I went in for some exhaust work, called and was able to stop by the shop the next morning on Sunday. Got an aftermarket resonator installed and a realignment/extension for my axle-back exhaust. Price was very affordable and reasonable, and the shop is run by a fellow Cambodian who knows what he is doing and is honest and knowledgeable with his work. When we got an astronomical quote for exhaust work through our regular garage, we decided to see what American Muffler and Brake offered. Two lifts, one garage, one automotive artist. Quick and Easy Simply put, they do mufflers and brakes. If you want your brakes done you have to buy the parts needed. Prices are very reasonable and the work gets done quick. Only complaint is that I believe they turn on their credit card machine when they want so be prepared to grab cash. Where are you gonna get a fill muffler job from the cat back for under 250 and front brakes (pads and rotors) replaced for u set 200 bucks with you buying the parts. Good deal, quality work. This place is awesome!! They bailed me out big time this past weekend! My wife was driving her Subaru late Saturday afternoon when her exhaust system suddenly began dragging on the road. She limped home with the car, and, in true husband fashion, I told her I'd deal with it tomorrow. So, the next day, I looked under the car and saw an exhaust pipe had rotted at the original factory weld seam and completely separated from the rear section of the exhaust. I temporarily re-hung the pipe with a wire coat hanger, and then remembered seeing a sign that this place was open on Sundays. It was 10 a.m., and I called to confirm. The man who answered the phone said he was open until noon, so I rushed over. He took me in right away, put the car on a lift and inspected the exhaust system. In addition to the separated pipe weld, he found a flex pipe in poor condition and likely to fail in the near future, so I had him fix both items. I took a walk, and the mechanic called me an hour and 15 minutes later to say my car was ready. As with my first experience there, the price was very reasonable, and I was grateful they are open Sundays. Now my wife doesn't have to worry when she drives the car to work on Monday. Vanna was an absolute lifesaver today. I was in Providence for one night and my catalytic converter was stolen. Woke up on Sunday to an extremely loud and overheating car. American muffler was the only shop open on Sunday. Vanna didn't have a part he needed to fix the car, but when I told him I am not from Providence and needed my car to get home today he went out of his way to help. He even closed down the shop for a few minutes to run out and get the part he needed to fix it. Service was excellent and fast. My car sounded and drove like new after visiting this shop. This guy is my hero!! The hanger broke off the rear of my muffler, it was welded back on once. I went to several other muffler shops and they all said the same thing. $500+ for a new muffler, parts labor, etc. Other shops just want to sell you new parts and the employees lack the skill or desire to do actual repairs. I do not recommend going there for brake work. They did not have a diagnostic machine to check my brake light. I was told they only fix brakes. It felt like a waste of time going there. I could barely make out what the mechanic was trying to tell me. His English is not very clear and he came across rude having me call a different place to check my brake light. I have nothing, but amazing things to say about this company! The check engine light came on my car. Brought it to the dealership where I bought the car... Turns out 1 of my catalytic converters needed to be replaced. They quoted me $2,400 to replace 1! I then brought it to a small mom and pop shop and they quoted $1,400 to replace 1. Not bad, I thought. Saving around a $1,000. Before I pulled the trigger I saw the great reviews here and figured I'd give it a shot. Brought the car in, they looked at it, diagnosed the issue within a matter of minutes me being there. Actually showed me what was wrong and quoted me $600 to replace both with brand new higher flowing catalytic converters! BOTH, not just one. They saved me roughly $2,200-$4,200 in repairs! (estimates with replacing both catalytic converters) What more can I say? They are honest people who will do what needs to be done and nothing more. I stumbled upon this place by accident . I needed a new exhaust for my truck. Problem is I have a custom exhaust . So the places I went and got quotes from where pretty high. I walked in here and was treated by the owner , who was also the mechanic. I explained my problem and he went out climbed under my truck came back out and told me what was wrong . I then asked the big question "how much?" The price he gave me made my mouth drop . IT WAS CHEAP. At this point it was a no brainer and told him to do the work . He bent and cut the pipes himself , did some welding and replaced the muffler all in about 40mins . Truck sounds good and exhaust look good, couldn't be happier . I tried this place after reading the last review, and I'm so happy I did! I needed new brakes so badly that the metal started grinding and screeching while driving. I researched so many area shops that did brakes and called a handful of them. After speaking with the owner of American Muffler & Brakes, he told me to come and he would give me an estimate. His estimate was so much lower than everyone else I called, that I decided to go for it. The best part is, he did it same day, used better quality materials (gold rotors vs. generic ones) and even showed me my old rotors after pulling them off so I would feel comfortable with the decision to replace them all. They were corroded and rusted. He was extremely reasonable, respectful and honest. It's rare that I leave a auto repair shop and feel happy to have done business there. This was the exception. He also said he does other things besides mufflers and brakes. I am taking my car back for a tune up, to replace timing belt and a few other things. I'm excited for this find! read more

I like the guy who runs this place a lot. They're honest people and they try their best to fix your vehicle. I had a friend recommend this place after his exhaust was coming loose. They definitely specialize in exhaust work. But they do other things as well like brakes and rotors. Dropped off my car for struts and was told two hours but it turned out to be more like four. Still though, the price was worth it and it's walking distance from my house. Make sure to bring cash as they do not accept credit cards. read more

This is the first time I've ever felt moved to write a review and am doing so because I was so pleased with my experience here. During a routine inspection at Firestone, I found out I had an exhaust leak. I was told by the Firestone guy that I would have to replace the entire exhaust manifold and that this would take 3-4 hours and about $550. It would also take him 2-3 days to find the correct part. I asked whether I could replace a gasket rather than the whole manifold and was told I could not. I frantically called around to different mechanics and none could fit me in during the coming week. I called American Muffler and they said I could bring my car by after work that day and they would take a look. Sure enough, I drove down and they took me in immediately, put my car up on the lift and told me they needed to replace the gasket; it would take an hour; I could wait there; and it would cost $150. They were polite, honest, easy to talk to. I waited on a pleasant couch and watched the National Geographic Channel they had playing. I highly recommend this place! Thank you. read more
