I am completely satisfied with the service I received from Lindemann. Initially I had an older gas fireplace (~10 years old or so) that would smell of natural gas while burning. Needing to get this taken care of, I converted it back to the original wood burning version. Unfortunately, after the first burn with real wood, our main floor smelled like a campsite. Needing to figure this out, I asked Lindemann if they would come out and look over my fireplace. Steve came over promptly and spent at least 1 hour with me free of charge answering all my questions, and basically talking through what might be the cause. He did not pressure me into any service Lindemann offered, rather he laid out all the options and the costs associated with each. After a productive conversation we settled on performing one more experiment burning real wood, to see if we could get that to work without smelling up the house. Unfortunately, that didn't work either! Which lead me to the only other reasonable option - purchase a retrofit direct vent gas system. Having spent the time with me talking things through I was tempted to buy the system from Lindemann outright. However, I did go ahead and get a quote from another company to compare prices. The prices were very similar, but Lindemann's (Steve's) customer service to that point had earned my trust. I purchased the direct vent system through Lindemann. The install of the system went smoothly and we now enjoy a direct vent system that produces ample heat and is super easy to use (just click the remote on). What used to be our coldest room in our home is now our warmest. I also appreciated the quality of work Steve performed. He took the time to understand my concerns and addressed them during the install. His level of care, attention to detail, and his customer-first attitude lead me to give Lindemann my full recommendation. read more

Stay away. All I wanted was to have my chimney swept and dryer ducts cleaned. When I tried to schedule it they suggested the whole home package which included those two, an annual furnace check, and an annual A/C inspection. The woman on the phone explained that with the chimney sweep I get a full chimney inspection. With cameras and videos of my chimney. I explained I didn't want that. I just wanted it cleaned and she said this is the only way they do this. So I agreed. Bought the whole home package which was a good deal. When the chimney sweep came he pointed out all of these issues with my chimney and said he'd send me a quote. I asked if he cleaned the chimney and he said no, he didn't. He just inspected it. So I explained that I don't want a quote. I just wanted my chimney cleaned. And he finally agreed to this. I then got a quote. $15k. Their only goal is to inspect your chimney so they can get you to do all sorts of extra work. Remember. 20 years ago people were just cleaning chimneys. Or not. They weren't doing video to identify every crack. And you know what? It worked. Before this technology there weren't tons of chimney fires happening. It wasn't the risk they tell you. I'm not opposed to technology. I actually run a tech company. I'm opposed to companies using it to instill fear so that they can charge you for unnecessary work. I'd stay away from them. Wow--if only I had read the reviews before working with this company. Hopefully, my experience will save someone else from the same mistake. I have never dealt with a company so unprofessional and dishonest. Our home, built in the 1980s, hadn't had the chimneys serviced in some time, so I called to schedule a cleaning and inspection. The salesperson arrived, told me I didn't need a cleaning (which I've since seen is a common theme in other reviews), and immediately launched into a pushy sales pitch. September 6th, he inspected both our gas and wood-burning fireplaces and suddenly declared that neither was operable. Even more concerning--he said the wood-burning fireplace didn't need cleaning at all. I was left with no real explanation of the supposed issues, just a vague and high-pressure attempt to sell services we didn't need. Shortly after, I received an aggressive email demanding $298 for the inspection, phone calls without even a detailed invoice explaining the findings. They did send over the detailed listing of repairs eventually. Since then, I've continued to receive hostile follow-ups, including a letter dated 9/29/2025 threatening legal action to collect the balance. Absolutely absurd. In contrast, I've worked with several other home service providers recently, and not one has ever treated me this way. The difference in professionalism is night and day. I strongly caution anyone considering Lindemann Chimney. In my experience, they are shady, aggressive, and dishonest. I would never recommend them. read more

Our condo association recently hired Lindemann to install a chimney cap to the buildings boiler chimney per Lindemann's recommendation. The communication was very poor throughout the entire process. We payed a down payment for the cap order and had to follow up multiple times regarding order status. The association also reached out asking if there was anything we should be aware of ahead of the install date so that we can prepare and communicate any needs to residents. We never heard back. Once ready, Lindemann sent two tech's out to install the cap. While at the property the tech said they needed to reschedule for the following week as they need a boom lift to get the cap to the roof. It was strange they did not prepare this ahead of time considering they are the ones recommending the cap upon a previous onsite inspection. The association recently had our parking lot professionally repaved and communicated that the lift will need to access the roof from the street and not through the association's parking lot due to weight concerns. Eric (Lindemann tech) confirmed that street access should be no problem, but if they must access through the lot, Lindemann would bring weight distributing planks for the lift so to not cause damage to the new pavement. After several reschedules, Lindemann showed up to finally install the cap. This time however, four large trucks pulled into our lot, parking in unit owner spaces. They also pulled the lift into the lot and did NOT use weight distribution planks as promised. The cherry on top was once the cap was installed, the crew took off and LEFT BEHIND the large boom lift within our parking lot without permission to do so. The lift remained in our lot aka on the new pavement from Friday until Monday(!) This experience was terribly chaotic, disorganized and unprofessional. Communication was nearly non-existent and they did not follow through on what was promised. When we reached out regarding this experience, again, we never heard back. However, we did hear from Lindemann after regarding payment request and a change to their banking... The Association has long recommended Lindemann to its unit owners for their annual chimney cleanings and repair needs, but unfortunately, do to this recent experience we will be looking for a new provider. read more

I need the stack pipe for fireplace repaired after some ice slide down the roof. I called Lindemann got an appointment in two days. Mark came out for an estimate and met with the roofer to coordinate what needed to be done. About 3 days later I was told the parts were available. Mark did all the coordination with the roofer and a week and a half later we were setup . The roofer came out 2 hrs before to do his thing. Mark showed up right on time. Had them here twice. First time this spring, they said one chimney had a lot of cracking on the concrete cap. (We had been told this in a previous inspection by a different company and the photo did look bad.) So we had them do it and it was a very professional job. I would have given them 5 stars at that time. We may have overpaid, but it couldn't have been by much considering the labor involved in doing concrete work at the top of a scaffolding. At the same time, they said that the other chimney needed a new metal cap and a liner. Again we had previously been told that the metal cap was rusting and pictures confirmed this. We told them we would get back to them before the fall for that. So we called them out in the late summer and they did another inspection. Now we needed the cap, the liner, and a new firebox. I asked the cost of the firebox and the tech told me $7000 which sounded insanely expensive. When he gave me the written estimate, the labor and parts for the firebox were rolled into a single $7000 charge. What's more there was a separate $1800 charge to remove the old firebox! The total estimate for all the work was over $11,000. I looked up the cost of the firebox and found the exact make and model being sold for under $2000. I was told that the work would only take a couple days, and given the limited number of workers you could possible have on the job at one time, the price seemed pretty high. The supposed reason the firebox needed replacement was some surface rust on the outside of the box (possibly due to the bad cap) and as slight bulge from heat at the back of the box. Banging on the all-metal box with a wrench produced the ring of solid metal. It didn't seem like it was in bad shape to me so I went looking for a second opinion. I called a Chicagoland chimney company who charged $195 just for the inspection, but afterwards the tech said that all it needed was the cap. They recommended a custom-made stainless steel cap with a lifetime warranty for $700 installed. I gave them go-ahead and they installed it today - less than three weeks after the inspection. They gave me a picture of the liner when the old cap was off and it looked like new. Two things I learned: 1. Free inspections can be very expensive. 2. Stay away from Lindemann read more

Lindemann's came out for a chimney cleaning, which they didn't do because I did not need it, but tried to sell me a whole new system instead after the technician asked for my building's age. Later on, they sent a proposal for $10,700. I decided to get another opinion. One repair shop said that companies try to do that, and another technician who also inspected my fireplace said it wasn't necessary. We had used Lindemann for over 10 years. We always were pleased with their service. About every other year their service person would tell us we didn't need to have our chimney cleaned because we must not have burned enough wood or it burned so clean there was no need. Well, last fall when the service person finished his inspection he informed us we had an event and we needed to pay $10,000 to repair our chimney. When we advised him the service person from 2018 told us it was so clean it didn't need serviced but now $10k? He informed us that person was no longer with the company due to performance and that we didn't need to worry because insurance would pay for it! Well, obviously we complained and after repeated attempts to get a reasonable explanation we were told the owner would contact us - which never happened. We left several messages and heard nothing further....completely ghosted! BEWARE!!!! We would give them zero stars if possible. Lindemann had good Yelp reviews so I submitted an online information request on the website and they called back within minutes. The price was fair and they were available quickly. The serviceman arrived on time, completed the work thoroughly, and noted that the screen one one would likely need replaced. He had a screen available and we had him switch it out (which was good since it appeared to be difficult to do!). We had them out in April to put in a new damper and make sure the chimney was good to use in our new house. Today the damper cord broke after 8 months and only using it 3x. We called them and they will not come out to fix it or look at it until Tuesday next week (5 days afterwards). This occurred during one of the coldest days so far this year. They will verbally tell you one thing but won't put it in the contract and fight back to complete the work. Also they don't do a good job of cleaning up after the work is done. They inspected my chimneys and found one of the flues was cracked. I did know this. The man told me it would cost over 6K to replace the flue. Alternatively, I could get a ventless insert for just over 2K. I went with the insert. It has no fan. It throws no heat. It cost a fortune. Basically, it's pretty, but not functional. Two stars because the tech guys are top notch. The office and design staff are rude and unhelpful. They deserve zero stars I was understanding about a staff issue in their end and was pleasant about rescheduling when asked. But when they were a no-show/no-call for that rescheduled appointment, I called the next day and asked what happened I was told flatly "you did not have an appointment yesterday." I expressed surprise and said that I had an email confirmation from their business confirming yesterday's date and time if she needed to have it forwarded to her. The conversation got no better with the office staff person as she told me some nonsense about the injured tech person (who was home on doctor's orders) was at fault for the missed appointment. When I questioned that, she put me on the "drop dead" hold...you know, the one where you hold for so long that you know they just want you to hang up? When I called back, I got someone else in the office and I was finally able to reschedule. This frustrating and rude interaction would not have been necessary if Lindemann had shown up for the appointment or contacted me to let me know in advance then rescheduled. Throughout these two phone calls, I was treated as if I was inconveniencing them Fast forward to the new date. It was convenient for them but not so much for me. So I arranged for another adult member of the family to be home for the work. The tech guy had an earlier opening and called me. The other adult was not available yet so I changed my plans and returned home (a 20-minute round trip for me) leave a key hidden outside for the tech. He did the work and my adult family member arrived just in time to see him finish the work. No bill was presented at the time. Then about four days later, I went on a business trip for the first time in almost two years. I was gone for almost a full week. As I was catching up on work the day that I returned, I learned that two people at the meeting had just been diagnosed with COVID breakthrough infections. In the midst of that stressful phone call, I got a call from Lindemann. I thought...oh, no, maybe they are calling to tell me that the tech has COVID and my family member was exposed. So I asked my colleague to hold while I picked up the call. It was the same rude staff person I spoke with before. She was calling about the bill for the day done 11 days before. I explained that I was in the middle of something for work, I had just returned from a business trip that day and would pay the bill promptly. She flatly told me that she was calling to collect NOW. She said that they could not pay the tech until I paid a $900 bill. The work was done 11 days earlier I was stunned. I told her that I would check my email for the bill and would pay them promptly but I could not do it at this minute as I had a work colleague on hold. I had done business with this company for years and their office staff gave me no respect. I understand the call as a reminder but her tone and use of words suggested that I was a deadbeat trying to about paying the bill When they received my payment, I got an email supposedly from someone in a management position with Lindemann thanking me for my business. I responded that the tech was top notch but given how I was treated, I would be finding someone else for my fireplace work. We had Lindemann come out to do a chimney repair with their masonry team - slawek was the lead guy. His team showed up every day, early in the am and worked late every day. They did an excellent job, cleaned up after themselves, explained any questions i had and were overall very professional. After the chimney project we had our windows and siding replaced with another company, which cause some additional cracks in bricks elsewhere around our house (not related to the chimney), and i asked if they would touch it up... they were at my house in no joke 45 minutes and took care of everything. This is not a "fake" review. The inspection crew came in, used a camera, showed my husband what was going on in the chimney, and made a proposal. They came on time, quick, and professional. The work crew came a little early! They, too, were quick, clean, and professional. They asked me if I had any questions and let me know each step of the way what they were doing. Why am I giving them three stars and not five? Well, this is not the first time we have worked with them. They came less than a year ago and did some exterior sealing, which they again recommended doing. Why would we pay to have something done if it was already done? Was the seal not actually applied (it's on the top of the chimney so I guess I'd have to climb up there to see if they did it, which now that I think about maybe I should...) the first time, which is why they recommended it again? I usually don't write long reviews, but I felt this experience required one. This was probably the most outrageous attempt at inflating an invoice I have seen!!!! We had them out for an inspection on our chimney as part of the sale of our house. They arrived on time and were very professional. Until they started the inspection. Mind you my house was built in the late 50's. As soon as he saw inside part of the fireplace, before even visually inspecting it, he said "I can already tell, I bet your gonna need the smoke box lined". Than he looked inside, and said "yep, you have to have this lined, that's code since 2006". How much? $2500!!! Than on the exterior inspection, he said the brick needed tuck pointing because a little mortar was missing. "We'll have to tuck point the whole thing. If we just tuck point the affected areas, it'll look different. So we have to do the whole thing". They then sent a camera to inspect the inside. Half way up he says he spotted a crack in the mortar. I was watching the camera too. As he literally squinted to look at the picture, he said "it's too high up to reach. I asked where the crack was on the camera. He said "see that tiny dark spot?" That missing mortar. He than proceeded to tell me the only fix is having to remove all clay tiles and than install a metal sleeve. I asked why he wouldn't be able to install the sleeve without removing the tiles? He said"the chimney area is proportional to the area of the smoke box. If you you shrink the flue, the fireplace won't be as efficient ". How much? $3500!!!! Total? (There were other small defects) $7000!!!!!! Than very casually he said " If you make a claim on your insurance, they'll pay for it all minus whatever deductible you have". WHAT??????!!!!!!!!! This was a insurance fraud attempt if I ever saw one!!!! 2 days later I had another company over for a second opinion. Guess there estimate? $1000!!!! I asked about the smoke box lining. They said it's in good shape and your fireplace is grandfathered. It doesn't need it. I asked about the missing mortar and replacing the entire flue. Sent a camera up. I said there's a spot they said was missing mortar. He looked at all the tiles and said he saw no missing mortar and the only thing he thought was there was spot that the mortar was slightly overfilled causing a small bump. That the "missing mortar " was a shadow!!! He showed me as he moved the light around and sure enough, no crack. The parts he agreed with was the tuck pointing. But was dumbfounded by the claim of tuck pointing the entire chimney. He said only the small areas need it. Also he agreed with the cracked limestone lip thingy on the top exterior of the chimney. He only found 1 thing different from Lindemann. He said the metal cap was rusted and needed sanding and paint. If he did the other work, he would just do it for free. read more

Do NOT use this company to service or inspect your chimenys. They are more about the upsell, then the service. Just read these reviews and you will see that there is a theme here of them being focused on just selling you services that are not always necessary. They don't do a quality inspection or cleaning job. If they did, they wouldn't nearly find as many problems or be recommend expensive repairs. I had them out for a chimney cleaning and they did not do the cleaning. Instead they tried to sell me on $6K worth of needless solutions to a problem that was corrected by a more thorough chimney cleaning job done by another company. Instead of spending 20 minutes wasting time in my home office on a sales pitch, they should have spent more time cleaning my damn chimney. I expected more from a $200+ cleaning appt. I ended up getting a second opinion from another company after seeing their astronomical quote. That company was able to properly clean my chimney, fix 90% of the problem, and helped me to avoid unnecessary flue liner installation, etc. The other company found that parts of my chimney had certainly had bad creosote build up, but it was not unclean-able. Lindemann lost a customer for life and their competitor gained one for life. The other firm I had do the job also helped me to confirm that Lindemann reported problems that did find to be evident. I know that Lindemann was trying to give me the perfect solution to a problem and something that solves 100% of the problem, but when a car has some problems, you don't just buy a new on, you go through options and determine what's best for you and consider your safety and total cost of ownership. They did not give me options to my problem, and I do not feel like they rendered the services I paid them to perform, and they should have performed a more a thorough inspection. read more

We had a fabulous experience with Lindemann. Nick was our guy! We started the process in November getting estimates realizing we were hitting their busy season. We had a total of 3 bids. Work was suggested and frankly we were a bit dismayed at prices we were getting from other two. We purchased our property 3 years ago realizing that the chimney might have a few issues. When Nick pulled up, he was able to give us first hand information because their company had serviced and replaced a liner for previous owner. Even had the dates the work was done. That was good to know. After checking everything we needed less than expected. The price was more than fair and a bit lower than the other two - but then again they were saying we needed unnecessary work. Nick felt we could have the work done before the holidays and he delivered - the day after Thanksgiving. We also asked if he could help us with our hearth - the brick was beat up so we asked about adding a layer of sliced river stone to clean up the look. He said he could and would have the stone mason who was rebuilding our back wall of the fireplace help with that! The work was phenomenal. It gave us a whole new look which pushed me to paint the aged brick. Not only did we get a great functioning fireplace, we also got an updated look. I'm thrilled. After calling our usual place to get it fixed and was told that they couldn't come out for 4-5 days, and calling 2 other places to get the same story, we called Lindemann. They called back within the hour and said that a repairman was working nearby and he could swing by and see what our problem was. Both recommended complicated, extensive and costly repairs. After consulting with my home inspector, he recommended Lindemann. Turns out, no repairs were needed at all. I had them over to my house for chimney work; they told me they couldn't do the work I requested, and told me that they can only install a faux gas fireplace insert. They also used transparent scare tactics as part of their sales pitch. I had another two companies come out, who were licensed and reputable, who told me that there was no problem doing the work, and explained clearly how it would be done. Furthermore, they were sloppy and lazy at best, or passive aggressive at worst: the worker didn't close the damper before he left, even after I'd specifically asked him to make sure he does.
