This is an amazing company. I had some water damage on a wall and I called the company that installed my roof. They then told me that the chimney needed a cap. I put a bid on Home Depot (rookie mistake) and had 2 contractors say I needed a cap that could be installed for $900. That didn't seem thorough so I called evolution chimney. They had a young man and his partner came out and they went in the basement and to the roof and told me all the work I needed done. They had to add a new and wide liner, fix the deteriorating staccato, ensured that there was no chance of carbon monoxide and of course the cap. It was well worth the investment. The first appointment I had there was a scheduling mishap so the woman that took my call offered to deploy an emergency weekend team but I opted to reschedule for the next week. The work was done in a few hours. I was worried about squirrels still getting into the attic so I put a metal trap up there but nothing has been in the attic since and no water seems to be coming through the wall. I used American professional chimney in 2022 and they did phenomenal work. I was very comfortable reaching out to them again to provide recent service in 2024. Through Google I contacted American chimney notice, The title doesn't contain the word professional. It is very important to note this. Both companies with similar names have locations within 5 minutes of each other in Silver Spring. When you contact American chimney, they will try to impersonate American professional chimney. Make sure you note the difference. American professional chimney is a very reputable company. They have professional employees in with marked trucks containing company logo and decals. American chimney sends out one guy in his personal vehicle. Speak poor English and communicate via text. They'll tell you that they worked for you before and even pretend that they have two locations, one in Silver Spring and one in Hyattsville. Their hope and goal is to steal away business from American professional chimney. Just make sure you note the difference in the name... If you want a professional to handle your chimney services, contact American professional chimney. You can even ask to speak to Stefan who will take care of you. As we prepared to sell our house in mid 2023, we wanted our chimney serviced for a cleaning and inspection. APC&M responded promptly and came over within a few days. We recently bought a historic home with chimney issues. We had another company perform an inspection, who then insisted it would require a huge and expensive rebuild of a large portion of the chimney because of a wythe they couldn't get around. Naturally we needed a second opinion. American Professional Chimney (Mike) came out fast and at no cost. They did a thorough inspection, were super knowledgeable, and then helped us come up with options. They ended up relining one flue which the other company said wasn't possible without custom parts and ripping down the chimney. They also raised the chimney to make it compliant with the code. I'm rating the technician who came to our home twice as a 5, and this company as a 3, for an overall rating of 4. But to be very clear, David S. was our tech and he was terrific, a 5! He was on time, polite, respectful, personable, knew his stuff technically, and was at ease explaining everything technically including our options. He came here the first time to assess our two gas fireplaces that weren't working properly (fee was $74 each, $148 total). He came here the second time to service/clean/repair the two units, including replacing the pilot assemblies ($587 each, $1,174 total). Excellent work by David who is a solid ambassador for this company. However, the company dragged its own banner through the mud by calling us the morning of the second visit, and leaving a voicemail message along these lines: "Hi, this is American Professional Chimney and Masonry calling. Our technician is scheduled to be there this afternoon, but we haven't heard from you to confirm this appointment. Please call us to confirm or reschedule." That was ridiculous and outrageous and totally unnecessary. The insinuation was that we needed to call back to confirm an already-confirmed appointment, or else they would cancel it and reschedule it. Here's why that was absurd: 1) The tech was here the first time and we didn't "no show" him. Cost = $148 for the assessments. 2) The tech gave us a proposal to clean/service/repair the two fireplaces ($1,174). We called the office and scheduled the date and time for the work to be done. 3) Per company policy, we used our charge card to pay for the parts - the two pilot assemblies - ahead of time, so they could be ordered ahead of the second visit ($298). 4) At no time were we told we would be expected to double confirm the second visit. We can't read minds. To summarize, we were already a paying customer who'd spent $174 + $298 = $472 with this company. We weren't some total unknown to them seeking a freebie. We'd previously scheduled the date and time of the second visit. And by the time all was said and done, we would spend $174 + $1,174 = $1,322 with them which included having paid $298 for the parts. And yet they called the morning of the second visit saying "We haven't heard from you confirming....." It was silly from a business perspective and their office procedures tainted the excellent work of their technician. They have room for improvement in their procedures and what they say when they call the day of the appointment. I wanted to rate this company a 3 because of that but didn't want that to reflect on David, the tech, who got a well-deserved 5. read more

They were great. I wanted to convert my gas fireplace into a wood burning one (which I know is unusual!) and got several estimates. They were all about the same amount, but American Professional Chimney was able to identify why the fireplace had been converted to gas in the first place (the mouth of the fireplace was too big for the flue, which caused smoke to pour out, leaving some smoke damage on the brick above). They relined the chimney, did some masonry work on the fireplace, and added a smoke guard. It works perfectly and no smoke has come out at all. They were communicative and easy to work with. Five is simply not enough stars to give Dave Myers and his company, American Professional Chimney and Masonry. Over the past 7 years they have done a great deal of work on our house and we have come to greatly respect and appreciate the quality of their work, their integrity, and their attention to customer service. To be more specific, our house is an 1896 Queen Anne Victorian with a very tall central chimney for the fireplace flue and furnace flue. The work that Dave has done for us has included chimney cleaning, damper repair, stainless steel flue liner installation for the furnace flue, and chimney rain caps for both flues. After we had a chimney fire in the fireplace flue, he performed a camera video inspection of the entire interior surface of the flue to assess the damage, which revealed cracked ceramic tiles. Based on his recommendation and my own research, we then had him install "HeatShield", an innovative solution that repairs and restores both the flue and fireplace smoke chamber, making them safe for use. We were extremely happy with his expert advice and skillful installation of this product. As a historic preservationist I am very sensitive about work being done on our historic site. Dave Myers is equally sensitive and is a perfectionist in his craft. He is foremost extremely honest, professional, hard-working, knowledgeable, intelligent, and dedicated to giving satisfaction to his clients. We had our chimney repaired. We needed a new crown and a few layers repaired. We have a tall three story house. I called and set up an appointment. On the day of the appointment I called to confirm and the office told me it was not in their system. I rescheduled it. The team that arrived to provide the estimate was professional and wrote up the estimate on the spot. I scheduled the service. One team came and completed the repair on a hot day. The team was very nice and they cleaned up the work space very well. They said they would return in a week to uncover and spray waterproofing. Another team came back to do that, also very nice and professional. After the second team left I noticed that shingles on the porch were damaged from the ladder. Neither team used the buffers as I had expected. I called to discuss and the office offered to have a team come to replace the bent and broken shingles. One team came about two weeks later to take photos and did not return. Then another team arrived a week after that. They did not have the photos from the earlier team and arrived with the wrong colored shingles. I approved them but after starting them they realized it was not a good match. They returned the next day and completed the repair. The last team apologized for the situation. I am having the chimney inspected this week and will update if there are issues with the repair done. After I made full payment I never heard from the company again to ensure that everything was completed to my satisfaction. This company needs better communication all around and the staff must be more careful with their work areas. A homeowner should not have to micromanage the repair process. read more

I think I talked to them on a Thursday or Friday and they came on Monday. Very polite staff and great customer service. My chimney has two liners and staff had not experienced this. The gentleman asked a lot of questions about the two liners to ensure he was doing a thorough job. Staff was responsive when I asked them not to track dirt in the house.
