This is a really cool historical building if you have a chance to visit. Lots of cool history that has been preserved really well. They also will start showing films in the theater soon which I think will be super cool. The bar has good options for a good price if you get a chance to visit the bar. They also do parking during bowl events which keeps your cars safe in Hollywood which is something I always look out for when parking in Hollywood. read more

A genuine hidden gem in Los Angeles. When you go into the building, you are met by  stunning art deco, speakeasy, and forties vibes. I was astonished by how big the building is once  inside. I am honored to be a visitor since you must be a  member or have been invited. We had a great experience. Bartender on point :) Met some wonderful people as we enjoyed a night cap. Fantastic architecture, friendly staff and members proud of the history of Post 43. We were lucky enough to see a movie inside the theatre, but then stuck around afterwards and member's invited us to come have a drink at the basement bar and look around at the history covering the walls. A couple of guys had knowledge they were happy to share about the founding, history, and legendary "goings on" Post 43 has hosted since 1928 when it was established. We've driven by it many times, but we're so excited to get to see the inside, so we really appreciated their warm hospitality. read more

A gorgeous and unique facility. Lots of fascinating architectural and design details, including the art deco bar in the "basement" area. We rented this space for a meeting. It's dark downstairs, but so unusual - definitely not your typical venue space. If you are lucky enough to host or attend an event here, make sure to take a walk around the building. There is so much history and hidden delights throughout. The staff there is also super friendly and great to work with. And a parking lot! If you are planning an event in the Hollywood area, don't sleep on this lovely American Legion Post. It's not cheap, but it's worth it and your guests will be impressed! read more

We watched Lord of the Rings and to my surprise... presentation quality was GREAT! The place was packed, but don't fret cuz ALL parking spots were good. The parking lot is snuggled at the base of Hollywood Hills and just south of The Bowl. This is a watch in your car type of drive-in. Tickets included: popcorn, candy, and drink. Last night I went to see Bill Burr and I was in the fifth row. For the first hour I watched a woman and her friends (who were seated a few rows in front of me) get continually harassed by security and the MC. She was finally asked to get up and leave, although I have no idea why. I did not find her obnoxious or vulgar at all. Seems very shady. Doubt I will be going back. I have been to events here before without a problem but last night attending bill burr will be the last time I spend my money here. I was seated in the front row and kept hearing commotion from behind me. From what I could gather, a woman and her husband (for no apparent reason were continuously harassed by another member of the audience. At one point the woman's husband got up to defend her and they were asked to leave by security. However, the instigator remained seated after threatening the woman and her husband. It seemed completely unfair to me. If this is the way they treat people I will never return. I spoke to the woman before the show started, and she seemed nice. read more

Came here for a drive in movie. I was astounded to see how accommodating they were! I went to purchase a ticket online for a movie that was playing that evening. The movie was sold out for my vehicle type. I called the number and after a few rings I hung up deciding that it was probably dumb to try to get in last minute. Well a minute later they send me a text (which I love cause I abhor talking on the phone! So convenient!) and I have a conversation with a person who ended up selling me the last ticket for a spot that was for a bigger vehicle than mine. When arriving, we drove in and they had us park aside as we didn't have an assigned space yet. They took our order for our soda and candy right there in the front with the box office lady and they provided a box and cans to our car quickly after that. They also provided us a light to put on top of our car if we wanted more concessions. It was so convenient! We never had to leave our car! When we finally did get a spot it was perfect. The view was great! Another service I was impressed with is that they will come and cover your headlights lights with a velvet cloth if you cannot turn them off. Once again, the word accommodating came to my head as I know with some modern cars, it's hard to turn those things off while leaving the radio on. I highly recommend this drive in for its stupendous service! All in all my one word for this place is ACCOMMODATING. read more

I was there last night and saw a man harassing a couple in front of them for no reason! We were enjoying the show and noticed the security came up to the lady and her husband that were previously being harassed and they were asked to leave! What a complete shock! That couple wasn't doing anything wrong and we're asked to leave. But the gentleman behind them that was being an asshole was allowed to stay! What a joke! The way they handled this situation was ridiculous! And I heard the woman's ask why they had to leave and they wouldn't give her a reason! I'm very disappointed with how this situation was handled! I Definitely will never recommend this place to anyone I know! They allowed a woman to be harassed who was there enjoying the comedy show and made her leave when the gentlemen behind her should have been told to leave and was allowed to stay! This place doesn't know how to treat people fairly! I won't be going back again! You need to teach your staff the right and wrong way to handle situations like these!! Worse place to go!! Best and oldest Member Speakeasy in LA! It's like stepping back in time once your inside.

Yes, veteran based service organization. (VSO) Bar open for service members that are active members of the organization. Primarily 1st and 3rd Mondays of each month, Thursday open as well. For the pandemic it is open at 7 pm. The only way it's closed on these days are major holidays or a special event that has the building booked. Sunday funday is Primarily a football based watch party, open up at 10 am closees at 5pm. The only way it may stay open if we have at least 30 people from start of the game and go to 45+ at 5 pm. Please don't forget to tip our bartenders, it's a way to say thank them for being there and for the services they provide. read more

Drove approximately 3 1/2 hours from Arroyo Grande, CA. Post # 136 to the Hollywood, CA. To view the American legion Hall # 43 and present this post with American legion Post 136 placard as a symbol of interaction with this post. Upon arrival, greeted with hostile, confrontation and told the post was closed using a speaker. I stated that according to there website post, they where open until 17:00 hours, and that we where American legion members from another post. The person on the speaker, stated they were closed and projected the attitude that he could careless how far we traveled. We where not given any common courtesy or fellowship from this person from the American legion Post # 43. I guess we didn't meet there standards Veterans. read more

I joined the American Legion, and Hollywood Post 43, specifically. The people are great and the building is a living piece of historical art. Being a part of this organization is one of my best decisions. Though you have to be a member, or a guest, on most nights, there are great events that are open to the public. In my short time, there has been a comedy night and a couple of live music events. read more

Finally had the opportunity to visit this post. Having heard so much from its history to its haunts, this is one post I have been meaning to go to. Staff behind the bar were friendly and welcoming. Some posts tend to be not so nice and welcoming regardless if you are a member or officer of another post and visiting but I had no issues here. I would make more rounds to this post and attend their events. I sure could use some more practice with my billiards game though. Pool room is for members only so do not forget your card. I really loved visiting this place! It's very interesting and historical, and it's a great way to support veterans. I attended an event here as part of the Hollywood Noir City film festival, and saw two military-related films from earlier days. The movie theater was very clean and well maintained. Comfortable seats, and lots of space. Also got a chance to see some of the historic rooms there and the bar downstairs. read more

Incredible venue. It's like being transported back to the 1950s. Absolutely in love with the Art Deco bar: where they have incredible live music at "Post 43 Sessions" (one of a few of their volunteer-run events open to the public for a nominal $5 donation). Came to one of these events and have continued to come back for more. Such incredible talent comes through these doors. From the history, to supporting veterans, to everything in between, this is hands down one of my favorite places in Los Angeles. read more

Hollywood Post 43 is the Post of the Stars. Many of Hollywood's greatest stars were members of Post 43 and spent time in the art deco bar. If you're lucky, you might even be able to sit at the same place at the bar that Clark Gable and Humphrey Bogart used to hold court, or sit in the booth that Mickey Rooney and Ronald Reagan used to frequent. I had an excellent experience at the American Legion Post 43. I was a groomsman in a wedding that both the ceremony and the reception was taking place here. Full disclosure, I know there was some disappointment from the bride and groom as the area they booked was still under construction come wedding day and they were forced to have the ceremony in the parking lot. But I was not involved with that, so this review does not take that into consideration, as I don't know the details. This review is based on my personal experience (as it should be). This place is really a Hollywood hidden gem! I love old school bars, buildings and places that appear to be untouched by time, and this surely is that to the max! Everything from the reception hall to the bathrooms scream of the 1940s, but the crown jewel is the bar. That whole bar area is amazing! There is both a poker room and a pool room that the groomsmen had to get ready and have our own place to relax and it was very nice. One tip for them... there was no mirror in there, which was kind of inconvenient given the situation. I'd try to add that in the future for events like these. The ceremony, reception and cocktail hour were all fabulous. The sound system in the reception hall could use an update. The staff (not sure who worked for the American Legion and who was hired by the wedding party) were all wonderful. I know it might be difficult to get in here, but if you're into LA history and seeing old awesome places... definitely do what you can to get in here even just to see it and take a few pictures. read more

This theatre is doing the Hollywood community a huge favor by showing classic movies on the big screen. The theatre is quite large and there is always easy parking and seating. However, the prices are too high. The cost is 36.00 for two people for one film. Why not do a double feature for the same price? I watched the Noir films for free at home. Lower the price and I would consider coming regularly. read more

Hollywood Post 43 is a hidden gem in the heart of Hollywood. The historic Art Deco Speakeasy is a great place to hang out and enjoy some quality cocktails. Jon, the bar manager is one of the best bartenders in all of Los Angeles. Highly reccomend coming to this venue when they have live music - you will not be disappointed! Batman has his batcave, and veterans have theirs, the American Legion Hall! This place is the meeting place for the American Legion's Hollywood chapter, post 43. All the legion events are posted here, and there are an assortment of cool treasures inside, like a large meeting hall, 2 bars, a few stages, offices and all kinds of war artifacts and memorabilia. When not used by the legion, the place is rented out for exclusive parties, movie shoots or used as a parking annex for events at the nearby Hollywood Bowl Amphitheater. read more

After 7 years in LA for me and 21 years for my husband, we're moving out of CA. One of the last things we did was watch Once Upon a Time in Hollywood at this drive-in. A historic building in the heart of Hollywood and yet many have no clue what it is. I'm here at least twice a week, it's my 2nd home. If you're affiliated with the military/veteran community in some way I recommend stopping by. A beautiful theater in the works right now that is currently under renovations, an art deco bar that'll take you back in time. Also cant forget the cool museum of historic military items from WW1 & WW2. Lastly, the people, veterans from all generations under one roof. This is the coolest, most exclusive private club in town! Cheapest drinks ever, and the karaoke nights are always fun. I love this place!

Great people, great booze, and plenty to of entertainment for all. The brotherhood/sisterhood is amazing.
