Had a great experience with American Insulation. We have a 70 year old Cape Cod with a lot of strange features and DIY repairs done over the years. Our upstairs was consistently 10+ degrees warmer than our downstairs. Rick came out, gave a detailed assessment of the issue and his suggestions for fixing it. His price was fair, he and his crew showed up on time for the appointment, and they did a clean and efficient job of insulating our attic and knee walls. He even ran out to Home Depot to grab some material that his crew had forgotten, so he wouldn't have to come back another time to finish. Great, professional attitude from Rick, April, and the rest. I needed some insulation to be added to my roof and requested quotes from 3-5 insulators in Chicago. Out of the group, American Insulation was the lowest quote AND they were the #1 reviewed insulator on Yelp. I quickly chose them and set a reservation. When Rick and his assistant arrived, they had some problems at first finding a way to access the attic (no attic door was ever installed for some reason in my house). No worries, they managed to access the attic. But then Rick finds out there is barely any insulation! They originally scoped out the work assuming their would be SOME insulation. But true to his word, he just charges me his estimated price without any upcharge and I was super grateful for that. American Insulation is the best and were VERY fair in their quotes! Our crawl space under our kitchen was a mess. Rick and Kyle came out last week and in two hours fixed the whole thing up. Rick had pointed out that the old insulation had been done improperly. He removed all of the old stuff and then installed new insulation the way it should be done. In addition he noted that the heating ductwork was not connected properly in the crawl space and he fixed that too. My kitchen is so much warmer now. My house was built in the mid 1950's and I've been using a spare bedroom upstairs for a work from home office. I noticed was colder in that upstairs office than the first floor by quite a bit. Years ago a contractor had mentioned the insulation in the attic was way below current standards so I gave American Insulation a call. They were able to come out quickly for an estimate, and were very straightforward and honest. They increased the attic insulation from 2" to the current standard which is more like 12" ( I forget the exact measurement recommended.) By the time they left, about 3 hours later I could already notice a big difference in the office. The first and second floors of my house are now at the same temperature within about 1 degree.. Which is terrific!! I'm expecting a similar change in the Summer, when the 2nd floor would be much hotter than the 1st due to heat from the attic.. Thanks a lot Rick and April! read more

This winter was BRUTAL on our 60+ year old house!!!!! I purchased the house about a year and a half ago, and man do these inspectors miss a lot in their reports just to push the sale of the house on behalf of the Realtor. Case in point, nothing was mentioned about the existing insulation in our attic (or lack there of), which Owen from American Insulation pointed out as being vermiculite. This element was used many a years ago before the pink panther decided to change careers, and can be known to contain asbestos, really something I wish the inspector would have informed us of, especially since we have a newborn. Our problem on the outside of the house was lack of insulation that caused heat to escape quickly from our attic. This allowed snow to rapidly melt from the second story roof onto the first floor roof, causing damning and giant icicles to form onto the gutters. I knew after this winter that we had to address the attic situation with more insulation. Owen did a fantastic job of giving me options to test the existing vermiculite for asbestos and remove the material, which can be a very expensive process. However, his recommendation was to blow insulation over the existing vermiculite, cut a few more vents in the roof to ensure proper ventilation, and seal up the attic door. A couple days later now and our home already feels a lot warmer than before. We have already found ourselves turning down the heat. Thank you Owen and American Insulation!!! I was incredibly impressed by this company. Owen came out to look at our project and was honest and informative. I appreciate that he approached the project as a problem solver, even though the solution that he identified and provided us with didn't result in an immediate sale for him. He also explained that there are different types of insulation - and he told us the pros and cons of what he sells and what he could do, while explaining the benefits and drawbacks of other insulation types. This was incredibly refreshing, especially since the other company we had come out downplayed all other insulation types - and presented his product as the only thing needed to solve our problems. Were very clean in putting down plastic on the floor and carpet to avoid tracking in any debris and finished the job. We hired American Insulation to address deficient work by a contractor we had hired 8 years ago after buying this home. Rick did a great and thorough job: adding venting the other contractor did far more sporadically; insulating an out-of-sight area the former contractor had left undone; replacing a old, inefficient wood-fiber insulation with fiberglass; and generally bring things up to snuff. April did a great job with follow-up on the business side, and communication was good and timely. No shortcuts anywhere. I highly recommend them. read more
