We had American Legend build our home, and it was the worst experience we have ever had with a builder. Throughout the process, I had to constantly monitor construction to prevent major mistakes. At closing, homeowners are only given one hour to inspect the property. If you don't identify every single issue during that short timeframe, the builder will later claim you accepted the home "as is." On the rare occasion they do agree to address a problem, the work is performed cheaply and with poor craftsmanship. The jobsite was never properly maintained. I personally found beer cans, gloves, chicken bones, wood, stones, and bricks buried in the yard under the sod when repairing dead spots. When they replaced and stained part of our fence, they used mismatched stain colors, leaving half the fence one color and the other half another. The yard was improperly graded, with construction debris left in place and simply covered with soil. As a result, the yard sits 5-7 inches higher than the sidewalk and driveway. The overall workmanship reflects speed and cost-cutting, not quality. I have yet to meet a single American Legend homeowner who is satisfied with their experience. American Legend is building the home next door to us. And their contractors are consistently working before/after allowable hours. Have sound systems set up in the house so loud it literally shakes the house multiple houses down the street. And the best is they leave nails and screws in our yard and in front of our driveway. When you call to make a complaint, the response is "They aren't our employees, so you have to prove any damage otherwise it's not our problem." read more

I never heard a No from Blake! High work ethics for a young man. Things did come up in our first months n he took care of them immediately, I heard from other neighbors here at Treeline their experiences with their builder is a nightmare. In Dec 2025, American Legend Homes kept our $100,000 home deposit and refused to transfer the funds to purchase another American Legend Home after we decided the original home was not a good fit for our family and our 4 children. American Legend sold the original home 2 months later in Feb 2026 for the same price and still refused to transfer (or even partially refund) our deposit. During those 2 months, American Legend continued using the house as their model home and place of business. Sadly, despite our multiple attempts, American legend refused to meet to discuss in-person or over the phone, and instead directed us to their law firm. Furthermore, when we initiated a lower-cost AAA arbitration per the contract, American Legend refused to participate unless we engaged in a higher-cost AAA arbitration approach. My experience with American Legends was amazing before closing date. Lisa and Donna were great during the whole process, even after my several back and forth visits until we decided what home to buy. However the warranty process is a scam. I had 3 tickets open, and the guy that came to my house was clearly programmed to skip any responsibility without even checking what was going on. Ticket 1: Microwave malfunction. Despite the appliance is the problem, I could see that the breaker was returning amber light after restart, which is not ok. He first tried to convince me that this is what we should expect to happen, and after checking all other breakers, when I asked him if all other breakers were failing by not returning amber lights, he changed his mind. I also asked him to check if it could be any problem with the microwave outlet, and he told me that microwave was hardwired. WHAT? Long story short: the electrical company came, changed the breaker (that was bad indeed) and checked the outlet (surprise, the microwave was not hardwired). I'm still waiting for Whirlpool to replace the appliance. Ticket 2: Silicone caulking loosen outside to secure HVAC pipes and wires. He asked me to check my "30 days warranty checklist" as caulking is not covered. In fact he asked me handful times to check my 30 days warranty checklist (like I am a dumb person). Well, if a silicone caulking can't last 3 months without getting loosen, it's clearly a warranty problem. Not for him. He refused to even check what was going on. Ticket 3: Irrigation system coverage. I have a few brown spots in my lawn, several locations. After checking I could see that these areas were not getting enough water (1/10 inch in 10 minutes comparing to 2/10 inch in areas covered by the same zone). First, without even checking, he told me that my measurement process was wrong. When asking what should be the right one, he didn't answer. Second, he told me that my warranty was completely void for irrigation system because I put down slab in my backyard, even considering that the area I was complaining about is covered by different zones (so I haven't move any head or pipes). Third, he tried to convince me that the irrigation system was approved by city, so, that's more than enough to prove that everything was ok. Fourth, he told me that Texas is really hot, everybody has dry lawns, and if I'm not a "green thumb" person to spend a lot of money in my yard, I should contact lawn companies like TruGreen to take care of my lawn. Lastly, the brown patches could be caused by debris or bad soil (which should be taken care by the builder I'm assuming) but no, he refused to do anything with this ticket as well. I signed the tickets as it was clear to me that I have no chance to take any reasonable discussion with him. I'm extremely disappointed in American Legend Homes in Lewisville, TX. I own a home in North Texas that is still under warranty until December 2025. I reached out to them early this year due to cracks in the walls, floor tiles and in the masonry on the outside. They did an assessment and came back with "no foundation issue". I wasn't convinced and had an outside engineering firm conduct an assessment weeks later and they said there WAS a foundation issue. I've given American Legend Homes an opportunity to make this right, but they are refusing. They should be ashamed of being a big corporate bully and not honoring their warranties. Just wanted to share my recent experience with American Legend, and, well, it wasn't exactly smooth sailing. Here's the lowdown: 1. "Fixed," but Not Really: So, they were in a rush to wrap things up and assured me they fixed everything. Turns out, not so much. Some issues lingered, and I felt a bit misled. 2. Bathroom Blues: Imagine your restroom turning into a public one during construction. Yeah, not fun. Hygiene took a backseat, and it left me a tad grossed out. 3. American Legend built our house in 2019 and up to closing the process was great. After that, they have been miserable to work with. They fight any warranty claim you place tooth and nail. I submitted a claim to have them fix my concrete patio that they poured when building the house. The denied it because the damage wasn't bad enough. The patio had rotated from the middle, raising 3 inches against the house and dropping 6 inches away from the house! They claimed that since there wasn't any proof that the install was done improperly they wouldn't cover it. So I had it torn out and proved that they didn't properly rebar it or pour it evenly, nor did they secure it to the stubs on the foundation. When I went to them again, they said they don't warranty that work at all. Meanwhile I'm out 15k to make it right. 0/10... would never recommend them. Disappointed with Pricing Transparency and Refund Refusal at American Legend Homes I wish we had looked more closely at reviews for American Legend's Design Gallery before signing a contract. If you're budgeting carefully or expect fair value for your money, I highly recommend asking for detailed upgrade pricing before signing anything -- and comparing with other builders. Here's what happened in our experience: 1. We walked away from our contract after realizing the design center prices were, in our opinion, extremely inflated -- often 2x to 5x retail. Financially, it felt irresponsible to move forward knowing this. 2. Despite the fact that construction had not begun, American Legend Homes refused to return our earnest money, which we feel is unfair given the circumstances. 3. From our perspective, the way incentives were presented, and the lack of early design cost transparency made the process and real value of the incentive feel very misleading. 4. While we understand builders can set their prices, the lack of upfront disclosure and the huge differences vs retail prices (for exact same materials) created a deeply stressful experience. 5. No sample pricing for most upgrades other than flooring estimates was provided before signing despite my requests -- that is something several other builders did share with us upfront. 6. Many friends and family who heard about our situation said they would no longer consider this builder, and we're sharing our story so others can make informed decisions. Our Story: We were initially impressed with the builder's community reputation and had a great early interaction with the community sales manager. We negotiated a meaningful incentive package, which we were told could be used for either structural upgrades or design center choices. Our salesperson recommended we used most of the incentive on the design center to reduce deposits. We followed that guidance, but we were expecting reasonable pricing. However, once we got to the design appointment, the upgrade costs were shocking. For example: 1. Frameless shower: ~$3K upgrade vs. $1.6K from a third-party vendor. Another $3K was quoted just to NOT build a pony wall between tub and shower. 2. Plumbing fixtures: ~$5K quoted for upgraded trims and faucets, which retailed for ~$2.5K online. (Price compared same item vs retail). 3. Outdoor ceiling fan: $1.3K quoted vs. $600 market price. Flooring: A wood flooring upgrade was quoted at ~$46K, on top of ~$20K of base flooring likely already costed us, totaling ~$66K -- for a floor that would cost ~$40K at retail including labor. (Price compared same item vs retail). 4. Tile: The base tile option was unattractive (12x12), and the nicer 12x24 option was, in our view, priced far above its market value (Price compared same item vs retail). 5. We also found that comparable builders offered lower prices (~$10k less) on popular structural upgrades (e.g., bedroom+bathroom additions and garage expansions). Ultimately, we decided to cancel -- the cost of the house with upgrades did not make financial sense vs comparable houses. Sadly, American Legend kept our earnest money, even though construction hadn't started. We are sharing this so other can be better informed. Am an American Legend home owner and felt obligated to warn prospective buyers regarding the quality of the sub-contractor work and how it relates to the 2 year warranty. Simply put, it is inadequate as so many of the install errors don't begin to show up until the 3rd year of living in the home. We are now facing a deck railing that is pulling away from the house and taking trim wood with it exposing the outside wall to the elements. We have tile on a bathtub that has collapsed as there was not a wall behind it to adhere to. We have an interior door that was not attached properly to the stud and needs to be repaired. The concrete on our porch and driveway already gave holes and cracks that are not being addressed. Concrete is cracking, upheaving and separating in a dozen places, Cracking ceiling, walls. I experienced what another reviewer said, very little gets fixed under warranty, they tell you to "keep an eye on it" or do a band-aid fix and then say sorry, out of warranty when it reverts back or insist it's normal. We have house that is a month old and they won't fix a major issue. On our close day inspection we noticed some blemishes on the hardwood flooring. They fixed them we thought. Jump to 20 days later and we have 20 hardwood boards that are cracked. They hired a third party inspector that reported that the floors had manufacturers defects and installation issues from poor installation. They still won't fix the issue. Other reviews have said beware that they don't have much concern for the customer after the sale. I believe this to be true. Find another builder. This company currently has a culture problem that is trickling down to the customer. Until they fix the issues within the company find a different builder. There are plenty of other companies that would appreciate the business. Update 5/3/2019 Nothing from our builder and they have blocked all the phone numbers that we had for communication. They obviously have no intention of trying to fix anything further. Also they are building a house next door and running all over our property. Destroying our yard in the process. He said that it will take 4-6 months and he will have someone check up on it everyday to keep the workplace cleaned. He also promised to put everything back to the way it was. All lies. The work area was a complete mess every single day. He messed up my fence and yard. The repair was not completed to standard. As there are still cracks visible on the fence. Our build experience with ALH was horrible from the very start when they poured the wrong foundation, installed windows, walls, and outdoor stone crooked, and forgot to attach a bedroom window to the framing. I recommend being very cautious when attempting to do business with American Legend. Here is my experience *attempting* to purchase a new house from them in them in the Lilyana subdivision which spans the cities of Celina and Prosper in North Texas. (TL;DR version: American Legend reneges on previously agreed-upon provisions and their Customer Service and attitude are abysmal.) In late October 2020, we entered a contract with American Legend to purchase a new house in Texas. Our salesperson was Erika Klingenberg and the construction manager was Andres Perales. We live in California and have a severely disabled child who requires 24/7 care, so we made it clear from the start that we would need to conduct all meetings (punch meeting + orientation meeting + final walkthrough) remotely and would be fine with a remote close. We also made it clear that if a representative must be present for any meeting, we would need a proxy to perform it for us, most likely our Buyer's Agent. Andres Perales agreed to our requests and wrote the following on October 30, 2020: "Typically we need to have the buyers present, however we also understand everyone's situation is unique. We will work with you if you feel comfortable having BUYER'S AGENT NAME REDACTED perform the meetings with us. Keep in mind that she will be the main contact for your renters when it comes to service and showing the mechanical maintenance moving forward." We thought cool, we can proceed with confidence knowing that these folks know how to conduct remote purchases, particularly during a time when COVID cases are surging and travel advisories change suddenly. As we went through the escrow process, small warning signs started showing up - many many MANY defects were uncovered upon home inspection. Some examples include exposed foundation repairs (see picture), a kitchen vent hood which did not have the correct speeds set (the fan is supposed to increase in speed as you turn it up levels but American Legend had set the maximum fan speed to be the middle setting!!!), the back patio slab had several cracks in it (see picture), the garage door was not aligned correctly (see picture), the fence was also not aligned properly (see picture), the roof was damaged (see picture), there were no intake vents for the attic (see pictures), the siding of the house was also damaged, and the water meter out front was running when it should not have been (a running water meter indicates a water leak). These were all signs of a shoddy build, but we decided to proceed with the transaction by requesting that American Legend remedy the defects. When requesting repairs, the answers from Andres Perales were typically either "we'll get it checked it out" or "that's not code in Celina" or "we will repair if needed." I also asked for a written disclosure regarding what the running water leak was about, and while Andres Perales was fine with verbally indicating that the City Of Celina had somehow damaged the water lines and it did not cause any damage inside the house, he refused to put a disclosure into writing with the same explanation. Finally, after several days of back and forth, Andres Perales and Erika Klingenberg agreed to fix most of the defects found. We thought okay, that wasn't the most pleasant process, but let's continue because we like this house and we like the neighborhood. Fast forward to November 13, 2020 which was about 1 week out from Closing. My loan had already been approved, Appraisal had been completed, and Request For Repairs had been agreed to. That is when American Legend reneged on their previous agreement to conduct the transaction remotely. Here is what Erika Klingenberg wrote to us on November 13: "After discussing with our management team the NAME REDACTED current situation, we would require one of the 2 purchasers to be present for the final orientation prior to closing. The importance of the final orientation with us is to learn how to operate and maintain all the mechanical systems in their home. Additionally, all 3rd party repairs that were discussed will be completed and can be visually reviewed in person, they will not be presented in writing. This process in performed in all of our homes effectively by assuring our home owners are satisfied with their home prior to closing. As a builder, it's important that American Legend will complete the home closing process and treat every home owner with equal customer service." In effect, they changed their previously agreed-to remote walkthrough performed by a proxy to demanding an in-person walkthrough by myself with only 1 week to go in escrow!!! They cost me extra fees during escrow due to their misrepresentation. Do not trust American Legend!!! Whatever their front office says, they will change on their whim and their word means nothing, even if it is in print. On top of that, their construction quality is hit or miss. Rick Philippi was very attentive to the details of what we were looking for since day one. He was on top of everything during the process. He made the stressful process of home buying a smooth one. First, the sales team led by Holly Henderson, are some of the best people I have met, personally. Between Holly, Lisa, and Natalie, from the first time I stepped into the ALH Model Homes, it felt more like speaking to a friend/family member vs a sales person. I first met Lisa and from her warm smile, glowing personality, and genuine interest in my family it was apparent she had our best interest at heart and understood the investment we are making by selecting our next home. She spent the better part of a Saturday with us and endured all my concerns and fears we have experienced in the prior building and home purchases. She never got frustrated with me and continued to be warm and made us feel "right at home" giving us the assurance that this was the right decision for us. She is an amazing individual who has a lot of knowledge but most importantly humanizes the interaction with potential clients. Our last interaction was with Troy Hale and you have an amazing builder in Troy! The time he spent on the walks and ensuring our home was "show ready" before our walk blew me away. I have never had the experience where I couldn't find anything during our walk as an issue was very unique to Troy and ALH. From the first time I stepped into the home I could tell the home was built with quality and pride, like it was his own home. The quality of the product spoke for itself and the work and time he put into building this home and ensuring it was as tight as it could be was clear to me. Troy definitely considers his customers and the investments they are making to ensure the customer experience, even after closing, was the best. Example was a couple days after closing, early Monday AM, I texted him about an issue I was having with an electrical circuit and within two hours I had an electrician at my door fixing the issue! First of all, let me preface this with the fact that I don't own an American Legend home. I have just had the unfortunate experience of having to deal with them because they are building the house next door. I can only speak to my own experience with the building supervisor here, Dan. I approached him to let him know to keep an eye out for a work order for some damage that had occurred due to the home build next door (his build). That's it. He could have said he'd keep an eye out, check on it and fix as needed, or whatever. The more he talked, the more mad I became. He has zero people skills. He has zero customer service skills. He could have "fixed" this issue with a few words. For the past few months, we have picked up their mess, cleaned up the daily food packaging that blows over in our yard, fixed our sod that they tore up saying nothing, chalking it up to living near a new build. Instead, he has made me decide I will report every single infraction they cause while building next door. Based on his demeanor/attitude ALONE, I would NEVER purchase an American Legend home. I purchased an American Legend Home a year and a half ago and I just love love love my home, I love the floor plan, color scheme and the flow is amazing. I have had quite a few gatherings and it is a great floor plan for entertaining. Also the whole process with ALH from start with the amazing sales person to my builder Tony they both were just top notch and so responsive any time I had a question. I was dreading the design center meeting as I just am not great at that stuff. Sharon was amazing she walked me through the selection process with ease. She was just so calming she picked up on my taste immediately, which made the whole process a piece of cake. I love my ALH home and loved the process, I would and do recommend ALH to my friends and family and buyers. read more

We've been in our home for almost 3 years and it is as beautiful as the day they gave it to us! Of course issues arise, nothing in this world is absolutely without fail and perfect. But American Legend is an exceptional builder. I challenge anyone to go to the neighborhoods where they build and view and compare lots under construction. I guarantee you will find their lots to be the cleanest, at least in my experience. I understand for those who have never built before and having little experience and knowledge in this to be overwhelming, however American Legend has some of the best customer service out there. I have been through this process before and from Sales, Design, Construction Management, and Warranty they have shown me nothing the but the best, most courteous and professional communication and treatment. Ask others who live in the neighborhood before listening to bad, disgruntled comments here. Our neighborhood Facebook page is constantly littered with bad experiences from many other builders except American Legend. I feel bad for others but proud of my home and my choice to buy from them. My neighbors who have ALH homes love them as well. I will recommend to anyone and buy again if I have the opportunity. read more

Only sales reps are very good people. Builder pretends to be nice to you ONLY for the first 60 days because that's the 60 days warranty period, and he asks for 5 star reviews so he can get bonuses from each home they build. Guess what, I don't like two faces, so forget your bonus!!! And these expensive houses are being built by very cheap workers. Painting job sucks, cocking jobs sucks, flooring sucks, crooked dry walls, uneven floors, chipped tiles, and so on. *AVOID ALH* like I said sales reps are good people, but you buy for you and your family, they have nothing to do with you personally. read more

Working with Rick and American Legend was a great decision . I worked with other home builders but had didn't have quite as good experience as I had buying a home from Rick. The entire team was very helpful and completed everything agreed to before closing. They prided themselves with integrity which why I would recommend anyone to buy a home from them as well. read more
