Had a leaky pool and the leak was UNDER the concrete walk way surrounding the back side of the pool. Called several contractors and Clayton was by far the most honest, optimistic and committed to the scope of work required. Because there was an obvious "unknown" as to the scope of work the quote was provided in tiers that identified clear thresholds that "if" we have to do this "then" we're into this tier of expense. To my absolute amazement, he did NOT make it to the top tier. That's honesty right there! The quote itself was extremely detailed and allowed us to clearly understand the work, the expense and provided the opportunity to adjust as necessary. Clayton shared he was in the United State Marine Corps which explains the detail provided, honesty and absolutely NO nonsense approach with his crew and/or contractors. Thank you for your service Clayton! During the work Clayton stayed in constant contact keep me informed as what the plans were for the following days, who should be accessing the back yard to work on the project and when the rains came (and the rains did come) he identified in advance when the crew would not be present. I had my backyard completely redone by MRZ Contracting and they did a great job! I could not get anything to grow because of too much shade and poor drainage. Working with Clayton was easy and his crew was very skilled. He did a 3-D computer rendering of the project before we started so that I could actually see what it was going to look like. Another company I got an estimate from, that was much higher, had an outside Architech that would do that but it was going to cost extra. The curb appeal of our home needed some major work and we didn't know where to start. Our gardner (Keane) offered an estimate that seemed basic and overly priced, so after searching Yelp we felt confident having MRZ Contracting come give an estimate. We had a total of four companies give estimates and MRZ was above and beyond the most professional and knowledgeable company we spoke to. Clayton spent about 45min with me walking our property explaining what we currently had and why it wasn't working. He offered a variety of options we could do to add curb appeal to our home from a major overhaul to minor beautifications. He's not just a landscaper, he's a horticulturist! He knows everything there is to know about trees, plants, soil, flowers, root systems, everything. He pointed out we have 23 different species of trees on our property! Days later Clayton sent me a very informative and detailed estimate along with a 3-D rendering/video of what the changes would look like. It was incredible! He also portioned out the estimate in stages, as requested, so we could tackle a major overhaul in pieces. His estimate was extremely comparable to the other estimates we received, but his knowledge & expertise of the plants put him heads above the rest. After some other life changes occurred we decided to wait on a full overhaul of our yard and instead had Clayton and his team come out and do some major work on our trees, bushes and shrubs. His son rain point on the project and was wonderful. He pointed out each different tree, bush and shrub and how they'd handle it differently based on how it grows, etc. The project took them a couple of days and Clayton checked in with us, and his team often. They hauled all the debris away even though our trash pick up includes large debris. Within 24hours of the job being complete our neighbors all started commenting on our yard and the massive improvement. They couldn't believe our yard could look like it did. MrZ Contracting is owned and operated by none other than Clayton Zachary, a bona fide detail oriented, schedule driven, genius. We needed an old pergola removed, as it as about to fall down and kill someone, as well as some landscaping. The pergola was some 50 feet long and wrapped around the north western edge of our home. Our backyard had some simple brick bordered, weed infested, plant nubs and dead brown grass. Clayton arrived, and I greeted him with my typical jaded New England born cynicism regarding contractors. Any of you out there looking for a contractor understands. My past experience was to find someone, anyone, who would do a simple job for cheap money. This time, I looked for the highest reviewed contractor on Yelp. Mr Z did not disappoint. After a review of the front and backyard landscaping we surveyed the pergola. He came back with one of his crew. Took some measurements and then the magic happened. About a week later I get a fully rendered, 3d Model of my home exterior, showing their future design installed. Besides pictures, there was video as the camera walked the virtual property. I also received a highly detailed quote for the work. Including species of plants, their hardiness given Texas climes, broken into chunks so that we could either exclude bits we didn't want to pay for. All of this was followed by several walk throughs, discussions of building materials, soil types, HOA requirements, licensing. It was absolutely incredible. Yes. The force is strong with this one. This guy is a Jedi Master at his job. We agree to do it all. And then the sh** hits the fan. First, the pergola was attached to the brick facia with 3, yes three, quarter inch bolts. Those bolts pulled the facia away from the house, so the entire brick facia had to replaced on the second floor above the pergola. Taking the pergola down became a surgical procedure to prevent damage to home and person. Upon checking the sprinklers, fully 1/3 either do not work or are fed with broken pipes. Mixed in was weeks of rain, oh... and there was a pandemic. However, none of this fazed the Clayton. He's a Marine, so adapt and overcome is natural to him. Pergola came down and was replaced with a F3 tornado capable cedar beast that is not attached to the house. He replaced the brick with beautiful stonework, again without damaging anything. His padawan, Alex, shows up and spends weeks at our house. Alex is kind, strong, intelligent, and absolutely tireless. He removes all the grass, fixes all the pipes, hauls all the stone, plants, trees, sod. All in all, we might have been 2 weeks off schedule, and really, that was due to the rain. Clayton and I worked out a payment arrangement as part of his proposal. The surprises; stonework, sprinkler, etc, were all meticulously documented and reasonable. We always had plenty of time to work with him on every single step. His knowledge of plants, building materials, contractors, regulations, code.. etc. .etc... is absolutely unparalleled. I would text this guy at various points, and regardless of time of day, he responded within 15 minutes. All of the work passed building inspection, of course. In fact, when the inspector showed up for the pergola and learned MrZ did the work, he responded laughing.. .'Oh yeah. This will last forever. That company is legit.' I had the pleasure of discovering MRZ Contracting through reviews I saw on Yelp. I had a fire pit installed in my backyard next to my gazebo and pool area by another company referred to me by my neighbor (big mistake). I should have paid more attention to the design, but it is hard to do that off a drawing. The finished product was an eye sore due to the poor design and poor workmanship. The finished product was so bad, I did not allow the company to step foot back on my property to even try to dress up the pig. I started searching on Yelp and I liked what I read about MRZ. I called them and set up an appointment to see if the mess I had gotten myself into could be corrected. On the day of the appointment Clayton Zachary arrived and I showed him the backyard. Clayton spent an hour with me looking at the new fire pit, it's flaws, and discussing replacing existing landscaping around the gazebo and pool area since it was very "outdated". Clayton spent the next couple of weeks designing a solution that would create a "seamless" area to tie everything together. The pool, gazebo and fire pit had different patterns, colors, and they looked "choppy" together. Clayton sent me viewpoints and videos of what his solution would look like, including the landscaping. It is amazing, almost a year later, the video is a mirror image of what my backyard looks like today! I was so pleased with Clayton and MRZ that I had my entire front yard redesigned and updated. Like many of you who may be reading and researching for a future project, I went in search of those helpful reviews to find a quality contractor. MRZ Constructions consistent 5-star ratings are what really caught my eye. Having completed many building projects over the years and in multiple locations, it has become important to me to not just grab the cheapest price but to find the contractor who will do what he says in the time frame he promises. Clayton is the man when it comes to design help, details, providing an accurate quote and those all-important updates all along the way. Our covered patio project had to be re-designed a couple of times to deal with a pesky build line restriction but none of that phased Clayton and his team. With each change we were provided with updated renderings and a 3-D video of our project. We used those renderings, pictures, and the video in our submission to our HOA which made the approval process a breeze. We built a rather tall cedar beamed structure with a hip roof and a closed rafter, pitched cedar ceiling. Claytons' attention to the details like roof lines and soffit materials, made the completed patio appear as if it was built at the same time our home was built. We had a pool built in the 80's which we needed remodeling and we chanced upon mrZ Contracting. I loved Clayton the minute I met him. He's a Marine veteran and real genuine person. We needed our back yard landscaping redone after the pool was remodeled and we also were interested in an outdoor kitchen/living area. If you live in Plano, or any area that has severe water restrictions this is the company to use. BACKGROUND: In May of 2013 I decided to get my landscaping completely gutted out and redone, including a stone wall and irrigation. I got quotes from 3 vendors. One was lower and the other was double the price of MRZ. The reason I chose MRZ was because 1. After meeting Clayton I immediately felt that he was passionate about what he does (I don't know how anyone could enjoy plants but oh well) and 2. He sent me a CAD video of what my landscape would look like once it was fully grown. And that was FREE. I couldn't believe it. 3. He offered a three month warranty on all the plants and one year warranty on the trees (very important since we were in Stage 3 water restrictions) PROCESS: Since I, like everyone else, decided to get my landscaping done in the Spring it took a while before the work actually began. The good part was that I was kept informed of the schedule. Once the landscaping was completed Clayton spent about an hour telling me how to care for each plant. He really loves this stuff. I took notes but I can see in my text messages that I have contacted him numerous times with questions and he has come to my house twice to check on "his" plants. WARRANTY: Shortly after installation, the lilies on the left of the house started dying. I contacted Clayton to complain and within weeks they were all replaced. Then towards the end of my warranty period the bushes on the right side of the house (the sunny side) started dying. I contacted Clayton again thinking he would say it was my fault for not watering enough. He informed me that because of the extreme heat to replace them would not be recommended and to wait until the Fall. Well his guys came back and not only replaced the two dead ones but replaced all five bushes. Needless to say I am very happy customer. CUSTOMER SERVICE: Phenomenal. We have remodeled our entire house and this is the only vendor I feel I can call and ask questions. The only vendor to send me an email saying Happy Thanksgiving, The only vendor to mail me a Christmas Card! And I am still impressed with the CAD video. They go above and beyond. PRICE: I think the price is very reasonable. If you are like me and have no idea what you want this company can help you. They are not the cheapest but I have no doubt they are the best. We needed all new landscaping in the front and side of the house. This included demo of existing beds and removal of existing plant material (including large shrubs and a few trees) creation of two new beds for enhanced curb appeal, and installation of all new plant material, new stone border and mulch. Some drainage work, irrigation adjustment and tree trimming were also part of this job. First and foremost, I chose MRZ because of their initial responsiveness and professionalism. I have worked with a variety of landscape contractors in my professional life, and have found that while the labor force is generally the same, the communication, attention to detail, knowledge and responsiveness of the project manager has the biggest impact on overall quality. After a frustrating experience with a company my neighbor referred, I was pleasantly surprised when my first inquiry was met with an almost immediate response; Clayton was at our home within a matter of days to discuss what we were looking for. He understood my vision and offered plant and tree suggestions that met both my personal aesthetic and my desire for heartiness and low maintenance. Not only did he provide a very professional presentation of his design concepts, his bid was competitive and he was able to complete the project within a tight window as we requested. Although our project was completed in October, Clayton has stayed in contact with us and came by this week to take a look at a few plants that did not take root. We hired MRZ Contracting earlier this year when we were in the process of selling our house. Clayton and everyone on his team were great and they did an awesome job. We had them do a plethora of things and it all looked amazing. They repaired our sprinkler system because some roots had punctured a couple pipes. They fixed the fence where the door had fallen off. They clean/bleached and restained the fence. They also laid sod where the grass has died from the sprinklers not working. They even removed the bushes from the flower bed and redid them with beautiful flowers and plants. Everything turned out better than I could have ever asked for. We hired MrZ to landscape our small yard. The project included removing a wooden deck and many uneven pavers and gravel, then re-imagining the yard as something beautiful. Clayton Zachary, the owner, told us that it is his goal to make projects as comfortable as possible for his clients. Within a week or so, he provided us with a complete plan that included patterned concrete patio and walkways, plants and irrigation. During the transformation we ran into some unexpected difficulties that made things less than comfortable for a few days. We hired Clayton and his team to build a patio arbor for our home. We had a few people from various companies come out to give us an estimate, but Clayton was by far the most professional. He definitely knows what he is talking about and can give very helpful suggestions to help guide your decisions. The arbor they built us looks fantastic and was built with very high quality. It is very sturdy, which is important as we tend to get very high cross winds through our backyard. If you have ever tried to get anything done in Flower Mound you know dealing with the city can be kind of a pain. We actually had one company that refused to even come out for a quote when they heard we lived in Flower Mound because they did not want to have to deal with the city. Clayton on the other hand knows the people at the city by name and has been doing work in the Flower Mound area for many years. He knows how to make the inspection and approval process go smoothly.
