of food and gunk. Never in all my years have I ever had an experience like this at any restaurant, not even a low end fast food place. I went up the road to Jimmy Johns and got a sandwich with no tomatoes and guess what they got it right the first time and it was way cheaper than this chicken sandwich with a couple small chicken strips laid out on it. Love the Spaghetti and Meat Sauce senior portion here. Served with garlic toast, it's just the right size bowl for lunch. I've also been here on a day when they serve Cream of Cauliflower Soup. Food is good but the waiter we had last visit was awful. Didn't get his name but his hair was dark, long, and pulled back. He only came to our table once after he brought our food. We waited a long time for our bill and a box he never came. My husband waved at him 3 times and he ignored it. We finally asked a nearby waitress for a box and our bill. She brought us a box but no bill. We got tired of waiting so we went up to pay and he walked right past me and went to another table. The girl at the register asked how she could help and I said we need our bill. She asked who waited on us and I said him. She just said he's busy at another table you'll have to wait. We already waited a long time. Then she helped someone else. We should have just left. The food is really good though. I give 5 stars for the food and zero for this waiter so I come up with 3. Stopped here for breakfast with two teenage grandsons. Servers were fast and attentive. Everything was clean, place was very busy and almost filled to capacity. My husband and I both had the farmers omelette, lots of filling and cheese, with hash browns inside and on the side.
