Great experience if you are going to sit for a while. The interior is designed for the busy person. Lots of computer ports and a few PC's, wireless, TV, free coffee and water. Very well done. They even have monitors so you can see your car being worked on. You do pay a premium though for all of that convince. They are designed to provide you service on just about all makes and models, but if you need a part, for a foreign, you may have to come back. So that is also a down side. All in all though, I think they are certainly in the top 5 spots I have dealt with in RI. read more

I brought my car in because I thought I had a slow leak in my tire. Turns out, that tire was fine but my other tire had a gash in it & it was unsafe to drive. I was in contact with Jason, who was accommodating and ordered two new tires which would arrive the next day. Unfortunately, the tires came & were the wrong size for my car. Jason was apologetic, and I picked up my car with a spare on it which I had for 2 days. I went back on Tuesday @ 8am to have two new tires put on etc. It took just under 45 minutes for my car to be ready. I waited in their lobby (very clean!) which is full of complimentary WiFi, snacks & drinks. The restroom is super clean as well (huge plus). I'm giving them 5 stars because both my parents and myself have been coming to Protech for years. Their service and quality of work is unparalleled in the area. I was obviously unhappy when I was told about the initial mix up with the tires- but human error happens. I'm very pleased with this company and will continue to be a loyal customer. PS They don't screw you over like most auto-repair shops!!! read more

original 1 star, updated to 5. I came here based on good reviews. The service I went for was to have new wheels put on with my current tires (new wheels are same size as stock wheels). So a basic unmounting/mounting. Same work/labor as having summer tires switched over to snow tires and vice versa. Most shops charge $70-$90 for this. Protech charged me $150 which is totally unheard of. I was thinking "okay, whatever, ill just never come back". I was not thinking of getting on yelp. The reason I got on yelp is this..My car has 17" low profile wheels/tires (stock size). In the past I have had other shops over-inflate my tires which has caused my wheels to easily bend/damage over even small potholes (potholes that normally wouldnt hurt my wheels). So after I paid double what it should have cost me, before walking out I asked Jason if the tires were properly inflated (and explained to him how other shops have over-inflated causing me easily bent rims). He assured me that would never happen at his shop and assured me they are to the proper PSI. Then while I was driving home the car felt stiff. Based on life experience I don't trust anyone 100%, so when I got home I kicked a tire to feel it, and it felt very hard. So I took my gauge out of my trunk and checked (I live 1 mile away on a 30mph road so my tires did not have a chance to get hot and expand, also it is on the chilly side today, roads are not hot). All 4 tires were 5 PSI over the recommendation in the door jam. 5 PSI over the manufacturer's recommendation is A LOT if you are running low profile wheels/tires, which I am. Needless to say I was pissed, not only because I was charged double what any other shop would charge, but if I took Jason's word and didn't check for myself when I got home, my new wheels would be bent in no time with rock hard tires. They were nice and respectful, but super expensive and told me my tires were properly inflated when they were in fact one little pothole away from bending my new wheels. The place is very clean and they had me out of there in about an hour give or take a few minutes (I came straight from work and waited). The staff was also friendly. If Protech cares to rectify my poor experience today, I will be more than happy to update this review to reflect positively on them. I am not out to cause harm to anyone or business. I am just sharing my limited experience with this shop, and currently I regret going to them. Update from 1 star to 5 stars for reaching out to me instantly the following morning and being genuinely mindful of my first experience with them and what caused it to be a negative one. Nick (the manager if I'm not mistaken) called and I could sense he was more upset than I was about my negative first experience and he was looking to fix the relationship, which he succeeded in doing. He took the time to hear me out and understand my feelings/concerns. He also offered a fair resolution. He was very professional about everything and we both understood each other. I am not a perfect human and I do not expect them to be either. What I do expect is when mistakes are made that the responsible party admits fault and takes action to fix it (if it is justified), and this is what happened. I also just noticed I also have a missed call/voicemail from the owner Tony, who was equally as apologetic and wanting to make things right as Nick was. I admire their dedication to customer satisfaction and I would now consider going back to them in the future. They handled this very well. These guys showed me that they really care about customer experience, so if you are justifiably unhappy just speak up and be civil. They will work with you to make sure you aren't just left hanging. Also it turns out that the $150 mounting charge was a mistake. Since they sell tires, this would be the charge had I needed new tires and purchased them elsewhere and brought them in to be mounted (as Tony put it, similar to bringing your own steak to a restaurant and asking them to cook it). But I didn't need new tires. My tires were fine, I just wanted them re-mounted on different wheels. So the correct charge was $100, which is much closer to the $70-$90 range I was expecting. I don't mind that it was 10 dollar above that range because of the professionalism and supporting a local shop (chains suck). Long story short, they made an error and quickly and politely made it right. read more

So, here's the story: My girlfriend owns a 2004 Honda Accord. She tells me it's shutting down as she's driving, no warning, just shuts down. I test drive it for a few days and it finally happens to me too. I go online, researching for an hour or so what could be wrong. Varying opinions, varying solutions. My girlfriend takes it to her business client's garage, and they tell her they think it needs a new computer and she needs to take it to the Honda dealership, $1300. On the day of her appointment, I go with her to the dealership, Grieco Honda, and right off the bat, I don't trust these guys at all. They want $120 just to look at the car. No. I tell her we are leaving and I look up nearby garages. Protech pops up and the reviews are great. We head over and they take us right away. They also charge to look at cars but it's something like $42 per half hour. We leave the car, and later that day the result is this: A loose and slightly corroded battery connection. $42. Moral of the story. These guys rock and were friendly and professional. And, always get a second opinion. Thanks Protech. read more

Can't say enough good things about this place. First off, the customer service is exemplary. When you call you are always greeted with a friendly voice, no matter the request. (Or dumb questions that I for sure have had!) Services performed are always done in a timely manner. I have full trust that whatever service needs are being performed on our vehicles they are being done properly. It's nice to be able to have that. The waiting area is awesome. Clean, comfortable, with complimentary drinks; coffee, water, and snacks; chips, crackers, candy, fruit. I have a recently 2007 Mercedes E350 that needed to pass inspection. I purchased it at auction with a check engine light. My regular mechanic would not touch it. Went to an "import specialist" and he told me it would be $1500. Another told me I would have to replace the engine, $3,000 and no guarantees. I like it here! The place seems fairly new. The waiting room is really nice, they have tvs and wifi and desks to sit and work. They also have complimentary water and yogurt and snacks for while you wait. I've made an appointment each time I've went and it's usually only a few days out. The last time I went was for an oil change and I was a little shocked that it was $45 for a basic oil change. I'm happy to support a local business vs a corporation but I'll probably keep my oil changes to Honda. (For $20 (with a coupon) I get an oil change and wash and vacuum my car). But otherwise the staff is super friendly. More attentive than most mechanics and I feel like they actually listen when I talk. I'm used to mechanics talking down to me but for the most part I don't feel that way here. I'm happy this place is so close to home. I'll definitely continue to bring my car here. read more

You can LITERALLY watch terrorists blowing stuff up and your oil being changed at the SAME TIME. That's right, thanks to new television technology you can watch CNN (I've noticed they've changed from Fox News, thank God) and the closed circuit footage of the mechanic working on your car on adjacent televisions. Pretty cool, huh? It gets better. While watching terrorists blow stuff up and your oil being changed, you can Keurig your ass a cup of one of like a dozen different blends of coffee, shovel your face full of goldfish crackers, eat some APPLE SAUCE or perhaps even a banana. Still not convinced your should bring your car here? How about this: The people who work at Protech seem to make it a point to a) treat you like an intelligent individual, and b) not bang you in the ass on car repairs. It's a beautiful thing, really. Whilst watching CNN/my mechanic I listened to a worker take about ten minutes to explain a repair, in exquisite detail, to an older gentleman who had some questions. While I had my old beater car they took me in the back and I had a little meeting with the mechanic who worked on the car, and then both the mechanic and the guy from the office explained to me that - get this - they could fix the problem BUT they thought it may not be in MY BEST FINANCIAL INTEREST to do so. You read that right - they passed on a sale in order to give me their honest opinion on how best to handle the issues with the vehicle. I've never left this place feeling like I've been taken advantage of, and several members of my family now say the same thing. Absolutely recommended. Oh, one last thing: The place does look like a chain because it looks - you know - good on the outside. It's not a lousy chain like Midas, etc. I believe it's run by a New England Tech graduate. I went in today because my tires went flat and both gas stations in the area did not have working air for me to fill them up myself. I went in and asked if they could fill them, and that I was more than willing to pay, they took my car in right away and brought it back within 15 minutes and didn't even charge me. The inside is modern and welcoming and they have snacks and drinks. I will be coming here in the future or recommending this business to anyone who asks!! read more

They never try to gouge us or try to scare us into unnecessary services or repairs. The staff is friendly and greets me by name. They've been very accommodating in several urgent situations. Modern, clean repair shop with a clean comfortable waiting room. My Lexus SUV was making a rattling noise which was driving me crazy. Protech put the car on a lift and discovered that a tail pipe hanger had deformed causing the tail pipe to vibrate. The technician bent the hanger back into its proper shape and he did it for free. There was zero charge. Subsequently, I brought the same vehicle in to have the front brakes pads replaced. The work was done quickly and professionally for $200.00 which is reasonable for a Lexus. There guys are honest, competent, professional, friendly and their shop is super clean. There prices are reasonable and the service is terrific. read more

The place I used to go to was mainly a body shop. they resided to stop doing basic car care. So I tried Protech. there prices were a little high but if i get good service that's ok. Well they gave me a price for 4 new tires so i checked around and other shops were at the same price which included electronic alignment. So I brought it in and when I got the bill it did not include anything but the tires. everything else was extra. So my bill was over $100 above all the other quotes i had received. I feel they miss lead me to get the service. Also I have driven the car all week no problems. After them I'm getting a noise I did not have before. WHEN I GO TO A PLACE I WANT AN UP FRONT PRICE. NOT LEAVING OUT HIDDEN COST. but they knew I would of went else where with the latest electronic equipment. and a lot less price. After I complained they offered to give some money back.
